Having frequented this location under its previous name, 99 Sea Level, I wanted to summarize our initial two experiences under the restaurant's new management and rebranding. Our first visit took place on Mother's Day around 4:00 PM. Because brunch was still being served and dinner didn't begin until 4:15 PM, I booked a table for two, and we passed the time at the bar. We caught some live music while I enjoyed a $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan before settling the bar tab. Once dinner service opened at 4:15 PM, we were seated inside at table 45 to escape a breezy outdoor deck. It turned out to be the debut day for their new menu. I ordered another $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan and the $36 seafood stew--a rich combination of fish, clams, shrimp, fennel, pepper, onion, Spanish chorizo, and tomato seafood broth accompanied by grilled bread. It was a generous portion, so I brought the remaining stew home to enjoy later that evening. To conclude the meal, I tried the Lucky 7 porter from Evolution Craft Brewing Company ($7), which featured dark dried fruit and sweet toffee tones balanced by notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Our server, Brendan V., did an excellent job caring for us and demonstrated great knowledge of the new menu, even while managing a large outdoor table with five children. Our total bill for that evening came to $114, excluding gratuity. We returned on Memorial Day for a second dinner, this time in a group of five that included family and a friend visiting from Scottsdale, AZ. Since the outdoor fire tables were completely full, we secured a table on the left side of the restaurant. I began with a spicy mango margarita for $14, which featured tequila, mango, lime, agave, jalapeno, and a tajin rim, and opted for the $36 seafood stew once again. Unfortunately, the cocktails were inconsistent this time; I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan up, but it tasted like watered-down bourbon. When a second Manhattan tasted exactly the same, I decided to cancel the order. Nevertheless, our server Nadine K. provided excellent service throughout the evening, and our bill came out to $92 before gratuity. I know the restaurant industry is difficult, and I am usually not one to write bad reviews, but this one is justified. Don't be lured by the great ocean views. This is still a hotel restaurant, and a mediocre one at best. The good . . . great views of the Atlantic and decent drinks. The bad . . . just about everything else. I'll preface this by saying that I was not going to write a review despite the underwhelming experience, but after the final straw, I simply can't resist. We started with a round of cocktails that were attractive and well mixed. The night was off to a good start. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. Appetizers were fried cauliflower and calamari. Entrees were crabcakes, a Caesar salad topped with a crabcake, seafood bucatini, and seafood stew. Service was indifferent at best. Server did not offer any specials until asked and did not know how to handle problems (see below). The appetizers came out and were fine. The cauliflower was fried, but not as crispy as a really good fried cauliflower. The chipotle aioli had a nice flavor. Calamari was well fried, but the sauce was overly salty. Then came the entrees. The seafood bucatini was the highlight in that it was perfectly acceptable. For $52, I expect a meaty crabcake with lots of jumbo lump. This crabcake was loaded with filler. As for the caesar salad, the menu says it comes with "Shaved parmesan, anchovies, croutons, house made caesar dressing." But the salad came out with no croutons. When we asked the server, he said they ran out of croutons and he needed to bring the manager over to offer a solution (which turned out to be sunflower seeds, smashed cashews, and leftover bread from the kitchen - when we said we'll take them, the server said we may be charged for keeping all three). Lettuce was also the top of the romaine, which was mushy and needed the non-existent croutons to save it. Then there's the seafood stew. The bowl came out with no spoon and no bread (and no plate for shells, but I guess that's not a necessity). They brought a spoon when asked, but said it doesn't come with bread, and we would need to order bread if we wanted it. Seemed odd, but okay. The broth was ridiculously salty and borderline inedible. We paid and left feeling like it was fine, but we probably won't return on future visits to Bethany. Then we checked the menu to see what it said about the seafood stew. Sure enough, it is supposed to come with "grilled bread." Perhaps they ran out of it with the croutons, but to say we would need to order it separately reflects a lack of knowledge of the menu, complete indifference, blatant lying, or all of the above. Beyond that, the pop music was far too loud for a restaurant that wants to be a decent restaurant. The view was nice, but I feel like I just threw my money into the ocean. read more

Atmosphere is lovely , food is tasteful, but the service needs professional help .. You can tell the servers are not properly trained ... We had to get our own salt & pepper, since the waiter never returned after the food was served.. Excellent location , they need to work on training the wait staff and host ... We asked for bread , their is a charge for bread , ridiculous .. No butter , no dipping oil , nothing .. Also , all the cleaning sprays, dirty towels for the tables were left right by our table ?? We went for valentines for their pre fixed menu. I assumed it was going to be just alright but honestly pretty blown away. All food had outstanding flavor and all things were cooked perfectly. The short rib rub was thoughtfully done and you didn't even need a knife to cut though it. We also loved the creativity of the fruity pebbles in the dessert. Wait staff was a bit slow, sea bass was a bit dry but amazing skin on it, and the price was a bit high ($80) and that's coming from someone who lives in DC. The restaurant was very big, lots of good lighting, very nice paintings, we were sat inside but outdoor seating had mini fire pits which looked very nice, my table and I got a seafood tower, and I got the shrimp bucatini. Both were phenomenal the presentation of the seafood tower was impeccable. The shrimp bucatini was very well done, I loved it all. It was pricey but for being at the beach and what you get, it really was very good value. The server whose name was Brenden was very nice. Came around multiple times to see if everything was okay and was very timely, would go again. read more

Surprisingly Delicious lunch for hotel food. I would have lunch again on a future vacation visit.

