There a nice ambiance and they play nice music. Very cute and chill. The cashier/server was a nice guy, but a little awkward. I'm sure it was just an off day, though. The most important part is the foot which I thoroughly enjoyed! The ice ream was not too sweet and I liked that you can choose the level of matcha that you want.
I come here regularly for the matcha ice cream. I love how this place is to taste and provides you with different levels of matcha. From my experience, the service is pretty fast, and I like how there's a rewards system that encourages me to go back for another taste!
We were excited for the concept but ended up with a disappointing experience. When we first walked in there was a weird sewer smell. Not sure where it's coming from as it wasn't as bad towards the back which is where their bathroom is. The ordering was also odd. The staff didn't greet us nor were they helpful navigating the menu which could use more pictures and graphic design help. They didn't tell us they were out of level 3 or 4 till after we ordered. The menu mentions a small pint and large pint. A pint is a standard unit of measurement. You can't have a small or large version. The counter has the containers labeled regular and large. "Large" seems like an actual pint. While the desserts were decent they were overpriced. Since we didn't get to try level 3 or 4, the level 2 wasn't much different than what you could get elsewhere with out the sewer smell.
This location is right off the freeway, on Bellaire Street. Once you enter the parking lot, it's on the first floor, the end cap of the building. Ninja Matcha is family-owned by "Charles" and he began this business in 2018 with his wife and children. Charles is educated on the Japanese style of refined, Matcha taste. As I sat with Charles, his intention was to curate flavors that cater to a refined taste for Matcha. Thus, Ninja Matcha offers Matcha levels 1, 2 or 3 for beginners through long term Matcha addicts . The menu items include Matcha ice creams, milk teas and desserts. This is the real deal folks! The flavored syrups are home made, therefore you NEED to tell them "Level of Sweetness" otherwise, it will be too sweet. I hardly like sugar, so 20-30% sweetness is enough, while 50% is too much for me. ACCOMMODATIONS are made upon request, "easy ice", "sweetness level". "Matcha strength level" and "milk option (oat, almond, whole milk). We were finally content to find an authentic, true Asian, Matcha tea place where you can sit with a friend and catch up. I had the Mango Matcha and my 14 year old son had the Hojicho Coconut. It was well blended and tasty! Charles shared that he has also been training some employees, therefore if your Matcha is not to your taste, let him know your preference. Prices are affordable and there's no discrimination, they take all paying customers of CASH or CREDIT. Restroom is for Patron Customers and while I was there, it was clean. We sat comfortably and there was no smell that we noticed. I am assuming those who mentioned it came when there was heavy rains.
Solid dessert option in Chinatown, especially for matcha lovers. The menu features everything from ice cream to lattes to milk teas.. and I like how you can choose levels of matcha intensity (aka how much do you not want to sleep tonight lol) Service was efficient and spacious interior with a decent amount tables. Parking can be a pain depending on what time and day you go to this plaza. (Weekends in Chinatown will definitely put your driving patience to the test) I got a custom mango matcha latte and also tried out my friends' soft serve and ice cream. All are pretty solid with a good amount of sweetness. The cleanliness of the restaurant was a bit sloppy, there was a weird smell when we sat down and the bathrooms weren't maintained as well. Overall a good option in Chinatown for dessert in a competitive area. Good stop to satisfy your matcha cravings.
