It's a Friday night and we're meeting up with some friends! One of them suggested Marker 37 for a variety of reasons and today, we're going to find out why! Here's how things went for me during my visit. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the Connecticut River in Chester, CT connected to its own marina is this gem. Reservations are recommended especially in the summertime since THIS is the place where you wanna be. We were here in early April so things hadn't quite picked up, but at least the snow was gone and we didn't need to wear super heavy coats. The parking lot is massive so if it's busy you'll be walking for a minute before you get to the door. But once inside it's pretty modern, chill and relaxed. The decor isn't over-the-top. Everything is straight-edged and just... almost minimalistic. However, we sat in the patio area that was certainly heated so we could see the view of the water while the sun set. It was a wide-open setting and I'm very glad the restaurant didn't smash too many tables and chairs in there. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't remember having any issues throughout dinner. It was fairly slow so I didn't expect any hold-ups. Food/Drinks: I started off with an old-fashioned which was fine. Nothing crazy. Next up was a New England clam chowder which is perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Textures were good and so were the seasonings. Spot-on. For dinner I went with their Prime Rib! It came out perfectly medium-rare with a side of fingerling potatoes, grilled squash, au jus and horseradish sauce. It was good. Just... kinda not exciting. :-/ Maybe I should've gone the seafood route since we were on the water. But no matter. Value: Not too crazy here. It's a nice restaurant, but prices aren't out of control. You can totally come here to chill, have a drink and an app or a full-on family dinner and not be upset at the final bill. In conclusion I liked it here, just not enough to want to drive all the way out here again. Would I come back? Sure, if I were invited by friends and stuff, but I highly encourage you reading this to pay this place a visit and enjoy the views! Thank you for reading. read more

We really wanted to like this place, based on location alone. However, the overall experience fell short. It is located alongside the Chester marina and on the CT River. We opted to sit on the outside patio and ordered a chocolate martini and Rusty Anchor (Makers Mark) old fashion. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The decor outside was lacking. We felt as if we were sitting in a community gazebo with fluorescent lighting and zero color other than the sunset. No background music on a Saturday night. We ordered the Calamari, which was overcooked, braised rib tacos and fish and chips. The tacos had 1 small slice of rib meat, which we found covered with coleslaw and pickled onions. The overwhelming flavor was the coleslaw and pickled onions. There was no sauce or Au jus to dip nor was there even a side dish included. Although the fish and chips were good, the portion was very small. The restaurant has SO much potential, on location alone and truly hope they make some changes and get the fun outdoor vibe it needs. read more

Excellent location on the Connecticut River near marinas where you can sit on patio and view boats coming in and out of docks. Got online and made reservations for Father's Day a few days ahead so didn't have to wait in line. It was a good meal; enjoyed fish and chips with great fries and a chocolate mousse to share. The cucumber cocktail was delicious and thirst quenching. I fit right in cause I dressed like the help and certainly got a lot of good karma for that one! read more

We went to lunch on Marker 37 for my husband's birthday. It wasn't a perfectly sunny day, but it was warm and a really nice day to be outside. The patio ar Marker 37 is covered, and has a nice view of the river, and the boats coming in and out of the marinas. The food was great, but our service was very slow!! My husband asked for "2 more minutes" to review the menu to order, and our server didn't come back for probably 25 minutes. It was busy, but not that busy. She was checking in on her other tables and then walking away without coming over or making eye contact with us. It was so bad that we almost went back to the hostess to ask to move to a different server's section! But, she ultimately figured it out. The side salad portions were sizeable for $8. I got the Mediterranean summer salad, which was great and loaded with yummy toppings like hummus, artichokes, tabbouleh, feta, and Kalamata olives. My husband got a Caesar salad and was happy with it as well. My tuna tacos were tasty, two was a sufficient portion especially with the tortilla chips on the side. My husband's lobster Mac and cheese was large, the Mac and cheese was creamy and good, and a decent amount of lobster. I'm glad, since I later found out MP was $42 lol. It was worth it for what he got. We were going out again later, so didn't have dessert. We will definitely go back again to try more of their dishes. Definitely call to make a reservation as it was pretty busy even on a cloudy Wednesday at lunch. Once the nicer weather is here, I'm sure it will be packed every day. read more

