There's a lot going on with a bite. first bite the prosciutto and crescenza cheese is what you get. As you continue biting down, you get to this asparagus and and grana padano. So mouth full of cheese. If I had to get one appetizer, see the next one. Crispy Calamari $13.5 Get it! not too much crusting that you don't taste the calamari. Just enough crush that doesn't hide the calamari. the lemon vinaigrette is legit. White truffle garilc bread $12 didn't get to sample this until after it got cold...so harder to judge, Probably better when hot. But I could pass on this appetizer, I personally had the strozzapreti - $18.5 consisting of the chicken, roasted mushroom, spinach, pine nuts, and Parmesan cream. overall remind me of chicken Alfredo, but not. The noodle are STROZZAPRETI which are elongated cavatelli. never had this kind, but I do like it. It is able to soak up the sauce. Chicken was grilled nicely, not dried, but juicy. The Parmesan cream sauce was not overwhelming to where you might get full of it before you're done with the dish. toasted pine nuts sprinkled in for extra dimension crunch. And mushroom throughout each bite. Pretty good. Chicken pesto with zucchini noodle - $17 had a taste of this. If you are wondering about zucchini noodle, don't hesitate to use this kind. diver scallops $25 mmm, had a bite of this as well. Big juicy, succulent and cooked to the right amount that the scallops melts in your mouth. Do recommend. Roasted salmon $23 had a bite of this as well. again. Spot on with the cooking. Whoa! This place is amazing! Really have been looking for a good Italian place that is all about making their food by scratch and I've found it! Very cool modern environment that's not your traditional Italian restaurant that's more styled like a barn with nice wide open doors to bring in a good air flow on those nice nights. They also have valet parking that's complementary Now the food is about as good as it can get. My wife got the fungi pizza which had that perfect crispy crunch when you bite into a fresh dough pizza with a nice amount of mushrooms throughout. Very good pizza and can easily be shared. I got the mushroom tortellini. Now that was what I've been looking for! The creme sauce is to die for. I could easily just have that sauce and dip bread into it. So good! The tortellini was filled with a nice blend of cheese and mushrooms and they added brussel sprouts, pine nuts and sweet potato. Perfect dish! This is a very nice spot for lunch/dinner. You can miss it easily on the way in as the driveway is sortof hidden by the bushes. They have complimentary valet parking. Enough space to sit at the bar, indoors or outdoors and kids friendly too. We got a fee items for appetizers: the burrata was the best item I had that night. Everything was seasoned well and I would eat this everyday no problem. We also got the zucca chips that were nice and crispy (but a bit oily) and the prosciutto bruschetta (was okay). I then had the arugula and avocado salad with chicken. That was a light and refreshing salad I liked it a lot! We shared a pasta bolognese which I thought was ok. Pasta was good, meat sauce was just ok to me. For dessert we got the hazelnut torta. The gelato was really good and the cake was more crispy than soft but tasted good too. I am considering recommending this restaurant to be visited by Gordon Ramsey! My goodness do they need his help. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and we decided to book dinner here for a special occasion. I enjoyed the outdoor seating area. The parking is a bit of a nightmare to be sure. The main problem is there is a paucity of flavor and proper cooking and plating. I am not trying to be polite, but I honestly thought momentarily that the meal was made the day before and they simply put it in the microwave for too short of time and then served it. I was really disappointed in the the food quality! I was really anticipating legitimate Italian food! Unfortunately, , it's American all the way- in Italy they would never serve deep fried calamari such as what was served at our table! Any Italian would be ashamed to serve such a thing as it was heavily breaded and very dry and soaked with oil. I have had far better calamari at a multitude of other places Including the Cheesecake Factory, Z Greeks, Aioli, Christos and Oregano's. This was the equivalent of some sad worse than truck stop version of calamari. In Italy calamari is ALWAYS gently sautéed with lemon juice and garlic and olive oil and plenty of salt. Any real Italian chef would be too ashamed to cater to the segment of Americans who love everything that's deep fried. There is a reason why I would never eat at Denny's or IHOP. Let me tell you I was chagrined to say the least to discover that North