First time today. I picked up food for my son and myself . We both got boneless ribs, pork fried rice and an egg roll . I also tried the pineapple rice and my son got sweet and sour chicken. My son thought it was the best Chinese food since we moved here . I thought the food was bland. I'll continue to get food there for him but I'm not sure if I'll try another dish or not. Recently got broccoli & tofu with garlic sauce and some lo mein. YUM! The broccoli and tofu was good, could be a bit more spicey, but it's not too greasy or sweet. I hate that about American-Chinese food. I'd love to try the "vegan chicken," but honestly, for a $1 more it's probably tofu skin. Has anyone verified that this is truly vegan with no other animal products? The shrimp lo mein was good, but the shrimp were tiny. I would get the veggie lo mein next time, or ask for bigger shrimp. Some of the best Chinese food I've had in the area! Dumplings, lo mein, and wonton soup were all fantastic. This is probably going to be our new go to spot. The only demerit was that they forgot the rice that came with my mom's order of shrimp with lobster sauce, and they forgot several egg rolls that were supposed to come with the combo platters we ordered. I've been to a couple places in Southington and New Britian and it definitely tops all of those places. However, at the risk of coming off this way, it's the focus of my review: This is a very clean Chinese take-out restaurant. Unfortunately, in my admittedly limited sphere of Chinese restaurant experience, many that I have visited are grimey and generally messy. I usually prefer Japanese restaurants because of their fastidious attention to cleanliness, but now some of those restaurants are being run by "non-Japanese" individuals and cleanliness is no longer a given. Thankfully, Golden Wok is not stereotypical. As the other two reviewers have written: they owners are super-friendly and the food is good quality at a good price and most importantly..it is CLEAN! A little pricy, large portions, and they do a good job fulfilling special requests (extra baby corn please, vegetable lo mien with no mushroom, etc). Some of my meals have been better than others, but I've never really been let down by an order. So we have some friends not too far from Golden Wok that got us hooked on this place. One night we ordered and the food was amazing. So a few months passed and on our own we decided to get some Golden Wok for dinner. We were floored with how good the food was. In the past couple months I think we've been back like 6 or so times. Quality always top notch each and every time. We've had the chicken curry, general tso's chicken, crispy peanut chicken, both the thai and the pineapple fried rice, a soup... I mean I could go on but you get the point. Easily several steps above your usual Chinese Restaurant fare. We come from Bristol to get Golden because no place around can stand up them. Now they are a little higher in price than most places but for the quality and portion size it more than makes up for it. They have a pretty neat inside eating area with TV. Free hot tea while you wait for your food. The staff are really friendly and thorough. They have a soda machine as well. Restaurant used to be a bank but you'd never know once you get inside. Other than being very nice inside it's also exceptionally clean! So in my opinion this is a place you need to try. Even if you're coming from out of town. The trip is worth it. This is the only chinese restaurant ill eat at. I love that they have specified vegan options so i dont have to go crazy trying to find something i can eat and asking a million questions about all the ingredients they use. I live in Waterbury so finding the word "vegan" on Any menu is a total score, and so worth the drive. The general tsos tofu is my all time favorite. They fry the tofu, which gives it a really good texture, and the sauce is delicious and honestly probably the best gen tsos ive ever had vegan or not. read more

Dragon phoenix special....reg mushrooms, not straw. Odd sauce. The chicken meat in this dish and chicken w broccoli was reheated. That fact alone is unacceptable. Reheated chicken! This location will be my second favorite thus far. The food was really good, the seasoning was good as well. Very familiar with my Bronx tasting of Chinese food that I'm used to. The only thing I just suggest is to add a little more pork and some veggies in the pork fried rice. The two orders of rice I just picked up, only had very little pork and most def no veggies (at least some onions). Other than that food was very good. The chicken noodle soup was BANGING! Ate here a lot as a kid. A lot of good memories here. It is mostly a take out place, but has a nice seating area inside and the plates they give you are authentic china (not that plastic stuff like other places). Food quality is great, price is great, and parking is plentiful. If you are in the area and are craving chinese food, this is the place to go. read more

Did the original owners sell? I used to love the food. Bad experience this past Friday, unprofessional, obnoxious woman took my order. I don't know if they are cutting expenses but my pork fried rice had maybe 3 tiny pieces of pork. I only gave them one star because I had to, to proceed. I never bothered to call back to complain, will never go back. In fact a months ago, we ordered chicken lo mein Terrible, I think they are using different noodles, just not the same. I thought perhaps I should give them one more chance, I thought wrong. Speaking to a few people around town, they agree about the lo mien noodles tasting different. LOVE THIS PLACE! the only place i have been to besides pf changs where they cook with tofu and actually do it well! being vegetarian in this area really sucks esp when you wanna eat out. Golden wok has always been one of my favorite chinese places even when I was eating chicken and beef.