We had a reservation for lunch but when we got there they had no recollection. One waitress for the entire dining room. We were party of 5. She was serving a party of 10. A family with two children arrived 30 min after us and the children's table took precidence. It wasn't her fault she was the only server. We were seated at a fireplace table on the patio overlooking the dunes and boardwalk so the atmosphere was phenomenal. I ordered the Jonah Crab Claws which were slightly split. I had to attack them to get to the meat and I wound up covered in dripping water and Old Bay like I was eating blue crabs. I destroyed the cloth napkin and had to do a full cleanup in the bathroom before the entrees. Then I had the two crabcake entree ($52) and it was all filler. I'm from Maryland so I should know better but I was feeling optimistic. There was one lump of backfin on the whole plate. Very disappointing. No salt on the French fries. Don't do it. I'm loyal to Marriott but now they owe me. read more

We debated whether to write this review because we genuinely love Bethany Beach and want local businesses to succeed. However, after experiencing the same issue twice since March 2026, we felt compelled to share our experience. We made a reservation for five people at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, specifically requesting outdoor seating by a fire pit. We arrived early, at 5:20 p.m., only to be told that outdoor seating is essentially "first come, first served" and that all of those tables had already been taken. We were given two options: sit near the side of the building by the trash area or leave. This was especially frustrating because Ocean 99 accepts reservations through OpenTable, yet we were told that seating preferences are not really honored and that it operates more like a first-come, first-served system. When we expressed our disappointment, the situation became even more uncomfortable. Our waiter appeared visibly frustrated, dropped a bundle of knives near our feet, and told us that we were upsetting him because he was very busy. He then informed us that we needed to decide immediately where to sit or simply leave. Being told to "sit down or leave" is not the level of hospitality we expected. So, we chose to leave. Fortunately, we walked less than 50 feet to Harvest Tide and had an absolutely wonderful evening. The staff was welcoming, the service was attentive, and we were seated with a beautiful view overlooking Bethany Beach. In fact, it turned out to be one of the nicest dining experiences we've had in the area. The filet mignon was outstanding. So, in a strange way, thank you, Ocean 99, for introducing us to Harvest Tide. While we were disappointed by our experience at Ocean 99, we discovered a restaurant we'll happily return to again and again. read more

My party of 3 all got the Wednesday special: Prime Rib and Shrimp. None of us liked our prime rib, a lot of fat & gristle. Disappointing. Service was alright, our inexperienced waiter wasn't too helpful. Nice guy. The restaurant is nice, part of the Bethany Beach Residence Inn by Marriott. Easter buffet was horrible! Very little was available & had to wait for many dishes to be refilled. Not actually shrimp cocktail, was pick & peel! Oyster dish only had 12-15 & replenishment took 15 minutes. What I think they called bread pudding had crunchy pieces in it which I believed were pieces of egg shells. Hard to find something good to say about the food, only exception was the ham. Ham was good, hard to screw that up! The restaurant had many unoccupied tables yet it was hard to get attention from the waitress for more clean plates so we could return to the buffet. We were a family of 6 @ $58 each. Definitely regret going there and won't return. read more

I think this restaurant has recently changed owners or whoever runs it? Not entirely sure but it's at the Residence Inn hotel and we came here because it was raining outside. The food was delicious, everything we had. I think the only small issue I had was the timeliness of service, but it would have seemed to me they're trying to figure out all of that stuff. Overall great experience, hopefully they can keep up with the demand once it catches on. read more

The general manager, Jacob, did a fantastic job making sure we had a memorable evening. The world was closed for a forecasted blizzard, but Jacob still opened up just for us. Despite the storm, he honored our reservation. He was a one man show from the bar to the kitchen and everywhere in between. A bit disappointed in the Marriott's Ocean 99. We got a table on a Friday night without a wait - great - but then sat for about 15-20 minutes until anyone came by. Drinks were ordered and served except for my martini - the house special - which arrived at least 15 minutes later than everyone elses's drink. No explanation. I had the crabcake sandwich, which was served with a mixture of fresh veggies that were supposed to be served with my son-in-law's full crabcake dinner - so his plate was quite sparse until they brought French fries - that were supposed to be mine and that he didn't want. Two in our party ordered the seafood pasta, and said it was ok - nothing to write home about. We had a crab dip appetizer and a calamari appetizer also - pretty tasty, but were charged for extra toast for the crab dip. Really? They need to train staff better and prices should be more in line with other good restaurants in the area. read more

Ocean 99 has a great location right on the boards in Bethany Beach, friendly wait-staff and live music during Friday evening Happy Hour. The menu, however, is uninspired and the food is bland, overcooked with dips and sauces directly out of a bottle. We stopped by for Friday night happy hour with the plan to have supper, too. The Happy Hour menu has only four (4) items and they are all fried items...neither creative, healthy nor particularly tasty. The dinner menu could have come from any mid-western chain food restaurant! Nothing on the menu was highlighting locally inspired items or recipes. It had a crab cake sandwich but with chipotle remoulade not cocktail or tartar sauce. The drinks were also very bland...the Orange crush was void of fresh orange and weak on liquor! Based on the Happy Hour experience, we passed on having supper there and went to one of the excellent dining places in Bethany...there are many better places! read more

Best eatery on the boardwalk- finally! The tuna ceviche BOMB. The smash burger was awesome (came out quick, too) and the beet salad had perfect farm fresh beets on top of delicious goat cheese drizzled with glazed balsamic with seared tuna (add-on). I don't know who took over this restaurant- but bravo for making this premier location even better. Shout out to Michael- probably the most personable and fun bartender I've come across in quite sometime (try the pina colada with a Diplomatica float). My husband and I grabbed a quick lunch at the bar. The bartender Jordan let us know what was popular on the menu and he did not steer us wrong. The clams in tomato broth with sausage were delicious.
