We recently visited Rojo Marrón and had a really great experience overall! We ordered the fish tacos, beef street tacos, and the "Espropapa" (definitely not spelling that right ). The Espropapa was honestly a standout -- absolutely delicious. The chipotle dip that came with it was AMAZING, and the presentation was a 10/10. The potato was sliced into a spiral and served on a stick, which made it both fun and visually impressive. The fish tacos were also excellent. They were cooked perfectly, full of flavour, and topped with fresh vegetables. The chipotle mayo sauce paired with them was sooo good and really brought everything together. The beef street tacos were still very good and not dry at all, but compared to the other dishes they were slightly underwhelming. Still enjoyable, just overshadowed by how strong the other items were. Service was great -- our server was friendly, loved to chat, and checked in on us regularly without being overbearing. They even brought out a bucket of different sauces labeled with spice levels, which was a fun touch and let us customize the heat. The decor was very Mexican-themed and added a lot of character to the space. The tables looked a bit worn, but honestly it added to the overall style and vibe rather than taking away from it. For veggie options they are able to do falafel and sautéed mushrooms for almost anything. We got the: Veggie Enchiladas- super homemade flavor! Wasn't a fan of the rice flavor or texture but the beans and enchiladas were amazing! 8.5/10 Chipotle Chicken tacos- AWESOME flavor!! 10/10 mushroom tacos- Something super different! Rojo Marron is a small, hidden restaurant near a tattoo parlor and medical clinic. Despite not seeing much foot traffic outside, I'm glad I gave it a chance. It has multiple diverse options, from burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, etc. I had the taco bowl or deconstructed taco bowl. With me choosing some healthy options for change. This was definitely healthy and filling. The truffle mushroom, tortilla chips, and pico de gallo made my taste buds dance. This place is authentic Mexican. The location is great. I love the interior. It's decorated much like you'd find a restaurant in Mexico. They have a huge menu. We all tried a few items. When your food comes out they also bring a variety of homemade hot sauces. I recommend tasting each one. They all vary in heat and flavours. Service was friendly and food was made Tom order. We came here last weekend while in Hinton for Baseball Provincials. Cute restaurant with wide offerings but prices are out of touch. $10 for chips and salsa that does NOT include a refill of chips is straight crazy. We shared enchiladas (green and yummy) and kiddos had quesadilla and burrito. 3 entrees (2 kids) and chips/salsa - $80 at lunchtime. I appreciate the variety but perhaps a smaller menu allowing lower prices would make this a better gem. read more

I could see why the five stars are consistent on here. Bollilo tacos were absolute fire, and the onions were nice and pungent. The banderas hanging above us were really cute, and I drank a very well blended flat white. Since it was already 3 pm, I hesitated drinking it, but I drank about half and half the rest in the morning. I put it in the microwave and it was still really good. Another thing worth noting was that the sauces were very varied: there was BBQ sauce of different kinds, and also the onions were nicely seasoned and pickled very well. I could sum this up real quick: Great Food, Fair Prices & Fantastic Service - Bam! We were on the hunt for a non-chain, not another burger/pizza joint and stumbled upon this gem. It was a little out of our way, taking us slightly off route- but, it fit the bill. We were seated on arrival & presented with a plethora of house made sauces, yes please! We also order coffee as the hotel stuff doesn't usually cut it & it was perfect. We could have skipped the chips and guacamole for the sole fact that our meals had plenty of food. We went with great anticipation. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. We ordered chips and spicy guac for appetizer. It came out 15' later with the guac looking very oxidized and brown. We returned it but were charged for it. The chicken chimichanga could have been crisper. The taco salad bowls lacked flavor. The beans on the fajita plate looked sad. The salsas bucket is a cute concept but the salsas are very thin, so pour carefully. I'm guessing that being from California, we have higher expectations of Mexican food. read more

