I live out of state and wanted to send a cake to a group visiting the area for the weekend. I contacted this business by phone to confirm there would be no problem placing an order for future delivery. They assured me it wouldn't and they make deliveries frequently. I placed the order on Wednesday to be delivered Saturday am. Come Saturday morning I received an email saying my order could not be completed and had been canceled. We coordinated with them over email and sent a couple picture options for baptism cakes they replied with a quote for how much it would be to recreate each. I loved the transparency up front and responsiveness. We choose a 2-tier design for the cake we liked and they sent their list of flavors. We selected those and agreed upon a pick up time and paid over the phone. My MIL picked up the cake and when I saw it later it, it exactly matched what we agreed upon via email! This review consists of nothing but facts. For the first time, in my many reviews, I am omitting my opinions and personal feelings concerning this incident. Facts: I have been using this place for many years for my "special occasion cakes". They do, in fact, have DELICIOUS CAKES! Pink Champagne is my beloved! My twin sister and I purchased a retirement cake for our mom in May 2018. No one greeted us or my brother in law upon walking in the door. 30 years of business, I know, I know, you get too busy sometimes. We picked up the cake at closing time on a Friday evening and drove straight to the venue, 4 minutes away. The handsome cake was on display in the front of the party room, when it suddenly completely collapsed. My mom never got to see her cake and the restaurant staff advised that we move the cake to the kitchen so that it be 'served and not seen'. Again, a very yummy cake! The following week, I contacted Delicious Cakes in person; I was then advised to email them, no response....emailed them again a week later...no response. Unfortunately, I had to resolve it on my own, in a different manner. I wasn't looking for problems or handouts, just a resolution...which I did not acquire from Delicious Cakes. I ordered a drip design on a cake that costs an extra $20, but it hardened and cracked which was especially bad during the cake cutting, also it just looked plain messy. I requested my friend and her fiancé's initials be written on the cake and it looked like something a 10 year old could write. It wasn't even properly centered. After seeing a lot of similarly frustrating reviews, I wish I had read yelp before ordering. But it was one of the only places I could find that needed less than a week's notice, which is what warrants the 2nd star. So, we got married in October of 2009 but I never thought to review the people who made my cake until I was talking to an engaged friend of mine, and suggested them. Well, DUH! This is such a hard decision and you want the right people. I had a really great experience with delicious cakes, and I cannot wait to go back on our one year anniversary and get our anniversary piece of cake! Please look at the photos I added to see an example of the exemplary work they do. We had a challenge when it came to our cakes, and most bakeries told us it just wasn't possible. My husband had seen a photo of a cake on some show and we took a terrible iPhone picture of it. We e-mailed the terrible picture to the cake designer and they were able to replicate it perfectly! My husband was so happy, and we were both impressed!! I am also very simple and was so put-off at other cake places where they kept trying to push the frilly fancy cakes on me which I didn't want! I can see that others had bad experiences but my tasting and design process was so smooth and fun! My cake ended up with a "Swiss Dot" technique and ribbon wrapping. To tell you about the flavors... my cake was 4 layers, but only 2 were real. One layer was pink champagne which was sooooo delicious, people ate every slice available. Another layer was the lemon supreme which was so incredible!! Also, I don't know what they do different with their cake but it is so moist. The day of our wedding the cake tasted fresh and moist and looked amazing!! Hubby had the fresh strawberry cake in one layer, and the raspberry liqueur in another. Both were phenomenal (I liked the strawberry better) and our guests constantly came up to us to comment on how good the cake was, and how delicious they were. One very cool thing they do is that instead of making you freeze a slice of cake (which is never good on the anniversary) they actually make you a "topper" with your flavors and your cake design, on your one year anniversary. Unfortunately, the cake was delivered a mere hour before the wedding started by very rude delivery men who unapologetically said "We couldn't help that we had a lot of deliveries to make", then they dropped off the cake without putting the flowers or the cake topper on as promised even though both were left on the cake table for them. The wedding ceremony had to start late because the wedding coordinator had to fumble through putting the flowers and topper on, then to make it worse the cake started to crumble (probably due to being in the hot delivery van too long) so we had to get some tooth picks from the bartender to keep the cake together. I really hate it did not work out with Delicious Cakes for my son's graduation cake. We had a vow renewal cake done in 2019 and we had the best service but I don't think the person that helped us then works there. From my recent experience, I don't think this bakery wanted to service us. Appointments for tastings and designs can only be done M-F from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays start 10am-4pm. Because it would have been hard to get me and my son together during those hours and we are from out of town, they agreed to let up take some taste samples home and let us do the design