I heard a lot about this place and was excited to finally try it after passing by many times. I was sadly disappointed by the quality of the drink. I might return to order something else and give it another try, but I figured the matcha latte would be a classic to start with. The matcha latte I received tasted diluted, and it wasn't as smooth as expected. Another thing I noticed other reviews mentioned, and something I noticed immediately as I walked in, there is a bathroom/sewage smell. It had rained a little bit that night so it might be the rain, but it still smelled pretty bad inside. The service was good and helpful, and there were a fair amount of seats available for a Saturday night. However, in summary, for a place that focuses on matcha, I was expecting more.
Sad to say that this place has gone way down hill. We came on a Saturday after lunch around 12:30 and ordered an iced oat milk matcha latte. I asked the cashier if they had oat milk before I ordered, and he said yes. I ordered and paid, he turns around and says, oh...we don't have anymore oat milk to his coworker. So he comes to me and asks me if I would like soy or almond. I ended up just getting whole milk and put in matcha boba topping instead, for the same price of alternative milk. The drink looked amazing, but the matcha tasted weak and cheap. I'm not sure what brand of matcha they use but for being a dedicated matcha place, I would have expected higher quality. The matcha was dull, to put it kindly. The bathrooms were not maintained at all. It was dirty and unkept. So disappointing that it seems like this place has gone downhill.
ORDER Matcha shaved ice with Matcha jelly and Matcha Boba - super yummy with great Matcha flavored throughout the shaved ice. My family really liked their jelly and the Boba. The soft serve is also very delicious and creamy with good matcha flavor. Iced Matcha Latte - Great strong matcha flavor with good ratios of milk to matcha. It wasn't too sweet as well, so absolutely delicious!! VIBES Crowded on a Saturday night with some people studying and families enjoying matcha! Cute art around the interior and decently clean! SERVICE Service is great! Quick and nice!
Soft serve ice cream was what we came here for. It was not bad but not the greatest. Service was quick and attentive. The indoor decor was not bad either.
Great dessert place for matcha lovers that is also open late! We got the Matcha shaved ice, which also came with soft. Serve ice cream and two free toppings. The shaved ice had a strong matcha flavor, so it tasted great both frozen and slightly melted. We got the soft serve as a vanilla and Matcha swirl. It was very creamy and rich just the way we like it. They have a number of dessert options, including ice cream with three different strengths of Matcha. They also have a number of Matcha based drinks. Plenty of indoor seating and free parking in the complex. The service is counter service, but efficient and friendly. We love the dog murals, which were absolutely adorable in the store.
Cute spot in China Town. Menu is not huge but has what you would expect from a matcha dessert spot. Went midday on a Friday. Not crowded and quite mellow. Service was quick and attentive.
I came in after lunch and was quite skeptical but hopeful seeing the menu, I just ordered the iced matcha latte and it was so GOOD. I'm honestly quite surprised the ratings are on the lower end. The worker was nice about helping with choosing my options and my drink out very quick. The store is spacious making it a great space to hang out :)
The soft serve was amazing! It was so creamy and the vanilla and matcha flavors complimented each other so well. The service was friendly and quick. The place itself its cute and they have enough tables to chat or study if you would like.
Love love love!!! I first tried this place years ago but I haven't been back because I forgot about it. I'm so glad I passed by after so many years. This is def one of my favorite places in China town. I'm obsessed with matcha and I love all the selections to choose from. If you are huge matcha fan this spot is for you. 5/5 read more

