Found a seat immediately //ENVIRONMENT// Honestly the environment felt a bit sad. There was no music, it was super quiet and just not a typical restaurant environment. Even when I ordered I went up and had to write down my order on their receipt lol. //SERVICE// The service was really slow. I understand that rolls take a while to make and they have a lot of takeout orders but I would hope they'd improve based on what they're seeing. Here are some examples: - When we got there, there was another couple who already ordered and was waiting for their food. Three other parties came in and we all got their food before them. This couple never got their food, had to check and then waited more and then just left. We were there for 45 mins before we got there so they were waiting even longer. - Another party got their food before we did and we ordered before them. Also it was interesting in that this person got their order placed with the owner but we had to write our order down - As mentioned it took us about 45 minutes for 3 rolls. I thought this was kind of long. //FOOD// Food was amazing! If you can get past the wait the rolls are so good! They're fresh, tasty and not too large or too small! I got the Akron, Newport, and the Juneau! These were all so good! The tempura and fried soft shell crab was perfectly crispy and not soggy at all. The fish tasted so fresh! Service is incredibly no attentive. We waited for everything for a long time: water, ordering and check. They didn't even give us soy sauce until we asked. Food was inexpensive but not authentic. Too much rice for nigiri. Also the shape is round like a ball. Sushi rice is super important. Their rice wasn't good. Other raters say owners are Japanese. I didn't think so. Since COVID hit, they have not been open for dine-in and are take-out only. The thing that bothers me about this place is the consistently bad service, specifically from the lady who works there. Sushi Maki always knows how to satisfy my craving for sushi! I have only visited twice but the sushi has not been disappointing. First time i ordered was around lunch time and it took about 20 minutes to come by and get my food. Second time i ordered was 30 minutes before closing and my sushi was ready in 15 minutes. Not too long of a wait for miso soup and sushi. So far i have tried the Bismark roll and the Spider roll. Both were really good. I preferred the Bismark roll more just because the presentation and the taste matched with my high expectations when it comes to sushi. Miso soup was alright. It was my first time going here today, and it will be my last. I ordered two rolls to go and came back in 10-15 minutes to pick them up. The lady just sets a box down on the counter with the wasabi/ginger and soy sauce container on top. I didn't realize it was the soy sauce at first, because it was the size of a thimble and half-full. I asked for a bag, and then the tough guy wearing a mask said from behind her, "bags are 10 cent." I said, "Ok, I can swing that." I asked if they wanted me to break a dollar or if I could do another transaction. The lady, who was actually intelligent, said not to worry about it. When I got home I realized that the thimble was in fact all of the soy sauce that they had provided for the entire consumption of my two rolls of sushi. I called the man back to tell him Thank You, and he laughed his little girly laugh. Sushi Maki is my wife and I favorite spot to order from. We order for pick up (no dine in) and we usually order 2-3 rolls (jackson roll is yummy) along with some nigiri. The sushi are good quality and their price are decent as well. Their to-go container they use could be better, the sushi rice sticks to them which cause the rolls or rice to fall apart if not careful using chopsticks. A bit annoying but no biggie.