serves up the same sort of fodder. To be frank, one could not ascertain what was inside the thick breading there were so little of the inside (supposedly calamari) and so much of the hard stale cold dried out oily breading. I can only imagine that they must've made this a day or two before and then just simply heated it up on some oil. It is not very good quality cooking that's for sure! I really hope the manager of this restaurant or perhaps the owner reads this review and does a surprise sampling of this item on the menu which should be removed as soon as possible. We were all fairly hungry as we anticipated a delicious dinner and we all took leftovers home to give to the dog because it was really not that flavorful or good. It's the sort of food that people at an assisted living facility or middle America might get: flavorless, bland and basic. I cannot even call it comfort food because it wasn't that good. I can cook way better at home! Everyone at my table agreed that my homemade pasta sauce (which I can make rather quickly) and added to some fresh pasta from Trader Joe's with me, adding sautéed garlic and lemon tastes FAR superior to the dishes that arrived at our table! My daughter had the tortellini and there were several that were undercooked. It was so hard it was not el dente. My Lumache dish was the second item on the pasta menu and it also was undercooked and lukewarm. I do not enjoy having food served to me lukewarm. I don't understand why anyone would go here and pay the current plate prices like this when it doesn't even taste that great. Oreganos and Grimaldi beats this place hands down in terms of flavor, the food is proper temperature and I've never had raw pasta served there. Every pasta dish we ordered was lacking in flavor and very bland. It's almost like they're unaware of the fragrant herbs that typically are used in Italian cooking from garlic to oregano and basil in substantial quantities. There's a real absence of these things even though they're listed in the ingredients on the menu!,. I consider Oregano's to be a fairly basic chain restaurant however, the flavor and the food at oregano's far exceeds the flavor at North. I would put the flavor and quality of the food at North as slightly better than Olive Garden (a place I do not frequent). The only item that we ordered that was decent was the appetizer of meatballs with the ricotta, Although it was definitely lacking in salt. I do not think that we will return anytime soon when there are so many other superior options available, I was really disappointed because I've heard so many good things about this place over the years, but I can only presume that the quality has gone downhill or else the people that were raving about it are completely unfamiliar with real Italian food. I've traveled to Italy a few times and I know what good Italian food tastes like and this is definitely not it. I'd rather go to True Food or Blancos down the street where at least I know I will get something that tastes predictably good and is made with nutritious ingredients. The spicy vodka rigatoni is great! The meatballs aren't necessarily my favorite but they are good; the Caesar salad however is difficult to eat imo. I recommend checking out their cocktails as well. Ok I'll admit I've not been here in person and with covid my expectations are a bit lower, but decent food with hopefully some simple fixes to hit the extra star or two. Second order with similar results. Pasta was a little bland, no spice/herbs in this dish and the culprit is herbs and cheese a few key ingredients for Italian 101. Sauce was almost watery which a Korr pack with adding water has more flavor. Add some herbs and don't water what sauce you have to down to almost water. If you need to charge more do so and not risk your rep. Also who hasn't been to an Italian restaurant and asked for cheese on their pasta, offer it as a side if you can't add it to sauce. I've sampled every single meal at one or the other of the 3 locations in the metro phoenix area including the black ink squid pasta dish, which to my surprise, was delicious. This is a go to restaurant and staple for me whether it be brunch, lunch, dinner, or anything in between. The ambience of this restaurant is superb no matter where you sit. The service is nice and friendly. For drinks I had a ginger blossom margarita which fulfilled all my expectations and my friend had the Sicilian margarita which he enjoyed as well! I also tried two red wines and both were good I recommend going with the Massi. We started off with the garlic truffle bread then had the pig pizza and the bolognese. The bread and pizza were delicious but the bolognese tasted like Chef Boyardee ravioli which was a huge bummer. Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Got here shortly after opening at 10a. Didn't have a reservation but we're able to be seated immediately. The place was filling up pretty quickly by about 1030ish. Overall, food was good. Nothing spectacular but it was consistently good. Items we ordered included: the scramble, their omelet, tenderloin & eggs. All tasty and well presented with decent portions. Egg dishes came with grilled bread but no butter either on the bread or as an accompaniment (it's brunch...there's toasted bread...give me some butter). The service itself fell flat. Overall it was perfunctory but not great. We were approached by one server to ask about our drink order. He asked two out of the four of us and then left...it was super weird. Our main server was friendly and patient. He even admitted he hadn't worked a brunch shift in ages at North so wasn't too informed on the dishes. We were one of the first tables to place our orders but noticed it took quite a while to get our coffees out and even longer to get our food. After the server came to check on us one of us asked for hot sauce and they took another 15 minutes to get to us, albeit with apologies for the tardiness. Overall, food was good, service was ok-ish. I'll give it another go for brunch to see how it goes. Perhaps this was just an off day, or they were super busy with not enough staff - who knows. Came here with my handsome husband and friends before the Jo Koy comedy show. We had reservations made and when we arrived we were seated right away. If you haven't been to this location, parking is pretty much mandatory. Don't worry it's complimentary, just be kind and leave the valet guys a couple bucks when you leave. The vibe is SO different than the Kierland Commons location. This location is way more hip, way louder and the energy is much better. They have gender neutral bathrooms which is awesome too. ******SERVERS*****MANAGEMENT**** If you know it's happy hour, tell your customers! Our server didn't tell us it was happy hour, it wasn't until we overheard him answer the couple next to us about the happy hour they were having. It was now 3 minutes after 6 and we asked him about getting a HH menu. He said he would still honor the prices but what he should have done was told us AND given us the HH menu the moment we sat down. Anyway, we got the zucca chips that was on the HH menu and we also go the mussels not on the HH menu and both were spectacular. For dinner, my husband and I ordered and shared a Cesar salad, awesome dressing and the croutons were to die for. For dinner, husband and I shared the Short Rib Radiatori. Pasta with Parmesan cream, fresh horseradish, wilted arugula, herbed breadcrumbs. It was freaking out of this world. Came here this past Friday for a friend birthday. Overall had a good experience but a few reasons why I held back stars. 1. The parking is a mess. I hate places that have forced parking and even worst is when it's faster to walk to your car since you can see it from the entrance. I also get the idea of the service but optional valet is much better. I'll walk and park my own car - I don't personally like people driving my car. 2. The food is rather meh in my opinion and it's also not cheap. I feel like there are many places in the valley with better food for an elevated cost. It's just right up the middle for me. Not great and not horrible but the price I can't justify. Now on to the good things! We were a large group and the waiter took great care of us. We were also there for a long time and at no point did we feel rushed. He also took great care of the checks and kept all the couple paid up and kept the check straight. The food is always very good. Ambiance is great for a date night! We started off with the White Truffle Garlic Bread. I give it an 8/10. It had a good amount of cheese & I was a fan of the spread. My favorite pizza is the Cacio E Pepe. It's flavorful & creamy. The Caesar Salad was a pretty good portion which was nice! Also very tasty. For drinks I would recommend the Sicilian Margarita & the espresso martini. The Sicilian Margarita is not only easy on the eyes but easy on the tastebuds as well! You can really appreciate the flavor of the reposado without it kicking you in the face. As for the espresso martini, it was so flavorful. They do have an espresso machine in house which makes the drink taste fresh & perfect every time. Service here is okay. We've came in different days & times & any time we've been sat at a table the service is consistently subpar. The servers seem to be passive and not very attentive to younger guests. We sat at the bar once & was served by what seemed to be the bar manager. We didn't get to catch her name but she has been a friendly face every time we've visited. This by far is the