TLDR version: friendly staff, clean, very reasonable prices, low price high quality drinks, fun experience. We have gone more back already and enjoyed it just as much. My group of friends were headed to an event, and so we decided to get dinner first. One of our group suggested a hibachi restaurant. Sakimura was close, so we decided on going there. There were 8 of us. The place was nice: clean, well lit, not too loud (for a performance based cooking experience). Not super high end, but the entire experience reflected that. We got seated right away (we had reservations). Drinks arrived quickly (BTW: large tropical cocktails were very inexpensive, IIRC between $6 and $10) and we all ordered from the hibachi menu. The chef put on a great performance and we were all enjoying it. Dinners were ready quickly (another BTW: a combo steak & shrimp meal was only $28 (Dec 2025). ALL 8 of us had enough for our lunches the next day. I don't remember if they have dessert on the menu but none of us had room. I often rate a restaurant on the cleanliness of their restrooms and the men's room looked like it was cleaned and maintained multiple times a day. Came here with a party of 11 for my birthday ! We had a great time! Our hibachi chef was great! He started the hibachi show with making a birthday cake out of fire on the flat top grill! He was very enthusiastic and entertaining! One of the best hibachi shows I have seen in a while. He knew how to keep the crowd, laughing too. He had a bunch of jokes :) I ordered the hibachi filet mignon with shrimp. It was delicious. I also ordered a scorpion bowl for my celebratory drink. Oh my god not sure what happened to this place but I ordered takeout from here last week (two cooked shrimp rolls and miso soup) and the sushi was awful. Tasted like ammonia basically. This used to be such a fun place. Went there for my birthday and it just seemed flat. Half of what you pay for is the show. The food was fantastic. We all ordered the hibachi meals. We felt rushed. Everything came so quick. The chef was very young and not trained like the chefs were even a few years back. No one was yelling Sake!!!!!!!! while squirting it at you. The was no comedy of trying to get anyone to catch something the chef flips at you. He came out, did one onion volcano and then just cooked the meal and left. The spicy crunch shrimp wasn't iidentifiable. The Philadelphia roll didn't taste freshly made. They were very small. The teriyaki chicken was thin, bland strips with a watery teriyaki sauce poured over. The green tea ice cream came in two tiny prepackaged containers that didn't amount to a scant single scoop. This is one of my favorite hibachi restaurants around the area. The food is delicious. The service is on point. The design is really nice. They have four station set up for hibachi shows all the way I usually sit at a table in the dining room instead but when I do the hibachi table it's always a nice show where they have you catch things in your mouth. The food is always served quick and they really refill the drinks on point. It's slightly pricey but it seems to be worth it. I will continue to come here as long as they continue to be as awesome as they are. I really like the clear soup and their salad. Sometimes I just place an order to get the clear soup to go because it's just that good. You can enter from the front or the back. There's parking on both sides and you do not have to pay for it. Parking is limited on both sides as it's in a plaza with other shared stores. They close from 3:00 to 4:30 everyday so if you go between that time they will not be open. My daughter was going off to college and wanted hibachi before she left. We called the place we would normally go to in Hamden only to be told they no longer cook at the teppan tables (since the pandemic). So we decided to try Sakimura on the recommendation of friends and it was a great experience! The 3 of us ordered appetizers, which were all very good and all of our hibachi meals were made with high quality ingredients. My filet was tender and the 2 shrimp that come with each entree were good sized. Veggies were very fresh. I liked that they gave you fried rice and noodles. Many places charge extra for the noodles. Ginger dressing on the salad, soup, and dipping sauces that accompanied the entree were all very tasty. I should also mention how nice they were when I called to make the reservation. We took a group of colleagues from out of town to Sakimura. Reservations were easy to get on a midweek evening and we appreciated all being sat together as a group. The food was excellent and very abundant. While hibachi can be quite expensive, the volume of food is enough to satisfy just about any appetite or create a mountain of leftovers. Fortunately the staff here make sure to include plenty of rice, noodles, veggies and protein in the hibachi dinner orders. We also got some sushi for the table. It was fresh, delicious and was presented well. When in Wallingford for anything we got to Sakimura. It isn't necessarily our favorite in the State (that honor goes to Noble in Southington) but it is still really very good and we'll be back. read more

