We dined in when there was a price fixed menu, which I typically don't love, but I actually enjoyed this one! The lobster pasta and short rib totally stole the show, but everything was pretty tasty. Service was prompt. Fairly steep prices and small portions, but nice spot for a special occasion.

Incredible food, the vibe and the service were all en-pointe. I loved the carpaccio and the pasta we shared. We ate too fast for pictures. The wine was excellent too. Exquisite.

    Nonna's Sunday Ragout

Single diner review. I visited Oak at Fourteenth on a recent trip to Boulder (11/2/24). It came highly recommended from locals as well as the Michelin guide, but for me it was just meh. I got the Crispy Arancini to start and asked my server specifically if this was a good appetizer for one person (as the menu lists "small and shared"). I was told yes, and the dish was very large. It was good, but the risotto wasn't balanced by the blue cheese and spiced honey. It just tasted like fried rice balls. For my entree I ordered the Nonna's Sunday Ragout and it was tasty, but nothing stood out on the plate (except for an exceedingly large amount of garnish). I was in on a busy Saturday evening and the place was packed. I arrived at my reservation time and had to wait. Service was rushed and impersonal. I might have ordered dessert, but no one asked. Attire was mostly casual and the volume was loud. Overall, I'd say Oak at Fourteeth is a decent restaurant for an evening out, but it's nothing to write home about.

Charred focaccia (so sad!) and browned butter roasted sunchokes

Lovely service from the hostess and server. Sat at the "chef's table/bar" and asked the gentleman behind the counter what his favorite dish they offered. "Meatballs." That's it. That's the only interaction I had with him the entire time. Not exactly the experience I was hoping for when I selected the chef's table, but whatever. Nice little place with a cozy dining room, bar, chef's table/bar plus a back room, which was hosting a private party during my visit. The hamachi crudo aguachile was quite delicious. I should have gone with my other choice, which was the crispy arancini with blue cheese and spicy honey. (Sounds yummy, right?) But I went with the server's suggestion of the special roasted sunchokes and just really didn't like them. I also asked for a slice of their focaccia (who can resist the squishy softness of some good focaccia?!) but I was sorely disappointed when it came out oven roasted and rock hard. Wait. What? Thankfully, the removed the $5 charge for the single piece of bread from my tab when I mentioned not loving it, and the server did apologize and said she should have asked if I wanted it heated. Overall, a bit of a swing and a miss for me. I think it could have been a better experience with a few different choices on my part. I'd certainly give them another try if I find myself in Boulder again.

With a power outage in Boulder Oak at Fourteenth was one of the only restaurants open. They were busy but welcomed us in with smiles. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. The food was delicious with great flavors.

    Kale Salad

I got the apple and kale salad for an appetizer, which was way better than I expected. The cheese and candied nuts were a great addition to the salad and balanced the vinaigrette very well. Also, the whole salad was nicely chopped so it was very easy to eat with spoons! This is one dish I would love to have more often in my normal life - a healthy dish that I'm happy to eat. It's not cheap, but it was very tasty. The meatball dish was alright - everything tasted good and worked together, but the meatball itself was a bit drier / tougher than I would prefer. It was a large enough portion size for me to be quite full after eating as well. The server was very attentive and was on top of refilling my water whenever I needed and checking in on how I was doing. However, the food took a very long time to arrive. I was slowly eating the salad trying to save some to eat as a side to the meatballs, but the main dish didn't come! I eventually finished the salad and then I had to wait a further 20-30 minutes - by this time it had been 45 minutes since I ordered.

    Dried aged ribeye

3.5/5 Sharing my insights on the recent dining experience. The service and ambiance were exemplary, setting a remarkable tone. However, turning attention to the culinary aspect, the scallop, while exhibiting a subtle hint of fishiness, compensated admirably with commendable flavors and a pleasing texture. Conversely, the dried-aged ribeye fell short, lacking in both flavor and succulence. Certain portions displayed a fibrous consistency, indicative of potential overcooking, resulting in a challenging texture. I didn't notice any of the dried age flavor in a dried aged steak. Despite high expectations, the dish failed to meet anticipated standards. Contrarily, the potatoes and caramelized onions proved to be a culinary highlight, showcasing exceptional quality. The lamb, unfortunately, presented a dry texture and a deficiency in flavor. It is worth noting, however, that the carrot stood out as an excellent component of the meal. Overall, the dining experience encompassed a mix of impressions, with notable moments of culinary excellence and areas that left room for improvement.