by email. We discussed picking up the samples Monday, MLK day, and was told to come between 12pm and 1pm because they were closing early. I was also told they did not have the Spice Cake to taste and it would be months before they would have it available. I said maybe we can taste it later and just substitute the tasting with Red Velvet. Then I received an email stating if we wait until Wednesday, the baker can get us a taste of the Spice Cake. So we decided to wait. Wednesday come and I call to see if the cake pickup was ready because I was rushing from out of town and needed to get back to work, which I explained to the person on the phone. I was told they did not have Spice Cake to taste. So what was the point of me waiting. She could not explain why I was told to wait and could see the email stating the Spice cake would be available Wednesday. I still decided to go get the tasting. I showed up and there was no one in the front. The worker was in the back outside the kitchen with a guy and her phone was at the front with a movie playing. When she came, I told her my name and she told me it would be 5-10 minutes. I re-explained I was in a rush and thought it would be ready, and she said she needed to put it together. This was 45 minutes after our phone conversation. There was no one in bakery and she could not explain why it was not already put together. So we waited. After she came back, she said she wanted to talk about the design. I explained again I was in a rush to get back to work, and we also could not fit an appointment in to their times. They were great and we enjoyed every moment of it. I told him the conversation I had with the person who took my order. They said I didn't leave credit card info to confirm my order which I said I offered but was told otherwise. They offered to process the order immediately and can be ready in 3 hours. I told my husband to leave and they lost our business. This was the day before our wedding. While my fiancee was there, the person helping him let him know that she did have the description of the cake I wanted so my fiancee asked, "if she had called back to let you know EXACTLY what she wanted on the cake, why would you make sure that is not done? If we could give no stars we would. We thought we would have had a pleasant experience from the initial appointment we had with one of the ladies at the cake tasting. We ordered three flavors for our wedding which took place on Saturday, October 9th. The top tier was supposed to be spice, the middle tier was supposed to be strawberry and the bottom tier which was the biggest tier to feed over 70 ppl was supposed to be pink champagne. The bottom tier was vanilla with buttercream filling and the top and middle were strawberry. NOT WHAT WE ASKED FOR! We were already annoyed at the unprofessionalism of the owner who dropped the cake off 1.5 hours early at 12:30pm vs. the 2pm - 4pm drop off time we agreed upon. We weren't supposed to have access to the venue until 1pm however, the venue was gracious enough to let us have access before then so the owner popping up early with not even a phone call to let us know he would be dropping the cake off early was frustrating to say the least. Our ceremony wasn't set to begin until 6pm so a cake sitting there in the reception space at 12:30pm was a problem for us. Also, the owner and I agreed that I would purchase the roses for him to place on the cake so popping up early unexpectedly threw me off as the bride trying to prep for my perfect day. One of my bridesmaids were already en route to getting the roses and hadn't made it back yet because we weren't expecting him until at least 2pm. When I told him we weren't expecting him this early he said "oh well, I had a change of plans" I replied "ok...it would've been nice if you called to ask me if it would be ok" the whole time I'm talking to his back. He didn't even have the decency to look at me. He proceeded to take the cake out of the trunk and walk it inside, placed it on the table and walked out. As you can imagine, when we cut the bottom tier of the cake during the cake cutting portion of the reception, to our surprise we saw vanilla cake when we should have been looking at pink cake. I wanted to burst into tears because at this point I was frustrated especially since this cake was purchased way in advance since April and I also went into the store at least 3 weeks before our wedding to make sure everything was all set. To have them still mess up our cake was disappointing and unacceptable. The owner was only willing to reimburse us $100 of the almost $800 cake we purchased. I told him that isn't acceptable because if it was the top tier or even the middle, we might let it go, but the bottom tier which was supposed to feed the largest portion of our wedding party was vanilla and not pink champagne, we can't let that go. Especially since we have more than 75% of that bottom layer left. No one hardly touched it. The slices that were cut off and placed on the table ended up being tossed and we saved the rest of the cake. We took a picture and video and sent it to him and was willing to bring it to the store to show him but he wasn't agreeable to that. He blamed the mistake on Covid of course and said "this Covid has everyone wonky and it's human error." We are truly disappointed at this whole situation but even more disappointed that the owner's unprofessionalism and nonchalant attitude will prevent us from using this company ever again and anyone that we come in contact with that is looking to hire a cake company, we will make sure to let them know not to use this business because they only want your money and don't care about customer satisfaction. This is bad business and unethical behavior. I understand that ppl. make mistakes all the time however, it's what you do with those mistakes and how you rectify them is what's important. read more