Tried out this spot and was a nice change from my usual boba. We tried the shaved ice with matcha ice cream topped with mochi balls and red bean which was quite a large portion size. The matcha ice cream was creamy and not too sweet and the red bean provides a nice texture and sweetness. However, the shaved ice could have been softer. My friends ordered the yuzu blended float which was tangy and paired well with the combination of the matcha ice cream. Overall, a nice dessert option if you are looking for something different from your usual boba run! read more

I wished I read some of the updated reviews of this establishment before I came here. I came here on a whim mainly because I have seen it around and wanted to give it a shot. As you enter, the place was very big and spacious; which is good for studying. I was told by the person that I was with that it smelt like old water that has seeped into the building but I didn't notice it until later. We placed our order and the person who placed our order was very nice. We got an Iced Hojicha latte with Oat milk and an Iced Matcha Latte with Almond Milk. The total came out to be around $16 with a $1 charge for alternative milk(s). I noticed that the workstation was very dirty and I didn't noticed it until I paid. Not only was the workstation dirty but the bowls used to whisk the matcha was also dirty and wasn't washed so you can see all the previous matcha that was used in that bowl. Both the matcha and hojicha powders were stored in a fridge which I found odd as both those powders need to stay room temperature. A "Pro" about their drinks is the size of it as it's pretty big. At first glance, the drinks look great, the matcha was a good color and so was the hojicha. However, we took a sip of our drinks we couldn't drink anymore. I tried the matcha latte and it tasted off like it wasn't matcha at all. The hojicha was way easier to drink in my opinion but it fell short. They both tasted very harsh and hard to swallow. We ended up getting different drinks from somewhere else because of how much we didn't like the drinks. Needless to say that I was disappointed. I don't recommend this place and I suggest you get a matcha latte from somewhere else. read more
What attracted me to come here was the multitude of different matcha levels you can select for the ice cream. I distinctly remember shops in Kyoto, Japan doing this kind of selection. I like the more bitter and stronger tones of Matcha, not the westernized versions most matcha places serve. I ordered a small "pint" of the Level 3 matcha ice cream, a matcha affogato and a matcha blended float. The ice cream was delicious as expected. Incredibly rich matcha flavor and not too overwhelming. My only gripe was the matcha blended float which completely lacked any matcha flavoring for me. It tasted like a Starbucks drink, but perhaps more matcha in the drink can balance the overwhelming milkiness of it. read more
Came here after dinner because I was craving for dessert. Funny that I came to a matcha dessert place but ended up ordering pandan soft serve. I have always been curious about the taste, but I was little disappointed because the ice cream was really sweet and I don't really taste the pandan flavor, only vanilla to me. The service was ok, not really anything special. The ambience was nice though, chill music playing and the shop looks clean and neat. I love their artsy walls, great for pictures. read more

This place has a weird smell, almost like a faint stench. Or is it just me? Super nice decor inside and a Matcha dedicated menu. I tried the level 2 Matcha ice blend and it's pretty decent. Very strong matcha flavor and good ratio of ice and milk. The ice wasn't completely blended so the drink was ice crunchy! We thought it tasted best after being melted for 15-20min. There's only 1 barista and the wait was around 15min since there were a few customers. Overall it's a great experience, we'll come back to try other options but we won't be dining in. read more
Stopped by during my vacation visiting Houston. Such a lovely place with all the cute artworks. Matcha paradise was interesting with a mint taste to it. Pretty good but I would ask for a little extra sweetener. It's great that the drink was not overly sweet, I would rather appreciate it on a less sweet side. Matcha crepes was good as well. Again not overly sweet which was perfect. Highly recommending this place if you're visiting or from Houston area. read more

Fun dessert place! We got the matcha parfait and all the layers blended really well together. I especially liked the matcha ice cream and cereal together. It was really fun to make different combos every time you take a bite. We came on a weekday afternoon and there was no line. It was clean and had a nice atmosphere. read more
Solely reviewing based off of the matcha soft serve. Good sized serving for soft serve for ~$6. I enjoyed the relatively strong matcha flavor, and it was creamy without being too icy. Ninja Matcha has a wide variety of matcha drinks and desserts, which all looked delicious! read more

The matcha in both desserts was strong yet delicious. For the soft serve, the swirl was very light and had the perfect sweetness. The level 2 matcha is advertised as perfect for matcha lovers- if you are not the biggest matcha fan, I would recommend the soft serve swirl or go down to level 1. I would say it is a bit expensive for the amount that you get, but anyone who loves matcha should try this place at least once! For ambiance: as you can see in the photo, there is cute decor and a calm vibe! :) read more
Matcha!! If you're a matcha lover, you've got to try this place! Matcha soft serve, matcha ice cream (where you can pick the matcha level), matcha teas, matcha coffee, matcha Mille cakes.. you name it! I was sad they didn't have any Mille cakes when I came on a weekday! They said they get them in on the weekends and once they're sold out, they're out for the week! But I tasted the matcha soft serve and it definitely tasted like matcha! Good flavors all around! The place is super cute with some cute murals on both walls! Service was quick and friendly, but we were the only ones in the place cause they had just opened on a Wednesday! I would recommend and will be back for some of the cakes and ice cream! read more
My son wanted some ice cream so naturally we headed for some soft serve at Ninja. He's not a big fan of matcha but thankfully they also had vanilla. The place is quite large and has a good amount of seating. It smelled funny - like stagnant air, when we entered, it kinda turned me off from buying anything for a bit. The ice cream was standard soft serve and was priced reasonably. read more