Came to celebrate my anniversary at Oak 14th Boulder. It's not our first time but truly it's one of the best re in town. Fresh food & service was excellent As an appetizer that ordered beef tartar and chicken liver pate . For dinner my boys ordered halibut fish, my husband ordered chicken with delicious sauce reminded me of Indian food. I just got gnocchi. Photos attached

I consider myself a fair reviewer, and will do my best to provide constructive criticism in hopes the management will take some steps to educate their staff. My husband, daughter and I spent the night at the Boulderado on the evening of 4/23. In the morning -4/24 -while they finished packing I went down to the restaurant first to get a table as we only had about 50 minutes to go back to our room to get our belongings and check out. The restaurant was not very busy, and I thought to myself, "Great!" The hostess picked up 3 menus, then paused, sighed, and said she wanted to give the server a bit more time to catch up, and she asked me to sit on a bench, though there were multiple open tables where I would have gladly waited. My husband and daughter joined me shortly thereafter and the hostess finally seated us, saying there was only one server working. She handed us 2 breakfast menus when there were clearly 3 of us, and my husband had to get up and go to the host stand to get another one. Our server came by after some time and took our order. Oddly, we saw a different server with another table so she was not the only server working after all. She brought my husby's coffee, but no spoon. Well, at least there was a knife because several servers passed our table without even a glance. He was never asked if he wanted a refill, even when he asked for a spoon and his cup was nearly empty. She didn't even give him enough time to ask for more. The kicker was the manager, pony tail guy- standing outside the restaurant in front of the coffee bar with our server and two other young ladies, laughing it up while we were sitting there completely surrounded by no coffee. Not one person asked if they could bring us anything else throughout the entirety of our meal. We literally had to wave them down for the spoon, then nothing. Time was running out so I sent my grumpy husband and frustrated daughter back to the room to get our luggage and said I'd wait for the server to pay. I sat there another 5 minutes holding my credit card up, and even caught the eye of pony tail guy across the bar, but eventually had to just go to the bartender to ask for the bill. I likely could have just walked out without paying and no one would have even noticed! I will say the food was fine. Hubby had the Denver omelette, which he said was flavorful, and our daughter and I each had the Avocado toast which was very nice. Loved the seedy bread. However, the service-or lack thereof- left a bad taste in our mouths. We love the Boulderado and will be back, but unless there is some training of their young waitstaff we aren't likely to return to Spruce. Overall, the restaurant staff seemed completely disinterested in the customers and couldn't be bothered to even offer a friendly smile. For a hotel like the Boulderado with the reputation of a historic gem, we expect much more from their restaurant. We have dined there previously, most recently last year when we had a lovely server, a much more mature and professional lady who was lively and joked with us. It was a very busy morning and she made sure we felt taken care of even when things took longer. We left with a smile on our faces. A few final words of wisdom- 1) even if things are busy, stop by a new table to offer a pleasant word and let customers know someone will be with them shortly, even if it's not your table 2) when you bring coffee be sure you provide a spoon, and at least one check in about a refill 3) stop by to ask if your customers need anything else, and get them their check in a timely manner 4) if you are a manager, don't stand around gabbing with your staff in plain sight of your customers, while said customers are being ignored, and 5) a smile goes a long way. The only smile we got was from the bartender who at one point seemed to be the only person running the show.

I loved the big chandeliers and brick wall. Our server, Skylar, was fantastic. She was personable, welcoming, and enhanced the entire dining experience. I came here for dinner with my husband for a work dinner and our party had seven people total. The Kitchen had a modern and rustic feel to it and the server was quick to show us to our table once our party arrived. We weren't really sure where to start, so a server recommended a few dishes for us to share and everyone ended up picking 1-3 dishes each. We started with a few appetizers: carrots which were slow roasted until they were tender and served on a bed of fluffy, whipped feta, crispy cauliflower which was fried until the exterior was nice and crunchy and served alongside tender carrots and a sweet tamarind chutney. My husband ordered a rigatoni which doused in a fresh bolognese, slices of parmesan, and fragrant herbs. We also had scallops as per the waiter's recommendation, but we were disappointed when only two scallops came out. It would have been nice if the waiter had mentioned that there would only be two scallops served, especially knowing that our party had 7 people. We also had crab fried rice, which I wasn't much of a fan of due to the saltiness of the dish. I ended up ordering the trout, which seemed to be a favorite around the table because of the crispiness of the skin. The sweetness of the candied pine nut crumble contrasted so nicely with the fish and the creaminess of the dashi yogurt paired well with everything. We also ordered a few meat dishes: pork belly which was incredibly fatty and tender and had a sweetness due to the brown sugar curing, espresso-rubbed wagyu skirt steak which ended up being fairly disappointing to everyone (the marbling of the wagyu steak wasn't quite as rich and fatty as I'd expect for a wagyu), and a double-cut pork chop, which was also incredibly tender and delicious. We also ordered a side of fries and everyone was so surprised by how large and thick the fries were, although it wasn't too different from other fries you could order elsewhere. It was a fun and interesting experience eating here, although I'm not sure I'd recommend it as it's rather pricey. It's fun to eat with a large party, though. The service can also be incredibly slow. It took a while for us to get the check or to flag down staff to inquire about the menu. We also had to fill our own water, which was a little disappointing considering the price point of the restaurant.

