We were a group of 20+ people the day after Thanksgiving. We called to make sure it was OK to load up. They accepted and the service was really good. The food was excellent and hit the spot after all the food the previous day. (Satisfying different taste buds). Lot of orders around the table, with drinks. They managed it really well. (Given the lethargic start to the day after Thanksgiving everywhere) Great spot.
I'm glad I revisited Roishi, having only dined there once during the first few weeks of their grand opening. At the time, I found the ramen competent and the interior pristine, spacious, and modern. Returning for a second visit, I'm happy to report they have withstood the test of time, maintaining high standards for both food quality and cleanliness. To provide context: when Roishi first opened, it felt like ramen shops were everywhere. Fast-forward a few years, fewer shops remain, and unfortunately, many of those survivors just don't stand out to me. The mid-range sushi scene has proven equally unimpressive. Aside from high-end establishments like Hachiroku Handroll Bar, or the outstanding Gohan in Southington, most mid-range joints disappoint with mediocre quality and a lack of creativity. Many may start off strong in quality, like Niu Sushi in East Haven or Sayori in Orange, but eventually their standards slip over time. In the current food scene in Connecticut, finding a restaurant that excels at both ramen and sushi is a rarity. While I enjoy the Spicy Miso at Akatsuki in Hamden, their sushi remains lackluster. Conversely, from what I recall when they initially opened, the sushi at Takumi in Branford impressed me, but their ramen has disappointed. This is where Roishi shines. Perhaps my previous disappointments at other establishments have made me quick to judge, or maybe I simply caught Roishi on an exceptionally good day. Regardless, our last experience at Roishi has won me over, and it has officially become (for now) my go-to for a satisfying bowl of ramen paired with fresh, creative sushi rolls. It is clear the sushi chefs put effort into curating their menu and making their rolls look visually appealing. Our server was pleasant, professional and attentive without being overbearing. While the menu would benefit from rotating specials featuring higher grade ingredients, the restaurant's ability to maintain standards and consistency is a rarity, and is the primary reason I will continue to return as long as they continue to do so!
The service and the ambiance at Roishi were great! We arrived there pretty late in the night with about 40 mins left before they closed. We got our order pretty quickly after we placed it. We finished our meal and were out on the road to resume our roadtrip in no more than 30 mins. We got the chicken fried rice and the shoyu ramen. Usually, fried rice can be meh, but their fried rice was quite good. I liked the raw chopped red onions in their fried rice. It was salty, savory and had a burst of umami. The rice had the right texture and the shreds of chicken were cooked and seasoned well. Their ramen was amazing too. The broth was deep, thick, and hit you with umami. It wasn't overtly salty. I liked the bamboo shoots and the chasu as well. The chasu fat melted in your mouth and the meat was tender. The noodles were al dente and had that good snap to it. All in all, both items were done well. I recommend giving this place a visit.
A friend and I went here for lunch. Everything was very good fresh and delicious. My\nFriend was very excited once she started eating said. How great everything was. Talk about a healthy option. I loved it.I can't wait to go back and try something new on the menu.
I had to make a quick trip to New Haven for work. I got stuck in traffic on the way down so I didn't feel like going far for dinner, so luckily Roishi is right near my hotel! I really like the decor inside the restaurant, there are really neat graphic panels and tapestries all around. My server was kind and got my order in quickly - the kitchen worked fast, too. My shumai and my ramen were both really tasty! This is a great spot!
The sushi here is amazing. Every single roll we ordered was excellent. We had the spider roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado and shrimp tempura. All were fresh and excellent. For an appetizer we ordered the pan fried chives dumplings. Those were a revelation. The miso soup was not the usual afterthought but a legit homemade soup. The house salad was also amazing. The interior is beautiful and the service is on point.
Beautiful inside, greeted right away and staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was super fresh. They even make their own boba for the drinks. Soup dumplings were delicious, crab Rangoon was good, sushi and ramen were both top tier. Amazing selection of fish. Better than your average sushi restaurant with Toro, blue fin tuna and big eye tuna
Perfect lunch to go! Was at a training at ACES and had about 30 mins to grab lunch. Ordered in the parking lot, drove the 4 minutes down the road, it was ready 3 minutes later (and even texted me it would be earlier than anticipated). Boba tea was the perfect ratio of tea to tapioca. Sushi was delicious. The fried rice was tasty, just overpriced in my opinion. Would definitely stop by again if I was in the area!
At Roishi you can order from some of the Japanese faves like ramen, sushi and even sake. Their Asian inspired dishes are fresh and flavorful thanks to their quality ingredients. Came here on a rainy evening and it was the perfect time to order some comfort food after a rough day. Of course, ramen called my name. Served in a HUGE bowl (their portions are pretty big), their delicious vegetable ramen was exploding with flavor and delicious textures. Eat, slurp, repeat. Before indulging in their dreamy ramen, we snacked on the spicy edamame and I sipped my little taro bubble tea happily ever after. Great spot to come to. Lots of college students hanging out. Great place for comfort (AND DELICIOUS) food.
Stopped in today for a takeout lunch when I was craving sushi. Very good service, order was fast and delicious. A tiny bit pricey.
this is the best sushi I've had in the New Haven area hands-down the whole time I've been living in Connecticut I've not had sushi!
We have ordered from Roishi many times and have had nothing less than a great meal! Looking forward to trying their dim sum menu!