I enjoyed this place. The cute murals, plentiful dessert options, and late-ish hours make it convenient for me. Now for the MATCHA- I love how they offer the roasted matcha flavor. I tried it here and the roast is incredibly earthy, nutty, and has hints of that burnt grass that matcha is usually described to having. I got the float with roasted matcha tea on the bottom and regular matcha soft serve on the top. I appreciated them letting me sample and giving good recommendations for pairing. The matcha float was rich with earthy flavors, not super sweet, and the soft serve blended with the roasted tea was an earthy delicacy. The only thing that I wasn't a giant fan of was there was a family that tried to come in around 10:40 and although their hours state 11 PM as closing time, they still stated to the family they are already closed. I don't think that's excellent customer service and i don't like when businesses don't follow through with their posted hours..imagining what if the family had driven out to make the closing time and we're shoo'ed away? Other than that, really enjoyed it here. read more

This has been one of my fav Chinatown places and I've been here a bunch of times since they re-opened. There's seating inside and all the tables are seated pretty far away. All their workers wear masks. This last time I was here I got the matcha shaved ice with mochi and red beans. It was delicious and big in size good to share with 2 others. read more

After having this place on my bookmarks for so long I was finally in the area and decided to give it a go! I originally came for the matcha crepe cake. I am constantly looking for these types of cakes because they're so airy and light but they were unfortunately out of the matcha and only had the durian and the Thai tea flavor. 2/5 stars: The Thai tea crepe cake. The taste was good but the layers got lost together. My boyfriend even asked if there was supposed to be crepe layers in it because it all just tasted like foam. I liked the flavor and still want to try the matcha but the consistency unfortunately is wrong. Perhaps it had been sitting chilled for too long 0/5 stars: Iced Hojicha Chai Tea. I was really disappointed with this drink. Taking my first sip I immediately knew I wanted to throw it away. It tasted like burnt spices, cigarettes, and ash. I love the mellow, nutty flavor of Hojicha and when done correctly, it tastes like a rounded, lightly sweet tea. Hojicha is traditionally made by roasting green tea leaves over charcoal and when done incorrectly yields a drink that tastes of ashy smoke and campfire. The girl taking our order was very curt and I wanted very badly ask for a different drink but she had already sat down and put her headphones in to go back to studying. Decor was cute, place seemed pretty clean. read more