Mixed feelings... I was so incredibly excited to try this place that had been on my list for a year. I was seated on the patio with INCREDIBLE views all around me at 6:15. And then waited...20 minutes.... Nobody had greeted me at my table so I got up and went to the hostess stand (which I feel is absurd but whatever) and kindly said I wanted to check in with her because nobody has stopped by our table and it's been 20 minutes. She said she'd take care of it so I went back to my seat. Shortly after someone stopped by and we said we'd like to start with water and the calamari for now. Calamari came out like 10 minutes later. Still no water on the table as I'm eating fried hot peppers with my calamari app. At this point I want to order a cocktail and food and our waitress is nowhere to be found. Finally around 7 (45 minutes after arrival) our waitress came back and asked if we wanted to order. I asked if there was a backup in the kitchen or what was going on because we still hadn't gotten even water at this point. I was told things were backed up and everyone had come at once. We didn't feel confident we'd get drinks or food anytime soon so I politely said we understand but I think we're going to grab the check. After another 15 minutes of waiting for the check (which never came) and she never came back, we left cash under a plate at 7:15 (an hour after we arrived) and walked out. I have never in 30 years just had to walk out of. a place. Luckily there's a whole downtown of restaurants that will serve you quickly in Chester. In summary I'd say views are spectacular, calamari was good. If they could get it together this would be a top tier, unmissable restaurant in CT. read more

TLDR; Beautiful location, great service, great cocktails, decent food. It was a nice day so we took a drive to find somewhere nice to grab a drink and some food. My friends and I had never heard of this spot but it checked the boxes for what we were looking for. They have a large outdoor seating area including some couch areas. Apparently these are a separate service from the regular tables. Because there were only two servers for the entire restaurant they said could not provide service for the area but we were welcome to sit there and order at the bar - so that's what we did. The house old fashioned is delicious! It has a nice oaky flavor and lasting cherry sweetness ( not too sweet! ). The bourbon smash was good too but the OF was better imo. We ordered calamari to snack on because we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. It was fine. Small portion, a little chewy and it seemed like it is not made fresh there. Ended up hanging at the bar and even tho the bartender (Alex) was swamped he still carried conversation with us, shared some laughs and made us feel welcome. Overall we had a great time. e was an adorable waitress and the fish and chips were literally the best my husband has ever had. It was a whole fish, very fresh and fried in a very tasty crust. You can't beat the outdoor patio with the view of the water and gentle breeze.Unfortunately the pork taco proved inedible . Besides being very fatty, the meat seemed to be sprouting hair! It was disgusting. The restaurant still gets 4 stars as they took the $18.00 off the bill and apologized profusely. I encourage people to come to this spot, but don't order the pork taco! read more

Beautiful day and a nice drive to Chester and Marker 37 on the river. From start to finish great service from Jay who tirelessly answered all our questions. Started with the freshest Calamari yet and opted for the aioli sauce. My Scallops were a little lacking in flavor: 'Dry-Packed Broiled Scallops topped with Casino Butter, Bacon, & Seasoned Breadcrumbs'. It came with mashed potatoes but I subbed the lime herbed rice which was quite flavorful; the broccolini, however, were tough and cold. So many interesting desserts to choose from and I opted for my usual Afogato with my instructions on its making. I wanted to try this with the Salted Caramel ice cream and it worked [a little heavy on the ice cream and sauce though] and the espresso was fine. Great convos with Jay about the restaurant site, view, flora and fauna [saw a Loon and two swans]. I think the wind over the river tends to cool off the food quickly. read more

