This is my go to service station. I have been going here for over 10 years. Regular maintenance such as Oil change, tire rotation, inspections. I have taken it in for a few issues and as a woman who doesn't know much about cars, I am always afraid of being taken advantage of and treated like an annoyance. Not here. They are always very polite and patient in explaining what is going on with my car. I have have gone in with car issues thinking - "what is this going to cost me". And it turns out to be nothing and not charged. I've "stopped by" to get a check for air pressure and road trip checks- and they always accommodate me and many times have charged nothing. Went to this sunoco on Saturday 22nd, August 2020 for inspection and emissions testing. They did that job fine enough, but customers beware what you have in your car. The service people have sticky fingers. My coins that I use for tolls and the cash I keep in my car for emergencies was all stolen. Absolutely tacky and unethical. Highly suggest you remove all valuables from your car before you go there, if you decide to use them. read more

Frank, the manager, was a great help to me when my blinker wasn't working. He told me to just swing by at my convenience, then he checked out my car immediately when I pulled up, fixed my blinker problem, and didn't charge me. Been going to North Point Sunoco for many years and the service is always great. Use them for all my oil changes and lubrication and other needed repairs . Today I was trying to replace a turn signal light bulb and took out the headlight bulb instead . Could not get it back so I went over to Sunoco . They were very busy but the manager,Marvin, said he would take a quick look. Not only did he replace the bulb but was able to get the headlight back into place in a few minutes Only charged me for the cost light bulb, labor was a courtesy. Now that's great service. Just moved to the area. Tried to sell me parts and repairs I didn't need, talked down to me, tried to scare me. Wouldn't listen to a thing I said (I'm a woman) disrespectful. It's been years since I paid the extra you're a woman tax for car repair and I'm not about to go back. Maybe they're just dishonest, but the way they tried to sell me felt more sexist than anything I've experienced in decades. Then again, I've had an honest and respectful mechanic for 25 years. Thank god I know I don't have to put up with it and can take my business elsewhere. There are honest, upfront repair shops out there who earn their living doing good work, not ripping people off. These guys saved the day!!! I was driving down 7 in the construction zone and got a flat. I pulled off and opened yelp to find a service station and this one came up. I called and they said they could send someone. The repair guy was there in under 10 minutes and had the doughnut tire on it in no time. They didn't have my full size tire in stock but could order it. I was going out of town and couldn't wait for a new one. I asked what i owed for the service call. BEWARE! My dad brought his lexus in to get a engine light taken a look at. Looks as if it needed a new mass air flow sensor. My dad knows nothing about cars. Fortunately i do and happen to work for Carfax and am in constant communication with dealers and service shops. These guys not only over charged him $200 for a $50 sensor but also charged him labor for the part. Be careful when working with service shops. 2 and a half hours for a induction service and new sensor. Come on guys that takes an hour and a half if your moving as slow as you can. read more

I've lived in Reston for 30 years and over those years I've bought gas and gotten state inspections on my cars with only the occasional tire repairs. Yesterday I noticed a nail in my left rear and took the car and tire to this facility for a repair. They were very busy but worked my in and got the tire patched just fine. The young man at the repair desk was apologetic for not getting the job done sooner and I thanked him for giving me a break on the repair price. This is the a great place to go to when you aren't going to a dealer and I'll keep using their services when I can. They by the way have great coffee and a way lower price than Star Bucks. read more

I called to see if I could bring in my car because it was having a hard time starting and they said to come right in. I waited for a short time and after thoroughly looking at my car they couldn't find the source of the problem. They even told me they didn't want to just throw a new battery in because it still had life left. I was asked to bring it in again and leave it with them for a while. Although they weren't able to figure out the cause of the problem (I think it has to do with the car's computer system) it was great knowing they didn't want to just overcharge for something my car didn't need. The mechanics are so nice! I was in a bind, between the cold weather and a restless toddler in the backseat, as all four of tire sensors went off with low air pressure. I filled up my gas tank, thinking that I could get a token for the air machine but it only takes quarters- of which I had no cash nor could the gas station attendant provide cash back. I was about to leave when the mechanic stepped in and told me to wait a few minutes and he could help me out. He was wonderful- double checked the tire pressure settings and filled all four tires...THANK YOU!!!! read more

