We arrived at Sabor Mazatlan right at 12:00 PM -- clearly lunchtime -- expecting to order from the lunch menu. Instead, we were told we had to order from the dinner menu only. That was frustrating and unexpected. The dinner pricing felt extremely high for a basic Mexican restaurant. Soft drinks were $4 each, and our total for a simple lunch came to over $120 before tip. For midday dining, that felt excessive. Our food also came out in spurts rather than together. I ordered the Burrito Buzo and my wife had the Carne Asada. The food itself was average at best -- not bad, but definitely not worth the prices charged. Service started off attentive but dropped off completely after our meals were delivered. No check-in, no refills, no follow-up. We felt largely ignored for the remainder of our visit while other tables appeared to receive more attention. Overall, between being unable to order from the lunch menu at noon, the high prices, inconsistent service, and average food, this was a disappointing experience. read more

Stopped by here last Sunday evening and the place was a hopping, sat up at the bar watching sports on tv and really enjoyed the ice cold beer. The bartender was so friendly that he even let us try a shot of the house tequila. This is probably the best Mexican food in Avon. read more

Dinner Stop 2 on our Beaver Creek Conference trip was Sabor Mazatlan. As someone who truly remembers when Colorado had Mexican food to die for, I was really looking forward to trying this place. When we walked in we were greeted and sat immediately. The environment was warm and the aroma of the amazing food hit you AS SOON as you got in the door. The menu had an elaborate amount of choices and it seemed as though their Seafood was something they were known for. We did not try the seafood this go round, however we are looking forward to coming back and trying their Crab Enchiladas and other enticing items. The things we did have the pleasure of trying were the salsa and chips, jalapeno cheese sauce, a combination plate with a tamal and chimichanga and Sopes with Pork Carnitas.     Salsa and Chips 10/10 (not pictured)   The salsa was just how we like it, fresh and spicy and you could tell the chips were freshly made. The salsa had great flavor with a kick that was not overwhelming.   Combination Plate with Tamal, Enchilada, and Chimichanga and a side of Jalapeno Cheese Sauce 8.5/10   The meal came beautifully plated along with a side of beans, cheese, and rice. The Chimichanga was tightly wrapped and filled with delicious meat and other flavors. The enchilada was stuffed with ground beef and had a flavorful red sauce on top of it with the perfect amount of cheese. The tamal came with green sauce that we opted to have on the side. It was evident that the tamal was intended to have the sauce accompanying it as the flavor of the tamal on its own was not extremely powerful, but was still very juicy and had light flavor. The jalapeno cheese sauce was delicious and could have been put on anything - we do wish it was a bit warmer, but even a little cold it was still good!   Sopes  with Pork Carnitas 9/10   This was our first time trying Sopes so we were super excited to have them. They came covered in cheese and sour cream along with guacamole and a large helping of excellently marinated pork carnitas. Additionally the plate came with beans, cheese, and rice. The flavor of each of the foods featured on the Sopes melted together beautifully with each bite and even though there were only two - they were extremely filling.   The customer service was excellent, the food was fresh and came out quick, and our overall experience was quite enjoyable. We have already decided this will be a spot we frequent whenever we are in the area and are considering going back for lunch today. read more

Not only the portion size is small for what you pay, we had two people with allergies, that did not order seafood that had reactions. This means one thing: cross contamination. I called to let them and they said to call back at 2 PM and speak with the manager. I called back at 2:30 PM and the manager still wasn't there. The server was loudly chewing gum the entire time. We would have left at that point if it had not been a long day and we did not want search for another restaurant. My wife had the vegetarian enchilada with rice and beans. The rice and beans were had absolutely no seasoning and couldn't even be helped by a good dose of salt. Any flavor in the burrito was killed by a heavily acidic tomatillo sauce. The Guadalajara style torta ahogada described as being simmered in sauce. It was okay as a sandwich but the sauce came on the side and there definitely was no simmering involved when it came to the sandwich. First time I've ever had one so afterwards I looked it up and this one hand none of what should be expected in a torta ahogada. No beans, wrong kind of bread and it had not been partially or fully drowned. Glad that I didn't make the mistake of trying any of their pricey seafood items. I had a medium margarita which wasn't bad, glad I did not order a large as the medium was huge, served in one of those massive goblets that shrimp cocktail or seafood stews are often served in. Hubby and I discovered this little gem on our way to Colorado Wine Country. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon...the locals know this restaurant and frequent here. It was busy, so much so, we had to wait a bit for a table and it was about 2:30 pm.
