I definitely was not feeling this place. I got to try 3 of their items and they were lackluster & needing a lot of improvements. The place looks nice, service was okay but the desserts were close to being a joke. Here's what we ordered. * Black Sesame ice blended- it just tasted like ice with a pinch of black sesame. This drink needs a lot of help. What's sad is that we had to add some sesame sauce from the Matcha shaved ice to give it more flavor. * 2 scoops of Black sesame ice cream- it was weak in terms of any black sesame flavor & it wasn't as creamy as I would've liked it. * Matcha shaved ice with black sesame sauce with red bean- this was probably the best out of the 3. The sesame sauce was potent & flavorful. The red beans had a good amount of sweetness to it. The matcha ice cream was creamy & the matcha flavor was there. But I didn't enjoy the matcha shaved ice because it had more of a slushy consistency versus it being light, airy, fluffy & with a creamy texture. What attracted me to come here was the multitude of different matcha levels you can select for the ice cream. I distinctly remember shops in Kyoto, Japan doing this kind of selection. I like the more bitter and stronger tones of Matcha, not the westernized versions most matcha places serve. I ordered a small "pint" of the Level 3 matcha ice cream, a matcha affogato and a matcha blended float. The ice cream was delicious as expected. Incredibly rich matcha flavor and not too overwhelming. My only gripe was the matcha blended float which completely lacked any matcha flavoring for me. This place has a weird smell, almost like a faint stench. Or is it just me? Super nice decor inside and a Matcha dedicated menu. I tried the level 2 Matcha ice blend and it's pretty decent. Very strong matcha flavor and good ratio of ice and milk. The ice wasn't completely blended so the drink was ice crunchy! We thought it tasted best after being melted for 15-20min. I enjoyed this place. The cute murals, plentiful dessert options, and late-ish hours make it convenient for me. Now for the MATCHA- I love how they offer the roasted matcha flavor. I tried it here and the roast is incredibly earthy, nutty, and has hints of that burnt grass that matcha is usually described to having. I got the float with roasted matcha tea on the bottom and regular matcha soft serve on the top. I appreciated them letting me sample and giving good recommendations for pairing. The matcha float was rich with earthy flavors, not super sweet, and the soft serve blended with the roasted tea was an earthy delicacy. The only thing that I wasn't a giant fan of was there was a family that tried to come in around 10:40 and although their hours state 11 PM as closing time, they still stated to the family they are already closed. I don't think that's excellent customer service and i don't like when businesses don't follow through with their posted hours..imagining what if the family had driven out to make the closing time and we're shoo'ed away? After having this place on my bookmarks for so long I was finally in the area and decided to give it a go! I originally came for the matcha crepe cake. I am constantly looking for these types of cakes because they're so airy and light but they were unfortunately out of the matcha and only had the durian and the Thai tea flavor. 2/5 stars: The Thai tea crepe cake. The taste was good but the layers got lost together. My boyfriend even asked if there was supposed to be crepe layers in it because it all just tasted like foam. I love the mellow, nutty flavor of Hojicha and when done correctly, it tastes like a rounded, lightly sweet tea. Hojicha is traditionally made by roasting green tea leaves over charcoal and when done incorrectly yields a drink that tastes of ashy smoke and campfire. They have a variety of drinks, matcha soft served as well as shaved ice. Everything has some sort of matcha element to it. Some items were a hit and miss. The shaved ice had red bean, matcha swirl on top of the shaved ice. However, it fell a bit flat to me. Too many things going on at once that I couldn't quite enjoy the shaved ice altogether. Matcha parfait was alright. The matcha chocolate was good but the matcha in parfait form didn't quite sit with me. I love tea, especially Japanese green tea. I've never thought matcha was so delicious in ice cream until I came to Meccha Matcha. They got traditional formula with modern technology to create this sensational drink. So I read, matcha is an essential stable in a Japanese household, just like potatoes in a westerners' kitchen. I briefly chatted with the owner about the fresh ingredients