Brand new coffee shop that opened in the heart of Pasadena! The place is called "Nostalgic Cafe", which fits the decor so beautifully. As soon as you step in to the shop, you feel like you're going back in time a bit with nostalgic furniture, details, and the calming music. I could've spent a good hour or two here, just catching up with a friend or peacefully doing work. 5 stars on the ambiance ! I ordered the taro latte and smoked salmon bagel. I really enjoyed the bagel and I feel it was reasonably priced at $14. I would come back for the bagel! Unfortunately the taro latte didn't do it for me. I feel there was too much milk in it and it didn't have much of a taro flavor. Also, I'm a sucker for cute coffee mugs when I enjoy my drink in the shop. It was served to me in a to-go white paper cup, and it didn't have any cute foam design that most other shops now do. I feel that they should serve drinks in a nostalgic-designed mug just to fit their scene and vibe. I think that easy change would've bumped up my rating. So much thought went into the design of this cute little coffee shop. Calming 80s new wave was on the sound system, and the chairs were kind of 80s bed and breakfast too. They have good coffee and sell Porto's pastries. This is a cute "second living room" for a first date or catch up with a friend. It's pretty small. There's seating for 12, or 6 parties of 2. Finally get to try this place and I tried their brown sugar latte and I really really love their roasted flavor so they really deliver on that brown sugar part when I came in it was on Sunday afternoon and there was a long line but not really long, but I had to wait for my drink, but that's not bad at all. Without a doubt, I will not be coming back, and I do not recommend Nostalgic cafe. I came in on a Sunday. There was only one barista behind the bar and about 8 people sitting in the store socializing or studying, but no one standing in line before me. The store wreaked of artificial lavender cleaner like you smell in a bathroom, which was disgusting. I ordered an iced lavender matcha latte with soy. The barista was not warm or welcoming at all, but I figured maybe she was just stressed. It took quite awhile to get my drink because the barista was making food that seemingly had been ordered before I came in, which was fine. I don't mind waiting for a good drink. While waiting another barista in a bad mood seemingly came back from a break and made my drink. The iced matcha was horrendous. It was not properly made and it was filled with thick bitter clumps that got stuck in the straw. They also just use a basic Torani lavender syrup that tastes like chemicals. Gross drink and careless baristas aside, I was absolutely disgusted to see how they treated an elderly houseless individual. When I came into the store she was just sitting at a table with a baked good and a drink keeping to herself and yet they called in Old Pasadena guide team members to escort her out. It was raining outside and she was simply just sitting there quietly with her drink and food. Personally, I think that is a despicable response to another human being, and I will never support this business again. They describe themselves on their own website as having a "cozy ambiance" with "friendly, familiar staff" that welcomes "patrons from all walks of life." Nothing but complete lies. Gross. read more

I stopped in here a few times during my stay at the Courtyard Marriott which is just around the corner. I consider myself to be somewhat of an everything bagel connoisseur and theirs are so delicious. Perfectly toasted but soft in the middle and yummy cream cheese. I also ordered their iced vanilla latte which complimented the bagel. I really enjoyed the decor and all the plants - they live up to their nostalgic name. Service was wonderful too. The baristas were very welcoming to both me and my dog. I love that this place is pet friendly and they have a cute outdoor seating area as well. The cafe itself is very cute and cozy and poses a very comfortable environment for study and work. I have enjoyed the food items I have ordered thus far although they weren't anything to write home about. My only gripe is that some of their food items which could be considered "lunch items" are not available at standard lunch times. I went in and found out the one item I walked to the cafe for was not available at the standard lunch hour I tried to order it. I think this lowers the potential sales they could be making by so heavily restricting the time certain items are available. read more

