Nori is a Sushi bar/restaurant in the heart of Old Saybrook. Offering an excellent interior decor, wonderfully friendly staff and of course high quality fresh Sushi. Coming in for lunch I was kindly greeted and sat by a server immediately. Inside is a wonderful design blending modern and traditional feeling within an extremely cleanly atmosphere. The menu features some unique fusion dishes along with M/P Sushi specials such as Shima Aji, Kinmedai, Ōtoro, CA Uni, A5 Wagu and more. I ordered a Hot Green Tea, 16pcs Sashimi Dinner, Kinmedai, Shima Aji, Uni and Ōtoro Nigiri. As well as a Sashimi of the Ōtoro and a Uni Handroll. The Sashimi was excellently fresh, cut into proper thick slices and all displaying wonderful colors and texture. Large Santa Monica Uni, melt in your mouth Ōtoro, perfect moist Sushi rice, crisp Nori paper and sweet pickled ginger left little to none to complain about. Some of the friendliest staff and Sushi chef I've met it was a wonderful experience. The only negative I could possibly draw would be the prices are a bit higher than most "Sushi restaurants" but the quality of the food and the experience was far superior. Overall 8.9/10 excellent food and service, on my list to come back during dinner hours to try the Omakase.

This is the Beach Roll. Absolutely delish. The happy hour menu was amazing ($6.00 wine) and Stephanie the waitress was very attentive!

What a spot. We came at 4 and ate off the happy hour menu. Def try the spicy edamame, the spicy tuna dumpling and the fried sea bass bites! All so good! I would show more pics but we ate it too fast!

We had a large party at Nori to celebrate a special event. I knew the food was going to be good but the service this team showed was above and beyond. I wanted to preplan most of the menu to try and keep things organized the night of and Myeerah was exceptional to work with. She was accommodating and gave several recommendations on food choices and serving sizes for our party. The night of was so perfect. Every aspect from the food, timing, drinks, servers, and service was so well done. All of the food was amazing but the sashimi was the biggest highlight. My family kept ordering extra! Thank you so much to the Nori team for making this a special night!

Cozy little spot in old saybrook I truly did not expect it to be all that great but it indeed was. Perfect type of dine in place for a date night. The food and service was on point. Will be back.

This is the most expensive sushi restaurant I have ever been to. It is a whopping $24 for one special roll. I was in shock. The sushi was good but not worth $24, I had just a classic salmon/avocado roll that was $12/roll and tasted the same as I would've spent at any other sushi restaurant for way cheaper. Our fault for not checking the prices before we sat down. We left there with holes in our pockets and still hungry.

I highly recommend checking out Nori on Main Street. It is a French inspired Japanese restaurant which opened less then a year ago. The ambiance is cozy & bougie, the food is outstandingly fresh & service very friendly and welcoming. Nori also has well thought out drinks menu - great wine & beer selection along with delicious handcrafted cocktails. I've been to quite a few Sushi & Japanese restaurants in the country & overseas and I must say Nori is on my top list. High recommend checking this place out!

Nori in Old Saybrook was a perfect place to dine with clients. The service was great and the food was exceptional. Highly recommend for a great spot downtown. Perfect place to eat before a show at the Kate.

The food is amazing. The presentation was stunning and flavors just yummy. Our server was pleasantly attentive and kept our water glasses full. The ambiance is subtle and pleasing.

Such a cute little gem in Old Saybrook, fresh fish, loved our waitress, really cute ambiance we had the perfect table by the window. We ordered the edamame miso soup which was good but an overly large portion for a miso soup, definitely did not need to order 3 at the table. We also got the pork gyoza, crispy tuna, and six nigiri (scallop, king salmon, albacore tuna, sweet shrimp, otoro, and yellowfin). Everything was delicious.