The potato stick was my FAV! They were so light and crispy. Cooked to perfection, mwah! Chefs kisses all around & the dipping sauce. Nom nom nom I ordered the Mexican sandwich and it was huge, I only ate half, not that flavourful but they gave 5-6 different hot sauces and I spiced it up with the jalapeño hot sauce--which was perfecto! My cousin ordered the mushroom tacos and she also only at 3, but said they were good. Would love to go back and try out new items. I love the vibe, the decor, & music had me missing Mexico. Upon entering RM, you are immediately greeted with an open room ample with dark wood. The menu is perfectly sized, no mundane filler here. For eats we grabbed a quick appetizer of Elote. You'll want to get one for everyone, so good !! Our Main was Tacos and shrimp fajitas - Delicious, flavourful, generous portions !! We stopped by Rojo for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Being vegetarians, we get a few options but Rojo has so many for us to pick from. We had the street tacos with mushrooms ( the presentation and taste were both wow!), fajitas plate and enchiladas. The taste was spot on for each dish and the service was prompt, warm and amazing! This place is super cute and for the most part, it's pretty quiet. The lady who works the front is super friendly and yes, there is separate billing. You order at the front, and pay later which is an added bonus. I got the elote (corn on the cob with all the trimmings) to put it bluntly DO NOT GET IT. Simple as that. Literally all it is is boiled corn then I'm guessing it got put in the microwave and seasoned with extra salt and cheese. It was horrible. It was soggy and extra salty and the cheese namely funny. It couldn't be eaten. I also got the shrimp tacos. The only thing is that you can't mix and match tacos. You get three of whatever it is that you decide but they must be the same. They were okay for the most part. The portion sizes were wayyy off. I had more cabbage in my tacos then I did shrimps. Plus they were covered in batter. The hot sauces weren't hot at all. But again, the girl working was super friendly that it's not fair to give them a bad review. read more

Our AirBnB recommended we check this place out. Absolutely amazing food. Large portion sizes. Reasonably priced. Most importantly, some of the most fresh tasting food we've ever had. Started with tortilla chips and guacamole. A creamier style guac, which was very good. Tortilla chips were crunchy but a bit salty to our taste. I got the chicken and cheese quesadilla with red onions and green peppers added on. Amazing. My wife got the three taco option with beans and rice. Literally the best tacos we've had in years. So fresh. Loads of toppings stuffed in the taco shells. Even the taco shells tasted very fresh. We ended up sharing my wife's plate and saved most of mine for leftovers. We'll be back (but we'll probably share a plate next time). Also, the service was top notch. Very attentive and friendly staff. Very clean restaurant too. Nice simple decor. This is a Mexican joint run by a couple of youths from India which we found out after chatting with the server ( Rudvait was his name, if I remember correctly !) who is one of them. I was at the restaurant along with my wife after a wonderful hike earlier in the day. The server was pleasant to chat with but unfortunately he tried to pull a fast one which did not (....and never!) sit well with my wife and myself. So here's what happened! While placing our lunch order, my wife was hesitating if she should order the Salsa or the Guacamole with the tortilla chips for the appetizer, however in the end she placed the order for the Guacamole. When the order arrived Rudvait took it upon himself to bring us a sampler of the 2 salsa's (...which we did not order !) as well (NOTE: The samplers were literally 2 spoon of each salsa in a mini container the size of a ketchup container). My wife looked at me and thought how wonderful a gesture from Rudvait. However my instincts told me otherwise since something did not feel right and I instantly told my wife to check the bill when it arrives. And I was NOT wrong......Mr. Rudvait had charged $5 for the 2 spoonfull of each sampler that we thought was a good gesture on his part and had never ordered. My wife of course had him remove the charges (...and not that he had a choice!) Here a are a few additional issues: 1) Food Quality: We ordered chicken tacos. For the price they charge ($16) one would expect real chicken, however this restaurant uses processed chicken (....similar to chicken nuggets at Mc Donalds with out the breading) diced up. The guacamole was store bought 2) Pricing: $16 for processed chicken & $12 for store bought guacamole. Enough said ! You be the judge. 3) Upselling: Mr. Rudvait will turn on his charm and try to upsell you to the most expensive drinks and menu item instead of genuinely guiding the customer when placing their order. (I can always appreciate a server making an effort to upsell as part of his job but have an issue when done without integrity!) Bottom line........Dont try to cheat or pull a fast one on your customers when running a customer service business. Customers are there just to enjoy the food and in that time hope to have the server make it that much more pleasant an experience. While I admire the entrepreneurship shown by these young youths from India, I suggest (...for what its worth!) mending your ways for the better (......i.e run the business with Integrity, align the Food quality with pricing and authentic mexican flavors! read more

