Nori is a Sushi bar/restaurant in the heart of Old Saybrook. Offering an excellent interior decor, wonderfully friendly staff and of course high quality fresh Sushi. Coming in for lunch I was kindly greeted and sat by a server immediately. Inside is a wonderful design blending modern and traditional feeling within an extremely cleanly atmosphere. The menu features some unique fusion dishes along with M/P Sushi specials such as Shima Aji, Kinmedai, Ōtoro, CA Uni, A5 Wagu and more. I ordered a Hot Green Tea, 16pcs Sashimi Dinner, Kinmedai, Shima Aji, Uni and Ōtoro Nigiri. As well as a Sashimi of the Ōtoro and a Uni Handroll. The Sashimi was excellently fresh, cut into proper thick slices and all displaying wonderful colors and texture. Large Santa Monica Uni, melt in your mouth Ōtoro, perfect moist Sushi rice, crisp Nori paper and sweet pickled ginger left little to none to complain about. Some of the friendliest staff and Sushi chef I've met it was a wonderful experience. The only negative I could possibly draw would be the prices are a bit higher than most "Sushi restaurants" but the quality of the food and the experience was far superior. Overall 8.9/10 excellent food and service, on my list to come back during dinner hours to try the Omakase. read more

Caught happy hour at Nori to try various items. First time but not the last! We had the spicy edamame & that is a must for everyone! Roasted garlic, onion, spice and a hint of smokiness that suggests it was perhaps on a grill. Do not miss this one! The avocado salad is a generous portion of avocado, sliced delicately thin, and fanned out over mixed greens. It was a nice compliment to the spicy items we had. The tempura sea bass is very lightly battered but oh so crisp, no trace of oil, and enough seasoning to complement, yet not overwhelm, the fish. The dipping sauce is unnecessary but was appreciated. Pork gyoza has a nice sear outside with plenty of filling inside and a tasty sauce. The only roll we had was the spicy tuna. It was tender and mildly spiced. The soothing atmosphere and attentive service elevate the experience. Our amiable server didn't crowd us but didn't leave us waiting either. We appreciated that fine balance. read more

We went here on Mother's Day and it was an amazing experience. I got a complementary glass of Prosecco to start. The wait staff was most attentive. The food arrived quickly and was ample and really fresh. We had sashimi and duck. The way the restaurant was set up felt curated and every table had plenty of space. Some were private booths and it felt like a cocoon. The drinks were also yummy. You won't regret a visit here. read more

Self proclaimed "Shoreline's best Japanese restaurant". Says it on their website. My grandmother always said eat humble pie and avoid putting a bullseye on your back. I guess they like inviting high expectations. To be fair it's old saybrook, not much competition, but Massa in Clinton far exceeds Nori and at much better ambience and pricing. Nori does have a cool vibe and love their spicy edamamme and spicy tuna dumplings. Poke bowl is a hit too. Always thought it was weird to have new american or french entrees on their menu like the Duck. Can get very loud when crowded. read more

We had a large party at Nori to celebrate a special event. I knew the food was going to be good but the service this team showed was above and beyond. I wanted to preplan most of the menu to try and keep things organized the night of and Myeerah was exceptional to work with. She was accommodating and gave several recommendations on food choices and serving sizes for our party. The night of was so perfect. Every aspect from the food, timing, drinks, servers, and service was so well done. All of the food was amazing but the sashimi was the biggest highlight. My family kept ordering extra! This is the most expensive sushi restaurant I have ever been to. It is a whopping $24 for one special roll. I was in shock. The sushi was good but not worth $24, I had just a classic salmon/avocado roll that was $12/roll and tasted the same as I would've spent at any other sushi restaurant for way cheaper. Our fault for not checking the prices before we sat down. We left there with holes in our pockets and still hungry. read more

I ordered Filet Mignon. The waitress said that they were substituting steak tips. The steak tips were grizzly and tough. Not at all what I expected in quality and taste. The mashed potatoes had a strange flavor. The tiny little salad was drenched with dressing so that it was wilted. Now about the decorations inside the restaurant when coming into the restaurant and going into the bathroom area, they have two panels of cloth hanging across the entryways to about 3 feet off the floor you have to push the side and then they flop back in your face. when walking with a cane, you need to have a safe place and I believe these panels obstructing the ways to get in to the restaurant is a safety factor that needs to be replaced. Perhaps the panels could be hung next to the doorway, but not obstructing the doorway. I will never go to this restaurant again. read more

I highly recommend checking out Nori on Main Street. It is a French inspired Japanese restaurant which opened less then a year ago. The ambiance is cozy & bougie, the food is outstandingly fresh & service very friendly and welcoming. Nori also has well thought out drinks menu - great wine & beer selection along with delicious handcrafted cocktails. I've been to quite a few Sushi & Japanese restaurants in the country & overseas and I must say Nori is on my top list. High recommend checking this place out! read more

