Great ambiance as you walk in by the waterfall. Three rooms depending upon the vibe you're looking for; dressy dining area, casual bar, or cozy informal den. We chose the latter in a corner window right by the falls. The service was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, to helping us find our seat, to our server helping us with the menu, to the manager coming over and talking with us to make sure everything was ok. I liked how the server first checked to see if we had any time restraints along with food allergies, etc. Speaking of the food. We started with the clam chowder and scallops. The chowder was the best I've ever had. Plenty of meat and seasoned perfectly. The scallops were amazing. The manager later told us that the scallops were the only thing that had been on the menu since day one. They tried to rotate them off once and the people went nuts. We moved on to the duck and salmon. Both were delicious. Sides were perfect as well. I'd love to write about dessert, but unfortunately, we were stuffed. I give it one star as we have gone here around a total of four or five times. Each is terrible for one reason or other. We would not have returned except for a gift certificate. This time, the waiters are very poorly trained not that I need perfect service For instance just when you are almost done with your soup do they come with pepper which I would have wanted from the start. They went to remove my drink when I had 3/4 inch left. My wife's risotto was really dry and overall tasteless. My burger as I was afraid to order seafood as they really messed that up in the past was soggy and really foul tasting. Not sure how you can ever mess up a burger. The location overlooking the river is nice, so many more better places around. read more

This was our first visit since the new owners took over during COVID, and we were blown away. They've completely revamped the parking lot--no more ruts, just smooth paving--and the setting is gorgeous, especially with a beautiful waterfall as a backdrop. Aaron, who I believe is the manager or co-owner, was so welcoming--he came by twice to check on us, since we were celebrating our anniversary. I had the salmon, which was outstanding, and Dean had the strip steak--both were incredible. And for the first time, we tried the tri-colored carrots--absolutely phenomenal. We finished with a delicious raspberry cheesecake, and it was absolutely the perfect sweet end. We can't wait to return! read more

We all can't stop talking about what a great experience we had at Brushmill this weekend. We made reservations for our birthday dinner before going to see a show at the Ivoryton Playhouse on a Saturday night, and had a great time all around! I can't say enough about their outstanding service. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday when we made the reservation, and found a birthday card on our table once we were seated that was signed by their entire team. I mean, who does that! It was such an unexpected surprise. Our server, Olivia (Liv), was so kind and attentive (as was everyone on their team). Everything we ordered was delicious and the prices were reasonable as well. The only thing I will mention is that their food is all made from scratch and does take a bit more time than usual to come out. Liv made sure to tell us this, and we did not mind at all, but just make sure to give yourself a little extra time when booking a reservation. We have not experienced excellent service at this level at a restaurant in a very long time. We absolutely will be back again soon. Thanks for an amazing birthday dinner! read more

I attended a retirement seminar there. The staff was very friendly and well trained at serving customers. The food was fresh- salmon tender and the vegetables were all fresh roasted with light cream sauce on base of the plate. They served Fiji water by a waiter to each person there. The Brushmill burger is excellent! It was plenty big, loaded with bacon, carmelized onions and more-so many delicious flavors in every bite. The fries were very crispy. The service was very good too. This is a great place to stop with friends if you are getting a drink, eating a quick bite or want a more lavish dinner, all in a tavern like setting. We ate in the seating area off the bar so the menu was limited, but that was our preference. read more

Wonderful experience and food! My husband surprised me with our (27th) anniversary lunch at Brushmill. Such a unique, beautiful setting and converted mill. Our wait staff was very attentive (without being overbearing), and our water glasses were constantly filled (which was great, because I drink a lot of water). My coffee martini was excellent and my husband had a pomegranate and grapefruit cocktail, that he really liked. For our main courses, I had the homemade pasta with brown butter, baby brussel sprouts, and roasted hazelnuts. I was on the fence about ordering it, but it was amazing, one of the best & creative pasta dishes I've ever eaten! My husband had the steak with steak fries, and he said it was very flavorful and cooked medium rare just like he ordered. The homemade bread and herb butter that came with our meal was yummy! The only drawback was our dessert. We split the apple cake with caramel cider. Although the flavor was good, there weren't pieces of apple in it, and it was rather dry. This place was amazing from start to finish. We were treated with such hospitality by every single staff person but especially by our server, Lamott! Everything we ate was flavorful, fresh and made to order. The stand outs included the scallop appetizer (small plate) and the pistachio crème brûlée (dessert). Really there wasn't one dish we didn't like. It was my birthday and the restaurant went out of their way by comping one dessert and even giving me a birthday card. A small group of friends met at your establishment for dinner on May 22nd 2025. I was cautioned that the menu was pricey, but may be worth the investment. I was very disappointed. We had a reservation for 6pm and we​ were seated promptly. The restaurant was about half full at this time. We ordered drink and appetizers. Salads and chowder. The food was just ok. Nothing spectacular, as the menu suggests. After ordering our main course, we waited 1 hour to receive our food. Again, it was just ok. My charcuterie tray was laughable. It was not even close to what your photos show. Overall, I would say the visit was a 1 out of 10. The best part of our service were the bus boys, who were friendly and accommodating. Our server was not. I will not return here and will divert others to a better experience. Update: I called, as was asked. 8 days later and no call back. Great customer service. Once again. Waiter suggested duck-a new addition in the last 3 weeks. 1st one a leg with 50% fat and dry meat on the bone. 2nd one no better-waiter says "I was able to get a dessert comped for your troubles". Check comes and $43 charged for duck. Both were not edible but still had to pay for one. Never saw any sign of a manager. Went down to bar and had an after dinner drink. Host said he heard about our meal and not how he would have handled it. Totally disappointed in our experience-yet no one available to make it right. Been coming here since the late 80's. Obviously spent a ton of money on the refurb but doesn't come close to the old chart house days for menu options or quality of food. A definite disappointment. read more

