When my friends is looking to eat a lot of sushi then Sushi Palace is where we go. We also get seated quickly and order comes out fast. The place is spacious and comfortable. Some would say a little run down but the staff is friendly. The food is pretty good for an AYCE (All You Can Eat). I am not expecting high quality sushi when I come here. But it is good enough and we get stuffed. I always get the clear mushroom soup and the seaweed salad. My favorite from the kitchen is the shumai and the fried calamari. Just be aware on how much sushi you order cause you can get full pretty quickly after eating the kitchen food. We like to pace ourselves and you can always order more once you are done with your first round of food. read more

My vegan friend was over so we needed a vegan option for her. She said she's had good food at the Sushi Palace so we ordered through GrubHub. This proved to have been a terrible choice. Combo Tempura - The coating was as thick as the chicken/shrimp inside, completely tasteless and weirdly crunchy. It was like they dipped it in tempura batter and then rolled it in something crumbled. Vegetable Maki Combo - this was not bad but diner said she'd had better. Vegetable Tempura Roll -Both orders of Vegetable Tempura roll were nearly uneatable. The taste was not good and both orders had carrots and some unidentifiable veg-able that were so hard they absolutely could not be chewed. I tried one and no matter how hard I bit, I could hardly make a dent in the carrot. Miso Soup - Eatable but diner did not like it enough to eat it and it, like the rest of our meals ended up in the trash. We had to scrounge in the refrigerator to find something eatable. With delivery fees this horrible experience cost $78! Never again!! I almost always only write positive reviews but I couldn't let this obscenity go unchallenged. read more

Went again to my favorite spot last week. They have added a few things to the menu, but I did notice that they took the description of the rolls away, which, for me, isnt that big of a deal as Ive been there enough, and they have menus in case anyone needs to see what they are.. The servers are great and friendly. We got there at 5:45 on a Friday night and the place got busy as time went on. We ordered some kitchen items like miso soup, fried veggies and edamame. They were great except the fish was not very fresh and definitely frozen. There was blood from the tuna which grossed me out. The white tuna smelled fishy. We ordered takeout and picked it up from the restaurant. We had a giant order of nigiri of multiple cuts of fish, with several extra orders of tamago (egg) and salmon for the kids, and a rainbow roll for good measure. I was pleasantly surprised to find the fish relatively fresh with decent flavor. This place even passes the lean tuna test, which is usually the worst piece of nigiri at a lot of sushi joints. The rice is decent, the miso soup portions are large and hot (and not overly-salty), and the prices are good. The only issue I saw was the poor construction of some of the rolls, which disintegrated the moment I tried to pick them up. I don't know what the dine-in experience will be like, but it's so close to home that I think I will order regularly from here when I don't want to make the trek to New Haven. Be warned: as of the last time I tried it, you still can't pay online with Paypal even though they offer it as an option. And their system doesn't send a confirmation email. **Updated Review** Every time I walk in, the layout is different and the hostess desk has moved. We came in yesterday and stood for a couple of minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Our table was missing soy sauce and it took a while for them to bring one. I realized there are no prices listed; they just bring you the "all you can eat" list and you go from there. No menu, no pictures, no descriptions except for the specialty rolls. To be honest, we ordered way more than we needed. However, they forgot one of our salmon avocado rolls and when we asked for it they said "I think you have enough for now" instead of apologizing and bringing it. When we were done, I asked for a box to bring home our leftovers (again, admittedly, we had ordered too much) and I was told it's $8 to bring home your leftovers. That is not advertised anywhere. They'd rather throw away their leftovers than give it to the people who paid for it. I get you're only supposed to order what you'll eat, but set a limit. Say that it's all-you-can-eat, but limit of 2 rolls per person at a time. Once you finish those 2, you can order 2 more, etc. Next time I am bringing my own tupperware and will just box it myself to avoid paying another $8. Also, $2 for a can of soda? Ugh. The sushi is good, but for basically $19/person, you can just go and pay as you go elsewhere. I would have ordered less and spent less. read more

I've been to the one in Hamden, and in comparison this is my less favorite of the two. Service here takes a bit longer than I would like at times, both when waiting for orders and for the food. The water here also taste terribly chemical-laden, as if they were pouring it out of some old piping. In terms of the food, the sushi is not half-bad, comparable to the other location and moderately on par with any other sushi joints nearby. The bento boxes, especially during the lunch specials, are my favorite and are often filling without breaking the bank. Also, there is a bunch of parking, so that's always nice. Have been eating here occasionally for a few years now and have to say my most recent stop after a 2yr hiatus was shockingly good. The fish was fresher/more melt-in-your mouth than ever before (go for the sashimi/nigiri!) The actual rolls had MUCH less rice than before which meant I wasn't feeling guilty about hiding excess rice between plates the whole time. Again.... I am going to give this place another 1 star. I went back (I know I said I wouldn't) since this location is half way for both us and our friend. Needless to say, the place was near empty and it still took a long time for the sushi to be made and brought to the table. My waitress was rude, could care less, and each time my fiance said "thank you" he was not acknowledged....not even once. Then..what really disgusted me, was I ordered hot tea and when she went to refill it, she grabbed the rim of my glass from the top with 4 of her fingers. I was so skived out by this. You are always supposed to handle a glass from the side..not the top where you drink from (where your lips touch). ...so gross. Then, we ordered bbq squid and chicken teriyaki and it came on the SAME PLATE. I know for sure that people with allergies can't have fish and chicken on the same plate ever...never mind that you aren't suppose to serve ckn and fish on the same plate to begin with. Sushi Palace is conveniently located in the same plaza where I get my nails done and dry cleaning done. Because of the convenience factor, I'll often end up grabbing lunch here. The staff is unfriendly and barely speaks to you while you are in their restaurant. You'll never see any of them crack a smile. The sushi is of average quality not amazing but good enough. The price is reasonable and there are a variety of choices including tempura, salads, soups, and sushi. I give it three stars for the convenience, price, and variety, if you're looking for a more pleasant experience go to Tokoyo II down the street in the plaza one over from stop and shop. read more

The prices have increased recently which makes it not worth it anymore. If u have a child with u they will not ask how old the kid is they just sneak and charge u full price regardless if they are under 10. Staff is snotty, ignore you most of the visit, and worst of all they wear gloves the entire shift and never change them. They go through the garbage, tie up the bag, answer the phones, and then serve u all with the same gloves. We took videos to show the health department because they even went to the bathroom and came back out with same gloves on. If u want to get sick and ripped off eat hear, especially if u want to be treated nasty. They hate Americans no doubt and it shows. read more

They sometimes don't bring you exactly what you order. Be careful not to order too much or they will charge you, which is to me is a totally reasonable policy to keep people from wasting food. My family and I have been going to Sushi Palace in North Haven for years. While the overall quality of the sushi is average-above average, given the price and the amount of sushi and sashimi we eat, it is well worth a visit. I know of some all-you-can-eat sushi places that limit the amount of special rolls you can order per person; Sushi Palace is not one of those places. We have always ordered a TON of sushi, sashimi, and specialty rolls and not once have we been told "You've ordered too much food." However, we do try to finish everything that we order. Another huge perk is the unlimited appetizers (the best is the beef rice bowl) which are dangerous because they really fill you up before the sushi comes out. Of course, red bean or green tea ice cream dessert at the end of the meal is a must. A downside to Sushi Palace is the waitstaff, who always appear to be rushed and are a little curt in their attitude. However, the food, both in terms of quality and quantity, more than make up for it. I am sure that we will be going to Sushi Palace for years to come. read more