Stopped here for lunch on my boat and had a great time. I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich with fresh burrata and it was delicious. Super flavorful and creamy. Service was great and friendly despite how busy it was and the views of the CT River were incredible. I was pleasantly surprised and will be absolutely coming back. read more

Staff was friendly, but unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The first time I went, I had a burger, and it was incredibly greasy. Husband had the lobster Mac and Cheese and said it was watery and not good. That was a while ago, so we tried to give it another chance last night and was disappointed again. The chicken sandwich I had was horrible. The sauce that was on it tasted like mustard and was terrible. I pretty much just ate part of the chicken alone, which had no flavor, and definitely nothing special. Family didn't like the pork belly tacos either. Lobster roll was good, and French fries were good. Probably won't be back. read more

Let's face it, when you have a restaurant with water views it almost goes without saying that the food will be secondary. There are many examples along the Connecticut shore that enforce this premise. Market 37 is the exception. I've been dining here since they opened and have never had a sub standard meal. Lunch, dinner and private parties have all been great. Even the seasonal help have always been attentive and efficient. Someone at the helm certainly knows what they are doing. Don't hesitate to dine here. The summers may be challenging for the kitchen and staff but I think even a few minor mistakes are worth the experience. read more

I love this location. It's just so scenic and relaxing surrounded by water. The marinas are quiet now, with just an occasional boat puttering in. We were there on a warm autumn night with a full moon rising. It doesn't get any better than this for ambiance. Service both times I came, was excellent . So far Marker 37 hits the mark. My only suggestion for improvement would be to add some tasty vegetarian items to the menu. We ordered every vegetarian item on the menu. I ended up flavoring the pasta dish myself. Great view, great service and excellent food. This gem is right on the Connecticut River and right next to a marina. Great views from the patio. For an appetizer I got the calamari. It's not easy to cook right. This was done perfectly. One of our table mates ordered a creative clam, corn and jalapeno chowder. The only negative about the food was the guacamole I had had turned and was not pleasant at all. Everything else was as near perfect as possible. Nice place. We sat on the patio that over looks the CT river. This place is in the middle of a boat marina, so it was kinda loud with the boats going by and even a few planes landing on the river. The servers are all young, friendly and polite. We got the chips and guacamole that was ok. I got a lobster roll. I thought it was small on first glance but they packed it full of lobster and had a side of butter to dip with too that made it really good. Nice place I'd go back again. read more

Service was SO SLOW. Just to get waters took 15min. Ordered food and they got the wrong orders. Their pesto chicken sandwich was gross soggy and sauce was bitter. My husband and I came here for a River-side dining experience. The restaurant was highly recommended by a friend. So the good - there weren't any seats available when we got there (and it was early!) but they found us seat on a sofa like area overlooking the River, which was probably the best part of this restaurant. The punch was delicious. No idea what was in it but it was good. A bit surprised it came in a plastic cup considering the cost of everything on the menu. The fish and chips were delicious. As were the the coconut shrimp (not pictured). Fries were cooked perfectly, The bad really is due to the value/cost ratio. For what they charge they don't give you a lot of food. The fried calamari had too much breading to fish ratio (rings were too thin) - but this is coming from and Italian and we have higher standards for fried calamari :-) The soda was flat. They must have known because they took it off the bill and didn't seem surprised that mentioned it. Our waitress was very friendly. I think she mentioned she was new and she did just fine. Overall, the food was good, but you can find better value at lots of other places. But, if you are looking for good scenery and relaxing atmosphere - then try this place out! read more

