    5/28/2025: lobster Mac and cheese
    Valerie R.

We went to lunch on Marker 37 for my husband's birthday. It wasn't a perfectly sunny day, but it was warm and a really nice day to be outside. The patio ar Marker 37 is covered, and has a nice view of the river, and the boats coming in and out of the marinas. The food was great, but our service was very slow!! My husband asked for "2 more minutes" to review the menu to order, and our server didn't come back for probably 25 minutes. It was busy, but not that busy. She was checking in on her other tables and then walking away without coming over or making eye contact with us. It was so bad that we almost went back to the hostess to ask to move to a different server's section! But, she ultimately figured it out. The side salad portions were sizeable for $8. I got the Mediterranean summer salad, which was great and loaded with yummy toppings like hummus, artichokes, tabbouleh, feta, and Kalamata olives. My husband got a Caesar salad and was happy with it as well. My tuna tacos were tasty, two was a sufficient portion especially with the tortilla chips on the side. My husband's lobster Mac and cheese was large, the Mac and cheese was creamy and good, and a decent amount of lobster. I'm glad, since I later found out MP was $42 lol. It was worth it for what he got. We were going out again later, so didn't have dessert. We will definitely go back again to try more of their dishes. Definitely call to make a reservation as it was pretty busy even on a cloudy Wednesday at lunch. Once the nicer weather is here, I'm sure it will be packed every day.

Mixed feelings... I was so incredibly excited to try this place that had been on my list for a year. I was seated on the patio with INCREDIBLE views all around me at 6:15. And then waited...20 minutes.... Nobody had greeted me at my table so I got up and went to the hostess stand (which I feel is absurd but whatever) and kindly said I wanted to check in with her because nobody has stopped by our table and it's been 20 minutes. She said she'd take care of it so I went back to my seat. Shortly after someone stopped by and we said we'd like to start with water and the calamari for now. Calamari came out like 10 minutes later. Still no water on the table as I'm eating fried hot peppers with my calamari app. At this point I want to order a cocktail and food and our waitress is nowhere to be found. Finally around 7 (45 minutes after arrival) our waitress came back and asked if we wanted to order. I asked if there was a backup in the kitchen or what was going on because we still hadn't gotten even water at this point. I was told things were backed up and everyone had come at once. We didn't feel confident we'd get drinks or food anytime soon so I politely said we understand but I think we're going to grab the check. After another 15 minutes of waiting for the check (which never came) and she never came back, we left cash under a plate at 7:15 (an hour after we arrived) and walked out. I have never in 30 years just had to walk out of. a place. Luckily there's a whole downtown of restaurants that will serve you quickly in Chester. In summary I'd say views are spectacular, calamari was good. If they could get it together this would be a top tier, unmissable restaurant in CT.

Second time here to see if the first time was representative. Excellent short rib grilled cheese. Calamari is fresh and definitely not from Sysco! Service was prompt and personable. And the location is outstanding. Definitely on our short list of places to revisit.

TLDR; Beautiful location, great service, great cocktails, decent food. It was a nice day so we took a drive to find somewhere nice to grab a drink and some food. My friends and I had never heard of this spot but it checked the boxes for what we were looking for. They have a large outdoor seating area including some couch areas. Apparently these are a separate service from the regular tables. Because there were only two servers for the entire restaurant they said could not provide service for the area but we were welcome to sit there and order at the bar - so that's what we did. The house old fashioned is delicious! It has a nice oaky flavor and lasting cherry sweetness ( not too sweet! ). The bourbon smash was good too but the OF was better imo. We ordered calamari to snack on because we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. It was fine. Small portion, a little chewy and it seemed like it is not made fresh there. Ended up hanging at the bar and even tho the bartender (Alex) was swamped he still carried conversation with us, shared some laughs and made us feel welcome. Overall we had a great time. I can definitely see us coming back here to grab some drinks enjoy the views.

e was an adorable waitress and the fish and chips were literally the best my husband has ever had. It was a whole fish, very fresh and fried in a very tasty crust. You can't beat the outdoor patio with the view of the water and gentle breeze.Unfortunately the pork taco proved inedible . Besides being very fatty, the meat seemed to be sprouting hair! It was disgusting. The restaurant still gets 4 stars as they took the $18.00 off the bill and apologized profusely. I encourage people to come to this spot, but don't order the pork taco!

    Best chowda I've ever had!

This is a gem! Great food great service, amazing atmosphere. Sitting on the patio watching the CT river and all its activity flow by! Enjoy!

Are you sure?! Lobster time! Service was great. Food was delish. Good draft selection. Nice outside view of the (bay?) Lobster mac and cheese had alot of lobster chunks! Lobster roll also delish but a little on the small side. Fries were nothing special. Had a local draft in draft which was awesome! Ordered heinis bc the boys did and this trip is all about them. Glad we were able to sit out although it was t jungkook and jimins table

Staff was friendly, but unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The first time I went, I had a burger, and it was incredibly greasy. Husband had the lobster Mac and Cheese and said it was watery and not good. That was a while ago, so we tried to give it another chance last night and was disappointed again. The chicken sandwich I had was horrible. The sauce that was on it tasted like mustard and was terrible. I pretty much just ate part of the chicken alone, which had no flavor, and definitely nothing special. Family didn't like the pork belly tacos either. Lobster roll was good, and French fries were good. Probably won't be back.

