This place was empty when I paid a visit because it was on a Monday, so I don't know how they are on a weekend. Please take my review with a grain of salt as this was the only sushi place open in all of Kent on Thanksgiving Day, which is the date I went to visit. I had placed a pickup order through GrubHub, and was quoted 30 minutes. It's located inside the Great Wall shopping mall, so parking was relatively easy to find and I was able to stay dry while waiting since the little store was indoors. Upon my arrival, they did not have my order and I waited another 15 minutes for my order to be ready. The poor staff was running around and rushed. It's also a very, very tiny place, with a narrow 4 person counter behind the line, and only 2 tables inside. They had placed some tables outside as well for patrons. I love menus that allow me to order varied items but also basic items like sashimi, and this place had both. They make a lot of different hand rolls that are packaged individually, as well as what's called a sushi donut (sashimi layered over donut shaped rice ball. It was such a fun and different way to eat sashimi. The food was fresh and really satisfying. The prices are pretty good too. read more

I was craving sushi and this place hit the spot! This is a cute spot tucked inside of Great Wall Shopping Mall center. What made us chose this spot was looking at the sushi platters. We wanted to bring home some sushi and this easily fed the 4 of us. We didn't really know what all we wanted so we decided to order it there and wait, it took about 40-45 mins so we just shopped around Great Wall. Next time we will definitely call it in if we want sushi togo again. The nigiri/ Daruma Platter was great, had a good variety on there and everything I tried was fresh. Just tried it tonight. It's inside the Wall mall, and it's a very tight squeeze. We never got napkins and another table had to ask for them as well. Water was lukewarm and we ran out for a bit before we got refills. However! The staff was very nice, and the sushi was very tasty. My husband and I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was quiet, peaceful and not crowded at all. We ordered a total of 6 things, and each one was very delicious. There were two servers, both extremely kind and sweet, and the food came out in a timely manner. However, one negative thing is that upon paying, they charged us a 10% service fee. I've expected that before from a party of 5+ at a restaurant but it was just the two of us. Neither one of the servers mentioned in advance there would be a service fee so I was a little disappointed to see that added on. In short Excellent fish in a limited space. Thoughtfully-balanced flavors in the rolls, with a nice family vibe. In long Great Wall Mall is a huge, bustling food court of a place. Even in mid-afternoon, well between the usual lunch and dinner rushes, I drove round and round before I found parking. And I didn't realize until I got here that the place was even in a mall--Daruma Ya does *not* have a sign outside, so I just took it on faith and wandered in. It's actually tough to stick with a decision on where to eat here. There are so many good spots. But nothing about our lunch disappointed either of us picky old goofballs (buddies from HS days, always been very particular about all kinds of things). Anyway, we sat down after a quick, friendly greetings from behind the bar. Our server came over right away. I'm having a harder and harder time estimating how old kids are--she had to be the owner's kid, and maybe somewhere between jr high and grad school. Definitely a charming pro in the dining room. She stayed in motion all the time, and so did the folks behind the bar. They're doing non-stop to-go orders plus juggling a few tables in store. The menu is not overwhelming but it certainly has some heft to it. Traditional, modern, and hand rolls, plenty of pictures (especially of modern rolls). Some sushi and sashimi sets, an omakase option, a few apps. We kind of wandered through from miso to rolls to cooked bits, too. We tried the Daruma, Midori, and one or two other rolls. You get great fresh flavors balanced against hints of sweetness or saltiness or citrus. Mild, but very clear, and definitely based on careful decision-making by the chef. I've had bigger flavors but nothing more pleasant in roll form. The seared tuna yesterday was bluefin, showing very very well, under a bit of cracked black pepper and tasting for all the world like a bite of tender steak. My buddy forgot he had ordered it, then we both felt like we were eating an unexpected treat. We were out the door feeling very full and happy for $40 each. Tough to beat that. The people are so, so nice here--just the kind of folks you want to support. I'll happily come back any time I don't mind dealing with a crowd. read more

Tonight's rolls. Second time here so it's time to start hunting down our favorites! Marigold: Not my cup of tea. Ithad cream cheese instead of cucumber that was stated on the menu. If you like smoked salmon and cream cheese this roll will be great for you. Red Spider: Delicious. And the Wasabi peas were a great add for texture. Top 3 Red Mango: Perfect. Bloody Orange: Surprisingly spicy but so clean and fresh tasting. Fantastic! Super Dragon Exactly as described. Thick delicious grilled Eel. Simple. The Great Wall: Creamy and spicy and sweet all at once. Top 3. The Daruma: I love this. You might not. Easily in my top 3 of all time. Mount Baker: Creamy and stacked high with real crab. Midori: Crisp and clean. Basic but perfect Awesome Poke: Perfect Tataki Both were a tad bit overseared but the flavor was good. Service: It's one tiny lady behind the counter. Wanted to like this place based on the 4+ star reviews across multiple platforms. Considering the rating, walking into an empty restaurant on a Friday night should have been the first red flag. Nice looking place on the exterior, but from a sushi and service standpoint. Nope. Orders took quite some time to arrive. While the presentation was good, sushi rice was dry, crumbly and flavorless. Fish was mushy, some pungent and accompanied by take out style condiments. Packaged wasabi and ginger for a sit down meal. And it's true. there is a service fee attached to your bill. read more

