My husband and I have really enjoyed Off the Hook on previous visits. The service is always excellent! We would go there perhaps one or two times a week and enjoyed their mahi and swordfish selections. Recently went and the menu had totally changed. There was not one thing that appealed to me on the menu . The prices increased and it seems the food choices had decreased. I ended up getting a Cesar salad, as that was the only choice of salads. My husband had a burger, which was good. Very disappointed with such a change. I'm not sure we will visit as often as we had been. We were so disappointed. read more

My husband and I had a great meal at Off the Hook! About a 5 minute drive from Sea Colony, this is some of the best seafood we've had in Bethany. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, hats off to the chef! Our waiter was very friendly, and we were seated quickly despite the restaurant being crowded. Parking is limited, so walk if you can. Also, the bar gets PACKED so get their early. We wanted to sit in the bar at 5pm but ended up having to sit at a table next to the restrooms instead. read more

I've eaten here a handful of times and had always had a great experience. We ate there recently and thought we had our minds made up on what to order. When I mentioned wanting crabcakes, the waiter raved about the new steak addition to the menu and saying I should get surf and turf so after eating seafood all week on vacation, I gave it a shot and paired it with crabcakes. Well the seafood dishes everyone ordered and crabcakes were still top notch but the strip steak was pretty bad. It was overcooked which is easy to do when it is a thin cut. It was not flavorful and there was no sign of the chimichurri sauce described on the menu. While I wasn't expecting high end steak house quality, I figured $65 for just the steak at a typically very good restaurant would lead to a decent cut of meat, cooked to preferred temp with some flavor. I am pretty certain the waiter could see my displeasure as I was putting salt and pepper on it but then they disappeared until we asked another staff member for the check when we were done. So I can still recommend the seafood dishes and they still have a great happy hour when we went earlier in the week but I was very put off by the upsell by the waiter who never once asked how our entrees ended up. read more

Meh. It wasn't spectacular. It wasn't bad AT ALL, but I don't have to go back. Our server was awkward; honestly she seemed afraid that our black would rub off on her. I would have taken more photos, but I lost my will to yelp as the meal progressed. They had a 3 for $25 special which saved about half. It's likely due to the off season here. In any event: the calamari was great the wings were "ok" the shrimp and grits was great the cathead cocktail was "ok" the orange drink - I forget the name - was outstanding the oysters were the best thing the bread was good according to everyone at our table - since I can't look at bread, let alone eat it. read more

I ate here last night with my family. I ordered the Oaxaca Sunset and Lemon Drop cocktails, the fried mushrooms, and the fish and chips. The highlight of my experience was the mushrooms and the cocktail: the mushrooms were crispy and delicious, and the aioli that came with it was perfect. The oaxaca sunset was strong, but in a good way, and the lemon drop was a great accompaniment to dinner. The fish was standard, if not a bit oily, and the chips were a little plain. My family had dinner on Thursday 8/19/21. People began lining up around 4:15 and the doors opened promptly at 4:30. Hostess was friendly and our waiter came over shortly after we were seated. We had calamari and bang bang shrimp appetizers, beef rib/shrimp, scallops and grits, lobster pasta and fish/chips entrees. All of our food was fresh, hot and well prepared. Our waiter kept our water filled and brought refills on soft drinks without being asked when our drinks were low. Good experience and I highly recommend this spot for date night or a family outing. My cousin and I took To-Go drinks- Painkiller and Nectarita to have at home. Ok for lightweights but real drinkers may need something a little stronger. read more

We just had to try this place for its name as my bf always uses the term off the hook. Ok my apologies for like the best thing on their menu and I sadly did not take the pic! So there's a giant octopus painted on wall of their dining room and their grilled octopus app is ... here comes "Off the Hook!" It was sooooo good! Best I've ever had both out and at home! Just may have to come back just for that this week while on vaca! It was perfectly seasoned, grilled and just flat out rocking w/flavor. I ordered the spicy Paloma and boy was it spicy and I'm always up for a good spicy margarita but the Paloma doesn't work out as great. Hey had to try it! Four stars went to the spicy category of the pan seared halibut it was actually blackened and my best friend's husband did not do spicy. Additionally, the rice in the gumbo like base was less than desirable as it was crunchy like the rice was left out n the top layered harden n then mixed in. Mind you the fish was very good for those of us who can handle the spice on both the halibut n swordfish. Definitely go to this place For good eats a couple of minor hiccups on the palate but it's a good spot and the crowd of diners attests to the honest goodness of this local gem! read more

It breaks my heart to write this review, because once upon a time Off the Hook was my favorite place to eat in Bethany, in fact, it was the first place we ate when we moved here 9 years ago. It was an intimate restaurant, with the specials on a chalkboard, highlighting what farms or purveyors the food was coming from. Probably the first place where I really saw farm-to-table. The kitchen was open & you could sit at the small bar & watch your food being cooked. There was a very talented young chef who prepared the food with such care. In the last few years, the restaurant has been re-done twice & while it is clearly getting bigger, the food now is just ordinary. The service has always been good & during the season I know it will jam packed, just never again with us. read more

