We ended up eating here for 2 of our 3 breakfasts while in Jasper. This seems to be like a Canadian analog to Denny's as we saw them in several towns while travelling. It is located about a block off the main street close the center of town. Street parking is free before 9 a.m. and there are plenty of spaces nearby. We got there at opening time (7 a.m.) the first day and a half hour or so later the second day. The menu has a large number of breakfast options, though they are open for lunch / dinner as well, apparently. We had fairly standard bacon / eggs / toast platters the first day and my wife got an omelet the second day. We left satisfied. The coffee was good too. The only leftovers we had was some toast (they give you 4 half-slices with a plate, which is a bit much for me. However, we turned that into a snack sandwich with some spread, which was good later on. If your hotel does not have a connected restaurant or if you just want to branch out a bit for breakfast, Smitty's seemed like a good choice. read more

Saw the billboards all over Canada for this place and since we couldn't decide where to eat, we picked it. The food was a bit pricey considering the portion size was small. It was your standard Denny type restaurant. I had the salisbury steak which the waitress was kind enough to point out that it was a beef patty with mushroom sauce and gravy served with mashed potatoes. She was right. It literally was just that. Came with two soups of mashed potatoes and I was able to substitute the veggies for a side salad. It would have looked a like nicer if they didn't just plop a scoop of mashed potatoes on the plate. Hmmm. If they served it on top of rice and added an egg, they could have called it a loco moco! Hubs has the fettuccine and meatballs. Again, the portion was small. The meatballs were okay and the noodles had a good texture. The toasted bread on the side was pretty good too. Overall it was okay. Don't expect anything to knock your socks off but it's "safe" food albeit a bit pricy for the amount you food you get. After a day of hiking I was still hungry! read more

I was really looking forward to a Smitty's breakfast as I hadn't visited Jasper in years and we ate there last time. The interior was grimy and messy as there were boxes in the bar area. The washrooms were barely clean and needed an update. The food was vastly overpriced as the quality was extremely low. I ordered an omelet with bacon and cheese and what I got was a cheese omelet with slices of bacon just laid on top. The hashbrowns were overlooked and not tasty and the bread was spongey. The bill for two breakfasts came close to $60 in total and wasn't worth a fraction of the price. I didn't eat even half of the food as it was so terrible. I think the best thing about this place is that they have free wifi. Other than that, the food is sub par. I wasn't feeling hungry that morning we came here, so I only ordered a side of fruit for $4. What I got was the smallest fruit cup ever, and the fruit in it was even kind of going bad and had spots on it. There was only 1 strawberry in there along with some melon pieces, and the 1 strawberry they gave me had mushy spots all over it :-/ On the plus side, they give you a LOT of food. Usually diner type joints are known for being able to crank out good food fast. This place served average food slowly. Our server was friendly enough but given the place was less than half full on a Monday night she was hard to track down. My partner wanted breakfast food for dinner and what she got was fine. My Monte Cristo sandwich was dry with little turkey and ham. And the poutine was far from authentic. Overall there are much better places in town to spend your money - I'd go elsewhere. Passing through from Edmonton to the USA, rainy morning. Alberta cycling event had all downtown roads closed so stopped at the first place we found parking. It looked like a chain, but needed a good breakfast and the place was packed. Kids were happy, $5.99 kids pancakes or French toast with drinks and Oreos. We shared the Ukrainian skillet which was fried pierogies and a sprinkle of scrambled eggs. Should have ordered then with eggs over easy as they weren't three eggs as described in the menu but we weren't given a choice. Great unlimited coffee and the waitress was a gem! read more

So..... I feel like it is hard to mess up breakfast. This was the least favourite of the place we ate while in town. Here are the reasons why... The poached eggs were not cooked great. The waitress didn't bring the hot chocolate that we ordered, but in her favour, she also didn't put it on the check I order the extra fruit and hash browns ( that were not hash browns, but potatoes ), but thats a whole.other story..And there menu reads incorrectly, so they tried to charge me for something that claimed to come with..... At best and average place... my advice, go elsewhere read more