Not that many people were there when we came Sunday night. The level 2 matcha ice cream is very balanced and has a strong matcha flavor without it being overwhelming. In contrast, the matcha soft serve on the shaved ice tastes like nothing if you eat it after eating the level 2. The cashier was nice and they were quick with our order. read more
Located in the Dun Huang plaza, everything here is obviously matcha. Spacious inside where the rolled ice cream place used to be. They have a variety of drinks, matcha soft served as well as shaved ice. Everything has some sort of matcha element to it. Some items were a hit and miss. The shaved ice had red bean, matcha swirl on top of the shaved ice. However, it fell a bit flat to me. Too many things going on at once that I couldn't quite enjoy the shaved ice altogether. Matcha parfait was alright. The matcha chocolate was good but the matcha in parfait form didn't quite sit with me. Yuzu matcha drink wasn't what I had expected with the yuzu coming out of a jar that I also have at home. On the other hand, the matcha soft served by itself was a good amount of sweetness. This is the only item that appeals to me after trying several items on the menu. read more
I love tea, especially Japanese green tea. I've never thought matcha was so delicious in ice cream until I came to Meccha Matcha. They got traditional formula with modern technology to create this sensational drink. So I read, matcha is an essential stable in a Japanese household, just like potatoes in a westerners' kitchen. I briefly chatted with the owner about the fresh ingredients in their tea products. I particularly like matcha ice creams is because they don't use milk. They use vanilla cream. Whatever that is. It's a must at Meccha Matcha when you're here for the first time. They also use organic almond milk for lactose intolerance folks. So, is the ice cream vegan? No. After reading some rebuttals on social media, none of the cream products are vegan. I'm not vegan. But in order to share this new establishment with my friends, I have to triple check. I love straight genmaicha 煎茶 aka toasted green tea. I love to watch the presentation during mixing. I drink it plain to taste the excitement in my mouth. I want to swoosh the pure tea in my mouth before swallowing the sweet flavor. It can be easily shared with friends (I prepare my own sampling cups). Because of the purity and concentration, almost everything here is caffeinated. There are few non-caffeinated items on the menu. My caffeine consumption cuts off at 8 pm. A single scoop of level 1 aka 25% matcha keeps me awake for hours to near sunrise if I had it at 11 pm. Meccha Matcha brings new live to real tea drinking community. It's more superior than all the milk rea joints in Dun Huang Plaza. Yes, it's a little pricier but it sets standard for what matcha really is. read more

Thank you Dulce for stopping by, hope to see you again soon!
Stopped by for a quick dessert, and was really impressed by their yuzu ice blended drink and the hojicha shaved ice w/green tea soft serve, mochi, and red bean. Yuzu ice blended was well blended with small chunks of yuzu which was really delightful. Ice was blended well and while it had a little bit of crushed ice taste, it was still really solid. Overall its one step away from an icee. For the shaved ice, it's always a delight when there is something aside from the plain shaved ice, or green tea shaved ice. So hojicha shaved ice was a nice delight! Eating it w/combination of moji, green tea soft serve, and red bean really hit all the my dessert cravings! So this place get bonus points in my book for a good variety and deeper selection than just the 3 levels of matcha that is their signature selling point. If I were to rate their soft serve matcha, I would say the default level 2 they server was a little on the heavier side with a good medium matcha flavor. Little sweat and a little matcha-y.. So inline with what I was expecting flavor wise, but a little too heavy in terms of texture and consistency. Service was friendly and quick. Food came out reasonably quick as well. The place is pretty new and modern with a mixture of tables and bar tables to sit at. They also have some games to play, including miniture foosball. Overall a good option if you are looking for a place to hangout with a bunch of friends, or alternatively camp out and study. This shopping center has ample parking and a parking garage as well. Price wise, this place is a little on the pricer side. For example, $4.95 yuzu ice blended. $6.95 if you make it a float. Pro yelp tip: Check in for 10% off. read more

I love it here! I knew that this place opened up recently, and was relieved to find it not too busy on a weekday afternoon. The worker was friendly enough to recommend to me the matcha treat that best suited my needs. I opted for the mixed matcha/hochija soft serve cup (~$5) with a piece of matcha chocolate (50¢ extra). I absolutely loved the matcha chocolate! I'd get more of it if I could. The hochija had a more nuttier flavor, while the regular matcha was sweeter. If you're in the mood for dessert after dinner at a next door restaurant, I recommend stopping by to fulfill your matcha craving! read more

