Bethany Boathouse is a bar food ish place with live music. The food is good, the music is good, the service is good. It's a pretty reliable food restaurant. I don't come to the ocean and run to the Boathouse, but if we see it my kids want to stop. They do have a good tuna and seaweed meal and giant pretzel that are delicious. If you want entertainment and food it's a good spot.

The service was good, but my crab cakes were so small and just didnt taste as good.Their crab cakes use to be huge and tasty. Hate the waffle fries. Think we will skip the place next time.

Everything else but Boathouse Nachos was just ok, redeemed under a broiler to make crispy & added homemade seasoning for flavor.

Most of the food ordered thru DD was acceptable, average but edible. Boathouse Nachos w/ Chili Lime Shrimp for $26 was not worth it (maybe in house, however most chips were not crispy.) Flavor & seasoning were lacking, crisped up fried things under house broiler & sprinkled w/ spices at home for better experience.

3-5pm Happy Hour offerings at Bethany Boathouse

UPDATE: 8/24 --- We had Happy Hour (3-5pm) at the Bethany Boathouse this past week & was pleasantly surprised. Last time we were here (9 years ago! Eeep!) it was chaotic and only a 3 star experience. But this time it was a super experience! Why did we wait so long? Christie, our fav bartender from OVBFG, took great care of us! Kind, attentive, funny, and caring. She's such a treasure! Mom got a not too stingy pour of Pinto Giorgio in a fun short souvenir cup and I tried their 20oz Orange Crush also in a take home squeezee cup! We sampled the Happy Hour food at the bar. We shared an excellent plate Chicken Nacho's and handful of Steamed Shrimp and waffle fries both reasonably priced at $7.50. It was a clear breezy afternoon and it was lovely - GREAT VIBE!

My friend and I visited Bethany Boathouse on a Sunday (late) afternoon and got seated right away on the patio. The ambiance was pleasant and we arrived just in time for live music! Our server was so nervous but so sweet - I think it may have been her first day. For drinks, we both ordered boozy milkshakes. My friend chose the Aye Aye Captain and I got the one with Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey (can't find the name). Both were tasty, but not very boozy - mostly just a vanilla milkshake. However, they do offer floaters for an up-charge. For food, we shared the Chips and Dips and Lump Crabcakes Platter. The food came out quickly and portion sizes were very generous - we had plenty of leftovers to bring home! The food itself was good but nothing mind-blowing. Would return for the drinks and vibes though!

Staff was very polite, food was delicious. We were looking for a place to eat and bring our pup. They allowed pups. Would definitely return!

Having a drink after dinner. Fun place.

We had dinner and stick around for the ambiance and the music. There's a great summer vibe to this place. Beautiful spot to chill and have dinner/drinks.

The Bethany Boathouse food is good. The Pretzel is huge in size and flavor. I love that it has plenty of cheese and mustard sauce. The Fish & Chips are great with a generous portion of fish, a small side of really good Cole slaw, yummy tartar sauce, and very tasty Waffle fries. The Fish tacos are tasty, and have slaw and pico, and are also served with tasty waffle fries. The outside seating is not as cool as the inside hi top tables which have AC, but it was a cool day & was pleasant. There is a fountain out front that entertains the kids with a mechanical alligator head the rotates in the water. The service was great. The bar looks fun with several large T .V.s set up to watch sports. I love the food and service & will be back.

I enjoyed this place. We just drove in to bethany and wanted a quick bite near our hotel. Seating was extremely fast even though it was packed. We ordered the wings and fries and basically got them in less than 10minutes. Service was super fast and seemed like they sometimes read our minds. I was not expecting this place to be great based off of reviews but I would say go! Never can go wrong with some wings and shrimp :)

This place is located close to Hotel Bethany Beach, and has a good variety of options that are reasonably priced. They have seafood and American food. I got the Jerk Chicken tacos as shown here. The service was quick, which I appreciated.

If you come to Bethany you have to check out the Boathouse. Great place for families and in the summer they have live music some nights. They do also have online waitlist that you can join if you are here during the busy season. Be prepared though service can sometimes be slow when you first arrive, but once you order food comes out fairly quickly. The crushes are great! I love their shrimp tacos. Perfect amount of shrimp and a little kick from the pico makes them delicious. Waffle fries are also crispy and yummy. Crab cakes are good as well! Service is great and always a spot we visit every time we come to Bethany.

Stopped by the Boathouse while on vacation in Bethany Beach for dinner and drinks. We drove over from South Bethany and the parking lot was really busy, so you may have some trouble finding a spot. The place was packed but luckily we scored two seats at the main bar. The Boathouse is a very chill, casual vibe. They have live music daily and a play area for kids. There's no air conditioning, just some ceiling fans, so it can feel quite warm in there if it's a hot/sticky night. For drinks, I tried the spicy pineapple margarita crush and my fiancé got the orange crush. The drinks were good but very pulpy. My fiancé later ordered a frozen Miami Vice. One of the bartenders said he wouldn't have agreed to make it, too much waste, but luckily the one who took our order said he would. It was a really good Miami vice. For food, we started with the homemade jalapeno poppers. They were really tasty. For mains, I got the fried shrimp basket and my fiancé got the cheesesteak with a side of waffle fries for us to share. The food was pretty good. The dynamite sauce with the shrimp was really tasty. Please note the price for the shrimp basket online is wrong - it's only $17. All in all, it was a fun time. Definitely a happening spot to go for happy hour.

