Travelled to Vail weekend 9/24/2020 Stopped off to gas up with our family around 4 in the afternoon what grabbed my attention was they had cronuts I thought I would go in see if they had any, I walked In at the door a man greeted me somewhat and asked me what I was needing I asked him if they had any since I noticed they had donuts at the front counter he replied she will have to help you I can't do that, so I waited for the lady at the counter while I waited I looked around the restaurant was almost empty and the man which I want to call the host but could be the owner walked over to the customer at the counter and started massaging her shoulders, she saw me looking at her I heard her say I did have a bad day. I thought to myself how unprofessional He must serve up more than food here. I paid for my donuts and left, after my family fueled the cars at the gas station in the same lot as this place they decided to go eat there as we walked In The host/ owner Greeted us with 3 different questions one being Do you have a reservation? Clearly no one had a reservation since the place was almost empty with the one customer in the whole restaurant, we told him can you please seat us in the back he said no I don't have the staff. He also stated this is a fine dining restaurant as if we could not afford the pricing. I heard a lady getting takeout asking him if her enchiladas were ready. Really??? Fine Dining ? Hmm Interesting.... He proceeds to tell us there is a hamburger place around the corner we Can go there. We were very gracious and said okay thank you and left. I get it Vail, Co is predominantly white and wealthy people frequent these establishments and that Any other race could Not afford to eat here is his presumption. So he insults us by telling us to go get a hamburger around the corner umm he serves hamburgers looked like he could have made some money that day and Refused to Serve a Family due to not being White, as for any other race could Not afford to eat there. Well instead of wasting our time he should have just said We just Don't serve your kind! We are a Family that can afford to pay his prices and then some but too bad he doesn't need Our money. Just Money from his kind. Racist Bigot Asshat! Anyone against racism and bigotry Should not frequent this establishment! Your Money is Better Spent Elsewhere! That was literally the most disgusting sorry excuse for customer service I have ever experienced lol. I booked a reservation through OpenTable and then realized about 20 minutes later that my location was set for a completely different city about 2 hours away from where I was. I tried to cancel on OpenTable but it had me put down a credit card when I originally booked and said it would charge $50 if I no-show or cancel without a 24 hour notice. I called to see if I could just cancel over the phone, and the man who answered asked what my name was and I said "Donna and it's at 8pm." Then, he says okay what time???! And I said, oh, sorry.. 8 pm.... And then he says okay, it's cancelled. And hangs up on me. I wasn't sure if that meant he was going to charge my card, so I called back, was put on hold for quite some time, and then when he came back, I asked if my card was going to be charged because of what it said on OpenTable and he just yelled "IT'S CANCELLED, MA'AM" so I thought maybe he didn't understand what I was asking, and I said "no no, I'm sorry I got that I was just wondering if it was going to charge my card because on OpenTable it said-" and then he yelled "Oh my god, it's CANCELED!!" And hung up on me. I called back a third time, was put on hold again, and then when he came back I said "hi sorry to bother, I just need to know if my card will be charged.." and he proceeds to yell at me that the $50 is for no-shows not cancellations and that's why he kept repeating that and he already told me that so he doesn't understand why I'm calling back and so I was trying to apologize but he kept yelling, so I hung up instead. That was so unnecessary and stressful like oh my god? OpenTable literally says that if you cancel with less than a 24 hour notice, you get charged the $50. I'm so sorry for wanting to check if I would get charged lol. Sorry, dude, hope you have a better night I guess lol. read more

Horrible experience. Me and 2 of my friends went in the get some ranch for our chicken wings we bought a a different place Then they gave me a 5 dollar bill for RANCH. So we sit down in the restaurant and we got the bill changed to 3 dollars because Ranch doesn't cost 5 dollars. The MANAGER started cussing at me and my friends for telling her that 5 dollars for ranch just doesn't make any sense. Then that crazy women that calls herself a manager says that that chef wants to beat our ass. (we are 13 and 14). Should have called to police to go talk to the crazy manager and chef. The crazy women verbally assaulted me and threatened us. We are just kids try to get some ranch. 0 out of 5 the crazed women got not tip and one star reviews from me and my friend. After this experience at the restaurant I will never be going back and I think she needs to get fired along with that terrible chef that made threats to beat out underages asses. Do not recommend the restaurant to anyone there is a crazy lady in there. Karma will get them. read more

