Located in a former bank building this small, unassuming Chinese restaurant provides good service and delivers really good, reasonably priced meals I had the Triple Delight of pork, chicken and beef in a thick and tasty brown sauce. The meats were all tender and tasty, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, crisp but not hard. The veggie dumplings were delicious. Tofu and vegetables - great stuff! A couple of tables but this is really a takeaway - short wait for walk-ins. We will return read more

First time today. I picked up food for my son and myself . We both got boneless ribs, pork fried rice and an egg roll . I also tried the pineapple rice and my son got sweet and sour chicken. My son thought it was the best Chinese food since we moved here . I thought the food was bland. I'll continue to get food there for him but I'm not sure if I'll try another dish or not. There's roll was very small but it was terrific. read more

Love the dumplings, General Tso's chicken, pork fried rice, and lo meins. They are such nice people, too! read more

after ordering I requested use of the bathroom! answer was "no" ! ok then I requested a refund for food I just ordered- then was allowed to use bathroom. it doesn't get better- ! dumplings were ok- but dumpling sauce so watery! orange chicken was awful- hard, over fried in old cooking oil, no chicken was to be seen , just fried breading, no orange peel, no orange flavor at all! fried rice also had awful aftertaste! one good thing was the pepper steak which my friend had and enjoyed! they will never see me again. read more

Good portions, typical American Chinese menu; reasonably priced Suggest if you like general Tao or orange chicken get it extra chrispy. So steam doesn't make it mushy read more

Some of the best Chinese food I've had in the greater New Haven area always an absolute pleasure to have there food, they're very kind people and good at what they do. By far my person favorite Wonton Soup but the Teriyaki Chicken on a stick is the real star of the show. Also, who doesn't love a bank turned into a Chinese takeout spot, always fun! read more

Recently got broccoli & tofu with garlic sauce and some lo mein. YUM! The broccoli and tofu was good, could be a bit more spicey, but it's not too greasy or sweet. I hate that about American-Chinese food. I'd love to try the "vegan chicken," but honestly, for a $1 more it's probably tofu skin. Has anyone verified that this is truly vegan with no other animal products? The shrimp lo mein was good, but the shrimp were tiny. I would get the veggie lo mein next time, or ask for bigger shrimp. I'm excited to try their other dishes, like the Thai selections. I need to remember this place on the way home when I'm trying to think of "what's for dinner!" read more

Some of the best Chinese food I've had in the area! Dumplings, lo mein, and wonton soup were all fantastic. This is probably going to be our new go to spot. The only demerit was that they forgot the rice that came with my mom's order of shrimp with lobster sauce, and they forgot several egg rolls that were supposed to come with the combo platters we ordered. But it was a really busy night. read more

Still living up to my expectations! Great food and service as always! I wish I lived closer!

The food is just plain terrible. We had soup, an eggroll, an app and a main course. We agreed that the plain white rice was the best part of the meal and that was not good either. Just the best of the awful food. We last had their food about 3 years ago and it was so bad that we gave it a lifetime ban. We lifted the ban tonight as our memory dulled. Lifetime ban reinstated. read more

Always yummy! Love the drive thru ability! On busy days though be prepared to wait in line in the drive thru. Food is always hot and very tasty! read more

I really enjoy this Chinese restaurant they are very consistent the restaurant is very clean I recommended a lot.

I usually don't leave reviews, but I felt compelled to leave one for Golden Wok. I ordered General Taos with pork fried rice and it was by far the best I've ever had. I've been to a couple places in Southington and New Britian and it definitely tops all of those places. The chicken is better quality and the pork fried rice is really good, they don't put a lot of onions in it like other places do. read more

Ordered food from here this past weekend and spent the next 2 days with food poisoning. Do not order food from this place is you have anything important to do in the following days. I honestly can't believe they are even still open and serving food to people. I swear to god I saw one of the chefs out a cigarette out in the back when I walked in. Absolutely disgusting read more

I Placed an order over the phone I live 15 minutes from the Golden wok when I got home my order was wrong, I called and I was told I could bring it back when I said I live 15 minutes away. I said I only go to Waterbury one day a week and I was told hold onto the food because that's the only way they would give me another order if I brought the food back! Totally unacceptable ! I've been going there for years but I will never step foot in the Place again read more

I'm going to start out by saying something that I know might be taken to be prejudicial; which I really want to avoid doing. However, at the risk of coming off this way, it's the focus of my review: This is a very clean Chinese take-out restaurant. Unfortunately, in my admittedly limited sphere of Chinese restaurant experience, many that I have visited are grimey and generally messy. I usually prefer Japanese restaurants because of their fastidious attention to cleanliness, but now some of those restaurants are being run by "non-Japanese" individuals and cleanliness is no longer a given. Thankfully, Golden Wok is not stereotypical. As the other two reviewers have written: they owners are super-friendly and the food is good quality at a good price and most importantly..it is CLEAN! They will customize any order (for example, they often have "non-frying" alternatives for those who are dieting). Check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

One step above your average Chinese take out place. A little pricy, large portions, and they do a good job fulfilling special requests (extra baby corn please, vegetable lo mien with no mushroom, etc). Some of my meals have been better than others, but I've never really been let down by an order. As mentioned in the other reviews, the place is always clean, you can see the kitchen from where you pick up. read more

