    Lobster dinner
    Susan M.

Very good service, excellent food. Our party of 9 sampled just about everything : lobster, salmon, cod, fish tacos, grilled shrimp, flounder, halibut and two kids' dinners (hot dog and chicken tenders). Really nice appetizers as well - fresh oysters and mussels, and coconut shrimp. We sat upstairs - never knew there was an upper level!

    That's all folks!

Our server was great, super friendly. Unfortunately our $25 Fish and Chips were super disappointing. The smallest piece of fish and we are right next to the ocean. We are from New England and this is a disgrace to Fish & Chips. We were offered a bigger piece, to be fair.. but we said no because we were hungry and it wasn't the waitresses fault. We should have been given a decent sized piece to begin with. Kind of a tourist trap. The picture looked a lot bigger and better on the website.

It was Cashew Crusted Alaskan Cod, Pan Seared Halibut & Herb Crusted Flounder on Seafood Rigatoni in Pesto.

Cousins and I came for seafood. Shared a Coconut Shrimp appetizer and a Roasted Street Corn Lobster Bisque. Entrees were Fresh Cashew Crusted Alaskan Cod on potato mashers with sautéed spinach. Herb Crusted Flounder on Rigatoni and Pesto sauce. And Pan Seared Halibut over Seafood Risotto. Side of garlic bread. A Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Dogfish Head Citrus. Everything was outstanding including our Server Darby. I enjoyed the food so much I want to go back soon. The only thing I can say about my photo is it shows how much we enjoyed our entrees. Lol

Dinner was very good the meal came out extra hot. The quality of seafood was very good. Service was wonderful. The tables and dining area were very clean.

I will summarize my four most recent happy hour off season visits. We were first here at the bar with my six family and friends. Well finally the off season happy hour half price dinner entrees have finally returned here starting around mid October with pretty much the same entrees and menu as last year. They subsequently updated the half price entrees in early November. All items have pretty much returned here except for some new entrees. The good news is that at least two new half price happy hour dinner entrees were added including the surf and turf with espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon with two skewered shrimps, yukon mash, tomato garnash with blue cheese in the middle of the tomato for $40 or half price for only $20. I never had espresso encrusted filet mignon, therefore I ordered and enjoyed mine medium rare. I could barely taste the encrusted espresso. I ended my dinner with my favorite Fiddlehead's draft honey porter for $6. My total bill was $111 with half price discount of $36.50 so my final bill was $77. On my second return I enjoyed my ahi tuna rice bowl with broccoli, ginger fried house rice, sprouts and ginger vinaigrette for $36 or half price for $18. My total bill was $72 excluding gratuity. On my third return I again enjoyed the espresso encrusted 4 ounce demi filet mignon, which I had ordered medium rare, but was over cooked to medium. I did not complain about returning my filet for a replacement, however I did show it to bartender Dennis. Next time I will order my filet rare. On my fourth return I enjoyed my usual cosmos and my ahi tuna rice bowl which was always properly cooked ahi style. Bartender Dennis always remembers I prefer a little extra spice, without me even asking for my Sriracha. Dennis recommended both of the above entrees. See my most recent pic of the new menu. Chef Cowan waved to me at the bar. Bartender Dennis served us very well supported by our usual excellent recommendations and conversations. Chandra and Cameron also said hello. The staff here are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On Black Friday I purchased another $1k in gift cards for the off season from Off The Hook and Hooked in OC. Needless to say we will continue to return here for happy hour to spend our $1k.

It was a pretty good atmosphere and there was live music outside at 6pm or so. We were inside and could still hear it some. The food is all over the place and more sports bar than Mexican restaurant. I ordered fajitas triple (steak, chicken, and shrimp. The platter was on a sizzling dish. The portion of meat was acceptable but as the old lady from the old Wendy's commercial said "Where's the Veggies". Im not sure if they were running low or what but honestly it was hard to find the onion or peppers. And astonishing but no rice and beans. So for the $25 or so price it was too small for all the wrong reasons. The wife wanted chicken casadilla. But it had buffalo sauce. We had a nice waiter from Romania but not sure why he didn't recommend no sauce but she wound up with shrimp & crab. Honestly I tried them and it was just weird. They were topped by some kind of yum yum type sauce.