What a nice little hidden gem! This place is bit hidden if you're a traveler as it is not along highway 16. Never could've imagined to be able to find a top notch Mexican street tacos restaurant in this small town. Definitely caught me by surprise. As I pulled up I could see the amount of people in the restaurant, so I knew it would be good. It's cafe ordering style, so you order at the counter and go back to your table. The waitress will bring your food out for you. Lots of options to choose from. You can choose between 3 regular size tacos or 6 street tacos, which are smaller. In terms of portion, I think it ends up to be about the same, so it really just depends on which meat you'd like. I ordered the pork street taco and they were phenomenal. If you've had taco in Mexico before, you can expect them to be very similar! Plated a lot nicer of course. Pure deliciousness. Such a satisfying experience with one of their Mexican beers, especially after my long hike. Going back for sure! read more

So you arrived in Hinton of all places and you want some decent food that's fresh and not greasy and fast. Well if you like Mexican that's fresh and tasty, this is the place to look. This place isn't a Taco Bell, or an out of the way greasy spoon, this is hand made food from fresh ingredients. I came in at the end of the day on Saturday (they're closed Sunday, and Monday) and the food was still fresh and tasty. The restaurant was clean and well decorated and the home made Mexican style hot sauces were really good. I had the Mexican style tacos with a crispy breaded chicken. You can also get fish or bean. I think there was steak too but I'm not sure. They also have alcohol so enjoying a margarita with your food is an option! All in all, a great dining experience and a genuine surprise considering how run of the mill other local offerings around town are. I'd recommend checking them out. Highly recommend! This is one of few authentic classic Mexican restaurants in Alberta! The street tacos are amazing! We recommend doing 3&3 as one order comes with 6 tacos. We had the 3 chicken and 3 pork! We also had the shrimp tacos which were pretty good, although the shrimp was deep fried. The shrimp we actually cooked perfectly (not rubbery) which I didn't expect but the batter was too much. I wish it was just shrimp with no batter. The home made hot sauces were incredibly. We tried three of them, not sure which ones but there was a hot one with a brownish colour which was very good if you like spicy, a red one that was a medium hot that had great flavour, and a green jalapeño one that wasn't very spicy but super creamy and flavourful! We would put both the green one and red one on our tacos and it made a great combination of creamy, spicy and flavour! We also order the appetizer nachos that we honestly just mediocre, not amazing but they make a good starter especially if you are hungry. We order take out, and when ordering on the phone it was very quick and we only had to wait about 15min before picking up. We came to this place for dinner after a long trip in Jasper National Park, as we saw very positive reviews in Yelp. We ordered guac and chips, Mexican tacos, street tacos, Tortas, and quesadilla. The food comes pretty fast and the waitress is very friendly. but the food was quite disappointing. The guac was too salty and did not taste fresh. All meat in every course was so dry and hard to chew. it is not even as good as fast food restaurantChipotle or Qdoba in the states. the only thing ok was the mango margarita. I know this is small town, and we should better manage our expectation, but they can definitely do a better job here. read more

So flavourful! We had the fish tacos (some of my favourites I've ever had), beef tostadas, a potato appie and a brownie. All excellent. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.
