2nd visit. We decided to be safe this time and try the hand held. You choose a protein, toppings and bread. Hamburgers come in pink and no pink. There wasn't any pink in ours and we ordered them pink. They also are totally bland and dry. I ordered mine bistro style. The balsamic wasn't a reduction, just a whole lot of poor quality balsamic soaking the bun so that it fell apart. It poured off when I picked it up. My husband just had a cheeseburger but his was the same poor quality. He didn't even finish half. When we told our waiter he didn't care. He just asked if we wanted the check. Live in the neighborhood and would like it to be a place where we want to go. Been there a couple times this week and the service has been awful. We sat in the patio and one server working the entire patio. Didn't get service for quite some time and really never saw her again after we finally got our food. Went again the next day for dinner with friends. One of our friends didn't even get his drink, he went up to the bar and got one himself. We finally had to wave down the server to take our food order, he got upset that he was so busy and yelled at me for awhile before I asked for the bill. Will never go back. We went to Northstar Tavern the other night and really enjoyed the experience! The booths have barriers in between for safe distancing. Hands down the best thing we ordered was the Jalapeño Avocado Wontons. They had amazing flavor and exceeded expectations. The Loaded Tots and and Philly were also delicious. We went on a Tuesday night after the dinner rush. Place was well laid out with plenty of TVs for easy viewing from just about anywhere, good sized dining area and a large wrap around bar rail. Our server was fast to greet us, quick on drinks and refills. The server was also very knowledgeable and helpful on the menu. They have a good selection of craft brews and domestics. We ordered the Jalapeño avocado wontons and the crybaby cauliflower for apps. Both were really good, the wontons came with 5 pieces and a really good side sauce pairing. The cauliflower was plentiful and also delicious. For entrees our table had the house style bison burger, the bacon jam beef burger, the cream cheese chicken wrap and the Meatloaf. All of the food came out quickly (less than 15 minutes from ordering) and all were very tasty. The meatloaf was by far the best bang for your buck. It comes with two massive slices. It definitely is 2 meals worth and worth ordering again! The bison burger was cooked to order and done to perfection. If you're looking for a spot for good food at a decent price and a sports bar - ish atmosphere, definitely stop in and try this place out. read more

I enjoy NorthStar for a place to get take out - their drive through pickup service has been pretty great during the pandemic. I recommend the Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich and Ellsworth cheese curds. Their Banh Mi pizza is a delicious carnitas pizza with pickled cucumbers and carrots and a teriyaki BBQ sauce. (My mouth watered just typing that.) They also have a Burger and Pizza of the month that is always worth a look. They had a Taco Pizza back in November or December that was a family favorite - our elementary school aged kids devoured it every time and we loved it as well. If you're reading this, NorthStar owners, that is worth putting on the menu permanently in our opinion. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the service and TV content. The table service was average at best. We were there as a family at 5:45 for dinner, the TVs had some cable channel content going that was not appropriate for my kids young eyes. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. They just cannot quite get 4 stars quite yet. But they are new to the neighborhood so I am giving them a break. Went here Sunday, November 18th at 5:00PM for dinner with the family. There were 7 of us all together. The husband and I arrived a bit early to get a table as the nephews were joining us and if they do not get fed in time they turn into nasty gremlins. Walking in at 4:40 we entered upon a line of people with no hostess in sight. When she finally appeared she grabbed a water of cleaning supplies as she walked each party to their table. I hope this was as they were short staffed and not a usual practice. We were given a pager and told there would be a 25 minute wait. We made our way to the bar where Kaitlyn made me one of the best Long Islands I have had. I am very picky about what I consider a great LI and she succeeded in every way. The place was obviously very, very busy and Kaitlyn appeared to be working much harder than other staff. Someone kept coming around with apps that he seemed to have no idea where to deliver. Hopefully someone got the cheese curds they ordered. I was ready for round 2 but Kaitlyn