Amazing place. The set up is very well decorated and friendly. The staff was very helpful with the menu and at giving us great recommendations. The food was full of flavor and definitely left us wanting more. I REALLY LOVED the juice here. I recommend them all. Authentic, well priced and very worth it. Highly recommend. read more
Still enjoy this place very much. Came here with my parents last night so my dad could try ramen for the first time. I got my usual Tonkatsu Ramen, and I'm pretty much gluten-free now so I got it with the rice noodles instead of normal Ramen noodles so not as good as the Ramen noodles but everything else in the soup is great. It's pretty common to get a ton of noodles with Ramen, but I almost wish they could cut them in half and give you more broth. I might try asking for that next time or see if it's an add-on option. We also got the popcorn chicken, the crab Rangoon's, and a spicy crab roll. Crab Rangoon's were some of the best I've ever had with lots of filling in them. Spring rolls really delicious flavor, the spicy crab roll really good and the braised beef Ramen had a nice clove flavor to it. Beef not the best cut of meat. Almost like stew beef? Popcorn chicken pretty flavorful. Could maybe use a sauce with it. They brought out duck sauce for us, but it didn't really go with that chicken. Nice ambience in here. I usually get takeout, but this was my second time dining in and was a nice experience. read more

Tried this place on a whim after seeing the 4.4 stars on Yelp, and once again, my fellow reviewers did not steer me wrong. This spot absolutely did not disappoint. The ramen was fantastic, but honestly, the service was even better. Everything came out super quickly, the restaurant was spotless, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I ordered the shrimp tempura ramen and it was SO good. The shrimp tempura stayed crispy, the broth was flavorful, and the portion was generous. We also got the edamame, which tasted really fresh with the perfect crisp bite to it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to fully commit to the spicy garlic sauce, so I asked for it on the side... and immediately fell in love with it. We ended up dipping EVERYTHING in it, including the dumplings, which were absolutely delicious. My friend ordered a boba tea without the boba and really enjoyed it. They also got a sushi roll, and I tried some of the California roll myself. Sometimes all you want is a nice, fresh piece of sushi, and this definitely delivered. Also, points for serving the Diet Coke in a bottle. Nothing is worse than an inconsistent fountain! If we're ever back in the New Haven/Hamden area, this will absolutely be our go-to ramen spot. We'll definitely be back! read more

don't get octopus balls unless you like thick cream in your mouth, the chicken fried rice is a solid 8/10, the crab roll tasted dry honestly I've had better crab roll at shop rite, can't go wrong with the sweet potato fries tho, the miso soup wasn't bad for $4.50 for decent sized bowl, the roishi wings are fire and had about 6-8 wings. read more

Went here since we were staying at the hotel across the street. Ordered a lot of food! Portion sizes were kinda small, but each dish was relatively inexpensive. For starters, we ordered the spicy garlic edamame, scallion pancake, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and sexy salmon roll. All were very flavorful, with my favorite being the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. We also got the avocado salmon roll, cucumber eel roll, and California roll. All of them were fresh and flavorful. There were 8 slices per roll. The chicken fried rice was also good. I got a lychee tea with lychee jelly (each drink comes with one free topping). It was pretty large with a good sweet lychee flavor. The restaurant was empty when we went since it was 2pm. Everything felt clean. Food came out quickly and at the right temperature. Server was very friendly. read more

