Local seafood spot with a nice, oceanic vibe! Chandra provided great service the Wednesday night we dined here and took advantage of off season discounts. We enjoyed the swordfish dinner and cioppino dinner-both delightfully prepared and delicious!

OFF THE HOOK IN BETHANY!!!!! I'm reviewing this on behalf of my lovely daughter and my family vacationing in the area. In short, she simply loves the spot and "ordered the kung poa calamari, tuna tataki , her meemaw got a shrimp spaghetti in a vodka sauce and her mom got some salad. All was at minimum a 7.5/10. Drinks were also amazing. Service was good and quick and good atmosphere". Pretty sure my grandson got the scraps and crumbs. GO GET HOOKED!

This was a gem! We enjoyed our whole experience from the cocktails to the food. Seared ahi appetizer, Surf and turf, and shrimp spaghetti was all a 10/10! Servers were so attentive and kind. We really enjoyed our experience here.

One of several hook restaurants . We started with a beet and arugula salad. Fresh ingredients with a nice vinaigrette got us off to a good start. Complementary bread slices and seasoned olive oil accompanied the salad spoke to the generosity of the restaurant. Speaking about largess, the restaurant started its buy one entree, get a lesser priced one free on Tuesday through Thursday. This deal is off season only. October through May. I had the halibut. It was cooked perfectly leaving it moist and tender. It was a humus for texture, wild mushrooms and onions that popped. My wife had scallops over polenta and corn chutney. The latter was great, and the halibut was excellent (i am allergic ) according to my wife. Both of our entrees had generous port Alas, too full for dessert, but it should be obvious. This is a can't miss restaurant.

    "Shrimp n grits"

This restaurant is anything but: ( add name of restaurant here) The food was an over compensation of style, taste, and execution. Let's start with my drink. I order a raspberry mint julep. First off...no. A mint julep just needs to be only..... My first dish ordered was there "staple" shrimp n grits w pulled pork. Again...no. At this point that's called a variation of shrimp gumbo. Ain't no shrimp n grits has any beef in it whatsoever. Also, the ration to shrimp n grits was 70/ 30. Last bit on this dish: All art, no flavor. Dish #1 sent back Dish # 2 ordered: jerk checkin wings w an added side of "sweet potatoe pie". Wings? Yes those were good. The "pie"? A) not a pie B) not sweet. Nor a potato. This one tasted sour. The claims were of notes w nosh, nutmeg, and Cinnamon. Ummm, when 3 people taste it and don't taste said notes....that ain't it. Side dish #1 sent back. Service: I do appreciate the patience with me since I had made several sent backs. So I thank you said staff for working with me Ambiance: listen..i get that here in DE it's the season of Flys...but to have them indoors and constantly flying around my legs....not only is it annoying.... At least we had a citronella candle brought out to our table to sit on top (if you the reader is curious...it didn't help)

We went for our first time on a "50% off entrees" Tuesday evening recently. We had a short wait, unfortunately they weren't serving outside due to lack of servers. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious - I got the maple salmon, my husband got the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The only negative was that due to the place being fully booked, it was extremely loud in there, with each table talking louder over the next to be heard. There was music in the background that just added to the noise and couldn't be clearly heard. Would definitely go back again.

I picked up to go here, just got a couple of small things. Spinach salad, and wings.. let me tell you as a previous server for 20 years, I've handled a lot of salads and wings over the years and these were top-notch. The pictures will show that these were to go items that could be plated right up at the restaurant and served just as they looked. You know when you see a commercial burger that looks perfect but it never looks like that when you get it, not the case here. The spinach salad had great fresh, quality ingredients, excellent size and a great price. The wings were very good, great quality, nice size, amazing taste. I will return! Thank you!

I met a friend in Bethany for lunch today. Off season, there are fewer places open. Neither one of us had dined at Off the Hook before, but it was a home run--I'm so glad we found it! We shared the calamari appetizer. It was really tasty and just the right amount of crunchy. I ordered the fish sandwich. It came on a really nice brioche bun. The fish was hot & the coating was very tasty. They serve pesto fries, which I was not sure about, but they were wonderful! The place has a nice bar and the decorations are very stylish. There are several seating areas--hightops, regular tables, and a booth or two. Something for everyone. The service was friendly.

    Do they take reservations?

No they do not take reservations.

    Is there outdoor dining available?

There were a few outdoor tables, maybe 4 or 5, by the entrance and effectively next to the car park, and there are some planters around to make it look nice, but the majority of the seating is indoors.

Is there parking available near restaurant?

Yes. Never have a problem with parking. It's a smaller resturant, so less cars. Hope that helps

    Do they take reservations?

No, but might might for large party's.

What are the gluten free options? Also, do they still do 50% off fish entrees on Tuesday?

