We had the best brunch at Landing & Main today. The folks who owned The Wethersfield Diner come in every Sunday to offer an amazing fresh brunch from 9 am - 1 pm. There were so many options...a French toast bake with warm syrup, warm apples in syrup, or sugar free syrup. Fresh made biscuits with gravy, or you could opt for the fresh homemade blueberry or strawberry jams, as I did!!! Breakfast standards like scrambled eggs, ham, bacon and sausage, and some of the best breakfast potatoes you'll ever have!! There was also a yogurt and oatmeal station with tons of toppings, fresh made granola, and the best triple clotted yogurt I've ever had! Don't let me forget the mini quiches, salads, or amazing dessert table with fresh baked desserts, as well as croissants, bagels, and mini muffins. This week they also had made to order corned beef hash made by Brian O'Rourke from the old (now closed) O'Rourke's Diner in Middletown. It was so good and even better than I remembered!! Brunch is $22.95 per person for all you can eat, and included coffee, tea, and juice. Cocktails are available for an extra charge. Service was warm and welcoming and the dining room was lovely! This place was good! Like, legit good! I'm writing this review after only one visit. Our party of five all agreed that their meals were delicious. I wasn't feeling very adventurous, so I got a chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. I am notorious for never finishing my dinner... And I ate the whole thing. I mean every crumb. It was that good. The menu was diverse, and I will have to go back and try one of the more adventurous pasta, dishes, or the like. Our server was experienced and attentive. The space was clean. The owner was friendly. Found a restaurant close to Norma Terris theater. It ended up a very good meal. Janet, our very friendly waitress, was very attentive and the owner Sal even came over to check on us. We all enjoyed our food. We started with clams casino..a little pricey for 5 small clams, but they were tasty. The Nashville hot chicken was a huge sandwich .. so big I am taking half home. My friend tried the special which was braised short ribs. Two of the three ribs were well prepared but one had a bit too much fat making it inedible. The chicken parm and chicken Marsala were both hits. We all enjoyed our drinks especially appreciating the $5 Blu Moon and $7 Two Roads . We love to try new places. The food was good but the service was absolutely horrible. I ordered a water which I never got and a prosecco which she couldn't find for several minutes. Then she attempted to pour a beer with the tap cap still on it. She could not figure out the register and a customer had to come help her because she could not get a hold of the manager. Who would hire this person and leave her by herself on the floor with no manager on duty. how did she pass a bartender interview? Whom and where is the manager that is supposed to be helping the staff ensure that the guests enjoy their experience? Found this place online for a late lunch/early dinner after doing some shopping in the area. It was an unusually warm day for March, & it showed that they had outside seating, plus menu items that appealed to us. The photos we saw on Google looked great. We arrived...and the outside seating turned out to be a small patio adjacent to the parking lot. All the outdoor tables were dusty and dirty, obviously not being used. Ok, understandable, it's March. We went inside. There were maybe a half dozen people at the bar who appeared to be regulars. That's it. Nobody at any tables. It WAS a weekday afternoon (Thursday) so we didn't think much of it. The place did not look as new & fresh as it did in the online photos, but it was ok. Our server was the bartender who greeted us when we walked in. My partner decided on some kind of steak tips over crostini dish which the server/bartender recommended, it was a "special" that day, not on the menu. I just ordered the fish sandwich and sweet potato fries. And we waited. And waited. I was hungry. Contemplated leaving. AT LEAST 30-40 minutes went by, and the server finally came over- to tell us that they couldn't find any bread so they couldn't make the steak tips/crostini dish! Wow. She was very nice, and apologetic, but it was still kind of ridiculous. WHY did it take so long to inform us they were out of that item? The food came a little while after that and it wasn't great. The fish was ok, but it tasted like it was frozen not fresh. Same with the sweet potato fries, definitely a frozen product just heated up. Partner's burger was alright, but he said the bun seemed a bit stale (I didn't eat mine). The server did end up comping us for his meal, I guess she felt bad for the wait; so at least we didn't spend a ton. This place has been a go-to because everything we've ordered has been consistently good. The burgers are GREAT and I swear they have the best fries in the area. Chicken tenders and philly cheesesteak are bomb. Everything we've ordered was to-go, which I feel like is really a test because typically food in general doesn't taste as good in my experience when you order it for pickup, but each dish we've had has been solid! Enjoyed dinner at Landing & Main last week on the spur of the moment as we were in the area. It's not a place that you'd probably look twice at from the outside, but once inside, it was cozy, friendly and inviting. We sat right by the fireplace and that was SO nice on a very cold night. There's a bar area which seems to be the local place to come and enjoy a drink or two. Many people seemed to know each other, but didn't make us "outsiders" feel strange at all. The waitress was very friendly and did everything to make our dinner an enjoyable one. We had a few food