Fresh sushi in Kent, WA! I ordered from Renton, and the sushi arrived FRESH! The seafood was succulent, the vegetables crisp, and even the rice had the perfect texture. This is my new go-to sushi spot. Their poke is super simple but very yummy. They put some kind of sauce on it that really takes it up a notch and the price is super fair. I also like their sushi burritos. The fish is super fresh and the service is good. Plenty of parking within the Great Wall Mall lot, solid food for the price, and solid service. The space is a bit small with the table arrangements seating a maximum of 4 people in a group (anything bigger, and the horizontal space is not enough to line the tables), but my party of 2 was the only one present at 6PM on a Monday. There was one staff member managing everything from delivery orders, dining in, to cashier. This worked out at the time we were there, but I hope that in busier times this business has more than one person present. read more

Thanks to the Yelp community for the suggestion. Was looking forward to another sushi experience. This one did not disappoint. It t is a tiny restaurant tucked back in the Great Wall shopping mall. I think there are like 6 tables so it is right as if you were Tokyo. They have another location inside Boeing up in Everett according to the employee. The menu was fast for such a little place, but the sushi was spot on. We were the only patrons at the the moment so we placed an order for 4 rolls and I think the biggest cost was the dragon roll and at I think that $15, and if you look at the picture that is a solid piece of Unagi that runs the full length. A ton of eel! All the rolls were so tasty, cold and especially fresh. Although they don't have too many appetizers or non sushi items we ventured across the aisle to grab some Shumai, gyoza and other small plates. Even walked down and grabbed some fresh juice from another stall. Look forward to making it back to try some other rolls. Good spot for budget friendly sushi. This place is ideal for sushi if you're going with your kids or friends who aren't going to get anything too adventurous. Cucumber rolls, avocado rolls, spicy tuna and plates like that you can't really go wrong or beat the price. I eat sushi 3 times a week and this was a new place that I've been waiting for since my kids love the Mei wa bakery bread. So, I was happy to have a place to grab a fast lunch that's not filled with grease oil. I went in and sat down for lunch and the staff was very accommodating. I ordered the rainbow roll and happy to taste the crabmeat is not overfilled with mayo like other sushi place. Ok So oh my goodness this place was so delicious! It took a while to find but once I came in and sat down it was excellent every step of the way. Service was great from the greeting. Has a large menu with a nice variety of sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, sushi burritos, sushi tacos, sushi hand rolls, bento boxes, unagi don and other bowls. Prices are very reasonable. I had a Seafood combo roll (big roll with several different types of fish,avocado, tobiko), salmon and avocado roll, Seattle roll (salmon, avocado, cucumber, tobiko), and an eel hand roll. Ive watched her with minimal customers unable to work on my order while they were eating. when I got there she said 10-15 mins and she didn't even start my order. then she realized I was still there and then started my order, my order is 40 mins late for pick up and I just sat there with no acknowledgement until I stood up. need to hire more people and someone who can manage multiple customers. the foods okay. its not the best sushi to wait that long for. My gf & I come to Great Wall pretty frequently & came across this newly opened sushi spot. We ended up going here twice in one week. The first time we got a few orders of seared salmon nigiri, a spicy salmon hand roll & a spicy tuna hand roll. Being a big seared salmon fan I cannot lie when I say I was caught off guard on the quality of the salmon. The hand rolls hit heavy & everything tasted very fresh. The second time we came thru we got 6 orders of the seared salmon nigiri. The price for portion size is very reasonable & filling. This is a new sushi/omakase place located in Kent tucked inside of Great Wall Mall. The space inside is on the smaller side but feels roomy and close to the chefs, who are very nice and friendly. The menu is as you would expect from a typical Japanese sushi style restaurant in Washington state but what makes this place stands out for me is their food. We ordered their super dragon roll, baked scalloped roll and takoyaki and I have to say the rolls were presented very beautifully with decorations and very generous portions of toppings and unagi, the food is delicious. The takoyaki caught me by surprise as it was one of the most delicious takoyaki I've ever tried where its crunchy in the outside with good tasting batter and I can actually chew the nice big pieces of octopus inside the takoyaki. If you're in the mood for sushi when you're shopping in the area, come to this place, I very much recommend it! read more