So we have some friends not too far from Golden Wok that got us hooked on this place. One night we ordered and the food was amazing. So a few months passed and on our own we decided to get some Golden Wok for dinner. We were floored with how good the food was. In the past couple months I think we've been back like 6 or so times. Quality always top notch each and every time. We've had the chicken curry, general tso's chicken, crispy peanut chicken, both the thai and the pineapple fried rice, a soup... I mean I could go on but you get the point. Easily several steps above your usual Chinese Restaurant fare. We come from Bristol to get Golden because no place around can stand up them. Now they are a little higher in price than most places but for the quality and portion size it more than makes up for it. They have a pretty neat inside eating area with TV. Free hot tea while you wait for your food. The staff are really friendly and thorough. They have a soda machine as well. Restaurant used to be a bank but you'd never know once you get inside. Other than being very nice inside it's also exceptionally clean! So in my opinion this is a place you need to try. Even if you're coming from out of town. The trip is worth it. Great job Golden Wok! read more

This is the only chinese restaurant ill eat at. I love that they have specified vegan options so i dont have to go crazy trying to find something i can eat and asking a million questions about all the ingredients they use. I live in Waterbury so finding the word "vegan" on Any menu is a total score, and so worth the drive. The general tsos tofu is my all time favorite. They fry the tofu, which gives it a really good texture, and the sauce is delicious and honestly probably the best gen tsos ive ever had vegan or not. read more

First time here, not really thrilled with any of the items we received. Shrimp eggroll, meh. Steamed pork dumpling, worst I've had. Bland, small amount of pork. Dragon phoenix special....reg mushrooms, not straw. Odd sauce. The chicken meat in this dish and chicken w broccoli was reheated. That fact alone is unacceptable. Reheated chicken! It has a very different taste from fresh cooked, it's gross. General Tso's - good sauce, tough, overcooked stringy chicken. Will not be back. read more

Ate here a lot as a kid. A lot of good memories here. It is mostly a take out place, but has a nice seating area inside and the plates they give you are authentic china (not that plastic stuff like other places). Food quality is great, price is great, and parking is plentiful. If you are in the area and are craving chinese food, this is the place to go. read more

Amazing food and service. Owners are great. Building looks amazing. Best part is the drive up window to get you order after you call it in

This location will be my second favorite thus far. The food was really good, the seasoning was good as well. Very familiar with my Bronx tasting of Chinese food that I'm used to. The only thing I just suggest is to add a little more pork and some veggies in the pork fried rice. The two orders of rice I just picked up, only had very little pork and most def no veggies (at least some onions). Other than that food was very good. The chicken noodle soup was BANGING! Hope my review helps. read more

Ok so the place is super clean and the service was great. It's hard to find a super clean Chinese food place. But sadly the food is so bland the egg roll was Boring. But it's clean so I will try it again read more

Excellent selection- lots of vegetarian options. Saw in an earlier yelp about the cleanliness of the place so I was hyper aware of checking it out when I went. Yep, very clean- they were even mopping the floor in the middle of diner in the dining room because it was raining. Nice people, fresh produce..what more could you ask? read more

I have been going to this place for a decade, even when the original building burned down we couldn't wait until the new one was up! Highly recommend this restaurant read more

Customer is ALWAYS wrong . Menu says 4 wings gives you 3 tells us old menu. Just told me that I didn't order a small wonton soup when I did then nasty to me when I went back and asked for it . Unless you like abuse I don't suggest this place . read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! the only place i have been to besides pf changs where they cook with tofu and actually do it well! being vegetarian in this area really sucks esp when you wanna eat out. Golden wok has always been one of my favorite chinese places even when I was eating chicken and beef. In my opinion the sesame tofu there is to die for as well as the vegetable spring rolls. i often travel to bristol with this food cause my boyfriend and I can't find a better place even in his area. when i leave this area code, it will be the only thing i'll truely miss! read more

Did the original owners sell? I used to love the food. Bad experience this past Friday, unprofessional, obnoxious woman took my order. I don't know if they are cutting expenses but my pork fried rice had maybe 3 tiny pieces of pork. I only gave them one star because I had to, to proceed. I never bothered to call back to complain, will never go back. In fact a months ago, we ordered chicken lo mein Terrible, I think they are using different noodles, just not the same. I thought perhaps I should give them one more chance, I thought wrong. Speaking to a few people around town, they agree about the lo mien noodles tasting different. Oh Well, I will venture out of town for a good Chinese dinner. read more

It's always hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in a new town but I was very pleased with my order from Golden Wok. My old place gave more dumplings (8 vs 6) but they were delicious. I'll definitely be going back read more

Their vegetarian meal is good I tried the mushrooms with broccoli and I loved it very much. They're appetizers are also delectable and they are on my town so it's easy to get there. I recommend this place for my friends and family members so they can enjoy a palatable meal and great friendly feeling. read more

LOOOVEE!!!!!! Seriously the best and cleanest!! Chinese restaurant in CT, hands down. Their food is freshly made and so delicious. Must try their General Tso's (by far their most popular item--so crispy and flavorful w/ lots of chicken!!) and their dumplings. Yummm. Chicken and Broccoli with garlic sauce is also one of my favorites. I've tried tons of Chinese food places places in CT and after finding this place, never going anywhere else for Chinese food again. Also, super friendly owners so if you get a chance, chat with them! Pretty typical Chinese food menu, but they'll accommodate to your dietary needs (aka you're vegetarian, hate onions, or want something steamed, etc.) Weekends they're pretty busy during dinner time, but worth the wait!!! Just call your order in ahead of time!!! read more

Seriously good Chinese food. We just finished the Schezwan beef and chicken with vegetables - spectacular! Beautiful new location in a former bank building with a drive up window.