First time visiting this cafe and absolutely loved it! The vibes truly live up the name. From the decor to the oldies playing on the speakers, this cafe is all about the nostalgia. The cafe is actually pretty spacious inside but does have some outdoor seating. The menu offers plenty of coffee and tea options as well as breakfast and lunch. You can order breakfast bites, bagels, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. I tried the ham and cheese waffle sandwich, the smoked salmon bagel, and the french toast. Overdue review, so hopefully things changed from my experience. I went in shortly after they opened (April 2024) and ordered the ham & cheese waffle and a cafe latte. The latte was good--your average local coffee shop coffee. I took off a couple of stars because it took long (30+ minutes) for the waffle to come out. I thought they forgot my order so I went to check on it, and they said it would be ready shortly. After I got the waffle they told me it took long because they had to re-make the waffle batch, which would have been useful to know in advance so I could pick another food item. It was served with a side salad, which was nice, but overall I found everything to be too salty for my taste. It's a space with nice ambiance so I would be back to do some work with another cup of coffee, but I probably would not order their waffles again. read more

Giving 2 stars because I save 1 stars for truly horrific experiences. This place was not horrible...it was just plain bad. The place is really cute but as soon I reached the counter I noticed the vibe of the server was "off." We asked 1-2 questions and she was not friendly, but I didn't think much of it. Hey, everyone has a bad day sometimes, right? We ordered 2 coffees & 2 bagel sandwiches. It all cost nearly $50 including tip (kinda pricey but I'm used to high LA & SF prices so nothing surprising). They asked "is this for here or to go?" we indicated our intent to dine in the cafe and tipped 20% appropriately. They brought our coffees in paper cups but no milk or sweetener. We were a little surprised it was served in paper cups since we said we intended to dine in house, so we asked if they had ceramic coffee cups and milk and sugar. Keep in mind I thought we were polite, my friend & I are calm, empathetic & try to intentionally be kind always (it's our nature & our professions) - so that is the vibe we were projecting. They came back and rudely said "Next time if you want real cups tell us upfront because most people want paper cups!" Then they proceeded to dump the coffee from the paper cups to mugs in front of us! The bagel sandwiches were fine. Not bad, but literally something I could have made myself (i.e. didn't feel like restaurant/cafe quality). We regret tipping 20% and there will be no "next time." read more

The cutest cafe for a cozy day! Had the rose latte and the truffle bagel. Both were very tasty. The house made cream cheese is truly divine and a must get on your bagel. Classic egg breakfast was ok, but bacon was paper thin and seemed like pre-cooked and reheated. Nutella & banana as well as the ham and cheese waffle were ok, but only ok. I've passed by Nostalgic Cafe countless times, always curious but never quite making it inside. This place is a hidden gem in Old Town Pasadena, and I've been missing out on something special. I decided to try their Breakfast Bagel and Pistachio Bagel, and it was so yummy! The combination of the perfectly toasted bagel, creamy spread, and pistachio topping was simply delicious. Coffee drink is good too. I tried the iced matcha espresso latte with almond milk. They even asked me if I wanted sweetener and how sweet did I want it. That's great service. The drink was great. Also, well worth the price considering it was less than $7 way cheaper than the mainstream competitors, like at Star*****. The place had just opened and it's right next door to their sushi place. I went to Nostalgic for the first time today after stumbling across it on a Google search. I'm so glad I decided to visit! I was meeting a friend that I hadn't seen in months and it was the perfect place to catch up- the atmosphere was wonderful. Cozy, and not overly modern and stale like a lot of other coffee shops. We had our order taken and made by Daniella who was SO lovely. She was super patient while I took forever to make up my mind about what I wanted. I ended up getting an Iced Vanilla Latte and the salmon bagel and both were *delish*. Also, props to Daniella for the playlist she had on because it was top notch and added the perfect touch to the already great ambience. *Note to the coffee connoisseurs and those who like really strong coffee (like me), I found their espresso to be quite mild so I suggest adding a shot or two if you like a really strong taste. I added an extra shot to my latte and thought it was still pretty mild. Totally delicious still! Just guessing they use an espresso on the gentler side. It's really cute inside and there's calming music that's played. It's low enough that it isn't distracting. There's a lot of seating for the size of this cafe but if you're more two people someone is going to be seated separately. I got the Prosciutto Bagel with a Brown sugar Cafe Latte. Both were delicious. I'll definitely be coming back for the Brown sugar Cafe Latte. There's also an interesting menu of teas. I definitely want to try some of them in the future. read more
