TLDR: good Hawaiian/poke place has gotten even better - support a local business and give them a shot! Been going here for several years now - poke has always been solid and the Hawaiian dishes were good not great. But today it was all different - everything was outstanding! Wife got a 2 salmon scoop poke : fish was great as always, but the seasoned potatoes (gamja jorim) she chose as 1 of 3 sides was very good. Dad had the hwae-dupbap (think of it as Korean bibimbap but with poke instead of meat) and the Cho-gochujang sauce was excellent. I had the loco moco and it was better than in the past. Also the banchan with that were fire (seasoned japchae noodles, spicy shredded radish) both better than in the past They sell most of the side dishes as banchan and as a Korean I fully endorse them. I am a huge Korean banchan snob and I will absolutely countersign their cooking I don't know what's going on but like I said - everything tastes better than before. The ajumma who runs the place said business is getting slower as the economy is imploding so let's support this awesome local business so we can keep this place around. read more

Great casual place for Hawaiian and Korean plates! Portions are huge and filling, I got the Chicken Katsu bowl for $12. They also have Hawaiian sun, lots of sides, and snacks like banana bread. There's lots of seating inside and was empty on a Thursday evening but most people come in to order to go. Parking is available but it's a smaller, narrow parking lot. I just love this place. The kimchi is fresh instead of fermented and I just love it. The miso soup with the tofu along with the kimbop to me is a perfect lunch. The ladies obviously the owner and takes pride in it. There is no seaweed as it's Korean miso I got some of the fresh barley and corn. We paid this restaurant a visit on a Saturday around dinner time and had our pick of seats. The ambiance of the restaurant feels very mom and pop owned, everything from layout of the tables and decorations, to just the general vibe. Ordering and picking up the food is done at the counter. Service is relatively fast, from order to pickup took about 10ish minutes - note that we did go when there were not too many other customers. I got the Kimbap and Spicy Pork entree, and both of these options were generous in the amount of food that you receive. It was especially nice since the owner saw that we wanted Kimbap and she even decided to make a new rolls just for us! The kimbap is delicious and filling, just look at the size of them in the photo! Ingredients were fresh and served as a nice appetizer if you are feeling very hungry. As for the spicy pork entree, they really are generous with the amount of pork that you will receive - it was a huge helping of spicy pork that had good flavor. Not too spicy, and was complemented nicely with the mac salad, glass noodles, and radish side. In the end, I spent about $29 for these items that you see here. I would say that I was able to get almost 2 whole meals out of everything here, make it pretty worth it in my opinion. I've eaten here a few times, and it's a hit or miss. The first time everything was great, which convinced me to return and try other items on the menu. However, the next few times I was sorely disappointed. I suspect that sometimes the sides are a few days old. The japchae has been crunchy and hard, which is the not the typical texture you would find. The mac salad and cucumbers have tasted sour (more so than necessary) and have given off an odor that made me question if it was spoiled. Loved this Korean and Hawaiian fusion spot. You'll find the classics from both sides like Loco Moco, Kalua Pig, Poke, Bulgogi. I opted for the Kalua Pig and the Chicken Katsu. They are running a special for the Chicken Katsu right now where they'll throw in a large cup of curry (with meat and veggies, not just the sauce alone) for the same price you'd normally pay for the Chicken Katsu itself - great deal that I couldn't say no to! The Chicken Katsu was an absolute winner with that crispy goodness and the curry was delicious too. The meat in the Kalua Pig was quite dry though, and so I was disappointed in that plate compared to the ones I've had at other Hawaiian places. Other positive things that stood out to me during my visit: - Unlike at many of the cheap Korean restaurants I've been to, Ohana Kitchen was really generous here, everything from the napkin quantity to the utensils to the large portion sizes of the food. - The cleanliness of the place and seeing the owner lady actively spraying down and cleaning tables. - One neat feature is the "Grab and Go Delights" section with a variety of options in containers ranging from $6 to $10 each. We ordered a side salad, spam musubi, and the bbq chicken plate and were blown away by the portion sizes! The BBQ chicken was piping hot, sweet and savory, and very moist. The pickled radish that came with it was a perfect compliment to the BBQ chicken. The spam musubi was also excellent! My boyfriend and I came to Ohana Kitchen for the first time on a weekday night for dinner. The restaurant was quiet and there was only one other diner there at the time. However, a couple of people came by for takeout. Ohana serves all of your classic Hawaiian and Korean fare including BBQ chicken, bulgogi, BBQ pork, bibimbap, loco moco, spam musubi, etc. They also have poke, but if I'm being honest, it didn't look super fresh when I looked through the glass case. Additionally, they have slices of guava cake (I think from Paradise Bakery) packaged and ready to go in a refrigerated case. I ordered a Loco Moco and my boyfriend ordered a beef bulgogi. He also ordered a spam musubi (+$3.00). Prices are about $15+ per dish. The Loco Moco was decent and liked that they had lots of gravy for me to mix my rice with. The beef patties were tender. The bulgogi was okay, but was lacking a char flavor to it. Both dishes came with a side of jap chae (Korean sweet potato noodle) and macaroni salad. The jap chae was passable, but the macaroni salad lacked sweetness (perhaps it was missing rice vinegar?) and needed some texture to it like chopped carrots or celery; it tasted just like mayonnaise mixed with macaroni. Portions were generous and we had leftovers for a midnight snack later. Service was good and we received our food within 15-20 minutes. The owner was also very pleasant and made sure to ask us how we were enjoying our meal. As far as atmosphere, the restaurant itself is clean and casual. Definitely nothing fancy, but its simplicity mimics a lot of small dining places in Honolulu. Overall: 3.75/5 for food, 3.75/5 for atmosphere, 4/5 for service. read more