I believe the offer that deal in the winter months. There are plenty of gluten free options. Lots of fresh fish, vegetables.

We also totally lucked out without having a reservation and got two seats at the bar. The hostess was super nice and gave us plenty of time before a reservation was due at 7pm. Shout out to the two, super-awesome bartenders who made our dinner even more enjoyable. For a small restaurant, it seemed like they made 1000 drinks while we had dinner! I wish my phone didn't die and I would have had more pictures. But I'll tell you that the food here is amazing and you can see they really put a lot of work and care into every single ingredient. My husband even noticed the micro cilantro in the carrot tahini hummus! The ingredients are all busting with flavors. I had the swordfish, which was brown butter basted and very tasty and prepared with caramelized baby turnips & fennel- so good! My husband even noticed enjoyed his caesar and steak salad and we both ate every last drop. While we were kinda in the heat of everything.. busy bar and right next to the kitchen, the energy in the restaurant was amazing and you could tell the whole restaurant was working hard for the busy holiday crowd. Review for Heidaway - Bethany Beach, DE…read more It was the weekend after Memorial Day 2025--when the beach is still buzzing, but you can actually find parking and order a drink without elbowing someone in a straw hat. We rolled into Bethany Beach to kick off our summer, minus the chaos, and Heidaway was the first place that pulled us in with a wink and a steel drum beat. Right on the edge of the boardwalk, this place has big tropical energy. Think Key West meets Delaware--palm fronds, sea breeze, and the gentle background hum of fun. The outdoor seating is shaded but still breezy, like Mother Nature knows you want SPF without sweating through your shirt. And the music? Bright, beachy, and setting the scene for "yes, we are on vacation, thank you." Service? On point. From the friendly hostess to our magical waitress who somehow knew when we needed napkins, another round, or just a smile--everyone brought their A-game. No tourist trap vibes here. Just good, solid hospitality. Cocktails: We kicked off with a Moscow Mule, chilled in a classic copper mug and strong enough to make you forget your group chat's been blowing up since Tuesday. Spicy, refreshing, and just boozy enough to remind you you're off the clock. And the second drink? Let's call it the Mystery Mai Tai of Joy. We don't remember what was in it. We just know it was tropical, delicious, and made us say "we should move here" at least twice. The Food: Oysters Rockefeller - Baked to perfection, smothered in a creamy, herby sauce and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. The kind of dish that makes you lean back in your chair and toss your plate at a fireplace (if they had one) Lobster Roll & Fries - A buttery masterpiece. Generous chunks of lobster, golden toasted roll, and fries that nailed the crispy-soft ratio. They didn't hold back with the portions, and we didn't hold back either. Beet Salad - A beachy surprise hit. Sweet roasted beets, creamy goat cheese spread, and peppery arugula doing a power pose on the plate. It made us feel like we were balancing out the rest of the meal... even if dessert was already a foregone conclusion. If you're heading to Bethany and want to dodge the madness while still soaking up summer magic, Heidaway is a great spot. Come for the drinks, stay for the oysters, and let the ocean breeze convince you that everything is right in the world--even if only until Monday.

I will summarize my three most recent visits in March during the off season on Friday's at 4 PM. We arrived at 3:50 PM prior to their open at 4 PM. Already two people were online. We waited in my Audi waiting for other customers to arrive. Other vehicles arrived around 3:55 PM so we exited my Audi to get in line behind the other two customers. When they opened at 4 PM we secured our favorite table for 4 to the left of the entrance. We were happy that Mike from his former Catch 54 served our table. We first met Mike here at Bluecoast back in 2021. Also Kelly from her former Off The Hook also stopped by to say hello. We enjoyed our dozen Chunu Virginia oysters. I also enjoyed my usual tuna poke for $15 with white rice, carrots, pineapple and jalapeno peppers. I ended my meal with a pineapple martini for $8. We returned here for our second visit with our friends. Since there were five of us we sat in their second booth on the right. Again Mike stopped by to say hello. I started with my margarita with salted rim for $9. Kelly delivered our dozen of the Chunu Virginia oysters for $12 to also say hello. I also enjoyed my two pineapple martinis for $8 each. I also enjoyed my tuna and salmon poke for $16. We also shared a bottle of Trefethen chardonnay for $58 with the Friday 1/2 price wine reduced down to $29. My total bill was reduced down from $143 to $114. Lindsay S. served us very well as usual. We returned for our third visit on Friday. We sat at the table to the left of the entrance. Kelly and Mike stopped by to say hello. I started with my margarita for $8 and ended with my pineapple martini also for $8. Again, I enjoyed my dozen Chunu Virginia oysters and my poke. Alexis D. served us very well. Customer service and friendship are most important. We will continue to return here for the off season happy hour.