We had a very nice experience: it's adorable inside, with a very inviting interior and strings of lights all around. We ordered margaritas and were told it was happy hour pricing, so they were $7 instead of $9. Tasty! The server brought complimentary chips and salsa - you could tell everything was fresh/homemade. For a Mexican restaurant, there are a surprising number of non-Mexican items on the menu. We both had items labeled "new" on the menu: tuna nachos and a Cajun grilled chicken sandwich served with homemade potato chips. Everything was delicious! The nachos were made with fried wontons versus corn chips - a clever decision. I forget all the toppings on my chicken sandwich, but it was all delicious. Service was quick and efficient too - we'll definitely return!

We had each of the three St. Patrick's Day offerings (Bangers and Mash, Corned Beef and Cabbage, as well as Fish and Chips) and everyone raved about their meal. Some folks took leftovers home because the serving size was more than enough to eat at one setting. There were 122 people in attendance and the staff worked tirelessly to serve the meals as quickly as possible with the 4 servers that were on duty. In fact, I was seated at the very last table to be served, and we used the wait time to socialize with our tablemates. The food arrived piping hot and was well worth the wait. Speaking with management after the luncheon, we discussed how we wished we could get everyone served a little faster. They agreed. There is good news and bad news about it. The bad news - the restaurant kitchen does not have food warmers, like banquet facilities, so they cannot pre prep hot food. The good news - food is coming out "hot off the grill". Know that the servers will rotate where they start serving each month so that the same table will not be the last one served. All attendees will be served their meal somewhere between 12 and 1. The sound system does have room for improvement, but it is a "wired" system and the wires cannot be placed across the floor to reach the middle of the room (tripping hazard). One contributing factor in people having a difficult time hearing is the number of audience members talking throughout the presentation. Perhaps a greater level of respect shown to the speakers would be helpful. Hockers staff has worked with the AARP organizers making changes as needed. I personally am grateful to the Hockers family for giving us the opportunity to accommodate a much larger audience than in our previous venue. I am looking forward to the upcoming luncheon/meetings and hope that the members exercise a little more patience.

I also enjoyed my usual tuna poke for $15 with white rice, carrots, pineapple and jalapeno peppers. I ended my meal with a pineapple martini for $8. We returned here for our second visit with our friends. Since there were five of us we sat in their second booth on the right. Again Mike stopped by to say hello. I started with my margarita with salted rim for $9. Kelly delivered our dozen of the Chunu Virginia oysters for $12 to also say hello. I also enjoyed my two pineapple martinis for $8 each. I also enjoyed my tuna and salmon poke for $16. We also shared a bottle of Trefethen chardonnay for $58 with the Friday 1/2 price wine reduced down to $29. My total bill was reduced down from $143 to $114. Lindsay S. served us very well as usual. We returned for our third visit on Friday. We sat at the table to the left of the entrance. My brother knew he wanted to try the lobster roll, but my dad asked what they recommended. The guy, who we found out later to be the owner, went through each menu item, telling us how they get the ingredients and how everything is prepared. All the seafood is brought in fresh and it is Upscale that freezes it themselves, only to thaw the day of preparation. Some of their sauces, like the tartar sauce and remoulade sauce, are homemade. The owner seemed very passionate about his business and seemed to value quality of ingredients immensely. In addition to the lobster roll we also ordered the crab cake sandwich, fried shrimp, and french fries. The order was a little pricey, but for quality seafood that is expected. We did have to wait about fifteen minutes for the food to be ready, as they were making the food right then. While I only tried a piece of the lobster roll this day, my dad and brother were instantly impressed. The lobster roll was perfectly buttered and grilled, with fresh lobster and bread. My dad said it may have been the best crab cake sandwich he has ever had. The crab cake was all jumbo lump crab and perfectly crispy on the outside. They also loved the fried shrimp and french fries. My brother always says you know it's a good french fry if it does not need ketchup and he did not need ketchup for these fries. Overall, Upscale seems to be an awesome addition to the Bethany Beach scene and is a must try for all seafood lovers. Even the non-seafood lovers may want to try it out too!