Not too much to say that has not already been said in these pages. Very pleasant environment and I ordered only a soup and one of the eight piece small rolls and it was more than enough. My wife ordered one of the large rolls which was very filling. It was a noisy party, but what can you say when someone has a birthday! Nori might just be the best restaurant in Old Saybrook! We came here twice this summer and if we lived a little closer I'd probably at least order out weekly. The atmosphere is a good blend of open and lively areas with more quiet intimate booths available as well. The food is amazing. The crispy tuna appetizer might be the best app in all of southeastern CT and I'm not exaggerating. If you're with a party of 4- get 2 orders of them because there's no way you'll each want just one! The spicy edamame... Amazing. It's perfect. Not so spicy that it ruins the rest of your meal because your mouth is on fire. It's the perfect kick that you quickly recover from to enjoy the rest of your dinner. The Angel Hair roll; the Beach Roll, the Surf and Turf roll- all delicious. The Short rib special was great too. The drinks from the bar were well made. The service was excellent here as well. Our server was fun and outgoing. When she brought over the spicy edamame and took the cover off as she put it down she said "I'm so jealous right now." My wife and I insisted she have one. She hesitated and then realized we were totally serious and she very carefully took one that was sort of sticking up so as not to make contact with any of the others. We wouldn't have cared! The service here was good and it felt very chill for a Friday night. So it was a relaxing dinner. The tempura seas bass was very good with some spicy sauce. The yellowtail sushi was more like sashimi on a salad. The wagyu lollipop was pretty good. And I got the chicken yaki udon. The chicken was ok and the udon was good. For dessert I got the mocho ice cream and it was delicious. You can get strawberry, vanilla and matcha. The menu does have American food which threw me off for entrees. They have available poke bowls and sushi. Overall the food and experience were good. It's just difficult for me because I have been to Japan. Good food if you never eaten Japanese food. read more

My niece and I came here on a Monday around 7:30 pm. We did not have reservations- so def would recommend even if dining on a weeknight. We were seated in one of a row of lovely little 4 top private booths. Loved the aesthetic inside - felt very much like an upscale Japanese sushi bar in Tokyo. It was pretty quiet ambiance but lovely & relaxing. Most all the other 10 tables were full. it's a lovely little intimate restaurant. Very clean & minimal Japanese aesthetic. We were seated quickly & given menus by the hostess. The waitperson came over and greeted us within a few minutes & took our drink order. I went with a Kirin Ichiban beer which I love. We decided on an appetizer of the spicy edamame & I ordered the lovers roll without the mango sauce. She ordered the roll. About five mins later, our waitress brought our spicy edamame which was steamed & then lightly wok fried in garlic chili sauce. It was delicious. About 15 mins later, we got our rolls. WOW! My sushi roll was divine. I was shocked at how mouthwatering it was. The avocado was like butter: super creamy & perfectly ripe. The peppered tuna juxtaposed with the mango was fantastic. Not sweet but perfectly balanced. My niece had the same sentiment about her sushi roll. It was delicious. The portions of the 8 piece roll was ample too so you didn't walk away starving. I have been coming to Nori since it opened. The food is fresh and fabulous. If you are a sushi or sashimi lover this is the place for you. If you are a fan of a blend of flavors and spices then this is the place for you as well! The duck rolls are to die for. Mark the chef created special dishes for my friend and I today for lunch. Lamb chops with a wonderful medley of peppers and onions in a delicate sauce. Did not disappoint!! She had duck breast that melted in her mouth. The service is always fantastic. I will first say that the food was absolutely delicious. Super fresh, came very quickly, and beautiful presentation. We had the yellowtail jalapeño and gyoza appetizers which were both very good. We then shared two regular rolls and two special rolls rolls for dinner and had the "conched out" drink for two, and again it was very tasty. We moved into this area over 3 years ago and have struggled to find a good sushi place. We previously lived in Glastonbury, which had, in my opinion, the best sushi restaurant in the greater Hartford area, and I could not find a place down by the Shoreline that was comparable. This place is it! That said, the sushi is pricey. The special rolls are all over $20 each. Our "old" favorite restaurant back in Glastonbury has the same sushi rolls with equal freshness and deliciousness, and they were much less expensive. So, this place unfortunately cannot be in the regular rotation for us due to the cost, but it is definitely a special treat outing! read more

Fish is mealy and seems was frozen, cut crudely and smothered in sauces which is an age old technique to hide the off putting flavor of not so fresh fish. Uni was slimey and clearly too old to serve. Wagyu overcooked and smothered in sauce. Very limited and poorly chosen wine and sake list . Sat at sushi bar and sushi chef never said a word to anyone at the bar. No eye contact not even a hello or greeting when seated. Bar drinks watered down and poorly made. Deserts clumsy and dressed with Redi-whip. A disappointing meal and poor quality at any price but in the end for 3 people the bill (including drinks but before gratuity ) was $450 which is twice what it should be for the quality of the food. read more

What I can only describe as average sushi for a very high price. The exterior is just painted black with the Nori logo.. very easy to miss or just walk by without noticing. The interior is very nice and clean. I tried the Nori salad as an appetizer.. and that was the best of what I had. A couple small pieces of salmon and tuna, with seaweed salad and avocado. Very enjoyable. I then had the spicy tuna roll, which I found to be not spicy and small. I then tried one of their special rolls.. the Nori Roll. I also found this to be small for a 'special' roll, and just average in flavor. I also had a tea. I think the total price was around $75. It was just not worth the price. I've paid much less for far better sushi elsewhere. I don't think I'll be vistiing Nori again. read more

I'd love to review the sushi, but I never got to taste any. Our party of 4 arrived precisely at 7:30 for our reservation. Hostess tells us we need to wait while table is prepared. Then she stands at her podium thumbing her phone. Some time later, she leads us inside, where there are several empty tables. Our table has been "prepared" with a solitary bottle of soy sauce. That's what we were waiting for? Waitress takes our drink orders - 2 beers. A while later, a different server asks if we'd like drinks. Then original waitress brings beers and takes our food order. 30 minutes later, we haven't seen the waitress or ANY food. We leave $ on the table for drinks and exit. The place was far from busy. Fabulous addition to shoreline dining! We really enjoyed the high quality sushi. It was pricy but so fresh and very large serving. We were greeted and seated immediately and well taken care of by our server as well as the hostess and other staff.