I took my car for an emissions inspection. They called me and told me that it was done and that I could come by and pick up the car. After I picked it up, I went on to the Virginia DMV site in order to register my car and let them know that my emissions was done so that I could get the updated license plate stickers. I realized that I didn't have an emissions number and called North Point Sunoco so that I could get it. They told me that the emissions inspection was NEVER DONE! So, in effect, I PAID FOR THE EMISSIONS TEST AND NEVER HAD THE JOB DONE. WHAT ELSE HAVE THEY CLAIMED THAT WAS DONE AND WAS NEVER TOUCHED?! ABSOLUTE CROOKS AND I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! I will, also, complain to the DMV and BBB. This place should be shut down. read more

One evening this week, I noticed the low-tire light in my car went on. I left my car with North Point Sunoco and explained I needed the car back the next day by 10:30 a.m., if possible. They found two nails and repaired the tire first thing in the morning and I was able to pick up the car by 9:00 a.m. The guys were very friendly and professional as they explained about the nails and the repair. I have been using this SUnoco for years and they have always been professional, reasonably priced and fair. They were running late for my simple oil change and offered a free one if I was willing to return another day. Another time, they noticed a gouge in a fairly new tire and offered to replace it. When I checked the price, it was the next lowest I was able to find with less than a $5 difference. As I said, reasonable and fair. Oh, and no, I don't know them personally. read more

VA Safety and Emissions Inspections Review. Summary: great inspections, but it takes way tooo long, unless you can drop off the car. North Point is a very nice gas station in the North Point Shopping Plaza. It's nice and clean at the entrance off of Reston Ave Parkway. North Point is very popular for doing inspections, there is usually a long line. The inspection guy looks like he's very conscientious, and he really is. I've done my inspections here quite often, and they are very thorough, catching very small details that other inspectors would not. This is not necessarily a good thing. The inspector is nice enough to warn you before starts if he thinks the car won't pass, so you don't get the icky X sticker on the car. The main drawback of North Point, it takes "forever" to get the car inspected, especially when there is a line. I recently tried some other places and North Point takes the cake for length of time. I usually call ahead to North Point station to ask how many people are waiting. Even if there are no cars, be aware that it's a long inspection process. Pros: They will really inspect your car closely. If you are concerned about getting a thorough good inspection, this is the place to go. Cons: They will really inspect your car closely. The inspections take forever. If you have a relatively safe new car, just go elsewhere and save time. read more

Super fast service, was done with an oil change in under 15 minutes. Prices were clearly laid out and reasonable ($46 for Sunoco full synthetic). I rarely agree with energy costs, and that's not necessarily this station's fault, but I paid it, I filled up, and I left. I was in a pinch when my car battery needed changed, and it was near the end of the day! My parents (whom I was visiting), highly suggested I run down to this Sunoco and see if they could help out. They were very kind and squeezed me in at the end of the day. After I got the car back, it was suddenly telling me something was wrong with the transmission. I figured (and they concurred) that it may just be the ECU needing to be reset, since this light was not on prior to the battery change. They offered to reset the ECU if I swung by when their technician guy was in. Since I live much further away, I was stuck driving with my car complaining at me about this little transmission thing. It was driving poorly, and after a while I was concerned that something else was not quite right. I decided to take the time over the weekend to bring it back and have them look at it. Marvin and Peter were incredibly helpful! After further investigation they were able to inform me that the car ECU is a piece that has a recall on it and needs to be replaced by Ford. They let me know what the code was and gave me clear direction on what needed to be done to fix her up. Not only that, but this little follow up appointment they did free of charge... not very often you find honest mechanics that will give you a little extra help out of the goodness of their heart :) Very kind people that make the journey not so overwhelming or intimidating. Took my car in for an alignment. 3 visits later, I finally gave up. The first time it took 3 hours and my car was returned with the steering wheel 25 degrees to the left. The second time, it took 2 hours and the wheel was 25 degrees to the right. The third time, it took 2 hours and was just as bad as the first. The frustrating thing was the mechanics ASSURED me each time that they had road tested the vehicle and everything was perfect. If you held the steering wheel straight, you would end up in oncoming traffic in 20 feet. No exaggeration. I measured it. Each time they also ASSURED me the car would be ready in an hour. As you read, it was late every time in terms of HOURS. I finally took the car to a chain mechanic who did the alignment correctly the first time in 45 minutes. I would give this place a 0 star if possible. I wouldn't venture here if I were you, but if you do I hope your experience is different from mine. read more