We tried take out last night and came back the next day for dining. There are heated outdoor tables. Indoor looked awesome as well. Chilean sea bass, ahi tuna, mushroom flat bread, Caesar salad, calamari were fantastic. Add a couple of perfect martinis and cannot remember a better restaurant. Disappointed. We've been eating there for a few years. Skipped last week (4th of July) and tonight there's a new menu. No yummy salads or many of their superb entrees. Small plates are now available. No Greek salad, no beet salad, no tacos. Small Caesar and small panzenella are the only salads. Full portions of crab cakes, fish and chips, fish stew and tuna. No specials. What we had was good, but not what we expected or are used to. Check the new menu before you go. read more

We are a regular customers throughout the year and was surprised to see such an abbreviated menu. Many of the usual items have been removed. With half price entrees m-w how can you go wrong?! We had the jalapeño crab bisque which was heavenly. The oysters from Canada were petite, sweet and masterfully shucked with all their delicious juice intact. We eat out quite often and not deterred by prices,but disappointed that all our seafood dinners had a few veggies on our plate ( no rice/potatoes or a real good vegetable portion) . Our go to restaurant anytime we're in town! We've dined at all of the Hook chain restaurants in the DE Beach area and none of them disappoint. However, this is the one we frequent the most. Food A+...Service A+...restaurant is small so get there early. Their off season deals can't be beat! Sunday $15 entree...our favorite is Monday $2 fish/shrimp tacos. This past trip we ate Sunday and Monday..place is that good. (Everyday but Saturday has a deal in the off-season...see photos) On a side note I was there for the altercation below and the gentleman made a complete scene. Hostess tried her best to accommodate his request but he just wasn't happy. Small restaurant with split unit AC makes it difficult to cool without someone being cold. We bring sweatshirts every time we dine here just in case we're sitting near one of the two units. read more

Been going to Off the hook for several years..I hate review but- hopefully management reads this. Sunday lunch not busy slow service. We ordered 2 cheese burgers, garden salad, chicken sandwich, and fish. We ordered the burgers med - burgers were dry and bert on one side - may have been pre-cooked..fries very good, salad no onions and ranch dressing-salad loaded with onions and blue cheese dressing, chicken sandwich dry no taste. I really wish I could start off by saying that, "This place was off the hook!." "Cause I love puns and double entendres, but alas- I was kinda mildly dissapointed. So we started off with the crab dip- I think that's where it all went wrong. The crab dip tasted a little funk-tastic. Maybe a little old or there was something in it that I wasnt to thrilled with. We ordered the Caesar salad which was good albeit a little too lightly dressed and this tuna dish that was really expensive for the small piece of tuna that came on it over a bed of overdressed arugala and zuchini and squash skin. Yes, that's right. It kinda looked like someone took a heap out of the compost pile and put it in the middle of my plate. Yes, I know that you can eat the skin and you commonly do. But I wasn't a fan of this raw peel zuchini and squash skin application. I'm sorry - I think it was just a poor choice. The tomato gazpacho that surrounded it seemed out of place as well. The best thing by far we got there was the side of fries with gruyere, leeks, and bacon. Holy delicious fingers I could have had this for a meal. So - not a fan of the tuna dish - the caesar salad was fresh but a little weak. The fries were holy amazing. I'm panting thinking of them now. I would definitly go back and try more things as we had such a hard time making up our mind cause everything sounded so good. I'm assuming that this visit was just an off day. read more

The name of the restaurant fits perfectly because it definitely is OFF THE HOOK!!! while staying here for a beach weekend we have found it hard to find good quality food, but this is the spot!! We originally came to just get a beer and app, but then we started to see the dishes around us and said we need to try something. We got the crab cakes, Cesar salad and side of fries. Legit so good we left nothing not even a crumb in the plate! Cesar salad is served in a big bowl easily can be a meal or great sharing fish. Fresh romaine, crisp and cold topped with a sardine. Best part it was not OVERDRESSED. Perfectly balanced. Next we got the crab cakes served on a bed of cous cous and arugula. By far BEST CRAB CAKES IN BETHANY BEACH AND MOST LIKEY ALL OF DELAWARE. No fuss about them. They are perfectly sized, full of fresh crab meat and topped with a golden crisp for texture. Gobbled those suckers up. That dish is great for one or to share for two. Also got a side of fries and heck those were amazing as well. They have a great selection of other dishes I would Love to try like fish and chips, swordfish, rock shrimp, and other goodies. In addition, I saw the key lime pie being served and that looks like a great desert. All in all from service to food it gets a 9/10! These people understand customers in Bethany Beach! They were busy, their phones were ringing off the hook (literally) and they managed to take our order. There is an Italian restaurant on the same road (Rt. 26), very close to oth, who refuses to take your travel take out order if they are busy. The food for take out was way above par.
