The last time I went to Ohana was years ago and my experience then was just okay. This time though we stopped in for a quick bite- grabbed the kimbap and a spam musubi. The kimbap was super fresh, flavorful and you could tell was handmade with care. The musubi was also fresh, not one of those that are sitting under a heat lamp for hours, the nori was still crispy. Best Bulgogi in town, side dishes are fresh and absolutely to die for! I always have left overs with the large portions. This quickly became a go to favorite. Staff is friendly and feel almost family like. The inside is a large quiet space (I'd love to see it packed!) and feels very homey. The place was almost deserted when I went in; it was late afternoon so no big surprise there, but sometimes you go into a place and just get a feeling...It felt a little dark, with cold lighting. I ordered the bibimbap. The lady at the counter was very nice. She asked me if I wanted it to go or to eat in. I opted to eat there. The food came out, in a styrofoam takeout container. I said, "I was going to eat here." "We just use this container," she said. It was a layer of lukewarm (barely warm) rice, with some some kind of old looking beef, some boiled zucchini and broccoli, some kind of julienned carrot banchan, some bean sprouts and an egg, with some gochujang in a plastic condiment container. Not even any kimchi. ?! I know there's not a huge Korean community in Burien, and I wasn't expecting gosari or anything, but for $16, that was really pretty sub-basic. My son and I came here on our last night of our Pacific NW vacation. We were staying near the airport. I saw Ohana Kitchen on Yelp. Reviews were good, so we headed over. It was kind of rainy, so I was wearing my favorite rain jacket (yes, this is important, so stay with me). We found the restaurant after some confusion. It is in what I would call a strip mall. The signs are not very good, and the GPS got confused (or maybe it was me), so finding it was a challenge. Finally, we found the restaurant and a place to park in front. We walked in and ordered. I ordered poke; my son ordered udon. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. There was an issue with my son's soup, but he said not to hassle it. The poke was ok. The reason I am giving four stars is the people working here are good, decent, hard-working people. I left my jacket that I absolutely love in the restaurant when I left. I did not realize my error until the next morning when we were doing our final packing. We had to get to the airport long before the restaurant opened. I figured the jacket may be gone for good. When we arrived home, I called the restaurant. There is a language issue, but I was able to communicate enough that the staff said they would hold on to the jacket for me. I don't know anyone in the Seatac area, and I am not planning on any return trips anytime soon. I decided I would go to the post office and send a pre-paid envelope that would fit the jacket. I wrote a letter to the restaurant to explain the situation. Postage cost about $20, but replacing the jacket would be 10x the cost of postage. It was worth the gamble. Well, today I got the post office notice that my package was on the way. In fact, the package arrived today with my jacket. I am very happy that it arrived back safe and sound. It's time I updated this review and upgraded to 4 Stars. Primarily the 4 Stars are for 2 dishes. The 2 Scoop Poke: Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon is what I get at Ohana Kitchen 70% of the time. It is full of flavor, freshness, and broke da mouth goodness. I always have to get half rice because the full boat is just too much for lunch. My favorite sides are the Masago, Imitation Crab, and Radish! Such GOODNESS. The Kalbi Plate is the definition of a home cooked meal. While my first time(s) trying this I marked it down for being a bit too chewy, OK seems to have rectified this and its pure meat delight happiness. Ohana kitchen is an excellent way to get some hawaiian grub in downtown burien. Parking may be a little tight in thier shared lot. The staff is friendly, the food comes fast. We had the spicy pork that came with rice, mac salad, cucumber kim chi (we asked not to have this, not a fan of kim chi), and japchae (glass noodles). We also ordered beef yakisoba, and an order of gyoza. The food overall was good. So typically when I come into town, I am Always trying to find some poke. This is one of the few locations that I frequent for work that has a decent selection of poke. I found this one on Yelp and it was on my route of travel so I decided to stop in. The parking lot and building looks a touch dated. Be careful when you roll in....all the parking spots on angled one direction. Upon entering the building, the sitting area was a decent size. It did look like the building, a touch dated but I don't mind that. I had already looked over the menu and knew I wanted a poke bowl. I got the two scoop poke bowl. I recommend getting the second scoop. It is only $2 more. The bowl came with a health amount of rice and your choice of four types of poke (salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, spicy salmon). I grabbed the two spicy choices then I got to pick three toppings. I went with the cucumber kimchi, seaweed salad and pickled ginger. This did not let me down. The staff did not let me down. From walking in to eating was 4 minutes. They were super welcoming and friendly. 10/10 would stop in here again! read more

