Sometimes I get the food to go but I do like to eat there because the service is always so friendly and they make me feel appreciated as a customer. My favorite is to start with chicken wings and then the combo dinner of wonton soup, boneless spare ribs and salad or egg roll. When I am in the mood for a lot of carbs, I get the roast pork mei fun or the pineapple friend rice. When I am trying to be good, I get the chicken with pea pods. Ever since we moved to rural CT from Flushing, NY (home to the largest Chinatown in the US and an epicenter of fabulous restaurants serving various regional styles) we tell our friends that no matter which direction we travel from our home, we are 45 minutes distant to the nearest bad Chinese restaurant. Well our horizons just expanded to include Asian Garden in Waterbury. We should have walked out the moment we entered to a foul odor, but the well rated Indian restaurant nearby had just closed and we were wicked starved. I have two goto's whenever I try a new Chinese restaurant: Hot & Sour Soup and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. My wife was more adventurous and chose Spicy Chicken & Shrimp. My soup was watery, much too sweet and lacked umami. The lobster sauce completely flavorless. The chicken & shrimp dish was also too sweet and not spicy enough. I'm glad to find this quiet little sushi spot. This restaurant provides plentiful seating as their are multiple tables in a wide, open space. Personally, I found the Asian decor to be stunning. Decided to try Asian Gardens during a trip to CoCo Key. Location: Excellent, especially if you are visiting CoCo Key WaterPark Resorts. It is a 2 min drive or 5 min walk Ambiance: Decor and lighting was a little dark for our likings but it was ok. It was a little too quiet, where you can hear every single word in the place. I would suggest turning up the music just a little to cancel out everyone's conversation. Being that we have kids, that would have helped a little Food: Food was delicious and fresh. I ordered my classic Sesame Chicken with Pork Fried Rice. My wife ordered the beef and broccoli. We could easily tell that fresh oil is used when they cook, unlike other places that recycle their oil, which in turn burns and makes the food not taste that great. The kids had chicken wings and chicken fried rice. They loved it. Plates were all of good portion. We even had leftover to take with us. We liked that the sushi chef made a customized sushi roll for us that wasn't on the menu. Service: The waitress was very nice and was very attentive. Food came out in a timely manner. One thing that I would suggest is that when people come into your restaurant, don't greet them with "pick up" or "sit down". It's a little off putting. Try, how are you? How can we help you. Culinary perfection, not to mention the kind & warm greeting of the staff members who made it seem as if it were their personal mission to make our evening memorable. I love getting sushi to go at this place! I was stopping by peachwave one day and noticed it said sushi and had to stop in to see what they had! I typically order California roll, spicy tuna roll, and cole roll and can attest that they are all great options. The sushi tastes fresh and clean every time. The prices are fair. One thing I don't like is that the sushi doesn't come with spicy mayo...it's 25 cents for a container they don't even fill to the top. It's not a big deal but something to keep in mind when going there. I plan on sitting in and ordering their more special rolls and other foods and then will update this afterwards!