Staff: very friendly and eager to help out yet not overly frequent to the table which was perfect for conversation and flow of the evening. Food: the combination of food is what caused the minus one star. Starting with the cheese board it was just a very odd pairing, example...a greasy fried sugar bread and candied yet chewy walnuts...felt like they were left overs from the texture. They just didn't go with the cheese pairings. The bread pudding (not a dessert)! I had high hopes for as I love it, left me a little underwhelmed. The peas were just thrown on top (not in it) like days of old when chefs would throw parsley on a dish. The ribeye was cooked perfectly! Their steak knifes are dated, wish I had a sharpening tool. Price: for the area, I must say it was a little pricey, dinner for 2 without alcohol was close to two hundred. We were there at prime time on a Friday evening and the dining room was less than half full, outside patio had a fair crowd and indoor bar was empty. Overall: I'd go back once the menu is updated for a nice evening out or to try the patio area but be cautious of the cost. Wine list is great though a bit overpriced like everything else. read more

I recently went with a group of friends for a birthday dinner. I have been here before and had a great experience. However, our last experience was terrible. Service was extremely slow and our waitress almost seemed to forget that our table was even there. We waited a very long time for drinks. Our scallops and chicken wings too a very long time to come out, and to be honest, we think she forgot to order them. The rest of our dinner came in a timely manner, however, it was lackluster to say the least, except our creme brulee, which was delicious. The crux of th issue is, the bottle of wine we ordered. I ordered a $50 bottle of pinot noir. However, I didn't realize until after we got the bill that we had received the wrong bottle. The spelling of the wine was 1-2 letters off and sounded very similar. However, the price difference was about $140. I understand that I accepted the bottle and was not asking for it be removed from our tab. The manager and the owner handled the discrepancy in the most despicable way. They treated us as if we were less than and were extremely disrespectful. They refused to acknowledge that the waitress had made an error and told me it was my fault. The table next to us voiced their distain for how they manager and owner were speaking us and they basically told them it as none of their business. I have NEVER been treated like that at restaurant before. We were treated almost as if we didn't belong there. When I told him that we won't be back there, the owner's response to me was "good". I hope that anyone going here never receives this type of treatment, not that I would recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. read more

We celebrated our anniversary at the Brushmill, first time there and it was wonderful. We were made to feel welcome and seated in the informal dining room by the waterfall. The setting is rustic and historical. The staff was so welcoming and attentive. We had a card at our table wishing us a happy anniversary signed by all the staff! Complimentary Prosecco and focaccia were added to our dinner. I had the salad with salmon and he had steak frites, both absolutely delicious. I've been coming to this venue my whole life. The "new" owners have done a great job with the building. And that's where the kudos end. Overpriced, over fancy and overly snooty for the area. This was our 4th year hosting a holiday event. It just gets more disappointing! Usually it's the food that sucks! This year it's the organization and staff (except Jared, he's GREAT). Since we were "too loud" in prior years they moved us to a "private section ". Through our cocktail hour we used the bar on the first floor. Shortly after our official event started they opened the bar in the room to the public. While we were trying to run our event the bar in our space became overwhelmingly loud. I'm not saying our group was right to hush them (wanted to die) but, the bartender decided to be a passive aggressive baby and be SUPER loud. It was SO unprofessional and unnecessary! F this overpriced place. I will not spend a penny here in my individual life . Such shite service and overpriced "food". Bring back the good vibes! read more

We were blown away - both the service and the quality of the food were beyond reproach. Our server, Ethan, was absolutely terrific; he was attentive, knowledgeable, and extremely affable. The food was superb: we started with the scallops as an appetizer and they were melt-in-your mouth tender. They have a dedicated gluten free menu and they had gluten-free coconut shrimp that were to die for. They do a great job of attending to details. I didn't think this venue needed a reno but the new owners apparently revamped it. I didn't go upstairs or into the dining room this time, so can only speak to the bar and patio. The footprint seems to be the same-low ceilings, historical touches, and cozy vibes. I really appreciated the tavern feel but wish the menu reflected it. The dinner menu feels a little fussy for what I think is ultimately a charming little bar. While they have a nice list of burgers, I'd like to see more hand helds and tavern-y type food. Again, it felt it a little fussy. My salmon was cooked perfectly but I was underwhelmed by the sides: farro and a very garlicky kale. My friend's burger was fine: cooked to his liking with a side of salty fries. Prices are a little spendy. We'll be back but probably just for simple drinks and maaaaaybe an appetizer or two. The Gluten free bread appetizer delicious and choices of food that were very accommodating to everyone at the table. We lived for 20 years in Middletown and this was our first time here. This place was great. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner, everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was fantastic. Every server and member of the waitstaff was attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu. The owner brought us a champagne toast to celebrate our anniversary and was talking to us about the history of the building and community. The food was really great. I really appreciate the attention to detail and the efforts by the owner to keep elements of the original brush mill factory intact.