Reading the reviews, I think one probably needs to be familiar with Hawaii food to appreciate what Ohana Kitchen is. It's not a Korean spot or a Hawaiian spot. It's reminiscent of food one grew up eating in Hawaii and as a mainland transplant, since we don't have Zippy's or Rainbow Drive-In here (IYKYK), we are always on the lookout for local Hawaii-inspired food. I actually went here because it's one of the only places I've found that makes meat jun. I love meat Jun - Kim Chee III (Kaimuki), Yummy's (Ala Moana), Soon's (Salt Lake City) meat Jun! Restaurants don't make it up in Washington because it's a Hawaii food thing. But when I looked at the full menu, I was drawn instead to the chicken Katsu curry. I still need to go back and try the meat Jun, but I'm a sucker for curry. It was was pricey - I think about $90. And it was ok. I can make my own meat Jun and katsu curry, but was hoping to find a place where I could order it. I appreciate what Ohana Kitchen is trying to do, and their portions were large. I loved the Japchae and Inari sushi that came with the plates! I put gravy on the Mac salad and it was yummy! I definitely want to go back and see if their meat jun tastes like home! read more

This review is strictly to go. I had just gotten tattooed near by a few days ago and was starving when I got finished. I ordered the kalbi to go as my friend said she eats here almost weekly. I probably should have gotten the poke. The kalbi was great. Very good, subtle flavor. Nice amount of smokiness and char on the meat. The sides were lacking a lot of flavors though. I was really looking forward to the Mac salad accompanying the dish but it was lacking a lot of flavor for me. Taste mainly of mayo. The kimchi cucumbers I got didn't have any flavor either. Just a mild pepper flavor. Which also made me sad cus I love cucumber kimchi. 4 star for quick friendly service. I'll definitely have to come back another time and try something else. MEAT JUN! This is my favorite dish to get at the homey and friendly Ohana Kitchen. Meat jun is basically egg-dipped bulgogi that's been fried up and it is delicious! This is the only place in the Seattle area that I know of that has it. It's actually pretty hard to find this kind of meat jun at most places. This place also has spicy pork (also yummy), poke, spam musubi, kimchi fried rice, chicken katsu, loco moco, and galbi. An adorable korean family runs this place, with the parents cooking up homey grub in the kitchen and the son manning the register up front. The other great thing about this place is that they offer hot barley tea, which I love to drink. Just another detail that makes me think of eating with my own family. Don't like barley tea? They also have Hawaiian Sun drinks! The banchan that comes with the food is delicious too - the cucumber kimchi is my favorite! Food is delicious and legit! Service is friendly and awesome! And the place is pretty spacious. Parking can be a it difficult at the lunch rush because they share the plaza with a pub and a bunch of other small businesses. Decided to give this place a go since the reviews have been pretty promising. We called in our order and within 15 mins, we arrived and the food were packed up at the register waiting for us. We were impressed. When we got home, we were ready to grub! We ordered bibimbap and the kalbi plate with sides of kimchi cukes, japche & mac salad. The bibimbap looked promising but lacked Gojujung sauce, they only dropped a small glob in the middle. Luckily, our kitchen is always prepared so we made more of our own. The ingredients they served with the bibimbap werent traditional but it was good enough if you dont want to drive out to Seattle. The kalbi had great flavor but the meat was tough! So tough that by the end of my meal, my jaws were tired from chewing. I still ate it tho bc it was tasty and I was hungry! Haha. The kimchi cucumbers were crispy and crunchy, simply delicious. The japche was seasoned well but again, didnt have traditional veggies that are usually in it such as spinach, mushrooms, etc. The mac salad wasn't bad but not memorable either. Overall, service and food I'd would give them 3.5 stars but since there arent half stars, I'll bump them up to 4 stars! read more