restrictions but we were accommodated wonderfully! I ordered the porkchop with veges and a salad and my husband did the same with a steak. Let me just say, that I never order pork chops when I go out to dinner. I guess, because if they're overcooked they are SO dry and I have a difficult time cooking them right! Well, let me tell you, this was the best pork chop I've ever had!! It was huge and perfectly grilled without sauce or anything to mask an overcooking! It sat on top over a large mound of spinach and it was delicious! My husband said his steak was cooked to "medium-rare to medium", just as he asked. The owner even came over to the table to check on us which was a nice gesture. As a former restaurant manager/chef and current supporter of local eateries, I know what a medium-rare NY strip looks like. Apparently, the chef at this restaurant does NOT! My wife and I ordered the NY strip, she a medium and I a medium-rare. I also ordered the asparagus and French fries. Her steak did indeed come medium with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts as ordered. However, my steak turned out to be the same -- Medium! As I sliced my steak more and more, I could not see any pink. Its temperature was definitely not between 125F and 130F. The asparagus looked like wilted spinach. There were no stalks of that delicious vegetable to be recognized. The crisp fries tasted a little fishy, which leads me to believe that they were fried in the same oil as their fish and chips. From experience, I know one fryer is always dedicated to fish and only fish. At the time, we were the only couple seated in the restaurant located next to the lounge. Although the laughter and conversations of several drinkers at the bar carried into the main restaurant, we didn't mind. Therefore, the chef could NOT have been overwhelmed with food orders and had ample time to watch my steak as it was cooking on the grill. Not so! He allowed my steak to cook until it was medium. Although the waitress offered to have another steak cooked by the chef, I did not want to risk it! Nor did I want to wait while my wife was eating her meal alone. On a trip through Deep River and Yelp led me and my daughter here for lunch. It was torrentially pouring outside and they were clearly having some roof issues as there were several buckets catching water in the bar area. We were seated quickly and served by a very nice woman who I hope is well compensated as she was hostess, bartender, and waitress that day and did her job(s) well. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a couple of beers on tap from the small brewery down the street (High 9) which I had been wanting to try. I got their IPA and it was delicious. I ordered their house burger and my daughter got the fish sandwich. My burger was not great. Kinda dry. The bun didn't seem very fresh and the sautéed onions and mushrooms were just mushy and seemed not fresh at all. The fries were good. My daughter said her fish sandwich was very good as well, so there's that. I'd definitely give these guys another try when I'm in the area again. Yelp doesn't normally lead me astray and the reviews here are good. Guessing they may have had an off day due to the roof leaks and maybe staffing issues. read more

Went for a drive up the coast and picked a restaurant before leaving home. Bad decision! This restaurant had pretty good reviews and this was the area we were thinking of ending up in. Small, tight, tricky parking lot. You enter into the bar, which was much nicer than the restaurant. The bar tables were full and the bartender told us to sit wherever we wanted. We walked into the restaurant sections and there was only two tables. One for 4 and one for 2. Right next to each other and the rest of the room empty. I did ask the owner about that and he explained that they had a large party in the other room and needed the tables. Service was very slow, which may have been from the party in the other room. When the food came out, about an hour after sitting, mine was wrong. They added cheese to my burger, and I can't have dairy, so it had to go back. My daughter had the fettuccine Alfredo, which she didn't care for. The pasta was hard. The rest of the food was very good. When I finally got my burger it was great. I had to ask the waiter to take the $1 off for the cheese that I didn't order when the bill came. My family has voted and I'm not allowed to pick restaurants anymore. read more

This restaurant has a lot of promise but I have seen inconsistency in the food preparation (lobster roll with varying amounts of herbs each time which was sometimes too much and roll sometimes soggy and other times not) and food presentation (does not consistently include what is listed in the menu such as sandwich coming with fries but no pickle). I went to this place because of convenience since it was pretty close to where we were in the area. We went early afternoon and it was not busy at all so we were seated right away. We were a big party of about 10 people and they were able to accommodate for that amount but I don't see it working when it's busy, but it just might. Ordered for apps the lobster bisque which was okay not a lot of flavor, just ok. For my main I got the chicken cutlet sandwich. I asked for cheese because it doesn't come with it. I thought the sandwich was pretty dry and they toast the bread for you just as a heads up for those like me that don't like their sandwiches with toasted bread. Someone in my party ordered the Buffalo wings, which had flavor but were a bit too salty for my taste. I did try the French onion soup from my boyfriend and that was pretty good. I have really hesitated to review this restaurant. I read the reviews for food and they appeared to be