Top 10 tea list for maku tea

Disappointed- my 2nd visit I ordered exact same as last time 50% sweet half ice. When came home it's more like double sugar i can't drink it 7 $ drink go to waste. I have checked receipt it said 50% sugar. To be able to charge this price I expect the quality. We drove so far too to get the drink. Service was unfriendly as well on Thu pm 5/72026

This place is newish and took over the Tiger Boba location. It's open, roomy, and well lit with ample tables And chairs lining one side for your socializing needs. I've been two times (once months ago) and tried their tieguanyin oolong milk tea, sunshine li-li tea, and winter melon latte (for the kids). The tieguanyin was pretty good, but bordering on too sweet. A fairly solid choice for milk tea but it didn't quite hit the spot perfectly. The sunshine li-li tea is beautifully refreshing. I got it at 50 percent sugar and less ice. It's a passion fruit and orange based fruit tea and I thought the sugar was perfect because the tea cut through the sweetness. I also added agar boba for the fun texture without the calories and I would do it again. I'm not into fruit teas typically but I really enjoyed this one. The winter melon tea latte (basically, winter melon tea with milk) was ordered with less ice and light sweet. I managed to get a taste and it was still too sweet. If I get it again, I'd probably order it without added sugar. This was okay. One of my kids liked it but my toddler thought it was too sweet and rejected it. So this was.... Okay. We went in right after a large group came in and ordered at least 10 drinks. That means the wait for everyone else was much longer than usual. You get an order number but no order number was announced; it's perhaps because they were overwhelmed by the orders but they should get on that. Someone from the large group took one of our drinks and returned it a few minutes later because he didn't read the order number before taking it. We requested a new drink in its place which they acquiesced to. Overall, a good place to get drinks. The people there are nice and answers your questions happily. Fingers crossed you don't get there right after a large group.m and they should have someone announce orders once they're done, but no other complaints.

Macu Tea replaced the old Tiger Sugar (RIP) and is another boba chain from Taiwan that prides itself on providing high-quality brewed tea, serving fresh, organic ingredients, specializing in fruit teas, and avoiding an overly sweet taste. As expected, the interior was clean and minimal, and the shop was still packed despite it being the day after Thanksgiving. The service was friendly, although it was a bit slow. I ordered the Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea with 100% sugar and brown sugar boba. Overall, it was a decent drink, and it's clear that Macu Tea prioritizes the taste of the tea over loading it with sugar; even at 100%, I still felt like my order wasn't overly sweet. It was creamy as well, but I wouldn't necessarily say there was a wow factor; it was more so a safe drink. However, there are definitely other unique items on the menu that I'd want to try. Overall, I don't see myself frequenting Macu Tea (especially with the abysmal parking situation at Bellaire Food Street), but its extensive menu makes me look forward to returning!

Alrighty, just another boba shop but wait, what!? King of Mango Smoothie is delicious for my Asian taste-bud who likes semi-natural-sweet. Inside is spacious and I usually hate going into this plaza - usually just a bunch of trendy places that comes and goes. I wanted to try them when I saw they took over another place but then the parking situation in this plaza is just blah. Plus, Houston is literally the city of boba shops. No kidding. It's basically every other shop is a boba shops in all the Asian plazas like all these Asian owners got nothing better to do but to own as many boba shops in almost all the communities of Houston and Houston-metro. Enough of that. I was quite surprised with how much I enjoyed their mango smoothie that I kept coming back. I should stop being boring and order something else but I truly enjoy their King of Mango Smoothie. Just a nice, easy treat for after eating out at a restaurant in Chinatown Houston. I didn't have to adjust cause they don't add sugar to their mango smoothie (at least that's what I've been told).

My experience was solid at this location, from the good quality drinks to the service itself, it definitely exceeded my expectations. Walking in the staff was very welcoming and they answered all of my questions. Considering it was busy they were very patient. I decided to order 4 drinks, 3 for myself and 1 for my friend Tiffany J. I got the Peach black milk tea, orange & mango li-li tea, king of mango smoothie and my friend ordered the passion fruit li-li tea. * peach black milk tea- probably the strongest as far as tea flavor, the peach was subtle. Such a delicious drink. 4.5/5 * orange & mango li-li tea- orange is more predominant, tea flavor was pretty strong. The drink itself was refreshing. It just tastes like fresh blended OJ with mango bits. 4/5 * King of mango smoothie- it's supposedly their best seller. Definitely has a lot going on. I taste coconut, mango chunks, grapefruit and green tea jelly. I'm not a fan of grapefruit because it has a bitterness to it but it combined pretty well with the drink itself. 4/5 * passion fruit li-li tea- my friend said the drink was refreshing and good. Overall I was quite satisfied with everything. The decor is minimalist. The store is well put together and clean. Considering it was busy we received our drinks in a timely manner. Will I come back? I think this will be my go to spot to get boba tea from now on.

