da Carne Asada Omelet
Martin T.

I had a ride to take some hschool kids up to "the camp". I do this every year and I've seen this cafe place but as time would have it I didn't stop for a neal. Today was different...and on the way home I stopped. Now it was later in the morning but I had breakfast on my mind. Once inside I saw the counter and there I sat. Coffee arrived a moment later and I was reading the menu. Simple and to the point, the carne asada omelet that sounds good, no potatoes fresh fruit please. It wasn't long and my breakfast arrived. Nothing fancy here Omelet and a bowl of fruit. The Omelet looked small at first but once I realized the amount of carne asada and I was sold. This bad boy was full of it asada that is and the best mix of different fruit I've seen in a long time My choice of bread was a biscuit with a dab of gravy. Gravy tasted like dry mix with a little help from the cook, good but not to memorable on parker house roll size and was "with" so..no complaint. I gobbled the breakfast and swore I'd stop in on my run to pick up the kids. We'll see. Needless to say this is a no nonsense cafe. This is a no fluff diner, the interior is quite stark, blank but I wasn't here for frills or the romance. The delicious carne asada Omelet made my stop worthwhile and certainly worthy of four star Later Foodguy-Martin

Berry waffles. Perfect for 4th of July

I stopped at the market almost across the street. They recommended this place. I'm glad we stopped by. The service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly. My waffles were so good. Thin and airy. Coffee was good. The price was also nice. I was headed to Ojai and Santa Barbara. I know if I had stopped at any of those places I would've paid double.

Steak Ranchero, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns (Well Done)

Happy to have a classic style diner in Oak View. Very clean. Love the Johnny Cash theme as he's a big part of our area. The staff were excellent. The owners were present which is always a plus. I always had a full cup of coffee because the staff were so attentive. What I ordered was different than what I expected, it was more of a stewed steak and eggs meal. The meal was actually better than what I thought I was getting. I always ask for well done hash browns, they nailed it. The biscuit that came with it was huge and fluffy. This restaurant is a California throwback to simpler times, great staff who are friendly and where you can expect a diner style setting and solid meal. Great stop for after a walk, run, bike ride. You get a lot of food for your money. Very happy we have this restaurant in Oak View!

Mmmmmm

I am a DoorDash Food Photographer, so you can imagine I get to sample a lot of dishes from a variety of restaurants. Noe's has 2 locations, one on Anapamu in Santa Barbara and one one the main road through Oak View, CA. I have only been to the Oak View one so far. This is a great little place that reminds me of local places in the 70's. Boths, tables and counter. The interior has a lot of memorbelia about Johnny Cash who used to live in Oak View. I love Johnny, so it took me back to my teens. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is great. It's a very informal place, so very comfortable. The best thing though is the food! Hats off to the cooks and managers for developing the menu. One of my favorite dishes was the blackened salmon, wow! it was some of the best I've ever had and the amazing rice on the side was a flavor I'd never tasted. It was delicious. They have a large menu with a lot of your favorite choices. Luckily it's not far from my house so I'll be back just as a regular customer. Do yourself a favor if you're in Santa Barbara or Oak View on the wy to Lake Casitas and stop by Noe's, you'll thank me

Wow! What an unexpected gem in Oak View! We stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday around 8am and it quickly got busy as we left. Super friendly staff, very clean inside but yet it still has that old school diner feel. And the food is delicious! We ordered the ABC omelet and the lemon pancakes, both of which were so so good! Skip Ojai and come here for breakfast instead!

Every detail adds to the charm, making it a wonderful place to enjoy a meal and soak in the atmosphere. It can get pretty busy, but the quality of the food is still there, which says a lot about the place. I love finding restaurants that offer not only good food but also a unique dining experience. The Dutchess is definitely worth visiting if you're in Ojai and looking for a special spot for breakfast or brunch!

This cafe is a coffee bar collective by day and Burmese wine bar by night, and it's one of Ojai's two Michelin-recommended restaurants. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that The Dutchess is one of this rustic valley town's most popular restaurants from sun-up to sundown. The journey to the patio is like a play in 4 acts. Enter into the spacious coffee bar up front, wind through the cozy dining room, and pass by the moody back-room bar before finally reaching the market-lit patio. The vast pergola is accented by traditional Burmese parasols. Both heat lamps and fans are available to tackle any weather. Potted plants surround the lacquered-wood table and French bistro wicker chairs. Soft acoustic rock plays at a relatively low volume compared to inside. My fiancee and I reserved our weekend dinner a few weeks in advance, and good thing we did -- the restaurant was booked full. We kicked off our meal with the Naan, a frisbee-sized, buttery pita paired with garlicky butter. Admittedly, it alone was the least exciting dish, but it paired well with other plates. The standout dish was the Crispy Rice Salad. The herb-forward flavor and crispy, crunchy textures combined into a crave-worthy palate-wetter. For our main, we opted for the Biryani. Ojai lamb was tossed with spiced rice and topped with fluffy puff pastry. The warm, evolving flavor was a comfortable embrace for the palate. Lastly, our side of spicy-savory Burmese Chili Paste was extra hot, and we could only handle so much; while fine to try, we didn't find it to be necessary. The service was solid throughout the night, and we were offered complimentary bubbly to celebrate our special occasion, as well as take-away chocolate chip cookies on the house. Our bill totaled a reasonable $100 (after tax and tip). My fiancee and I agreed that The Dutchess delivered a big-city-quality meal for a fraction of the cost, and we would strongly recommend it for an Ojai dinner date.

Rory's Other Place is the next-door cafe counterpart, offering the standard lineup of coffee, pastries, and brunch plates, as well as sophisticated make-your-own market boards and wines by the glass. And the most popular item? The buffalo milk soft serve affogato. The diminutive stained-glass sign is partially hidden by the royal blue awnings. Inside, natural light floods in through the narrow Victorian breakfast nooks, and a soft serve-shaped lamp hangs from the ceiling above the deftly organized pastry display. To the right is a full-length mirror with the menu scribed in white. Shelves are stocked with premium pantry goods, from imported tinned fish to matcha chocolate. Outside, Rory's Other Place hosts a private, perpetually packed patio. A mix of oldies and acoustic pop covers partially drown out the standard coffeeshop hustle and bustle. Whether for breakfast or lunch, expect the queue to stretch all the way to the bathrooms My fiancee and I visited Ojai for a weekend day trip, excited to try the Affogato. We opted for vanilla-chocolate swirl, drizzled with a half-shot of espresso (another half-shot was served on the side). The tiny portion of soft serve overflowed out of the even tinier aluminum saucer. The end result was akin to extra-strong melted coffee ice cream. We also opted for a few pastries. Of the lot, I preferred the Cheddar Chive Scone. The savory cheese really shone through, and no bite felt dry; that being said, I wish it were warm, and the cheese were gooey. Meanwhile, two-bite thumbprint cookies had a pleasant half-baked texture, but the nutty flavor overwhelmed the dime-sized dot of sauce. Our creamy iced Matcha Latte was on the better end of standard. The service was moderately efficient, and the prices were sky-high; expect $4 for tiny cookies, and over $10 for the affogato. There's no doubt that Rory's Other Place is one of the most popular cafes in town; however, I'm not convinced that it's worth the wait or the price, especially with so many other popping coffee shops within a few blocks.