was up to her ears in tasks. Some other gal whose names I fail to remember swooped in and asked me what I was drinking. I told her and she took over our service and I prefer she had not. A.) she made a horrible LI and B.) she was slow as hell bringing over the bill when I asked for it as I laced our next round of drinks. If you want a LI and Kaitlyn is working, please ask for her by name to make it! We sat at a large table in the back that was much more quiet than the rowdiness up by the bar. The family ordered items from pretty much all corners of the menu and everyone seemed pleased. Well, except for the 9 year who ordered mac and cheese and was disappointed that it was not plain old Kraft. I opted for the appetizer BBQ pork fries as my meal and they were okay. The fried are the skinny ones and they were a tad undercooked and unsalted. I just prefer a different size fry. The pork was surprisingly a bit spicy and there could have been more of it. All in all it was not the best, nor was it the worst. I may go back to try another menu item. They appear to have a decent HH. Just make sure the right bartender makes your drink! NorthStar Tavern's happy hour specials pulled us in on new year's day, and we were happy to see their selection & price-points. We had no wait for seating, but the service throughout our meal was just "ok." Our initial drink orders were taken & we got those promptly, but the wait to have them stop back & take our food order was a bit long. The restaurant wasn't full, so extended wait times were surprising. Also, we had to ask for silverware a few times - which is kind of awkward! And, NYE must've been busy because they were completely out of normal sized napkins - and we only received a few cocktail napkins during our meal. Now napkin supply is not something in the server's control, but it was weird since we did see our server & others wrapping silverware with the regular-sized napkins while we were still consuming our meals. Our service review is really what drove a 3-star rating vs. 4-star rating. For the food: The chicken tenders are great, and the cauliflower will surprise you...it doesn't even taste like cauliflower! Definitely get the honey mustard sauce for the chicken, the barbecue sauce is runny & the honey mustard packed more flavor. We also got the jalapeño avocado wontons. Actually, the server offered to go get a manager to explain the charge to us. She did speak with him, and apparently he just said it was policy. He never came to our table personally. If it was clearly stated on the menu, my husband overlooked it. We have travelled quite a bit, and this is the first time we encountered this. However, we are new to Minneapolis, so maybe it is unique to this area. We will make sure to enquire in the future. Visited for first time last night. Def a fun atmosphere- family friendly, clean and modern. Felt more like a restaurant you would find in Mpls vs. Bloomington. Food was great- had the jalapeño avocado wontons and hamburger with fries. Our 8 month old loved the fries :) total bill came to $24. So a little spendy... but tasty! Owner (pretty sure!) was walking around and checking in on folks. Super friendly and seems to love his job! Very trendy place, friendly staff. My husband and I came here on a Friday evening, it was about a 20 minutes, well worth it. We started with a few appetizers. We got jalapeño wontons and pretzel sticks with cheese, both amazing I might say. For our entrees we both got the fish and chips, it was awesome! I went with a party of 5 on a Tuesday evening in December. The weather was frightful, the service was delightful, the food was lightful... is that a word? The food was delicious!! We all had decision fatigue so we asked the waitress what she recommended and ordered all of her suggestions. You pick one of nine meat/veggie main items, then one of nine different "set ups" which includes your sauces and veggies, then pick one of six different buns/breads/wraps. We've eaten here a handful of times pre-covid and ordered a handful of times since. The food is mediocre bar food, but sometimes that's good enough. This weekend we ordered delivery and the manager cancelled our order without telling us which we only learned by calling. Apparently this is something they do if the restaurant is busy. After talking with management they took our order, billed us and re-opened the delivery. They said they would fix the double billing, but did not and the manager was incredibly rude accusing my wife of trying to get free food. We will never patronize this establishment again and continue to tell everyone in the neighborhood our experience. Unbelievable. We had to get the bank involved to handle the double billing and extra-tip the delivery driver for waiting aroundvan extra hour. All for super salty and greasy bar food, pass.