Another new boba shop in Bellaire, but I was quite impressed with this one! I ordered the tieguanyin oolong milk tea with 10% sugar and boba. The oolong tea was fragrant and tasted delicious. Even with 10% sugar, the drink was a bit sweet. I think it's due to the honey(?) in the boba itself so next time I would get 0% sugar and just a topping for sweetness! Service was quick and the space is large and clean.

Houston is a city so blessed by bubble tea options EVERYWHERE, and even in close proximity. The good thing about all this, is that each bubble tea shop usually has some strengths that determine where I choose to go at any given time. Macu Tea differentiates itself from the rest for its clear usage of fresh fruits. Seriously, I've been here now multiple times, and each time, there were some fruits close by the door and more in a refrigerated display. I have NEVER seen this elsewhere. So, first off, I was introduced to this spot by a Taiwanese friend of mine - and I trust her eye for Taiwanese taste, so this intrigued me. Of course, during my first visit here, I wasn't sure what to order, and what's cool about this place is they have a top 10 most popular orders on the wall to help you out, or the workers there are pretty friendly to ask for their suggestions. By a combination of the two, I ordered the Sunshine Li-Li Tea because it sounded tremendous, with a combination of passion fruit and orange juice to go with green tea. I paired that with coconut jellies, which I LOVE with fruit teas. Usually, it's lychee or coconut jellies for me. I was not disappointed. Tasted fresh and light. Vibrant. Refreshing. But before I do any review of a bubble tea spot, it feels only right to actually try something at least resembling milk tea with tapioca pearls. So the next time I visited, I had their Boba Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea. For some context, I'm usually a big fan of oolong milk teas, and this one sounded specialized a bit with the usage of the well-known Tieguanyin oolong tea. I appreciated the option for 10% sugar so that I could feel somewhat healthy as I downed this, and also the taste was, as seems to be the trend here, fresh and tasty. That said, considering all the fruits here and the options with fruit teas, I will say the fruit teas/smoothies seem to be the strength here. The oolong tea to me was a bit more ordinary when comparing to other shops. Interior decor is much like their drinks: bright and fresh. Very clean. Parking? It's in the Bellaire Food Street plaza that used to house Tiger Sugar. So for people in the know, parking usually feels like a struggle upon first blush, but do remember that there is a neighboring multiple-level parking complex that services this plaza, so just keep going if you don't see parking directly in front of the store in the initial lot. This is not an easy market to bring in a new bubble tea shop, especially with ChiCha SanChen, Feng Cha, and may others in neighboring plazas. That said, I'm intrigued enough with Macu to come back to try more fruit options. UPDATE: went back and tried the Ruby Grapefruit Li-Li Tea, and added green tea jelly to go with. THIS IS THE ORDER, Y'ALL. IT IS DELISH and one of the most delish drinks I've had. Lots of grapefruit pulp, and the combination of flavors is quite amazing coming together, especially with the freshness of the grapefruit. This is where the fruit freshness shines through! Upgrading my review from 4- to 5 stars based on this, yes I am. Of course, if you hate pulp, this is not for you. But if you are... YUM. And I had it with 10% sweetness and less ice and it was still YUM.

Avocado smoothie with strawberries and oolong milk tea

Macu Tea is a premium fresh fruit tea shop originating from Taiwan and is inside the Bellaire Food Street plaza. I have tried a few of their drinks, including the avocado with strawberry smoothie, King of Mango smoothie, Boba Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea. The avocado one is my favorite and has three layers: one layer of avocado smoothie, one layer of freshly cut strawberries, and crystal boba at the bottom. The drink is very creamy, not icy, and fresh, especially with the strawberries. The crystal boba pairs well with the creamy avocado. The King of Mango smoothie contains mango smoothies, fresh mangò chunks, grapefruit pieces, coconut milk, and green tea jelly. It is not as sweet and a bit on the more blander side compared to the avocado drink when I had it. Still refreshing but personally, I prefer the avocado drink more. The oolong milk tea is perfect--not too sweet but milky with a strong tea flavor, and the boba were bouncy. The interior is very minimal and bright. There is some seating and tables inside, but it can be a bit small if you have a large party. Staff is always super nice and ready to answer any questions we have. The highlight of their drinks are the fresh fruits and organic ingredients, making it on the higher-end, and therefore, it makes it more of a once-in-a-while treat, personally, especially with the parking, which is always a struggle in this plaza for any of the restaurants or spots. I do really enjoy both of their fruit and tea drinks and would come back after eating dinner within the same plaza.