The ambiance is nicer as it looks like they may have done some cosmetic renovations which definitely helped the overall atmosphere. The service is great, and the hibachi show checks all the boxes. As with hibachi in general I've noticed that the hibachi food from these types of restaurants is pretty mediocre. There definitely way better authentic Japanese options in the area but they don't offer the show. I'll say this restaurant is better than some, but it's really more for the show and the food is just good, not great. We come here as our daughter thinks it is fun so she typically chooses it when she gets to pick dinner to celebrate a birthday or accomplishment. The sushi rolls are good, but skip the gyoza. I came here for my nieces 3rd birthday. We wanted something entertaining for her. We sat at the hibachi section and no one was in the restaurant so it was even better. We got a complimentary scorpion bowl which was good! Ordered grilled squid and beef negatoki for apps. For entree I didn't take a photo of the filet and salmon hibachi. Everything taste fine and typically hibachi. However the staff here is extremely nice, friendly, and welcoming. I don't find Asians restaurants are that way in business. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet to stop the months of constant nagging from the kids about going for hibachi. We've been here a very long time ago and it was pretty decent so we decided to give it a go. The entertainment was mediocre because they were short staffed and the chefs had to finish quickly to get to the next table. We ordered one sushi roll which was the best part of the dinner but the hibachi was a big let down. The chicken pieces and steak were dry. Luckily I ordered the salmon which was a tad better but not by that much. It was all drowned with soy and teriyaki. It's probably inflation but I just think for the price you pay, it's absolutely extortionate to get a plate of food that all tastes the same, but perhaps I've gotten fussy in my old age. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to hold back on my wallet for good food. Thankfully I think my kids' tastebuds have matured too and they're not looking to go back anytime soon either. I've been to Sakimura a few times, most recently on Saturday. I pulled up to the parking lot and noticed the sign was off, so I wasn't sure if they were open or not until I saw people sitting in side. When we left a few hours later, the sign was on -- I'm thinking it's on a timer to turn on and no one has reset it since the sun is setting earlier. Anyway, it was confusing, and my date thought he had gone to the wrong place since the sign was off. Once inside, our experience was great. The staff seated us at a hibachi table right away and we only had to wait a few minutes for the show to begin. I love seeing the differences between the chefs - some are all about the big flames and theatrics, others focus more on the sake and tossing food into people's mouths. Either way, it's fun to watch. We both ordered the chicken hibachi, with came with a generous side of fried rice and noodles. Everything was cooked to perfection (and I got an entire full meal out of my leftovers). We stayed a little over our welcome - the staff came twice to get our bill when we hadn't even looked at it yet, but we never felt pressured to leave. Worst place I have been to in my life. I ordered take out for lunch. I called at 1145am, they told me the take out will be ready at 12. I show up a few minutes after 12, all three workers who were in the front looked at me walk in. Not one of them said anything to me. Nobody assisted me in any way. The woman went back to setting up for the day and both males stayed sat behind the bar area. I waited a few minutes before I decided to leave. I just think it's extremely unprofessional and truly disgusting that a customer walks into your restaurant to pick up an order that was already placed and they get treated like they're completely invisible. This is my sushi place of choice in town it's close and very clean. My wife and I used to visit the restaurant regularly , the prices are good and the sushi is wonderful. Now we only go occasionally , preferring take out. Some meals are life changing others of meh but the staff and cooks do a great job maintaining a consistent meal no matter what day you show up to dine. read more

This place is a well furnished and thought out place. Very kid friendly. My experience here: came in with four people and did the hibachi style which is where they cook in front of you. After eating most of my food I came across a dead fly in my rice. I told one of the staff and they called the manager. The manager claimed that it just landed in my food. Two and two didn't add up because the fly was burnt. It could've been in any of our foods I said to the manager. He gave me my meal for free. But, the fact that there was a fly in the rice while our chef was cooking is bad. The food was good although, a little salty. First impressions: My friends and I went there after work on a weekday. The restaurant and bathrooms were nice and clean and the ambience was great. We could hear people having fun at the room with Hibachi. The food: We ordered eel and avocado, Philadelphia roll, and the Tiger roll. The food was great and comparable to how much you would pay for sushi at other places. The crew: Initial staff was great, we were seated right away and they very polite and respectful. We had two different servers but unfortunately the second server made us feel like we were being rushed to finish and pay. I would understand if the place was super busy and guests were waiting but that wasn't the case. We received our check very quickly after we had just finished from the second server but our first server let us sit there for a few more minutes to digest.
