Food was fine, but their online system to get a copy of a receipt is horrendous. It enrolls you in a loyalty program and doesn't send the receipt at all. Youre forced to hunt through some godawful third party website to find a form, and they still just can't get you your receipt. It's just a Kafka-esque wilderness of mirrors where they capture more and more data, no doubt to sell to others and pester you with ads. Just be the ok-ish restaurant you are and don't engage in all this ridiculous jackassery to offload customer service cost and monetize customer data. Never freaking again. read more

SERVICE here is the real star of the show! We came on a Saturday around lunchtime, and it wasn't crowded. Two young guys were chatting up the carver about the meats, and naturally, we joined in on the questioning. Well, this carver must've been in a generous mood because he ended up giving all of us about four meat samples each--LOVE that! We finally settled on the Colonel Sandwich, which is basically a meat-lover's fever dream: bacon, brisket, jalapeño sauce, onion rings... you name it, it's in there. Honestly, it was so loaded that you couldn't taste anything specifically, so that's on me for ordering a meat mountain. We also grabbed some brisket burnt ends. There were about six pieces, and one was a little dry and chewy, but overall, pretty good. Now, let's talk fries. I normally wouldn't order fries at a BBQ joint (I read somewhere that fries are on the "do not order" list for BBQ), but the Yelp photos looked too good to pass up. And let me tell you, those hand-cut beauties did NOT disappoint! We got them well done, and they were OUTSTANDING--crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, just like fry heaven. And whatever you do, save room for dessert because this place absolutely shines in the sweets department. They've got about 10 different freshly baked cookies, cakes, and pies to choose from. We took a bread pudding to go with caramel sauce, and when we heated it up later that evening--chef's kiss--it was exquisite. I decided to order the 2-meat plate with Prime Brisket and Pork Spare Ribs to share with my friend. For sides, we chose the House Fries and Apple Cider Coleslaw. The meats were tender and perfectly seasoned. The sweet and tangy sauces complemented them well. However, the house fries were a bit inconsistent--some were crispy, while others were still soggy. The coleslaw was not really our cup of tea, as we were expecting a creamier consistency but got wet and sour cabbage instead. Ambiance and restaurants is every new and great concept. Servers were also very nice. The food on the other hand was so disappointing. Not worth it all. The food was all cold when we're only ones there on Monday night. A lot the sides are pretty bland when it came to veggies. The wagyu brisket was so dry. The desserts were all in the open which isn't issue until I see all the flies flying over it. Then went to grab a fresh lemon by utensils. Kid you not 20 fruit flies sprang up when I tried to get one. Everything you have to grab yourself ordering food is own area, grabbing drinks, grabbing utensil, then throwing away and putting utensil in a bucket for them. I'm not sure where to start or what to say. This is an establishment started by a chef/operator with some investor capital. The ambiance in both locations is about what you'd expect in a 5'ish year old buildout (Dallas) and 3'ish remodel (Addison). The service in both locations is friendly and open to questions and back-and-forth chatter...both welcome attributes. Here's the rub ... I can't get my arms/tastebuds around the food. The desserts are to die for. The bourbon selections at the bar(s) are outstanding. However, and this is my opinion only, the rest of the selections have an expectation v price v flavor disconnect. We've dined 2-3 times at each location and have yet to be "floored" given the publicity and hype. We also attended 2 separate celebration/tasting functions at the Greenville location and literally felt like we were crashing someone else's private party as the cliques, investors, staff, etc. were all buddy-buddy and we were ignored like the ugly girl in the corner...despite sitting at a long table with a group of investors high-fiving each other rather than engaging other non-clique diners. SO...overall, again my opinion only, in the realm of relative newcomers to the Dallas BBQ scene...I can do better when the "cover charge" for 2 is $50+ ... (I dropped $40 for two to-go sandwiches on a Sat and the protein couldn't be chewed). BTW--dump that ciabatta bread/roll and go with something more traditional in the theme of a TX roadside BBQ shack. I encourage you to give it a try and form your own opinion. read more

Probably the best turkey breast I've ever had. I normally don't like turkey, but the smoked turkey here was so flavorful and tender and moist. We got three meat plat (ribs, turkey and brisket) the ribs were fall of the bones and the brisket was juicy. We also got smoked wings, it was pretty good. Great Texas BBQ here, you know I'll be coming back here again. Came here for some Texas barbecue and it certainly delivered. I ended up ordering a two-meat plate with the Wagyu brisket and half chicken along with two sides that were the mac & cheese and the seasonal veggies. Everything was delicious and I certainly enjoyed trying both of their signature barbecue sauces With my BBQ meats. What's also nice is that the sides do not overpower the meat and everything was very well balanced, and complemented each other. I am typically not a fan of brisket, but this waygu brisket certainly changed my mind, as it was savory and melted in your mouth, all along with a hint of the smoked-ness you can taste in the cooked meats, (which the smokey-goodness were never overwhelming). As for proportions, they do give quite a serving size, which I could barely even get through my entire meal. Also, some of my friends had ordered a baked potato here which was massive and looked delicious. I'm sure to try this the next time I come here. I did wish I had room for desserts because all baked looked delicious. What a dining experience today! The restaurant is beautiful inside and out. The layout is well designed. The wall posted menu is full of delicious choices. Look for " The Line Starts Here " neon sign to go through the serving line. I was warmly greeted by the owner at the meat station. Mr. Michael Lane , Managing Partner, described the choices and personally cut and stacked my chopped beef sandwich. Moving down the line is a feast for the eyes. Disappointing BBQ in the Heart of Texas This was a first for me in Texas: bland brisket. Dry, tough, and completely lacking flavor -- it reminded me more of something you'd find at a sad airport food court than a proper Texas smokehouse. Maybe it would pass in New York City as someone's first attempt at brisket, but here, it just doesn't cut it. Unfortunately, the mediocrity didn't stop there. The turkey? Bland. Sausage? Bland. Burnt ends? Somehow also bland. Not one meat had any depth or standout seasoning. For a place that prides itself on BBQ, the flavor profile was shockingly flat. Side dishes were no redemption either. The mac and cheese was borderline inedible -- overwhelmed by what I think was blue cheese, though whatever it was completely overpowered the dish with a funky, off-putting smell and taste. In a state overflowing with world-class BBQ, OAK'd simply doesn't deliver. It misses the mark on everything that makes Texas BBQ iconic: bold smoke, tender meat, and rich flavor.