good, however I did see a few comments about being understaffed and that the service was slow. It was mid-week and when we entered the restaurant we were told to sit where we wanted. We saw that there were only five tables where people were seated. In the twenty minutes we were there we had a glass of water and the menu. We were in the middle of the restaurant and there wasn't even eye contact or an acknowledgement that we could put our order in or that she would be with us shortly. Based on the wait and the reviews read about wait times, we left. We also realized that none of the other tables were even served and by the time we gave our order and received the food it would have been a very long time. I fully understand that we are still dealing with a pandemic and many places are short-staffed, however at least acknowledging and communicating with your patrons when they are there would have helped. We will be back for another try and hopefully this review will be replaced by a good one. read more

This year for my birthday the family went out of their comfort zone and suggested a brand new place. This restaurant is a place you could drive right past but I wouldn't. For myself I had the soup of the day which I think was like fluke stew and the ribeye steak. My wife the gluten green penne vodka. My mother ordered the ny strip but ended up stealing my grandmothers fish and chips. I think she might have found a new like. My father had the shrimp scampi and my daughter the lobster Mac and cheese. The food alone would have made me at a 4 star but our waiter was amazing he really made the night. On the plus side, this restaurant is open seven days a week I believe for both lunch and dinner. So always nice to have a place for Mondays. Almost always a table is open. It's clean. Was renovated 2 to 3 years ago. But is a little stark. And could use a little warmth. Service is for the most part friendly. Prices seem reasonable. I would give the highest rating to the quality of the food which seems to be consistently good. Years ago it used to be quite busy with live music. Stopped in for lunch with my daughter this week. It was 1:15pm on a Monday and place was very quiet. Maybe one other table or two and a guy at the bar. Waitress was friendly and we met the owner. Super nice guy who is trying to turn the place around from the previous management. I have no complaints about my salad. I got the Greek with added chicken. Chicken was yummy served warm with a tasty marinade. The salad could have used some roasted red peppers or green peppers but it was good. Feta was creamy and delicious. My daughter had the harvest salad with chicken and she liked hers too. We had hot tea - could have used a side pot of hot water for refills but you had to ask for more hot water- no biggie. The bar looks cozy with stone and sky lights over it. It looks like they painted the dining room grey and are sprucing it up some. They said everything is homemade even the salad dressings- which I liked. It's very casual- not sure I'd recommend for a date night but it's tasty food from what I sampled. read more

We went to this restaurant on a Saturday night. Almost all the tables were filled, although it's not very big. The patio area and restaurant could use a little redoing but the food and service made up for it. They were out of burgers (?) so my husband settled on a steak. Cooked char broiled on outside and medium inside. He loved it. Someone else had fish and chips and I had the fish sandwich. All was hot and delicious although two of the plates had fries that were a little undercooked and not very hot. It did take a little while for our drinks to come but our waitress was amazing ;I think she went to the bar and poured our wine herself. I believe her name was Janet and if I could give her 10 stars I would!!! There is something about this place I like. Feels like a quaint place filled with locals who just want a nice quiet place to enjoy a good meal. My partner had the soft shell crab special and he describes it: cooked well, was tasty. The masked potato's were creamy and delicious! You could easily drive right by this restaurant because its in a relatively non descript building on a non descript corner in a small town in Connecticut. Part of me liked that it is not showy because, of course, we hoped it would be a local secret type of restaurant find. After eating here I will say that I don't care what it looks like outside and I don't care if its sort of dull brown inside because what it IS is a really good place to stop and have a great meal. They have a full bar so you know were in but they also have a nice staff, friendly and made us feel like we were local. The best part is that they have the BEST LOBSTER roll I've had in Connecticut which is saying a LOT as I eat lobster rolls all the time. They do not scrimp on the lobster and they keep the stretcher mayo at a minimum with the most heavenly amount of dill. The roll on arrival was a thing of beauty and just one look I knew that the chef was dialed in on what a lobster roll should look like-lobster not mayo as the main ingrediant. The roll its self was grilled not just toasted and buttery in taste. My husbands hamburger was juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection i.e. he asked for medium rare and it was medium rare. The cheese was real cheddar sharp and lush of course he added bacon just because why not its a pandemic and were out to lunch. When my mother asked what house dressings they had, the waiter snapped back with "they're all made in house honey how about that." Not only was one of the staff extremely rude but we had already been waiting 45 minutes for food. If you want waitstaff to mutter under their breath at you this is the place to go.
