We tried take out this time and were delighted! The apps were fresh and delicious, all the usual sides came, including that fantastic ginger sauce salad, and we had so much leftover food for the next day.

One thing I really like about trying different sushi restaurants is their ability to be creative especially in the use of ingredients. Last night we had one roll that featured kiwi fruit and another that featured strawberry. The fish was very fresh in all the rolls we ordered and all the rolls tasted great. The staff was quick and friendly and the place was fresh and clean. Can't wait to go back again for more sushi and to try their hibachi. Half the restaurant has Teppanyaki grills and a full hibachi menu.

First time at Iron Chef and first time in a long time having hibachi. The restaurant is located within a strip mall with clear signage making it easy to find and ample parking. The restaurant has a separate room/space for diners choosing hibachi. The set up around the hibachi station did not feel crowded, and each seat allowed for a great view of the "show". The service was quick and the chef created a fun atmosphere for us diners. My friends and I chose hibachi dinners, each getting some combination of meat and fish. The portions were large with each dinner coming with rice, noodles, vegetables, 2 shrimp, and your choice of protein(s). The meal was delicious, seasoned nicely, and served with two types of dipping sauces (ginger sauce and yum yum sauce). I had forgotten how much I enjoyed hibachi, both the food and experience, and will definitely be returning to Iron Chef!

Really good sushi and hibachi! The portions are filling and I enjoyed eating here. My only issue with this location is the service is a little messy. 2 different servers not understanding that one already took our order and came over to ask if we were ready to order, then I had to ask several servers to refill the water. The food takes a long time to come out as well. However, I highly recommend the rolls they're so good!!

I love Iron Chef for anytime i'm craving sushi near home. It is a cute little restaurant not too far off route 5 in Wallingford and very easy to get to. The servers are always very polite and attentive to your needs. To start I had the peeper tuna which was super fresh and always delicious. For dinner I had the filet mignon and scallop hibachi combo. So May restaurants have stopped serving the hibachi sauces since Covid so it was a nice relief to see that this restaurant still did. My filet was cooked to the perfect temperature and it was juicy. The scallops were seared very well and were also amazing. Iron Chef also has wonderful martinis I had a French martini to die for. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the Wallingford area.

Was in this area for a concert and came across this place. The restaurant was nice inside and very clean. We ordered basil fried rice. Also I always have to get my seaweed salad lol I orded a basic tuna roll and a specialty roll called super volcano. This so far, is the BEST roll I've ever eaten. It's shrimp tempura , avocado, asparagus, spicy crab meat..topped with filet mignon and teriyaki Sauce. It was so delicious. Everything we had was great. Had a nice glass of white wine, it was awesome. Definitely a must try.

Always amazing service and elevated atmosphere. We go here for special occasions and that's how you feel when you are there, special. The food could not be better. The price of the meal is worth every penny. You know when you come here you're getting fresh, unbelievable food.

It was a humble reminder that you don't need to go to a culinary destination to find good food. Cheshire Connecticut may not be known for its food scene, however, I found Sakana was a genuine diamond in the rough. My expectations were admittedly low going in. My level of skepticism is always high when I see the "Asian Bistro" moniker, as it is frequently used for restaurants to try to appeal to the masses at the expense of quality by having a "jack-of-all-trades" menu that lacks the technical intricacies and mastery required for specific dishes. Additionally, these establishments tend to follow a "cookie-cutter" menu and offer the same boring dishes you can find at every other Asian Bistro. Even when initially walking towards the restaurant, I had my doubts. The exterior of Sakana honestly looked more like a clinic than a restaurant. Once I saw the menu however, my skepticism shifted towards optimism. For a local bistro, they feature a surprisingly extensive wine and cocktail menu, including premium sake options. I was particularly impressed to find toro on the menu; although it's undoubtedly becoming more of a trend in Connecticut, I was nevertheless happy to see it offered at Sakana as well. Overall I liked their sushi selections and everything I ordered was well-prepared and tasted fresh. We ordered a chicken and broccoli for our daughter and found the chicken tender and broccoli perfectly cooked. That may not sound impressive to those reading, but you'll be surprised how many restaurants fail to execute this baseline dish correctly. The service, although pleasant, was probably the only "weak link" of our experiences here. The quality of service was noticeably inconsistent between our two visits, and they would benefit vastly from having a more reliable and experienced front-of-house team to match the execution coming from the kitchen and sushi bar. Despite this minor gripe, Sakana was a standout. As long as I'm in the area, they will definitely be among the top of my list of places to eat!