I am giving 5 stars for the view and ambiance! The view is really good. The restaurant is right on the river. They have a lot of outdoor seating. There are boats all around. I bet you could take your boat to the marina and then leave it there while you eat! I thought the food was okay! It's not the best restaurant I've ever been to, but it's not the worst. The lobster tacos had a great portion of lobster but it was a little chewy. The Brussels sprouts were fine but not a great portion. Service was okay overall! Mistakes all around when we were in recently. Food came out wrong, with onions when asked for without, the calamari didn't have any drizzle on it as the menu said it would, tasted quite fishy and was rubbery. One in our party ordered a specific beer, but got something completely different. Food took well over an hour to arrive, drinks took close to 30 minutes. The outdoor patio was possibly the only thing this spot has going for it. The breezes and views are gorgeous. The waitress was so done with her job and dropped the check without saying a word. We were visiting this place with the family. It looks fancy, with beautiful seating outside. You can also walk down to river and enjoy beautiful view, take nice pictures. We had a kid with us and staff provided us with booster seat and paper and pencils for coloring. I think it is thoughtful. My party ordered different kind of things. I personally got myself fish and chips. My expectations were not met. It felt like the dish was not full and definitely missing something. You can tell it by the amount of food I got (not much fries and one piece of fish) and tartar with ketchup. I liked the fries, I really was disappointed with fish. Came to Marker 37 with expectations to experience fine food, charming waterfront quiet scene and warm friendly service. To our surprise, had the worst service in latest year. Wine was served in water glasses , which is very uncomfortable to hold, and led to dropping the glass and spilling the wine. The server didn't even pay attention, had to wipe with napkins that served for personal dinner use. Another thing was the empty finished plates were not taken away until we asked to do so, because there were no space for food to place Comfortably. Regardless of fine and tasty food and location atmosphere, we left with ruined mood. Very unfortunate, but cannot recommend the place, and hope the owner will pay attention to service. read more

When we arrived , it was a 30 minute wait inside or out under shade , except for the couches outside . We took them . In retrospect, we shouldn't have . The heat was brutal . The view was amazing . Probably best to see at dusk . Ordered guacamole app . It was ok . Lunches though were great . My burger was on a brioche roll . Cooked perfectly and fries fresh . My friend had a nice salad with tuna as a side in it . Fresh sliced . Not in a can . Service - they are young . I would suggest they stop by tables more often but it's so busy . Getting to be that time of year....when you want to eat outside. If it's still too cold their patio is enclosed with heaters and we had a beautiful Spring view. At 3:30 we had our pick of tables and prompt, friendly service. We shared the tuna and a short rib grilled cheese. Both perfect. Went for an early dinner with a party of 6. We had to wait for a table because even though we had a reservation, we requested the patio which they did not promise and it wasn't available right away. So we proceeded to sit at the bar and had a cocktail. The bartender Jackson was great. He was friendly,fun and had recommendations on the menu which would be helpful once we were seated. We were finally brought to our table and the beautiful view was worth the wait. But then we waited quite some time before anyone came over to say hello. Finally, after our server came over there were several other problems with the service throughout our dinner but we'll put all of that aside. As for the food- The Fig pizza was very sweet and a little less fig would be nice.Strawberry salad had strawberry and cucumbers in it that were slimy like they were sliced hours before the salad was made.The balsamic dressing that came with it didn't pair well with the salad. I asked for another dressing which was better with it.The Haddock that came with the fish and chips was very good. The fish was flaky and the batter was good. Two of us asked for rice instead of fries. The rice was the kind you that you just boil in a bag. We were also up charged an additional three dollars each. We were told by the staff that the owner was never there so that would explain a why things were so bad. It didn't even seem like anyone there was in charge. So other than enjoying the Fried Haddock and the great view we would not return. read more

Beautiful venue with great views of CT River. We chose their outdoor patio for lunch, as it was a really nice day and this place did not disappoint. We shared the mussels appetizer which was ample and delicious in a thai coconut curry sauce that was excellent and was served with two wedges of focaccia for dipping. I had the pork tacos which were very good and flavorful, lots of tender, well seasoned pork and a yummy apple slaw which paired well with the pork. My friend had the fish and chips which were also really good and well prepared. All around great experience, great service and would go back in a heartbeat. Also did not feel it was overpriced and definitely did not walk away hungry. Appetizer, 2 meals and two draft beers and a view that could not be beat - $86. read more