Thank You Carissa for the kind words. We really appreciate it and…
Soft opening ahhh! People huddled off in the corner, others staring at the menu in awe. Myself included. I'm here for matcha soft serve, but other menu items offered, matcha toast, matcha latte, matcha and beans .. matcha everything and I love it! Check out process is smooth, they even accept Apple Pay! Expect to pay around $5 for a matcha soft serve. It doesn't come cheap but I'm all about quality over quantity. It was deliciousness! Creamy, not grainy, not incredibly strong Well staffed, ready for a big crown I mean crowd. Things to take away: 1) matcha levels 2) if you ask for soft serve they automatically give you level 1. Here's the levels breakdown 25%,35%,55%. Even though it looks short, the cone is more wide. The waffle cone is actually crunchy and tasty as well! Enjoy matcha lovers read more
Not my favorite matcha place. Had the soft serve. And the shaved ice. Shaved ice felt like as I was eating, got sickening to keep eating. Did not finish it. Soft serve at first was ok. But also started feeling a bit like I really couldn't finish it The matcha flavor was a bit weak. Didn't feel like I was paying for matcha ice cream. Cone for the soft serve didn't have a hint of sweetness that I usually like. Over all. Didn't please my palette. Nope. Nope. Nope. read more

Hi Woo,…
We came here after dinner for a sweet treat. We were initially going to eat at Aqua, but we came to Meccha Matcha instead since my sis and one of my friends knew this spot had just opened recently. So, I ordered the matcha soft serve here, which was strong, even though it was only level 1 potency (the least concentrated green tea flavor). It had a lovely creamy texture, and had bits of green tea in it. The only thing was it was strong enough that I couldn't sleep that night. If you want to mellow out the green tea, though, you can order it as a swirl with vanilla soft serve. Now, compared to the soft serve, the matcha ice cream didn't have as smooth of a texture. It's strange because I thought soft serve and ice cream were the same here, but they're not. Otherwise, this is a good spot to enjoy refreshing matcha treats and the cute cat wall decor. It was kind of cold sitting at the table towards the back, since it's by the ice cream station. So, wear a jacket or sweater, just in case. I'll be back, since I haven't tried any of their drinks or ice desserts yet. read more

2 stars because the soft serve we ordered was good, but the staff was EXTREMELY rude. We came on Monday, around 6:45pm and she was the only one who was working at that time. The staff was not friendly, had attitude when we asked questions. We felt not welcome at all even though we were the only group came that time. Overall, if you come here for matcha ice cream, this is a good place. If you expect good customer service like I did, this is not the place for you! read more
Had the level 2 matcha ice cream. Very strong, high grade matcha was used. Strong notes of rich umami and vegetal in the matcha ice cream, with acceptable grassiness. Excited to try Level 3. The shaved ice is a real hit as well. Pairs amazingly with red bean and soft serve, weaker matcha ice cream. Very unique even for Houston Asiatown. Inside is a standard asian-themed vibe, with ample seating and the occasional studier. Service is fast and professional. I would return any time on a hot summer day I'm craving a bump of good, good matcha. read more
Another matcha place in Chinatown?? What are the odds of that? Regardless, Meccha is a worthy opponent for many of the matcha-specialty establishments in the area. I first heard about it after seeing the Grand Opening event on Facebook, but was sadly otherwise engaged at the time. I stopped by with my sister this past Monday after lunch, mainly to satisfy my intense craving for matcha soft serve. We decided on a single serving of matcha-vanilla swirl with mochi balls. The matcha flavor was great and paired really well with the vanilla, but it was a bit sweet for my taste (I would have preferred a total matcha-flavored order). The mochi balls were squishy and delicious, and absorbed the matcha flavor well. I'm only knocking off a star because I feel like the price was a bit high considering the soft serve quantity. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be back and plan on trying some of Meccha's other offerings next time! read more
Pretty much Mecca Matcha sells specialty items with matcha as their base. I wanted something basic so I went with the matcha green tea latte. In my personal opinion, it wasn't strong enough of me. Starbucks make stronger matcha tea lattes than this place. It could of used another tablespoon . My sisters tried the yuzu with the matcha green tea ice cream. The ice cream was delicious and potent in flavor but the combination with the yuzu "fruity" flavor wasn't in unison. It was a weird combination and they wouldn't order it again. They have a cool hand drawn wall mural that is an instagram worthy backdrop to your order but that's about it. Overall a good first time experience but not sure if I'd be a regular. read more
