Came here for brunch with some friends. I am from Portland Oregon so perhaps I am spoiled. But I was not impressed. I love Oak Cliff and Nova is just another reason why. The menu is big enough to find something for everyone but not big enough that they can't pull it all off without a hitch. The service was outstanding and our meals were perfection. Steaks prepared precisely as ordered, tender, well seasoned and so good. The chocolate creme brulee was divine! Nova was a great experience - excellent service and tasty food. I had the redeye special while Lynn had the chicken fried pork stack. I liked mine - sweet potato hash with braised pork, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce - good but had a slightly sour taste to it. Lynn's meal was more my style with fried pork that had a nice flavor and a touch of heat. The gravy was nice all over toasted bread. The eggs came out with a bit of runny whites, just not my thing. I really want to like this place more than I do when it comes to their food. The 3 stars goes to the food and here's why... I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. Both times, my boyfriend and I ordered the salmon potato skins, which are great! I don't like salmon so they're different to me but a very intriguing combination. I normally don't touch salmon but these I do like! The beet salad is way too overwhelming, the flavors are too smoky and bold and there is not cutting of those flavors. One bite was enough. Also, the udon noodles are extremely bland. No real asian flavors, more of a chicken noodle soup with udon noodles and really not much flavor at that. The goat cheese gnocchi is very good. The gnocchi itself is wonderfully made and the pork, apple, fennel combo is not as "taste bud exploding" as it sounds. Lastly, the smoked ham sandwich was just not good. Ham cheese and fig are three of my favorite things and for some reason this was just not doing it for me, possibly the sage in the jam. As for the atmosphere, this place is great! There was a band in Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect addition to their lovely cocktails. The staff is great! Very helpful, friendly and welcoming. I will go back to try more of the food just because of how much I like the place itself. read more

Was not expecting this to be as cool as it was. I took the wife here for dinner and what looked like a redone burger joint or something was very retro cool. The design and bar layout was very nice and the service was very good. I especially enjoyed the cocktails. I had a gimlet and while I'm usually not a gin drinker, this was a very good drink. We were hesistant to try some of the dishes but were glad we did. I had the frog legs - fried to perfection and very tasty. The wife had the udon noodles and it was actually very good and authentic. Stopped in for some late night grub with a group of friends, unfortunately the chef packs his bags around midnight. They did offer us pizza that was pre-made at midnight but that didn't seem to kosher with me. We sat down at the table and the waitress was very nice and energetic. She brought us all a glass of water that was infused with cucumber (I don't know why, but cucumber makes everything taste fresh... even water). Decided to order a few drinks off the cocktail menu, I believe it was the Devil's Handshake and Pimm's Cup. They were really good! I agree with Karen P's review with the place. Great food and uneven service but I give 5 stars instead of her overly critical 3. The decor is great, a diner with cute design on the inside that is very refreshing. If i had to criticize anything, it would be the insistence of putting on the standard sports games that seem to be so important in Dallas. Nonetheless, my friend appreciated it. We had a couple of appetizers and entrees and it was great. The meatball sliders are delicious and was very impressed with the quality of cheese used on it. The soft shell crab was also delicious and the accompanying salad dressing was so good, we asked for some more dressing to use as a dip! The entrees were the four meat pizza, the spinach and shrimp pizza, and baby back ribs. The pizza crust was awesome and the pies were all very tasty. The baby back ribs had this great sauce and the potatoes were good. I wasn't a huge fan of the black eyed pea slaw. Desert was a caramel cheesecake that was scarfed down pretty quick. I really enjoyed the service as it was accented by the guy running around doing all the odd jobs. We assumed he was the owner. Then again, he could have been the bartender, or runner or host. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, but not always available. I guess somewhere out there someone's gonna give her more points as she gave em more attention. This place is great! We stopped by for a quick dinner and drinks before a concert at The Kessler. We didn't have much time so we just ordered a pizza, but we were sitting next to the counter and saw everyone else's meal being brought out. All really appetizing. It made me want to come back and try more. The food and drinks all looked/tasted great, but what really struck me about this place was the hospitality. Everyone was nice and attentive. The kind of place where you don't just have one server, but multiple people who aren't afraid to get you another drink or fetch your bill if your main server is busy elsewhere.