I love this location. It's just so scenic and relaxing surrounded by water. The marinas are quiet now, with just an occasional boat puttering in. We were there on a warm autumn night with a full moon rising. It doesn't get any better than this for ambiance. Service both times I came, was excellent . So far Marker 37 hits the mark. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add some tasty vegetarian items to the menu. We ordered every vegetarian item on the menu. I ended up flavoring the pasta dish myself. We enjoyed our evening and will return.

Great patio overlooking the Connecticut River.

Great view, great service and excellent food. This gem is right on the Connecticut River and right next to a marina. Great views from the patio. For an appetizer I got the calamari. It's not easy to cook right. This was done perfectly. One of our table mates ordered a creative clam, corn and jalapeno chowder. The only negative about the food was the guacamole I had had turned and was not pleasant at all. Everything else was as near perfect as possible. PS our sever was enthusiastic about her menu recommendations. We will definitely go back.

The service was okay while the food came out in a timely manner. I liked that some of the fish items listed the fishing vessel on the menu. Three appetizers were ordered which consisted of a beet pickled deviled egg ($4 each), chilled oysters (Half Dozen $18), and the local fluke crudo ($17). The egg had a crispy clam strip and espelette pepper. This was solid. I thought the clam strip was a little too overpowerful given the size of that and the egg. The pickled beet egg was interesting, and I liked how the filling was also under the egg, so the egg did not move. The Riverhawk oysters were fresh and tasty. The mignonette was simple and paired well. The crudo had an herb mayo, pickled ramps, kelp crisp, and pickled sugar kelp. This was alright. It seemed like fennel or a similar type of herb was used in one of the pickling items, which took over a little bit. The kelp crisp was nice and paired well with the fluke. For an entrée, I had the local scup a la plancha ($37). It came with Marshall Cove mussels, fondant potato, English peas, and a saffron emulsion. This was a nice sized portion. I thought the saffron emulsion was key and went together with everything else on the plate. The mussels were fresh again, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. It was a well-done dish, but the use of scup made it feel more modest, but maybe that was the point, so what do I know? I also tried the scallop dish that came with green crab crispy rice, chili crispy, and a garlic aioli. The rice was very crispy, and it reminded me of a traditional hibachi rice, but elevated. The scallops had a perfect cook to them too. For dessert, the oyster ice cream ($10) was tried. It had to be tasted when it was on the menu. It had a slight briny flavor, but nothing too overpowerful. The ice cream itself was very creamy with a nice texture. I believe Greek yogurt was used, which probably helped with the oyster flavor that was incorporated. Will I go back? Sure.

The menu changes regularly to highlight the best of the season and local producers. Sometimes it's nice to eat delicious food with no blasting music, at reasonable prices (app/salads: $12-16, most entrees high 20's to $36) just hanging with happy well fed adults enjoying conversation. It would have been 5 stars but for the forgetting of complimentary bread service until we asked for it during the entrees. The bread was mediocre and chewy. It's definitely a little more expensive than some of the other lobster spots we tried, but I honestly liked the food here the most. So, since the Old Saybrook location closed, we set our sights on visiting the Niantic location, looking forward to what we missed so much. Sadly, this was one of the worst experiences we have had! Our order consisted of a kid's hot dog platter, an adult hot dog, side of onion rings, 2 small coleslaws and a side of clam strips. Let's begin with the hot dogs...Both the kids and adult hot dogs were the same size in different buns. The adult in a foot long bun and the kids in a regular bun. Again, same size hot dog inside. Moving on to the onion rings...for $7.00, I counted 19 shoestring onion rings. Not a nice pile, but flatly 19 and shoestring ones are incredibly deliciously thin. The kids platter arrived with just the hot dog on it. No fries. When I went back, I was told it did not come with fries. I disagreed and after some time, curly fries were placed next to the hot dog. I asked about regular fries and I was told that they did not carry regular ones. The nice boy behind this all stated that they did and it was corrected. Hot dog was now ice cold. My side of clam strips for $14 consisted of maybe a cup of clams. Sad portion! We ate what we could shaking our heads in disappointment. So sad our expectations were dashed! When we left, it was decided that a short walk (and I mean short because my mother can't balance for long) might be nice in order to forget the fiasco at the restaurant. As soon as we stepped away from the car, we were chased by their parking guard who said that we could no longer park there if we left the car. I explained that we had just spent almost $70 in their establishment and would be taking a short walk. She continued to chase us. We kept walking. Our walk took approximately 7 minutes. Upon our return, the man parked next to us entered his car with 2 bags and coffees from Sift Bakery. Obviously NOT a Skippers customer, yet he was not chased! So, sadly, we will NEVER again be visiting Skippers in Niantic. Johnny Ad's is meh, but this was way worse. I hope that they can fix things so that others can still enjoy eating there.
