While in the Denver area I sought real, authentic Chinese/Szechuan and this place had decent reviews, so I came here. The staff was friendly enough, but the food wasn't all that great, maybe for typical Americans looking for basic Chinese, but it definitely didn't meet my expectations. When we heard that Noodles Express was going to close, my friends and I were like we must visit. It's a truly hole in the wall restaurant. From the outside, it doesn't look really impressive and the interior isn't a standout. Service is pretty meh but nothing shocking. But the food is actually the reason why you should visit. The food is really good. Everything we ordered was pretty flavorful. There's a spice with most of the dishes we ordered so while one dish may not be spicy, it can add up when you have multiple dishes. My favorite was the fried pork intestine. That was so delicious and tasty. It was crispy. I'm craving them as I write this. Possibly one of the better intestines place in Colorado. Sesame chicken was okay, a little heavy on the breading and the taiwan noodle soup the broth tasted like water but the meat was soft and the noodles were chewy, but an overall pass on these dishes for me. The dumpling is very mainland Chinese style with more meat than veg, and flavor is almost a licorice undertone, so while it's fine it's not my style of dumpling. I decided to try this place out because of the reviews. Had the Mongolian beef as recommended by other others. I was gravely disappointed. I asked for noodles with the beef because I know other people have done so but she said no it only comes with rice so I said OK. My food was ready in five minutes, and I could tell that this food had been sitting there for a while. The beef was soaked in oil and a majority of it puts onions and green beans very few pieces of actual beef. The price on the menu you said $17 but then I was charged 25. Disappointed! And while there is a section on the menu dedicated to "American Favorites" you are doing yourself a disservice unless you sample some of well-prepared and authentic Szechuan dishes. Tongue-numbing goodness, yes. Think fish boiled in chili oil, Dan Dan Noodles, beef noodle soup. If you like fish try the dried fish fried rice: a salty and savory flavor bomb. The eggplant and chicken was the best we can remember with a texture and smokiness only achievable on a very hot wok. This seems like a family-run joint and everyone was welcoming and so friendly. Noodle Express is a regular, run of the mill Chinese food restaurant. Nothing stands out as a memorable dish or something that you could only get at Noodle Express. As the kids these days would say, "it's mid." I ordered four completely different dishes, yet three basically had the same spicy, oily reddish sauce. I didn't love them, but I don't have anything bad to say about them, they just weren't exceptional like the others. Mapo tofu - not my favorite mapo tofu I've had. Not bad, but again, not amazing like some of the other dishes. Maybe 5/10 spicy - a little too hot for me. I've only ever gotten carry out, and the food is always ready really quickly. Additionally, there's a warmth from the employees that I really appreciate. I have searched Yelp on a somewhat regular basis for Dan Dan noodles. Perusing what seems to be limited options, and feeling annoyed that there isn't more Sichuan food in Denver. Well clearly there must have been a hole in my searching, because one day I came across Noodles Express, and my prayers were answered. I enlisted a friend to help me consume an obscenely large delivery order (placed through Door Dash), because I was too excited to order sensibly. We mixed in some milder dishes in case the heat was too much. All in all we got: -Cucumbers--Spicy and refreshing! (Probably the hottest dish we had, and I couldn't stop eating them). -Pork Buns--Perfect Fluffy tasteballs. -Dan Dan Noodles--Yum! Going forward I would request to have it pre-mixed like another reviewer noted to make sure it's (even) perfection. -Eggplant with Garlic Sauce--Fantastically silky and flavorful, but like others have noted this came with added **pork** though it's not specified in the menu description. -Twice Cooked Fish--Absolutely tantalizing. Loved every bite! -Mongolian Beef--Solidly delicious non-spicy offering. -Bok Choy with Garlic--I found this to be the least exciting dish, but it was a generous portion and served our purpose of cutting the spice. This place has noodles in its name, but they seem to focus on Sichaun food (川菜). I love sichaun peppercorn and the numbing spiciness it brings to dishes. However, the Sichaun Boiled Fish （水煮鱼) was light on the numb. It was good but not great. The pork intestine was a little too vinegary for my taste, but it was cleaned well. I am new to Denver but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the best Sichaun food around. If that's true, I will probably stick to cooking 川菜 myself. read more

I've loved everything I've sampled so far, and they are also super speedy so it's easy to order ahead and pick up, or wait in your car for a few minutes if you need to stop in for any reason. So far, my favorite are: 1) The Pork buns; and 2) The preserved pepper fish. The Mapo Tofu and Dan Dan Noodles are good, but not outstanding. My ONLY complaint is that I've ordered the garlic eggplant twice now, and I keep getting the pork eggplant, which is kind of sweet and just not what I wanted or ordered.
