Have t been here in a long time but haven't been thrilled with other sushi places lately so decided to give it a new taste. Very friendly and quickly prepared for takeout. There is a list on the wall of a few dozen rolls so be prepared to take a while deciding unless you've got it memorized already or just choose the regular menu items. I got a spicy tuna and a yellowtail roll along with a spicy scallop hand roll and an order of uni sushi. I was pleasantly surprised that they has uni because most places just don't carry it anymore. It was the last two pieces available here tonight. My wife got a few veggie rolls with soy paper. She said they were good but one of the rolls already had a sauce on it which was unadvertised and not necessary. The only negative for me was the scallops. They had no taste. Fresh scallops should be sweet. All I tasted was the hot sauce. read more

Quality of food is going down. Disappointed in Toro sushi in Cheshire substituting imitation crab in their roles. Ordered a Naruto roll that on menu says white tuna, tuna and salmon. Instead I got avocado, imitation crab and a small piece of tuna. ??? I'm fine with that if you say, hey we are out of certain fish and need to sub. But they didn't. And avocado and fake crab don't cost the same as high quality sashimi...but you are charging me for it. I called to ask why the sub and they told me, that's how it comes. When I showed her the menu, she said Oh, well all the fish were there too. What? No. And update your menu if you're changing the recipe. I'm sure they are trying to save money and I'm fine with that. Just advertise what you're getting. Trust is so important! Unfortunately, this place lost mine. read more

Delicious and affordable! This is our new place for our family to meet. The fried calamari was insane. The sushi fresh and delicious. Where else can you get a fresh spicy tuna roll for $6.50? We look forward to our next trip back which will be soon, I hope! read more

Not many places to get takeout sushi in town but that is changing with the addition of the new place In south Cheshire. I love the Sako roll here and their sushi is ok but rest of the menu isn't great. Def known for their sushi for sure. Takeout only unless you make a reservation. Used to be able to dine in but Covid changed that a bit. read more

During Covid this place only did take out, but I heard that they were seating indoors now with a restaurant. It was a great experience. The service was amazing and so was the food!!! We adore this Family Owned Sushi Spot! Eagle Roll is by far our favorite! Dinosaur Roll, Amazing Roll so good! The rice is always soft, not to sticky. The fish, shrimp tempura and veggies are fresh and flavorful. Mango, Seaweed Salad and Sweet Potato Roll are nice fillers. No dining space since covid so only takeout. Food is good but a little pricey compared to others in the area. Service is prompt and orders are available in a timely manner. Overall it's not my go-to because of the price but is my second choice. read more

I lived in Cheshire for 8 years but somehow never made it to Toro until a couple of months ago. People are always surprised by that. For a town with seven pizza places, this has become a Cheshire institution, which is a testament to what they're known for--reliably good, affordable sushi. My friend and I took advantage of their maki specials for lunch, and both got a spicy tuna roll, an eel avocado roll, soup, and salad. The sushi is fairly standard in taste. If I had to nitpick, the rice was a little mushier than what I'm used to. By Cheshire standards, this is pretty good though. For $10, it's a good deal, and we both left full. The atmosphere is pretty run down, but you're not really coming for that. I would come back if I was in Cheshire around lunch time, but it's not somewhere I'd drive out of my way for. read more

Hey if you want sushi, you'll satisfy your cravings here. The menu is good the flavors are nice. Obviously not the best but Cheshire is starved of low price high quality food and this is about as good as it gets. I reccomend the shrimp tempura roll and especially the eel roll. The miso soup is good and if you get the tempura alone. You'll get the tempura you expect. read more

This is my favorite sushi place, something about their Kani salad, suaka roll and fried California roll just top every other place I've had.

