Love BBQ and I've passed through Addison many times without noticing this place. Glad I stopped for lunch today. Staff was warm and super friendly, greatly adding to my experience. I had a brisket sandwich, side of steak fries, Texas chocolate cookie and drink. Good BBQ is expensive these days so expect to pay $25 or so but this was so worth it! Great brisket (I asked for lean), steak fries you've gotta try (extra seasoning made them different than any I've ever had before), and the whole dessert section was top notch (Many choices - I could have tried them all!). Visited this place since we were at a conference at the nearby Marriott. It's good and I will return if in area. Ambiance: This is a large restaurant and is easy to seat large groups. There is also a nice bar area with TVs. Parking is also easy in their lot. Service: I sat in the bar area and service was hit and miss. Perhaps it was a slow Sunday night and the bartender wasn't too concerned about customers during a football game. It took me awhile to grab her attention to receive my check. The service was much friendlier in the ordering line. All of the meat preps were working hard and the cashier gave us descriptions of the desserts. Food: Since this was Texas bbq, I focused on brisket. Their slices were tender and flavorful. Juicy and bite-through, just how brisket should be. Their burnt ends looked good, but were dry and a tad tough. It also needed some sauce. The turkey was also very good. They slice the turkey breast beautifully and it was juicy. The pork rib was average since it had okay flavor, but meat was a little tough. Their happy hour wings and beer special is a good price for $10. Arrived just before the Lunch rush started. Super lucky cause I can see this as being a local favorite and the line was definitely much larger as we ate our meals. Went with THE GOVERNOR sandwich (minus the aioli sauce), if that's what you chose to call it because there was no way I was eating this as a hand-held sandwich. (Grab a set of silverware) [CHOPPED BRISKET, CANDIED BACON, SAUTÉED CHILIES, ONION RING NEST, CREOLE AIOLI] The brisket was cooked to perfection, super juicy & moist. The buns were mint, the whole things was an experience. My co-patriot went for the two meats platter and had the Turkey Breast as one of his choices. BBQ Turkey is IMO, a great indicator of how good the BBQ overall is. Too easy to dry out or undercook but they hit it out of the park. Visited for the first time on a busy Saturday evening on the recommendation of a friend. The place has a good vibe, and the happy hour was pleasant. Staff is friendly but that's where the good vibes end. If coming for happy hour and appetizers then this place is cool. However, if coming for dinner I can't recommend based on value and I tried the brisket, ribs, potato salad and beans. The meat portions are small, and the food is cold. The ribs have very little meat. The bbq sauce is not very good. The two meat plate consisted of 2 ribs and 2 slices of brisket. I consider that portion an appetizer, but for $24 including the sides, it is a hard pass. I believe this place was good before it became so busy. I'm sure when it was a little joint it was tasty, but after becoming so busy, the quality has slipped. Once again, the employees were nice, and the vibe was good. Turn down the blaring country music. The, I presume manager, was a really nice guy that walked around making sure that everyone was doing ok. He was in high spirits and honestly just spreading cheer. We got a two meat plate with two sides. Jalapeño sausage, brisket, beans, and Brussel sprouts. We got a size of the orzo pasta. Our baby loved the pasta and it was a generous serving. The meats were so tender and full of flavor!! The beans were legit!! They were actually proper beans for once. If you don't like it then smother them in bbq sauce but also you're wrong. The only thing was the Brussels sprouts could have been a little more cooked and I don't need the extra rando veggies added in. I didn't order the mixed veg side so don't taint my bsprouts! The cheddar jalapeño sausage was a must-have. Maybe even better than Terry Blacks!! The beef was good but nothing I haven't had before. Great for just a standard BBQ but not enough to stand out in a place like Dallas! The sides were phenomenal- especially the potato salad! I found them on yelp and was super excited to check them out , However the food was absolutely terrible, brisket dry and the other half a slab of fat. The ribs were over smoked and had no flavor. Collard greens needed salt and pepper and the Mac and cheese was gritty as if the sauce wasn't properly made. The bbq sauce was straight vinegar, I had really high hopes but ended up throwing the entire plate in the trash. You have to throw your own plate in the trash as there have 3 signs per table reminding you to. When you walk inside for the first time it can be a little confusing. At least for me it was! But take a look around, there is a sign pointing you where to go. At the entrance to the line, there is a menu on the wall with all of the options of meats you can choose from. And honestly the prices are so good, because we got some hefty portions for around $50-$60 in total, compared