When I want some poke...I always stop by pokemoto. I never had a bad experience coming here over the years. I love trying different sauces and topping each time I come. But I always need it a bit spicy! I always get the 3 protein bowl and must have some crispy wonton on top. This satisfied my craving of rice and fish. The staff is always nice and quick. Every time I go the tables are clean. There is not much seating but most people pick up and go. I sometimes get some boba if I feel like going all out on treating myself. They're like sushi rolls unwrapped and artfully laid bare in a bowl. They're colorful and customizable. They always look great. I'm a fan. As fate would have it, an event brought me to the building that Pokemoto sits in. I decided in advance that I would order Pokemoto for dinner. Pokemoto is small, but the inside is cute and modern. I chose the Hawaiian Bowl, which comes with ahi tuna, sweet onions, crispy onions, cilantro, shredded nori, masago, spicy mayo and green onions. I added corn for pops of yellow and sweetness, jalapeños for heat and green splashes and cucumbers for the fresh flavor. It looked and tasted fresh and great. To be honest, this location was good but now sucks. I wasn't going to say anything but the last few times coming to this franchise it has been terrible. We ordered food 25min prior to come to find nothing ready, and all employees were on their phones. The employee that was making the bowl made it seem like I was an inconvenience. I made my bowl and was a little nervous I may have not chosen the best mix of flavors (I can get over zealous and choose too much at times). I ordered a regular poke bowl and at first I was a little concerned about the amount of rice that went in but she stuffed that thing full. I liked that the salmon was mixed in a a bowl with a the sauce and a few other ingredients because sometimes it's hard to get the perfect bite when each ingredient is put on top of the other. The only ironic thing is that ended up happening with the rest of the toppings. I loved all the new options I typically don't see, the cabbage, Kani salad, and ROASTED GARLIC. One of my favorite places! I like this location way better than the Hamden one. Everything is always fresh and tasty. Megan is THE BEST WORKER there. She is not cheap with the toppings at all and is super welcoming. I always cross my fingers that Megan is there when I walk in! As for the other workers I have to constantly repeat to add more toppings to them, which does get a bit frustrating. Megan makes the bowls also look so great and picture worthy. I'm usually pretty easy going but this just take the cake. I love poke bowls but the people that works there is a hit or miss. Today is a HUGE miss. When I first walked in, I stood there for at least 2 min to have one of the 6 people that were sitting around to take my order. Then I was asked if they can help me. Then the girl acted like I was bothering her. The whole time I was ordering she didn't put enough protein and topping that looked like there's enough in there, mostly rice. On Thursday, January 26th, I met a wonderful person. This person helped me and my daughter with a car issue in a parking lot. Not only did he help us, but he also offered to wash up in his restaurant. Yes, this person is the owner of the POKÉMOTO Hawaiian Poké in Wallingford CT. His name is Marcus. Then he offered us a free bowl on him and OMG...the bowl he had his wonderful team member put together was to die for. The Hawaiian bowl is loaded with ahi tuna, shrimp, rice, veggies, and every bit of whatever you want to add to it. It was delicious This is my first time at Pokémoto and it will not be my last. The place was a clean well-kept environment too. If you have not been to POKÉMOTO for a Hawaiian Sushi bowl then this is a must. I know what you must think, everything tastes better when it's free. Pokemoto is a great place. It's nice to have poke outside of New Haven, the selection is better than you might expect, and the ingredients are always fairly fresh. In Hamden or New Haven, I love going to Pokemoto. So this is the point of the review where you're wondering: why only 1 star? All of that remains true for the Wallingford location, but there's one big caveat. The Wallingford Pokemoto appears to be staffed, at any time of the day or night, from top to bottom, by the surliest, angriest, and meanest gang of teenage children this side of hell. Did you order your food online? Prepare to stand for twenty minutes watching two teenage girls argue over who should clean something in the back while your food sits a tantalizing five feet away, your name on the bag, but just out of reach. Did you pick up food for yourself and friends in separate orders? MISTAKE! That makes the Teens mad. Perhaps you'll discover a solid pad of wasabi at the bottom of your poke, as indigestible as brimstone. What a treat! The people that work there are very nice. It is a little expensive. I love this place even though I live nowhere near it. Pro tip: when driving from NYC to Boston or vice versa, eat here. I mean change your driving route to eat here. Everything else is a waste of time. (But listen, get something at Sonic--just down the road--for later if you have to!) The bowls run large here and are packed. I got a small poke bowl--brown rice, tuna, tofu, edamame, mixed greens, cucumber, scallions, hijiki, cabbage, cilantro jalapeño, carrot, cabbage, a lil sauce--scallion hot oil and yuzu--furikake and crispy onions. I added sesame oil, too. ~13 bucks for a small bowl that eats like a big bowl, and kept me full for five full hours. I was helped by a wonderful staffer who really took her time explaining things to me. (Could that be Melissa? Wallingford Pokémoto franchise owners: make her the manager, pls!) Last words: even though I have eaten poke loads of times on the Big Island--where I get it from the Choice Mart grocery store in Captain Cook or my kamai'iana school friends make it for me in their kitchens--I have never eaten it in the City because c'mon, I make my own lunch. A favorite spot! They have so many options to choose from, and the value is really good considering that you can choose 2 or 3 proteins each for the same base price. I've never tried the burritos- only the bowls, which are delicious. The miso soup is very tasty as well, and the whole meal tastes fresh. The staff is really friendly here, and they load the bowl way up. I didn't realize but they had just opened & were brand new. The employees were friendly and pleasant, though seemed a little annoyed that I didn't know what was going on. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I should have gotten a smaller size but it was still delicious. I love that there were many topping options and the fish was so fresh. This beats chipotle by a long shot, as far as bowl-based meals go! I hope to find Poké locally since I don't live nearby (I am 2 hours away) and am glad this was my first go around! read more

So I really enjoy Pokemoto. I've never been to any other locations but this one (they are very far from each other so the one in my town is the best for me). The staff really really sweet and gave me a really good recommendation for my first time I visited and didn't really understand how to order. The fish isn't the best in the world but it's fresh and not fishy, and they have really good mix ins and lots of great toppings to toss on too. I enjoy being able to come in and then leave quickly because for myself, I enjoy eating alone without interaction much with servers. It's clean and there's also boba right next door!!! Poke is one of my favorite foods! Im not a fan of raw fish, so i usually go for veggie sushi's or chicken teumpra, so i like to make a spicy chicken bowl with spicy mayo here. I used to go to the one in New Haven and I was excited to see one opened closer to me. Unfortunately the spicy mayo at the wallingford one was much spicier, too much for me to handle :( the food didnt really taste as fresh either, but maybe i just didnt like the sauce not sure. hopefully next time i go they've perfected it. Everytime we get delivery and order large bowls, they give us the small/regular bowls. Everytime we order pickup and order 2-3 bowls, they make only one and we have to wait while they correct it and make the others. The food is great quality and it's delicious but how many times can they mess up your order? I'm making this a 5 star review because I don't think they deserve a bad review.