So friendly. Is the food exceptional? To me no, but my parents enjoy it. Tonight we started with crab rangoons. Pretty good. Sauce on the side not very exciting. A chili sauce would be better. I got a sushi roll with White tuna inside and cooked shrimp on top and wasabi mayo. I forget the name of the roll but it was better than the two times I've ordered takeout. Miso soup was also good. Their soup bowls are in the shape of a heart which is super cute. Dad got some sort of a mixed protein dish with brown sauce (had shrimp, chicken and beef). Mom got the chicken and garlic sauce. They both got fried rice on the side. I tried it and it was very bland. Dad also got a salad with his meal and the ginger dressing was not very good. Red coloring to it. Usually ginger dressing is more on the orange side. Dad also got the Malaysian chicken coconut soup to start and it could use a bit more flavor. Was a bit watery. Mom loved her sweet and sour soup. Nice that this place is 5 minutes away. Cheshire needs more restaurants. Def not my fav restaurant in town though. Food to me is just ok.

Ordering was easy and can be done online. There was a lot of parking and inside looks clean and organized. I picked up my order and everything was packed neatly. I ordered the general tso lunch special that comes with soup and egg roll. I also a shrimp tempura roll. Let's say I go enough food for two lunches. The shrimp tempura roll was good. Not a lot of rice on it, the way I like it. The hot and sour soup was thicker than I like but good. The egg roll was pretty standard, there was a lot of cabbage in it that I didn't mind. The general tso could have been more crispy but that is just my preference. The fried rice was good but could use a bit more seasoning. Overall it was good and that was lot of food for $20. I would definitely come back and maybe eat in.

It was an older woman watching videos on her phone on full volume. The restaurant was warmer than I would have liked, the AC was not fantastic. We ordered drinks, I asked if they had the hot Chinese tea and they said yes. They brought me a cup of what tasted like hot dishwater. They didn't bring any sweeteners. I didn't drink it. The server never asked about it and did charge me for it. My husband ordered a mai tai which he said was fine. I had heard good things about the crab Rangoon, so we ordered those and I asked for the crispy noodles. The crab Rangoon were just ok, and noticeably absent was any sauce to dip them in. The crispy noodles were a bit off, maybe not fried long enough? They were just not as good as they are at other spots, and the duck sauce was sweeter than your average duck sauce. The hot and sour soup was better than average and honestly was the best part of the meal. My husband said his wonton soup was good as well. The meals came out, and I was not impressed. Very small portions of the main meal. For $14.50, I would expect more. The rice was very bland, and it was odd that it had red onions in it. Not a typical Chinese ingredient. I ate two bites and didn't bother with the rest. The chicken with garlic sauce was also fairly bland and the sauce was clumpy and congealed so there was a gelatinous pile on the plate but some of the chicken wasn't covered at all. Too much cornstarch, I'm guessing. The egg roll was fine and was what I ate, but it was not the best I've had. I boxed up pretty much my entire meal and again, the server did not seem to care to ask if anything was wrong and why I hadn't eaten it. I took it home and recooked it myself with additional seasonings, and it was much better! Overall, food was blah, service was blah, and you may have to listen to some lady's videos on blast the whole time if you dine in. I was not impressed, and probably wouldn't have reviewed it, it's just that my experience was such a stark contrast to other reviews, that I wanted to share to ensure people know that not everyone loves it.

At the time, I found the ramen competent and the interior pristine, spacious, and modern. Returning for a second visit, I'm happy to report they have withstood the test of time, maintaining high standards for both food quality and cleanliness. To provide context: when Roishi first opened, it felt like ramen shops were everywhere. Fast-forward a few years, fewer shops remain, and unfortunately, many of those survivors just don't stand out to me. The mid-range sushi scene has proven equally unimpressive. Aside from high-end establishments like Hachiroku Handroll Bar, or the outstanding Gohan in Southington, most mid-range joints disappoint with mediocre quality and a lack of creativity. Many may start off strong in quality, like Niu Sushi in East Haven or Sayori in Orange, but eventually their standards slip over time. In the current food scene in Connecticut, finding a restaurant that excels at both ramen and sushi is a rarity. While I enjoy the Spicy Miso at Akatsuki in Hamden, their sushi remains lackluster. Conversely, from what I recall when they initially opened, the sushi at Takumi in Branford impressed me, but their ramen has disappointed. This is where Roishi shines. Perhaps my previous disappointments at other establishments have made me quick to judge, or maybe I simply caught Roishi on an exceptionally good day. Regardless, our last experience at Roishi has won me over, and it has officially become (for now) my go-to for a satisfying bowl of ramen paired with fresh, creative sushi rolls. It is clear the sushi chefs put effort into curating their menu and making their rolls look visually appealing. Our server was pleasant, professional and attentive without being overbearing. While the menu would benefit from rotating specials featuring higher grade ingredients, the restaurant's ability to maintain standards and consistency is a rarity, and is the primary reason I will continue to return as long as they continue to do so!