Revised: guessing since every time I've been here the owner was present. Now my initial impression that the service module is whack. You order from the cash register, even when dining in. Pick up your own food from the pass, your own silver, try to cut the line at the cashier to get a refill on coffee, bus your own table, etc. no service at all. It is busy here. Food is good not great. I suspect complacency or entitlement here. Too bad. I've had a couple good experiences. Ruined by a couple of bad. Previous: This owner is on his "A" game. Every time I've been he has been in the dining room bussing tables and pressing the flesh. And he by no means has to be as it's rumored he is a wealthy publishing exec from out west. Yet he lives this business. As all restaurant owners should. Food is solid and consistent. Morning offerings are their strong suit and I can't go one week without a doughnut run to this place. Great place, local vibe, we found it from our fellow yelpers. Everything we had was wonderful: Java pancakes, croissant sandwich, pineapple pancakes, maple bacon donut and butterfinger donut. We saw the line which went super fast. Gals who took our order were super friendly. You order at the counter then take a seat until they call your name to pick up your meal. Most everything is do-it-yourself: find your own seat, get your own food, water and silverware, clean up your table. On Vacation from Florida and this place made our vacation that much better! The food was delicious, we went for happy hour which is a great deal and the best egg roll and Mac n cheese I've ever had! The customer service was amazing as well, made us feel very welcomed and our waitress at the bar was very delightful. Haven't eaten here in a while but I get the breakfast burrito without the wrap and enjoy it smothered in green chili. The chili has zip but not death mouth spice. The rueben is ridiculous! Thick slices of pastrami or corned beef available. The sandwich is a two day eat. Coffee is peets and tasty with single drip cups if you prefer. I wanted to buy some items to go and the man who walked in behind me refused to wear a mask covering his face. The breakfast is really good and the donuts are amazing. I gave it an ok because the wait is really long for your food. We waited almost an hour for our croissant sandwiches. It was good but not worth the wait. Chef Noah was really friendly and that was appreciated but the wait was ridiculous. Call ahead your order or go on a day when you can wait a while for your food. Three bad meals in a row , including one from Benders south side. Not sure what has happened but the quality of the food has slipped a lot. A simple breakfast sandwich, overpriced by the way, was completely inedible. The burger from Benders, ordered medium well, was cold and raw in the middle. Just walked out after not being spoken to for 15 minutes. Saw other patrons receive menus, water and even being acknowledged before us. There were 2 servers, male and female, and we were told by the lady behind the counter the female was our sever. She just looked passed us. The male server seemed to manage his tables much better. The manhattan cocktail was well made, especially if you enjoy something strong and straightforward. Portions are on the larger side, which was good since it is on the pricier end as expected for the location and the resort atmosphere.

The side of brussel sprouts was very good as well. Overall, though I agree this isn't necessarily "fine dining", the service and the food was excellent. We would definitely eat here again.

My girlfriend declared the salmon the best she has ever eaten. I chose the schnitzel, one of the chef's favorites, served with new potatoes and green beans. It was fantastic, and the portion was so generous that I took home enough for a second meal. The espresso martinis were outstanding as well. Be sure to save room for dessert. Everything is freshly made, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. To top it all off, the owner came out to greet us personally. He was the perfect host and an exceptional chef. They weren't too familiar with the breakfast at the places we mentioned, but one person immediately said, "There's The Little Diner right down the street. It's very good and has even been featured on the Food Network." We decided to give it a try, and we are very glad we did. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning and sat at the counter. At the time we were the only customers there. A very nice lady brought us water and got me a coffee while we looked over the menu. It actually took us a while to decide because there were so many great sounding options. As we sat there deciding, more and more people started coming in. My wife ordered the sausage gravy over a biscuit with eggs and cheese grits, and I ordered the Eggs Benedict with potatoes. When the food arrived, everything looked excellent. The flavors matched the presentation too. My wife said the sausage gravy was outstanding, and my Eggs Benedict was excellent as well. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were very good, and the hollandaise sauce had great flavor. While sitting at the counter, we spent some time talking with our server. She told us she had been there since shortly after the diner first opened. Unfortunately, she also explained that the building is scheduled to be demolished so condos can be built above the property, and they are unsure whether the diner will be able to return afterward. It's honestly sad to hear about a place this good possibly being pushed out because of rising development and rental costs. I understand building owners want to maximize profits, but it's disappointing when small local businesses that people truly enjoy are forced out by higher rents and redevelopment. Places like this are what give towns character. Overall, this place was excellent. Great food, friendly people, and exactly the kind of local spot you hope to find while traveling.

They had the coolest salt and pepper shakers!!!…read more The server was sweet and prompt. The food was tasteless. Duck wings were the best, but heavy sweet syrup and not a lot of duck meat. Barratta was horrible. $6 for table bread. Lamb shank was dry. Couldn't finish the meal. Drink was light. Wines were ok. Ambiance was as expected. Topper was we couldn't sleep (stomach ache) and daughter threw up in the middle of the night. We would never go back. :(