The food here is terrible. The Czech server was super nice but the food is gross. Packet hollandaise, over poor quality eggs, and there were pictures of hash browns in the menu and when the food arrived, the "hash browns" were just chunky breakfast potatoes w dried herb salt on it. Pretty much Canadian Denny's. Not really sure what happened to the other giving this place a bad review but our food was exactly what we expected. We got the Texas skillet and Denver omelet and they came out fine. Nothing to write home about but what diner food is? It's a chain franchise. If you're expecting something spectacular, this isn't the place to go. It's a family restaurant for those who like a familiar name with familiar food. It does the job. I've had about a 50/50 experience with this particular location where sometimes I'm quite happy with what I ordered and other times there was definitely room for improvement. It depends greatly on whoever is staffed at that time and how many customers are on site. This is truly the WORST excuse for a restaurant I have ever visited. The food is beyond hideous....and there is never any excuse for selling food this bad. I had what was advertised as veal parmagian. A piece of grey meat-like substance with orange cheddar cheese melted on it served with watery spaghetti with a spoonful of tomato sauce on it. My dining companion ordered the "Caesar Wrap"....it was filled with lettuce and a few tiny chunks of dry stale chicken-like substance. While in Jasper, we were looking for a place to get some breakfast and went to Smitty's. They were quite full, but we were seated soon and got our food in a timely manner. On our first visit, I had the Big Country Breakfast with 3 eggs, bacon and sausage, and 3 pancakes. It was quite good and filling. We decided to go back - I saw other tempting dishes that I want to try. On our second visit, I tried the Ukrainian Skillet and enjoyed it as well. I had never had perogies (kind of potato dumplings), but had wanted to - these were very good and tasty. Basically, I enjoyed both breakfasts we ate there. If you are in Jasper - or even passing through - go by Smitty's for a good breakfast. Better be early or you may have to wait a bit, but it will be worth it. read more

This is my first visit at jasper with my dad and we stumbled across Smitty's. We're originally from california and we absolutely love this place. A lot of nice people, and the food is really good. The eggs here are orange meaning they are fresher. I couldn't help but notice the low reviews and that so many people have said that Denny's is a lot better, not sure where else but the quality of Denny's in California, is really salty and the quality is not good. We never really liked too many American foods in California, we find it to be too fattening, too salty, and in some cases too sweet. We liked the Monte Carlo eggs Benedict and the international breakfast. The hash browns are well seasoned. read more

Well I love this chain, however this location is probably one of the worst locations I have ever been too. I have gone several times, so I do know it wasn't just a one time thing, unless every single time I go it's that one time lol. SO where do I start? Staff- don't seem to care or even like their job, let alone care about how your experience or food is, no one forced you to be a server. FOOD-IF you actually get what you ordered, be very happy because it is rare, for example I order a omlete today and BAXON was in the name of the omlete and asked for my toast to not be cut, they FORGOT the bacon and didn't even bring me toast....... This had to be the worst experience I've had in Canada. I ordered the $7.99 Breakfast off the senior menu. I requested egg whites. To my surprise and shock when I received my bill, there were 3 extra charges consisting of $3.99 for egg substitutes, $.99 for change of menu item, and a $1.79 for "some other ridiculous charge!" They charged me almost "double" for simple "egg whites!" Crazy! And, they were rude too! No tip for the waitress, and the food was so-so! If I could, I'd give this place a "zero rating!" Stopped at Smitty's in Jasper for breakfast today. The service was A-OK, but the food was your average diner food at an average diner price. Very similar to I-HOP if you like that sort of thing. We were happy to have free wifi, but the owner gave us evil glares and made us feel very uncomfortable when we were charging our computers in the wall sockets. You'd think that spending $20 on bacon and eggs (which probably costs them a couple of bucks to make) would be enough to be able to use the wall sockets without any hassle. It seems they're used to milking you for every penny you're worth up here in Jasper. At least they offer free wifi though - a definite PLUS considering the internet and laundry cafe down the street charges $3/hour for wifi. read more

I came here with my pops. He had the New York steak and I had the salmon. I'm pretty sure that nothing on either of our plates was fresh. The server was friendly, but that doesn't make up for the low quality food. I would highly recommend steering clear of this place, unless all you want is some pancakes and desert. read more