Prices run a bit high, but the quality of the ingredients more than make up for it. The Jako Salad (4.5/5) is a favorite of mine. It perfectly mixes peppery arugula and crisp radish with a poached egg, fried baby anchovy, bonito flakes, and nori. The baby anchovy gives a sweet/salty crunch that tastes like my childhood. Every bite swings between fresh and umami in a really creative way. The harasu don (5/5) is pure richness in a rice bowl. Grilled salmon belly and salmon roe together are incredibly rich, almost to the edge of too much, but the warm rice underneath keeps it grounded and turns it into a perfect comfort dish. The giant octopus sashimi (4/5) is a great counterbalance, cleanly sliced with a firm, fresh bite that lightens things up. The fresh tofu with uni (5/5) might be my favorite plate. The tofu is ultra delicate, and the rich uni on top adds a briny depth. With the simple seasonings on the side, it's a savory panna cotta. If they ever did a dessert version with ginger syrup, I would be here daily. Sashimi here is excellent (5/5). You get a balanced mix of fatty cuts like otoro and leaner ones like akami, along with hamachi, katsuo, and octopus. The variety lets you move between clean and rich bites at your own pace. A side note. Every so often a piece of yamamomo shows up on the plate (small red berries), a little mountain peach that is sweet enough to outshine most desserts. It may just be a palette cleanser, but it is a personal 10/5 for me. So good! Both indoor and outdoor seating feel comfortable, and service was on point: kind, attentive, and well timed. Overall, this is a standout Japanese option that I would highly recommend if you're ever in New Haven.

Hachiroku was a highly anticipated place after being nominated for Restaurant of the Year in New…read moreHaven County for Connecticut Restaurant Association's annual Crazies awards so I had it on my list of must go to restaurants. I have also never been to a sake bar. Have to say....I was underwhelmed. We came in last Friday and apparently it was slow because Yale was off (according to our waiter). If a restaurant is good they should not be slow on a Friday night. We sat by the door on a cold night and there were two other couples practically on top of us. Rest of the seating are high tops against a wall by the bar or up the stairs on another level. We would have liked to sit upstairs but they were closing off that area. Menu was complex as the restaurant is authentic Japanese. Lots of beef options. Lots of Wagyu. I was hoping to be blown away by this restaurant trying something different. I was struggling trying to find something to order that sounded appetizing. I knew going in that this place was authentic Japanese but I don't know, nothing sounded great to me. I love mushrooms so I got the Mixed Kinoko Mushroom appetizer which was $15. To add scallops was another $8. Mushrooms were tasty. Scallops were not. $23 for a small dish. I also got the pork short ribs. Not a ton of meat on them, however, nice flavor. I was still hungry after this so I ordered a dessert which was the best part of the meal. They get some of their desserts from Hen & Heifer which is a well established place in Guilford. I got the Ube Panna cotta. Boyfriend got the Black cod Yu-an Yaki and upgraded to add the salad, pickles and rice for $3 more. The pickles were maybe two bites. Salad tasty but again, very small. He said the cod was just ok too. Very small portions and pricey for what you get. $30 for a mini sake flight. Not impressed with how it was served either. Small tasting glasses just placed on the table with no description. The server explained which was which, but I didn't remember. Not sure if he didn't care or this is how it's normally served, but if you go to a wine bar/brewery, they provide descriptions with flights usually written underneath the glass, or at least serve it in something. Not just tiny glasses placed on a table where you have no idea what you're having. Especially for $30! I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. As this is part of a newer restaurant group with a few different locations nearby in New Haven, we then went to their cocktail Lounge on crown street (116 Cocktail Bar) thinking it might be better, however we were equally disappointed. It was dead in there and the bartenders were miserable. They couldn't wait to get out of there. I have heard that their hand roll bar is very good (Handroll on State St). We have been to their Grocery Store called The Loop and it's cute. They have a brunch at the Grocery/Kitchen location that looks really good. They also have a wine lounge at The Loop that I'd like to try.