to Terry Black's where the same portions cost me $120+!!! The guys on the line were super nice and friendly, chatting us up and asking if we'd been there before. They offered us samples of any sides we'd like to try, and I'm glad they did because this definitely changed what sides I chose. Please please please do not sleep on these brussel sprouts, they are incredddddible. An issue for me was that the pickles look good, but they're bread and butter pickles and I hate those so much. The meats are juicy and tender, have a nice smokiness, they have the perfect fattiness, ribs were falling off the bones. The guys also told me that if I pumped out a google review on the spot, I'd get a free cookie. I don't like the pressure because I want to eat my food and edit my pictures before giving my verdict. Probably a 3.5. I've seen their Dallas proper location but never been. Hard to stand out in a city with other well known BBQ places. The menu is vast. They have a "Mexicue" section (something like that) on the menu which is Mexican and BBQ combined; a lot of those items were sold out though. Opted for the 2 meat plate which comes with 2 sides ($22.99). Meats are 1/4 lb each. If you wanted less food, you're better of going a la carte. The plate was BIG and could be split into 2 meals / between 2 people. Got the wagyu brisket for both of my meats. Nowhere on the menu does it say they charge an extra $2 for this "premium" cut. So I got charged extra $4 since I chose it for both of my meats. Think charging extra makes sense but they should make it clear. The wagyu was fatty. Which I guess is to be expected... I enjoyed it even without any sauce. They had a spicy and non spicy sauce to choose from. They have a variety of pickles, onions etc also, which I appreciated. It does not come with any bread. Got the Brussel sprouts and cole slaw. Did not like either of them. I wish I read reviews because somebody mentioned the Brussel sprouts are boiled vs the standard crispy that most restaurants do... The cole slaw (vinegar based) lacked flavor. It was weird because there was only a little left and they put the slaw in a bowl and mixed it around? Which I assume was the dressing?? But I didn't really see much liquid. Disappointing sides!!! Other people who got the same thing agreed with me. They liked the mac and cheese though. I really wish I could give a positive review about Oak'd BBQ. I can say that the people were very nice, very friendly and helpful. But sadly that is where it stops. When we walked into the serving line, the first thing I noticed was how unappealing their menu board was. It wasn't bold and colorful but drab and plain. And it was hard to see in places. Then I looked over where the meat was. My first thought was that it didn't look that good. I almost called my son over to have him look so we could walk right out the door, but I didn't. The meat was dry looking and had the appearance of not being freshly cooked. Now the meat that the server gave me was taken from a piece that looked better, but sadly it was dry and not very flavorful. All the sides and condiments looked old, and they weren't very tasty. Everything just looked like it had all been sitting out for quite a while. The dessert selection was quite extensive. But here is where they get you. Scan the QR code and you get a free cookie! But wait! I haven't even TASTED my food yet! Not fair. And the serving area looked like it could use a good cleaning! When we pulled in the parking lot, I noticed that there were quite a few cars there. But when I went inside, I realized the bar was packed and they were all there for happy hour! So if you are looking for a place to meet friends for a drink, by all means, go there. But if you are looking for good BBQ, keep looking. read more

For starters, this place is so spacious. I love that they have a game room for kids and adults to play multiple different games. They have multiple different specialty drinks. I really liked the electric lemonade. When you walk in, you order your food through a "cafeteria line". We tried all the meats but my favorite was the burnt ends and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Their chicken is also really good and moist. I'm not a big fan of Brussel sprouts but they have THE best Brussel sprouts I've tasted. Their baked beans and Mac n cheese are also delicious. I really wanted to like this place! The layout and decor is great and the staff was very welcoming. Unfortunately, all of the actual BBQ items underwhelmed. The biggest challenge is that all of the items served were not hot at all. On top of being cold the brisket also had minimal flavor and no developed bark. I always drive by this place, and it always looks busy. I stop by before the evening rush hour to grab dinner. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. It was my first time here. She told use how to order and directed us to the line. Went up to the line and the kids wanted a cheeseburger and fries. There is a form that you fill out before going into the line to hand to the cooks but there was no form to fill out. It wasn't busy so I placed an order with the cook. Great burgers. Kids approved. Now the main review. BBQ. I had high expectation going in and left disappointed that I spent $$$ on subpar BBQ. I had the 3 meat plate with brisket, jalapeno cheese sausage and pork ribs. All of them were room temp, even though they pulled the meats from the warmer. The brisket is good and so were the pork ribs, just not fall off the ribs good. The sausage just had that texture where the cheese just firms up. My partner orders the 2 meat plate and had the same experience. Just room temp meats. The garlic sausage is much better than the jalapeno cheese sausage. Maybe I didn't come at the right time. It was at 5pm but I left disappointed. Service is great tho. The gentleman slicing the meat was also great, very accommodating. The sides were disappointing, or at least off tonight. The greens needed more seasoning (not salt), the cauliflower and seasoned veggies were also bland. Beans were just ok. Maybe I just expected traditional bbq sides, I.e. fried okra, rolls, etc. What was most disappointing was the delay on the ribs. We were told it'd be 3 min when we ordered but didn't receive them until 1/2 through our meal, at least 15 min. And we had to ask 2x for them to be brought to us. Maybe the kitchen was backed up? To start, I munched on the 'nana puddin' - an original of my hometown Paul's Valley, Oklahoma. They did it right. Our second time to the Dallas area and first time ever for Texas BBQ. This place did not disappoint. The guys were really helpful with suggestions and giving you every kind of sauce. Everything was amazing. The brisket was so juicy and smoky. I love the tangy sauce and my husband liked the sweet. We also tried the wings. I love how they fry them a little and put a crunch in them. They don't need sauce but they gave a really nice not too hot Buffalo that I mixed with ranch. We had the broccoli and the cauliflower side dishes since I was saving my carbs for the bread pudding. I really liked the staff. They were all super friendly and great. The desserts were great, too, but the bbq was dry and not good, and the sides were just ok. Since this place is definitely on the pricier side for BBQ, I was expecting a better quality of meats. Two people: we each had a brisket sandwich, one side each, two teas and we shared a dessert. I think it was in the $65 range. The restaurant is cute and nicely decorated, but definitely some growing pains until they get the bbq situation worked out. read more

The meat selection are excellent. We love the Wagu brisket so much because it's so moist and delicious. The pork rib has good taste and juicy but need a little bark and smoky flavor. Turkey is juicy and tender and smoked just right. I'm happy they are generous about pickles, onions and bread compared to Cattleleak only give small pack pickles like 4 pieces picked cucumbers. The sides like coleslaw and Cauliflower are very plain and under seasoned. We had to add more bbq sauce to season the coleslaw to bring out the vinegary flavor. I'm definitely going back for more Wagu brisket and give other sides a try. read more

I'm sad to say I had the contrary experience than most. As my first time being there I was excited. I even looked at the menu before ordering to be prepared and hep move the line quickly. The meat man greeted me with a cold "what would you like" which was off putting, as if he hated his job almost. I asked for the 3 meat plate and it was loud in there so he said he couldn't hear me and I spoke up and asked for the 3 meat plate with double brisket and sausage. I also asked for ribs on the side. He then said that he couldn't do the ribs because it was a 3 meat plate, I figured he couldn't hear me again so I re-confirmed I wanted the rib. I was still thrown off by the initial experience as a first time guest, when he passed me along to the sides man I mentioned to him I wanted the Mac and greens and he said something back but then I couldn't hear him. Then I went on to the lady who does the peppers and pickles etc. and she spilled the bbq sauce on the dish knocking most of it out of the dish she poured it in, making the tray very messy and then made eye contact and asked if I wanted anything else. I moved on to the cashier lady and asked for a desert and that was fine. By the time she rung me up with the entire experience I had in the line alone, I failed to realize the meat man did not give me a 3 meat plate with double brisket but a 2 meat plate with single brisket. I paid defeated as a first timer and still tipped but with the experience and the food not being delectable, I can pass on coming here again. I feel though had I had a better experience, I would have enjoyed the food a little more. Brisket was good, sausage was good, Mac was better than good, and greens were ok. Lemonade was nothing fancy. Went here with gf, she orders a burger. They're supposed to bring it to my table, like 30 minutes go by I go to check if it's done or what. They tell me 'oh we didn't charge you for the burger so we didn't make it' . So they didn't come tell us anything they were just never going to bring my girlfriend any food I guess hahaha . So my food is cold as heck and she just doesn't get to eat for 30 minutes . And the lady doesn't even say sorry she just says 'would you like to pay for it and have us make it?