We walked in without reservations on a Saturday evening and was lucky to have the option of dining inside or out. We were seated in the corner, which was fine except for the flies that would get trapped against the window and buzz right around us. There weren't really any other tables in the middle of the restaurant available, so we sucked it up. During the day, it was very brightly lit. But once the sun goes down, it doesn't become very dark. We were given menus by the hostess, but there was a slight delay with water service and what not. Eventually, our waiter did come by to talk a bit more about the menu. (I should note that the table was only set for a party of two and we were a party of four. So, it wasn't until our first dish arrived did they notice that we were missing tableware and plates for the rest of our party.) We mentioned that we'll be sharing a bunch of things, so this is what we ordered: The food came quickly and we did have to make room immediately. I do wish they would have paced it a bit better though. * Beet Salad $15 - They were kind enough to split this in two plates right off the get go. Since it's called a Beet Salad, I did expect a bit more beets than what was given. 3/5 * Roasted Bone Marrow $16 - This was a gorgeous presentation with three bone marrow halves topped with a little red trout roe. The accompanying buttered crusty bread was just wonderful. Although not everyone enjoyed the fig vinegar, I loved this dish! 5/5 * Fried Anchovy Stuffed Olives $12 - My mistake was seeing "fried anchovy", so I was surprised when the olives showed up. It was a lot of salt on salt. It was just okay for us and was the last thing on our table. 2/5 * House Pâté $18 - Another wow dish! The house pate was delicious! The Little Gal pretty much planted that in front of her so she could just focus on that. We did need to order more bread to enjoy all of the pate though. 5/5 * Tartare De Filet Mignon $20 - This was another favorite dish of ours and we ended up ordering another! Loved the red trout roe and crostini that came with it. 5/5 * Moules La Marinire 1 lb $27 - The mussels were so well cleaned and the sauce had so much flavor. It also came with a crusty piece of bread to soak up all that amazing sauce. 5/5 * Peach Cobbler - Before we ordered, I did ask if they had a dessert menu as I wanted to gauge how much food to get based on what desserts were available. Our waiter mentioned they had only two peach cobblers available and could put one on hold for us if we wanted it. And he did rattle off a few of their regular dessert items too. Since this peach cobbler seemed so exclusive, we did ask for that to be on hold for us. When it did arrive, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't sweet enough for my preference. I'm not sure if it was because the peaches weren't sweet or there was a lack of sugar in the cobbler portion. 3/5 * Beignets $12 (to go) - As we were leaving, I asked one of the floor managers if they typically do something for birthdays and he confirmed that they do. He then asked if they had missed something, so I reluctantly told him that they did. The Husband did mention to the two waiters that we were celebrating a birthday, so he had told the staff. I thought that maybe because the peach cobbler took a bit longer, maybe it was forgotten. He apologized profusely and offered to send us with an order of beignets. We were pretty full and had a drive back, but he insisted and said it would only take a moment or so. So we agreed and I waited for it. The order came with 10 little freshly fried doughnut holes, lemon curd, raspberry gelee, and strawberries. We headed to the car and I enjoyed a few there. They were just okay though, nothing really special. 3/5 Overall, there were some really great highs and a couple of lows. I appreciated how the manager tried to make up for the error and did ask where we were seating, so I assume he could address it with the staff. We REALLY loved certain dishes and would return again for those. I would still rate this highly because we did have a generally good experience. 4.5 stars

She loves everything she's had here. It was my first time. I ordered the chicken bowl with yakisoba noodles. It was lukewarm, but that's fine for me. I think they must have microwaved it because it was steamier as you ate down the bowl. The veggies were crisp, the noodles perfect, the chicken was tender. It was spiced at what I'd call a medium level, and quite yummy. My friend then ordered their vegan chocolate pudding, which we shared. Yummy and light. My one big criticism is that they charge $4 for iced tea. I questioned it and the cashier was kind of snippy about it, but the customer behind me approached after I dispensed my tea and said she agreed it's too expensive. The meal was appropriately priced and there is plenty of food, but the drinks? C'mon. It's worth maybe $2.50. They really should reevaluate that. It's the main reason that I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5. The other people who work there were nice and helpful. I didn't grab a fork but the server who brought my bowl cheerfully went and got me a fork and napkin. Very nice. It's obviously popular, it filled up as we sat, with quite a variety of people, from babies to seniors. I might go back, but perhaps next time I'll just get water. I hope they don't charge for that!