The jap chae at plate lunch places in Honolulu usually have some shredded veggies but this one was just noodles. The meat patty on the loco moco was moist and the spicy pork portion was plentiful with nice fatty pieces. The menu said that this would come with cucumber kimchi but ours both came with pickled radish which was really disappointing. In the cold case, we saw a full container of cucumber kimchi which we liked a lot more. Check out the refrigerated case for dessert options! I saw Patrick's Bakery cakes there for $6/slice which I would certainly get to try next time. I subtracted a star for a couple things. I did not appreciate that she did a bait and switch on the side dish without asking us. Ohana kitchen has about three reserved spots in the busy parking lot and may look low-key from the outside. It's a hawaiian/korean/poke shop so there's a lot of selection. I also haven't seen meat jun (egg coated beef) outside of Hawaii so it was a joy to get it! Plates come with cucumber salad, japchae, mac salad, and rice. The japchae was a little bland but good. Meat jun was also good and came with a dipping sauce. I also tried a bit of the chicken katsu - the meat is dark/white mixed and a little dry but comes with a sweeter katsu sauce. I was very satisfied with the food, price and thoughtfulness. It's always clean and in order inside, everything is well organized and easy to navigate. First off, I'm from Hawai'i. I'm a cocky snob when reviewing "Hawaiian" restaurants and food in other states, and yet I seek out Hawai'i restaurants when I'm on vacation. Found Ohana Kitchen and came here on 6/17/2021. Automatically skipped the poke bowls, because the other 49 states seem to think that poke is a salad. I ordered the meat jun, which is a Hawaiianized/Americanized Korean fish of thin-cut ribeye marinated in shoyu and sesame oil, dipped in egg and fried. The meat jun here is good and second best to the meat jun at the Kim Chee restaurant chain in Hawai'i (their restaurants are numbered Kim Chee #1 through Kim Chee #9 on O'ahu and Kaua'i). The highlight of the meal for me was the kim chee cucumbers, which were nicely marinated and had the perfect blend of softness and crispiness. Parking can be tight with high takeout traffic as well as so many delivery drivers picking up packages. read more

As for the bbq chicken plate, in my husbands exact words, "even the large white chunks of chicken that I thought would be bland or dry, were still tender and packed with flavor". Only complaint, the markups on door dash are truly atleast 30% higher than menu cost.