Worst experience ever. I took my car here initially to have an emissions inspection. The guy told me not to do it because my check engine light was on and that it would not pass. Fine, so I agreed to have it fixed. $1,200 later I drive my car the recommended 60-100 miles and the light comes back on. I'm a little upset so I come back and I have the guy working the font dest write down all the codes that were coming from the car. I do the research myself and find the that carbon canister is the most common issue when that combination of codes is seen. I reviewed the paper work from when I got it fixed and the carbon canister was never checked or even mentioned. So I take the car back and sure enough it's the carbon canister. They told me they would cut me a deal understanding the issue and that I could have the work done for $600 more. I decided to just take the car and do it myself. I also noticed they said I needed to have a new gas cap even though the gas cap I have is about a week old. Makes me think the don't even really check things. Also, if your car doesn't pass the emissions inspection, and the cost to fix it is over $815, then you qualify for a waiver--this bit of information was never communicated to me when I first came in so I potentially never had to spend the money in the first place. Bottom line - you're best off looking on youtube and figuring out how to do the repairs yourself. After all that's what I'm going to have to do despite spending $1,200. read more

Brake system installed by North Point Sunoco seized-up/failed during warranty period. Can't blame NP, most likely due their supplier of (faulty??) parts. Repair of this problem cost me approx $1500. After some "negotiation" with manager at NP, Frank G, I was pleased that he stood tall to his warranty and reimbursed me total out of pocket cost. All's well that ends well. read more

I went to a dealership previously where I was told I'd need to do some costly repairs on my brakes, but North Point Sunoco did an inspection for free and informed me that my brakes were still in great condition. The honesty and friendliness of the staff have earned my trust and I will absolutely be visiting them in the future! read more

This establishment is corrupt and deplorable in their business practices. I went there once years ago and they failed my emissions inspection; they said I needed a new catalytic converter. So I purchased one from them and had them install it, only to have my emissions numbers to WORSEN after they replaced the part. I later found out (from another mechanic) that they had removed the platinum catalyst from the converter (I suppose to sell, since that is the most expensive and valuable part of the converter). After this unscrupulous experience, I never went there again until recently. I mistakenly thought this would be simple exercise; a mere oil change and safety inspection. I came back to find my tail light broken. They then called me telling me that I needed to purchase a whole new tail light and have them install it. This establishment clearly has a history of failing people's inspections so that they can increase their business and make more money from innocent customers. Its happened to me twice now. Unfortunately, this garage is overpriced, takes too long, and will overcharge for simple repairs that they just do without telling you. Then, once the work is done, you have to pay for it. Granted, the repairs weren't large; but, the repair was not what I went in for, nor did I ask for that repair. I went in for an oil change and that was all. I do not like having my time wasted and I like even less being called a liar by the mechanic. After having my tires replaced and the alignment done, my emergency light came on and remained on for the next 24 hours. It was on when I pulled my car into the North Point Sunoco, and again when the bay mechanic restarted the engine. I was told to give them a little time, and they would call me. An hour and a half later, after fully exploring North Point, I called to check in on my car. Of course, they were "just about to call me." Seems that the light was no longer on. But they wanted to take the car for one more spin to be sure. So I wandered to Radio Shack, then moved outside to a bench in front of the store. From there, I had a clear view of my car where it was sitting behind the Sunoco and adjacent to the bank. I figured someone was going to take it for another drive. 25 minutes later, (2 hours and 10 mins total by this point) I see the mechanic who works the appointment desk walk from towards the bank, back to Sunoco. At that point, I walked to the station. I was angry and asked why I hadn't been called with an update about my car. The guy who had just strolled back in said, "I just got back from test driving it again." To which I said, "No. You didn't. My car's been sitting back there for the past 25 minutes, at least. I have too much to do to wait all day for this." He then tried to switch his story and say that he had driven it and then another guy had, but he had just come from the car. I told him and his boss that I didn't know where he had been, but my car had been in the same place for the past half hour. At this point, I don't even know if I like the tires or not. I do know that I will never use that Sunoco again for car service. I go here to buy gas only. I went once to get my inspection done and they failed it, claiming they found all sorts of things wrong with it. They said it would cost around $900 to fix everything. I took it to Ohio to get the repairs done since I can do it there for around $300, then I took it back in for a re-inspection. It still failed because he claimed whoever did the repairs didn't do them right. So, I took my car somewhere else. Not only did it pass, but the guy inspecting it looked at my rejection sticker issued by them and told me not to go there anymore because they fail everybody. Several months later, I had something hanging from underneath my car and, against my better judgment, took it in to them just to see if they knew what it was. The mechanic didn't even put it up on a rack. He just glanced underneath and told me it was a piece of my exhaust and I needed a whole new exhaust system, which would cost at least $800. I then took it to a Meineke in Sterling. He looked underneath and said it was an anti-vibration weight that had come loose. He tightened it up and said, "No charge!" Seriously, do not go here for any auto repairs. They *will* rip you off. read more