best bolognese I've ever tasted! Like it's perfection. The noodles taste as if they're freshly made and the meat sauce is perfectly seasoned. I purchased it as a takeout option and it was still hot and fresh. My husband also got the chicken pesto pasta that was pretty tasty as well. OMG and the grilled bread with the "good olive oil. *mouthwatering* like I get why they call it good olive oil, it was sweet and paired well with the smoky char on the fluffy/crusty sourdough bread. Located in Arcadia off the southeast corner of Camelback and 40th Street just behind the U-Haul, North Italia has a cute, rustic-modern vibe that is perfect for a casual yet upscale dinner. There were a lot of couples and smaller parties, so this definitely seemed to be a great spot for a date. Being vegan and gluten free, there weren't a ton of options which was a bit disappointing. I opted for the seasonal vegetable salad (butternut squash, brussels sprout, cauliflower, kale, radicchio, pistachio, date, white balsamic vinaigrette) but the dressing unfortunately had honey and was therefore not vegan. I also opted to remove the farro (gluten) and pecorino cheese. The salad was good, but wasn't great...the kale was pretty bitter and the dates that would have added some much needed sweetness seemed to be almost non-existent. I'm not sure I would order it again. My fiancé had the pig pizza on gluten free crust and said it was pretty good, but there are better options for gluten free pizza (this crust was too thin and crispy). For $18.50, the price also was pretty steep. Because the farmhouse chic ambiance is quite charming we likely will be back, although we may opt for happy hour next time since the prices for that you get are pretty steep during dinner. At over $65 for a pizza, salad, and two glasses of wine, North Italia isn't a realistic option for everyday dining out. read more

Well....this used to be one of my favorite places, but it seems to have suffered a bit. During our most recent visit we ordered the calamari appetizer (very little calamari and a lot of arugula). The fried pieces of calamari were a bit soggy as well. The entrees we ordered were Tuscan 1/2 chicken (but it wasn't really a half, more like a flattened out small breast and a thigh) and the squid ink pasta. The Tuscan chicken was dry, and there was no zucchini in the mixed vegetables served with the chicken. Zucchini is listed as an ingredient, but I think they replaced it with lots and lots of sliced garlic, see photo below. The garlic was very overpowering, as it was not really cooked thoroughly enough to temper the strong flavor and the sheer volume of it. This entree needs a redo or at least the description on the menu should be changed so people are forewarned. The squid ink pasta was very good, spicy with a fair amount of squid in the dish. A very nice young lady waited on us and checked in frequently to make sure we were enjoying our meal and was very prompt refilling drinks. Restaurant Manager was very visible helping out throughout the restaurant running food and assisting with to-go orders. Note: Try to avoid coming during DoorDash rush hours (6pm-8pm). DoorDashers check in with the hostess who in turn gets the order from the kitchen and delivers it to the driver. We had 3 DoorDashers in front of us when we arrived, and it took a bit for hostess to process them. And there were 2 others waiting on food that wasn't ready yet. This made for a very crowded hostess reception area. Restaurant was maybe 65% full but it's the first time we've not gotten our first course within 10-15 min. It was closer to 20-25 min. Server apologized for the long wait. Their prolific take-out business has definitely slowed down the dine in kitchen to table times. read more

You should always ask your customers is everything is good. I could tell his service was catered to whether we were going to tip or not. I normally always give 20 percent or above but not this time. Wow the food at North Italia is absolutely outstanding. My absolute favorite meal there is a simple salad, margarita Pizza with the most delightful and delicious bomba sauce to dip the pizza into--amazing. The wait staff is so responsive and friendly. I think our water and soda glasses were never empty. And there were multiple staff members who would check on us too--truly a team effort to ensure we had a wonderful visit. And their patio is pet friendly which is an added bonus for well behaved dogs. 5 stars all around. read more

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurant in Phoenix! I would highly recommend the chicken Parmesan and the Funghi pizza. The parking is valet and there's signs all over where you can't just park across the street. The environment is super casual, loud, and ton of activity.