The crab dip was full of lump crab and paired well with the cracker. Wish there was more octopus in the other starter but had good antipasto like flavors. I got the double cut pork chop as my main and enjoyed. It was cooked well and I liked the balsamic on the plate, however I do wish it had some sauce to pair with. The potatoes were great and a crowd pleaser. Drinks were solid. The pear martini was fresh and sweet. Shirley temple was standard but could've been fizzier in my opinion. We split 4 desserts amongst us: key lime pie, honey cake, flourless chocolate cake, and a peach crumb cake. The honey cake is unique and had a great moist yet spongy texture. The pie was a runner up, we liked the tartness and thick crust. We do wish our server paid more attention to us especially in the beginning. We weren't offered any bread and felt like the wait for food was very long. Other tables who arrived after us had already got their entrees and desserts while we were still waiting for mains. He also didn't check up on us like he did with the surrounding tables. The young bus boy however was great and kindly helped us in between.

Review for Heidaway - Bethany Beach, DE…read more It was the weekend after Memorial Day 2025--when the beach is still buzzing, but you can actually find parking and order a drink without elbowing someone in a straw hat. We rolled into Bethany Beach to kick off our summer, minus the chaos, and Heidaway was the first place that pulled us in with a wink and a steel drum beat. Right on the edge of the boardwalk, this place has big tropical energy. Think Key West meets Delaware--palm fronds, sea breeze, and the gentle background hum of fun. The outdoor seating is shaded but still breezy, like Mother Nature knows you want SPF without sweating through your shirt. And the music? Bright, beachy, and setting the scene for "yes, we are on vacation, thank you." Service? On point. From the friendly hostess to our magical waitress who somehow knew when we needed napkins, another round, or just a smile--everyone brought their A-game. No tourist trap vibes here. Just good, solid hospitality. Cocktails: We kicked off with a Moscow Mule, chilled in a classic copper mug and strong enough to make you forget your group chat's been blowing up since Tuesday. Spicy, refreshing, and just boozy enough to remind you you're off the clock. And the second drink? Let's call it the Mystery Mai Tai of Joy. We don't remember what was in it. We just know it was tropical, delicious, and made us say "we should move here" at least twice. The Food: Oysters Rockefeller - Baked to perfection, smothered in a creamy, herby sauce and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. The kind of dish that makes you lean back in your chair and toss your plate at a fireplace (if they had one) Lobster Roll & Fries - A buttery masterpiece. Generous chunks of lobster, golden toasted roll, and fries that nailed the crispy-soft ratio. They didn't hold back with the portions, and we didn't hold back either. Beet Salad - A beachy surprise hit. Sweet roasted beets, creamy goat cheese spread, and peppery arugula doing a power pose on the plate. It made us feel like we were balancing out the rest of the meal... even if dessert was already a foregone conclusion. If you're heading to Bethany and want to dodge the madness while still soaking up summer magic, Heidaway is a great spot. Come for the drinks, stay for the oysters, and let the ocean breeze convince you that everything is right in the world--even if only until Monday.

I wish my phone didn't die and I would have had more pictures. But I'll tell you that the food here is amazing and you can see they really put a lot of work and care into every single ingredient. My husband even noticed the micro cilantro in the carrot tahini hummus! The ingredients are all busting with flavors. I had the swordfish, which was brown butter basted and very tasty and prepared with caramelized baby turnips & fennel- so good! My husband even noticed enjoyed his caesar and steak salad and we both ate every last drop. I will summarize my four most recent happy hour off season visits. We were first here at the bar with my six family and friends. Well finally the off season happy hour half price dinner entrees have finally returned here starting around mid October with pretty much the same entrees and menu as last year. They subsequently updated the half price entrees in early November. All items have pretty much returned here except for some new entrees. The good news is that at least two new half price happy hour dinner entrees were added including the surf and turf with espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon with two skewered shrimps, yukon mash, tomato garnash with blue cheese in the middle of the tomato for $40 or half price for only $20. I never had espresso encrusted filet mignon, therefore I ordered and enjoyed mine medium rare. I could barely taste the encrusted espresso. I ended my dinner with my favorite Fiddlehead's draft honey porter for $6. My total bill was $111 with half price discount of $36.50 so my final bill was $77. On my second return I enjoyed my ahi tuna rice bowl with broccoli, ginger fried house rice, sprouts and ginger vinaigrette for $36 or half price for $18. My total bill was $72 excluding gratuity. On my third return I again enjoyed the espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon, which I had ordered medium rare, but was over cooked to medium. I did not complain about returning my filet for a replacement, however I did show it to bartender Dennis. Next time I will order my filet rare. On my fourth return I enjoyed my usual cosmos and my ahi tuna rice bowl which was always properly cooked ahi style. Bartender Dennis always remembers I prefer a little extra spice, without me even asking for my Sriracha. Dennis recommended both of the above entrees. See my most recent pic of the new menu. Chef Cowan waved to me at the bar. Bartender Dennis served us very well supported by our usual excellent recommendations and conversations. Chandra and Cameron also said hello. The staff here are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On Black Friday I purchased another $1k in gift cards for the off season from Off The Hook and Hooked in OC. Needless to say we will continue to return here for happy hour to spend our $1k.