If you are considering taking your car to this shop, TURN AROUND AND RUN! This is by far the worst service I've had done to my car topped with the worst customer service I've experienced in a very very long time. First I was quoted over $1000 for my car to be fixed when the total after I bought my own parts ended up being only $288 which is very excessive considering $110 of that was just to look at the car and diagnose the problem. Then they day before my car was to be fixed I called ahead to make sure I had the right parts only to be called the next day and told the part didn't fit and that my car was already being worked on so I ended up having to buy the part from them for $90 when in stores it can be purchased for $30. Then I was told my car would be ready in no more than two hours but that two hours quickly turned to four hours. Then once I called the shop to make a payment for the repairs it took over ten minutes to get the balance paid. Then the icing on the cake was the day after I picked my car up after having the battery replaced by the shop my car died in the road twice and the battery light came on. I called the shop to tell them strange things were happening to my car that had never happened before the repairs such as when I turned on the lights all of a sudden now the windshield wipers come on simultaneously which has never happened in the past. I was disappointed when the response I received from the mechanic supervisor was that wasn't something they could have done wrong, and that more than likely it would be another charge to fix this. Shortly after this conversation I reached out to several other professionals indicating the issues that I had with the car and their diagnosis were all aligned when they agreed that the shop more than likely installed my parts incorrectly. I don't mean to be long winded but I just want to give a warning that I wish someone had given me about this shop. Please do not waste your time here. I moved to Reston from Los Angeles one year ago and it is difficult to find trustworthy doctors, dentists and mechanic wherever you go. I've yet to find a doctor but as far as my automotive needs are concerned I'm coming here. First off Hector met me and was very helpful. My car had broken down at the Boston Market up the street within the same mall. Tyrone, another mechanic at the shop went up with a charging box and started my vehicle so that I could drive it to the shop. I thought for sure that the problem was my alternator because I had already replaced the battery. The job was going to cost me easily over $400! I went to work and received a call from Andrew, the Manager around lunch time. Andrew was very professional, polite and helpful. Andrew told me that the only problem was that the battery cables were lose and that the battery, alternator and everything else was working just fine! My bill was then $51.50 plus a little more because some small lights needed to be replaced. Such honesty in today's world is rare and I am so grateful to them for placing a newfound hope in a mechanic. Special thanks go out to Gustavo who actually worked on my vehicle as well. After meeting the manager, however, I was very impressed and decided to return in the future when my car needed servicing. Since that time I have been extremely satisfied with the exceptional level of customer service provided by both Andrew and Hector. The quality of the work has been excellent and they have been very upfront as to whether a particular repair is required, recommended or not even necessary.