I came for lunch and ordered a tonkatsu bento box. Miso soup was light and not salty (pleasant change from the norm). Salad was DROWNED in dressing. C'mon now, it's a salad not a soup. The bento box consisted of 4 pieces California roll, 3 shumai, rice, and the tonkatsu. The California roll pieces were falling apart. The shumai were fried, which is not typical. The rice was cheap grains, not what you expect out of Japanese grain, and the tonkatsu was DRIED to a crisp. I am curious about the sushi (I did not try any)... the menu includes uni, toro, yellowtail, etc... all top-line sushi that many places do not have. I am now worried about that quality given the poor quality of the California roll. Anyone who thinks this place is top-notch doesn't know what good (even average) Japanese food is. read more

My wife does not like sushi so when she is out with friends or her sisters and my friend RR, is available for dinner we head over. The place is small, friendly and always busy . For good reason - the food is good - very good! and we always have good service - sometimes a language issue but that is part of the charm of the place. My friend, RR, likes to order a dish he gets other places - its not on the menu but they aways make it!. I always order ala carte and enjoy the nice cuts, fresh fish and flavorful rice. Came to visit my daughter for her birthday and found this place. Some of the best sushi I have ever had, reasonably priced as well. The kani salid appetizer was very good. One the best roll was the New Years Eve roll. The house roll are bigger than the normal roll, definitely worth the extra money. read more

I went here on a Saturday for lunch with a friend. I ordered the chicken teriyaki lunch Box and it was delicious! It was a nice size, so I ended up packing up the half for tomorrow's lunch. The servers were really nice. I never saw the end of my tea cup because they refilled it so many times. The restaurant was nicely decorated. I live in Boston's Chinatown so I eat a lot of good sushi all the time, but this sushi is if fairly good quality for a reasonable price. There were vegetarian options to choose from but not as many as I'm used too. The quality of the ingredients was great but it wasn't wrapped all that tightly and some pieces were coming apart. We got take-out but they had a sushi bar and sit-down restaurant as well (kid friendly too, as kids were oohing and ahhing at the chefs preparing everything at the bar). I'm a vegetarian so I appreciated having a separate vegetarian section to the menu. It has 10 vegetarian rolls which is pretty good, covering all the basics. In Chinatown I'm used to some more creative vegetarian combinations but I guess I was lucky to find so many vegetarian options under one roof in suburban CT. I tried their more adventurous vegetarian option, the Oshinko roll (Japanese pickled radish) and it was much better than I thought it would be - kind of like salty palm hearts. The avocado roll was great too, due to the perfectly ripe avocado. So to recap: great ingredients, many vegetarian options but not too many creative vegetarian combinations, but good overall. Would have given it 3 stars for being just your average run-of-the-mill sushi place, but their low prices tipped them over the edge to 4 stars. Very quick and pleasant service. Recommended - unless you're a sushi snob/aficionado, you'll be happy with Toro. read more

Perfection. Every time I've eaten here -- four or five times so far -- every bite has delighted my senses. I have dined with my sister, another time with my brother and his two young daughters and a few times alone. They can handle anything with aplomb! Most recently I ordered the sushi lunch and it was so fresh I think I tasted sea water. I love that they offer a nice appetizer at the sushi bar, raw slices of red snapper with spicy mayo. Miso soup was not too salty at all, which is rare. The chef included something in the sushi plate I'd never seen before and I still don't know what it was but it was delicious. I meant to ask but forgot. I am in Cheshire regularly as that is where I grew up. Can't say enough about this place! read more

I've made excuses to travel in this area in order to have reasonably priced good sashimi. I definitely recommend the lunch specials. The food here is a better value than the supermarket stuff, but is probably comparable in quality. The sushi lunch platter I ordered was just sad looking. The plate was much too large, the avocado in the California roll was brownish (though it may have just been the light), and the knife work on the nigiri was disappointing. The fish was falling apart. Everything tasted fine, though the fish was ice-cold, which tends to mask the flavor, for good or bad. The fish was also strangely wet, perhaps from condensation. This was a bit odd in the mouth. The decor is a little dingy and the restaurant is quite dark. There also seemed to be a problem with the kitchen's ventilation system on my visit as I left smelling like used fry oil. Toro is a serviceable Japanese restaurant if you happen to be in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

We were in the area for my son's sport event. Service was slow for a Friday night as one waiter was servicing the entire dining room. The wine list was limited to types of wine and no mixed drinks, not comparable to other restaurants in the area. The food was good though. read more