I chose Roishi for a lunch date. It was actually a first date with someone I met on Hinge. I live in Vermont, but drive down to Branford, CT regularly to see my parents. I am always looking for new spots to try in the New Haven area, particularly Asian/Japanese/sushi. I don't eat beef, pork or poultry. I do eat pretty much all the creatures of the sea and Asian cuisines are perfect for that. Vermont is, honestly, a restaurant desert. We have few choices and most are not great. So I am always excited to try a new place when I'm in CT. Hamden really has quite a few places to eat and Asian restaurants are well represented. I was specifically looking for a place with good food and good vibes. As in a nice, comfortable interior where you could potentially get to know someone over a meal. I checked out all the photos of Roishi online and I read through their menu. The interior looked nice, with booths and a bar with TVs behind. Nice, chill vibe and there were plenty of options for me on the menu. Roishi has a full Ramen menu (which definitely was not for me on a first date...slurping my way through a huge bowl of soup! LOL) and all sorts of Bubble Tea. For those who are into Boba. I don't think Roishi is a chain. But the building is SO NICE I felt like maybe it took chain money to build it (LOL). It is a very new seeming, stand alone, building that is pretty much entirely glass on two sides. So you can sit in a booth right in the window. Which we did. The booths are very comfortable and there is a ton of natural light from the window. I thought it was a perfect spot for a first date: comfortable, nice, chill. I was wanting to have some sake with my lunch and checked online to make sure they served it. They do, but they have a super limited selection. So I got one of those sort of single serving, pop top glass bottles. It was fine. Nothing great. But drinkable! We shared a series of rolls. I ordered one or two at a time so we could talk and eat and go at our own pace. The date was going GREAT, so this approach allowed us to be there for hours and to be eating something the whole time. If your date is not going great you can just order your rolls, eat them and get out! Which is another reason why Roishi is the perfect choice for a first date. We started out with the Baja Roll: Tuna, yellowtail, jalapeño, cilantro and tobiko inside with guacamole and crispy spring sheet with cilantro emulsion . It sounded good and it was good! The guacamole is definitely just pre mashed avocado they buy (i.e., not freshly made), but ingredients were good otherwise and the roll was well made and tasty. Then I ordered the Roishi Roll (white tuna, yellow tail, avocado, tobiko inside green soy wrap, tuna, salmon and spicy mayo outside) and the Whitney Avenue Roll (tuna, salmon, spicy mayo, with no crunch. I do not like the crunch bits that are added to everything and it fills me up too quickly so I can't eat as much. Plus, who amongst us needs to be eating MORE fried things?? Date was still going really well, so I ordered their vegetable roll, the salmon avocado roll and the spicy salmon roll with no crunch. Everything was really good. Super solid rolls. Well made/constructed. Properly sized and cut. I bet the ramen is really good... Strongly recommend. read more

Finally decided to dine in, instead of take out. Probably the best kept secret for "happy hour". We sat at the sushi bar and ordered apps, sushi, 2 Asahi beers and hot sake. I'm a novice to sushi but what I've been getting lately at other places is 6 pieces for an order. Roishi is 8 at an incredible price point. It's almost like tapas style in my opinion. Main dining room was busy and even with that all our order came out quick, hot, fresh, and Delicious. Best part...I think the entire bill was $45, not including tip. Ridiculous value for your money which is where a lot of restaurants are missing/lacking. Will continue to make this a weekly "date night" happy hour spot with my wife. read more

Came here on Tuesday for the first time and had to come back to try more! The restaurant is clean and well decorated- great ambiance. Also I think the Whitney roll is my new favorite sushi roll ever. Many options that I am looking forward to trying next time. My 5 year old loved that they had the easy chopsticks. We were seated and waited on quickly. 6 out of 5 stars! read more

Very nice ambience! The decoration is beautiful, and it's a brand new building. I was in awe when I walked in. We ordered ramen, takoyaki, and matcha milk tea. The matcha tea was so good and it was so fun it came in their own little boba tea container. The food was tasty and I wish we had more appetite cause I would've wanted to also try the sushi too. read more

Food: Great! I wanted one of everything, I might go back a second time before I leave the area for the ramen! I had the gyoza, steamed buns and yakitori. They were quick to come out and tasted amazing! Service: My server was very polite. Her English wasn't the greatest, but it was easy to communicate what I wanted! She was very cordial and accommodating to me; not being from the area, a first timer, and super hungry! Ambience: The restaurant is really cool! Decorated very vibrantly and the art on the walls are beautiful. Lots of seating, very comfortable atmosphere. Thanks for a great dinner! Zoe read more

Roishi is one of Hamden's best spots for Japanese food. Their dishes are consistently high quality and delicious. This time I got vegan food for myself; the calamari was for a family member. I don't know how they do it, but the broth in their veggie ramen is so creamy and savory. Noodles have good chew and flavor, all the toppings are delicious as well. The gyoza are about what you'd expect, but they're quite good. I usually don't like oshinko (a type of Japanese pickle) but it's delicious in the vegetable roll. The sweet potato roll was also very good, plenty of sweet sauce on top without it being too much. The edamame were fresh and healthy. I didn't try the calamari, but my family member said they were crispy and delicious and the dipping sauce was very nice as well. We've been going to Roishi ever since it opened and we haven't been disappointed once. You won't be either. read more

We are new in town and went to check out Roishi and it was great. Really tasty food. My husband got ramen and he enjoyed it. I got sushi and it was tasty. We also got the veggie and shrimp tempura which was good as well. Scallion pancake was crunch as I like it. Service was really good and the place is cute. Definitely coming back again! read more
This place is a hidden gem! Great stop right off route 15. The food, service, & ambiance were spectacular. The Tan Tan Ramen was amazing. It had the perfect amount of spice & the broth was so flavorful. The Roishi roll was so fresh & hearty. They also serve alcohol with a few beer & wine choices. I will definitely come back next time I'm traveling in the area. read more