The service here was good and it felt very chill for a Friday night. So it was a relaxing dinner. The tempura seas bass was very good with some spicy sauce. The yellowtail sushi was more like sashimi on a salad. The wagyu lollipop was pretty good. And I got the chicken yaki udon. The chicken was ok and the udon was good. For dessert I got the mocho ice cream and it was delicious. You can get strawberry, vanilla and matcha. The menu does have American food which threw me off for entrees. They have available poke bowls and sushi. Overall the food and experience were good. It's just difficult for me because I have been to Japan. Good food if you never eaten Japanese food.

We made our first visit here several days ago, dropping in for a midday lunch on a pretty crowded…read moreSunday. With some good and some not-so good, we concluded that we aren't likely to return -- in spite of the really yummy tartar sauce (more on that in a moment). Penny Lane is a bit of an English Pub-style restaurant on two levels. We ate upstairs since the lower level was filled (steps, no elevator that we saw). Service was slow to nonexistent. It took us ten minutes to get recognized by a server who asked if we wanted something to drink and took another five minutes to get it. After we ordered we waited 25 minutes to get our food. We got no drink refills. Maybe service is better in the first floor? Ah, the food. Fish and Chips is essentially pub food, so that's what we got. The crust was light and buttery, quite good. The fish was utterly without any sort of flavor, as bland as could be imagined in your worst imagining. The tartar sauce was super good, but it just couldn't disguise the fact that the fish was tasteless. We also tried the poached egg and corned beef hash, which was ok though the hash was kind ... well, and of a hash, unremarkable at best. Conclusion: There was little that was appealing in our experience. Oh yeah, another ten minutes to get our bill... a long afternoon.

The bar seating was full, but we got right in upstairs at a cozy larger dining room. Service was excellent, professional, and did a great job. The menu was attractive. Lots of different drinks, classic pub food, your typical burgers, and fish and chips kinda stuff. But also a lot of other goodies too. I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries. It tasted good, the brioche roll was very fresh. I could have been seasoned more. I wasn't wow'd by it, but it was good. Fries were average, but tasted ok. I think the pricing was reasonable. I would definitely give Penny Lane Pub another try. I'm guessing though in the summer this place is tough to get into, just the vibe I got.

They seemed understaffed and it was at least 10 minutes before anyone came over. Our server never introduced herself. (Later looking at the receipt, her name was Cate) She simply walked up with no greeting and just said "what are we drinking?" My wine pour was significantly less than my husband's, which was not a good start especially after having waited. We ordered small plates to start and I wish we stopped there. The seared tuna was great and had both an aioli and a spicy soy based sauce. My husband had the Kobe beef pot stickers and they were tasty, with a nice warm veggie medley in the middle of the plate. The pot stickers could have used a bit more sauce though. When it came time to order entrees, I was fully set on the lobster panini. The server advised me not to order that, and raved about the carbonara, so I ordered that instead. Big mistake. Huge! I wish she just let me order my panini. The carbonara was full of dark meat chicken (gross!!) that tasted gamey, and the sauce was broken. It clearly had too much butter and was not an authentic carbonara. I told our server multiple times that I did not like it. I had separated all the chicken in a pile and ate maybe 1/3 of the pasta. She strangely kept offering to make me the short rib pappardelle instead, which I declined, as I had no interest in that dish. I found it so odd that she picked out a specific dish to offer as a substitute. At least if she offered the lobster panini, it would have made sense since that's what I originally wanted to order, if not for her meddling in my order. My husband ordered a burger cooked medium. It was fully well done. The fries were limp and not crispy. Not a good showing. He wrapped his up to take home, but I did not. Clearly not eating 3/4 of the meal and also not taking it home was a sign of my discontent. I wish I took photo of my plate as I left it. I was pretty offended when she did not remove it from the bill. It's fine, we paid it, but that will be the first and last time we dine at Aspen. We paid our bill as charged, took the cost of my meal out of her tip, and called it a day. This is something I do not often do, but I felt warranted on this occasion, due to the poor food quality and her absolute indifference. We will not be back. Two stars only for the yummy small plates and the very very sweet hostess!!
