Did take-out from here twice this week. Busy with projects at home so wanted a good meal to go. We had sushi and a few rolls a few nights ago & tonight I had the steak hibachi dinner. All were excellent. Great food, at a very good price as well. Always a great meal, great service & friendly staff. read more

Everything is so fresh and delicious! There is no other place I will go for Sushi Iron Chef Sushi is such a great spot! The bar is beautifully decorated and the whole ambiance is relaxed and inviting. The sushi is so fresh, so delicious, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was flavorful, and the service was friendly and attentive. You can tell they really take pride in their food. We had a great experience and will definitely be back! read more

Friendly service, standard sushi lunch fare. Our rolls came out quickly and were fresh. Dragon roll was underwhelming - 6 small pieces, mostly avocado and cucumber with very little eel. For a $19 specialty roll I would've expected more substance and flourish. read more

You cannot go wrong by visiting "Iron chef Sushi" and the asian cuisine that they make and serve is fantastic! Carol and Lori are very hard-working ladies to keep their restaurant in tiptop efficiency and the food and the wait staff prove it! I usually do not review too many restaurants but this place is special to me for more than one reason. The ambience is definitely nice, casual and relaxed, but also professional and efficient. You cannot go wrong by coming here. read more

Had a yummy Asian dinner at iron chef sushi! The vegetables in the vegetable hibachi were delish, and also got a side of hibachi noodles which I preferred over the rice. The yaki soba was a little plain. Margarita was surprisingly good. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. read more

Came here after stopping downtown for shopping, and it's a hidden gem. The sushi here was amazing! It was some of the best I've had in Connecticut and the United States. As seen in the photos, they present it to you with garnish and high quality visuals. The miso soup was just right, not too watery as when I make it at home with packets. The taste for the sushi was also very smooth and clean, not fishy or smelly. The only issue I had was there was a hair in one of my rolls, although it was very small and didn't impact my meal. You're definitely getting high quality sushi for the price you pay, which is very reasonable compared to supermarkets. Another issue I had was that I wanted to eat a lunch special, but was informed there was no lunch on Sundays; would've been nice to know beforehand with a sign but again didn't deter my ability to dine here. The service was very nice. It did take them about 5 minutes to notice me waiting at the front in an empty restaurant, but they were polite about it and apologized. The waitstaff is very friendly, to me and another customer who came in afterwords. Overall positive experience with the staff here. The ambiance of the restaurant was also very traditional, with wood floors and tables, a sushi bar and overall rustic atmosphere. Very clean and well maintained! Will be coming back here for dinner and takeout when I want to have a nice time out! read more

The service was very good. However, we won't be going back. Food wasn't bad but the tuna sashimi was not tender, the soup was bland and the grilled salmon was smothered in sauce. None of it tasted bad but, there seem to be better options in the area. Maybe the sushi is better than what we ordered... read more

Place has gone downhill. Sorry to say. Bland, mediocre to average quality sushi & maki rolls. Rather ordinary & blasé presentation. Used to be plate decorations made from carrots& cucumbers slices. Not that this is necessary for a good quality meal but it did make for a more enjoyable experience. Seaweed salad oily and icy. Overpriced for the not-great fare. Will not return. There are better quality sushi places nearby to choose from. read more

Gyoza, shumai, sushi, and hibachi (shrimp, steak, and salmon) were all very good!. Generous portions. Service was warm and welcoming. I'll definitely be back!! read more

First time at the restaurant, Carol the owner was so gracious. We ordered lunch, even though we're not big sushi fans. Carol pointed out all the lunch specials which include Tempura shrimp on vegetables in a bento box- comes with miso soup or salad . We had the pork dumplings also. All very good. Saturday afternoon - not crowded - a great alternative for anyone looking for a nice meal . Try it at least once. We'll be back read more

This new restaurant in downtown Madison is really a gem. It opened a few weeks ago, and as a Sushi lover I have been there twice. The Sushi is fresh and delicious and beautifully prepared. They offer a wide variety of sushi, sashimi and specialty sushi rolls. They also have a complete Japanese menu for those who prefer cooked Japanese food. I stuck with sushi and also tried the dragon roll, which was fabulous. My wife had the shrimp tempura, which was also delicious. A very light batter, fresh and not greasy. The owner, Michael Chen, was very present, meeting customers, clearing tables and making sure everything was going smoothly. A small, intimate restaurant, a very authentic Japanese atmosphere, with the sushi bar being the center of attraction. I highly recommend this restaurant if you area Japanese food lover. Very popular, so make reservations! read more

I had a great experience. The sushi was delicious. I came with an open mind and ordered the Omakase. Only a couple pieces were beyond my palate but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Glad I did. Michael was very polite and accommodating. He is a very nice guy and I wish him well with this new endeavor. The restaurant is still new and working through their processes, so if you happen to go, I would recommend bringing patience and understanding regarding the wait time. But I can tell you it was worth the wait! read more

Everything went well. Staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. You can't ask for anything more. Happy restaurant.

This is a much-needed addition to the town of Madison. We went a couple days after their official open and just stuck with the sushi roll lunch specials. 2 rolls...California and avocado. Comes with Miso soup and salad. Delicious!! 3 rolls...salmon, spicy tuna, and california. Comes with Miso soup and salad. Delicious!! On our next visit, we'll expand our palate a bit. The interior is small but comfortable. During the warmer months, they do have a small outdoor seating area. I thought the prices were fair and on par with other sushi restaurants. They do have to work out a few kinks that I'm sure will come soon. The restaurant was very cold. We had to wear our coats while dining. We weren't offered any drinks. They did bring us water. Looked like they need to hire more waitstaff. This restaurant should be a big hit in town as long as they keep the prices fair, provide good and fresh tasting food and be able to keep employees. read more

Another home run! This is the best place in CT to grab sushi. The fish is incredibly fresh and consistent, the restaurant is extremely homie. Just a few minutes off of I-95, it's worth the trip and detour. I travel 45 minutes one way just to pick up sushi, its well worth it! read more

Went for lunch on a Friday, decent crowd and fast service. The staff was friendly and efficient. It is nice to have a good, eat-in sushi place on the shoreline. The decor is nice inside and hasn't changed much from the old mermaid house. The spicy girl roll was our favorite roll by far- the most flavor. The steamed pork gyoza was really tasty too. Overall the sushi was good but not the most flavorful I've ever had- could have just been the day! Eager to go back and try some more rolls! Pricing was comparable to other sushi places around. read more

This was the second time I've been to this establishment, both times sitting outside on a beautiful day. I was happy to give iron chef a second try after my first time months ago, where I thought the rice was really dry on their maki rolls. This time around I was pleasantly surprised that the four rolls, one of which was a specialty roll, was absolutely fantastic, very flavorful and fresh. I judge my sushi by never using soy sauce, as I feel it takes away the enjoyment of the actual fish, always assuming it's not bad, but then again, you have to vet the places you visit. I love love sushi and I have been diving into the cuisine for over two decades, which makes me feel old but perhaps a seasoned veteran of this tasty treasure. As far as drinks ago, I had the house sake (always get it hot, my pref) and my husband got water (to each his own), service was great (was literally noon so not packed) and the bill + tip for three rolls + one specialty (+ sm sake) was between $50-$75. I don't think too terrible for two people dining on the shoreline on a beautiful day at the end of September, given the financial intricacies of fourth quarter 2023 :) read more