Macu is a chain that originates from Taiwan (in the Kaohsiung region). I was so excited to try it when they announced that they were coming to Houston Chinatown, but unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown for me. The first time I went, I spent forever at the front trying to figure out what drink I wanted and eventually settled for a milk tea. I got the boba black tea latte (which is labeled as a favorite), and it was extremely dissapointing. The milk tea tasted like a powdered formula with artificial sweetener (like you know, the fake plasticy taste some milk teas have). I honestly took 2 sips of my drink and just gave the rest to my friend. I was told that Macu specializes more in their fruit teas, so I brushed off that experience and decided to come back on a subsequent visit to try a fruit focused drink. The next time I came, I got the king of mango smoothie, which was actually quite good. It featured a blend of mango, coconut, grapefruit, and other various jelly toppings. It was a very solid dessert drink, but if I'm being honest, it didn't necessarily stand out to me against Heytea's mango coconut/grapefruit boom or even Feng Cha's mango fantasy. In a landscape of competitive boba shops in Houston chinatown, I don't think I will be frequenting Macu Tea that much. I will say, the ambiance of the inside was very nice and clean with ample seating and nice lighting.

New establishment replaced previous boba tea shop. First impression, store front is super bright. It's great for studying group who wants to stay in to study with multiple seatings quite close to each other. Service is excellent but a bit slow given the time we went, there's not much customers. Drinks: we love their tea selections, strong tea aroma compared to other place. Mango fruity drink: we expected more from their known top mango drink so left a bit disappointed at the taste. I would hand down return for their tea but not so much for their fruity drinks.

Winter melon Tea - warning EXTREMELY sweet

Waittt, I'm actually sad that I didn't have a good experience here because it seems like everyone else did. I came here on a Sunday evening and was hoping to get one of their mango drinks... "we use fresh mangos and non of our mangos are ripe enough to use". Not the servers fault, in fact she was really nice but what a disappointment. There were what seemed like 20+ boxes of mangoes which were apparently all unripe. I ended up ordering the winter melon tea because I felt bad leaving empty handed... the sweetness level was fixed and boy oh boy. It tasted like I was drinking sugar water. When I tell you the drink was EXTREMEMLY sweet, I mean borderline unbearably sweet. Will I try again, probably not - I came in hoping the drinks would be cheaper than HeyTea and they would become my sub but they weren't, in fact drinks were more expensive and I didn't even leave satisfied.

I visited and absolutely loved my drinks! My favorite is the grape and cheese drink. Service is very kind and relatively quick. When I went, the lady in front of me was having a hard time understanding the drink options and edits, but I watched the person at the counter patiently explain and wait while the customer decided. For all the people that was there, my drink didn't take that long(10-15 mins). Interior decor was cute and comfortable without being stale or bland. Price is a bit high. It can average $8 per drink before tax or tip...... the pro is that they do seem to use real fruit(there's boxes of fresh fruit lying around). But I did want to give notice to ppl interested in visiting that amongst boba places, this isn't considered 'affordable'.

There's always a bit of confusion at front of the line which often causes a bit of a wait to order. I would chop the confusion up to two things: Macu being unfamiliar to most customers (since they are new and this is the first location in the Houston area) and there is no menu that is easily seen while in line. If the whole menu was displayed on one of the TV's, I suspect that the line may move a bit faster. During my multiple visits, I have found that the interior and tables have been consistently clean, something that is often a problem for very busy boba shops. Personally, this is not my favorite drink / boba shop simply because I tend to prefer tea forward drinks, while Macu focuses on their fruit drinks. My favorite drink from Macu is by far and away the King of Mango Smoothie. I find it to be the perfect blend of mango, coconut, grapefruit, and jelly. While not my first choice, Macu is still very solid and worth a shot if you have never been. I would stay a bit cautious of the tea drinks since I did not enjoy them, but you might!