in their tea products. I particularly like matcha ice creams is because they don't use milk. They use vanilla cream. Whatever that is. It's a must at Meccha Matcha when you're here for the first time. They also use organic almond milk for lactose intolerance folks. So, is the ice cream vegan? No. After reading some rebuttals on social media, none of the cream products are vegan. I'm not vegan. But in order to share this new establishment with my friends, I have to triple check. I love straight genmaicha 煎茶 aka toasted green tea. I love to watch the presentation during mixing. I drink it plain to taste the excitement in my mouth. I want to swoosh the pure tea in my mouth before swallowing the sweet flavor. It can be easily shared with friends (I prepare my own sampling cups). Because of the purity and concentration, almost everything here is caffeinated. There are few non-caffeinated items on the menu. My caffeine consumption cuts off at 8 pm. A single scoop of level 1 aka 25% matcha keeps me awake for hours to near sunrise if I had it at 11 pm. Meccha Matcha brings new live to real tea drinking community. Stopped by for a quick dessert, and was really impressed by their yuzu ice blended drink and the hojicha shaved ice w/green tea soft serve, mochi, and red bean. Overall its one step away from an icee. For the shaved ice, it's always a delight when there is something aside from the plain shaved ice, or green tea shaved ice. So hojicha shaved ice was a nice delight! Eating it w/combination of moji, green tea soft serve, and red bean really hit all the my dessert cravings! So this place get bonus points in my book for a good variety and deeper selection than just the 3 levels of matcha that is their signature selling point. If I were to rate their soft serve matcha, I would say the default level 2 they server was a little on the heavier side with a good medium matcha flavor. Little sweat and a little matcha-y.. So inline with what I was expecting flavor wise, but a little too heavy in terms of texture and consistency. Service was friendly and quick. Food came out reasonably quick as well. The place is pretty new and modern with a mixture of tables and bar tables to sit at. They also have some games to play, including miniture foosball. Overall a good option if you are looking for a place to hangout with a bunch of friends, or alternatively camp out and study. This shopping center has ample parking and a parking garage as well. I love it here! I knew that this place opened up recently, and was relieved to find it not too busy on a weekday afternoon. We came here after dinner for a sweet treat. We were initially going to eat at Aqua, but we came to Meccha Matcha instead since my sis and one of my friends knew this spot had just opened recently. So, I ordered the matcha soft serve here, which was strong, even though it was only level 1 potency (the least concentrated green tea flavor). It had a lovely creamy texture, and had bits of green tea in it. The only thing was it was strong enough that I couldn't sleep that night. If you want to mellow out the green tea, though, you can order it as a swirl with vanilla soft serve. Now, compared to the soft serve, the matcha ice cream didn't have as smooth of a texture. It's strange because I thought soft serve and ice cream were the same here, but they're not. Otherwise, this is a good spot to enjoy refreshing matcha treats and the cute cat wall decor. Another matcha place in Chinatown?? What are the odds of that? Regardless, Meccha is a worthy opponent for many of the matcha-specialty establishments in the area. I first heard about it after seeing the Grand Opening event on Facebook, but was sadly otherwise engaged at the time. I stopped by with my sister this past Monday after lunch, mainly to satisfy my intense craving for matcha soft serve. We decided on a single serving of matcha-vanilla swirl with mochi balls. The matcha flavor was great and paired really well with the vanilla, but it was a bit sweet for my taste (I would have preferred a total matcha-flavored order). The mochi balls were squishy and delicious, and absorbed the matcha flavor well. I'm only knocking off a star because I feel like the price was a bit high considering the soft serve quantity. Pretty much Mecca Matcha sells specialty items with matcha as their base. I wanted something basic so I went with the matcha green tea latte. In my personal opinion, it wasn't strong enough of me. The ice cream was delicious and potent in flavor but the combination with the yuzu "fruity" flavor wasn't in unison. It was a weird combination and they wouldn't order it again.
