Love the food, nice cocktails and ambiance was really nice. Especially liked the Musician Bill Gearing (spelling?)

I'm writing this not to deter others from giving this restaurant a chance but in hopes of pointing out some failures that can easily be addressed. After a wonderful lunch experience some time ago, we returned for dinner service and were extremely disappointed. It's a great space run by a wonderful family but on this particular evening the service was absolutely horrific. After being seated we waited for what seemed like a lifetime before anyone came by the table to say hi before they quickly left. And we waited again for a ridiculously long time before someone returned to take a drink order and then again for another long wait for the drinks to arrive as we saw them sitting on the bar. By that time, we were ready to walk out but decided to stay given the good food reviews and the lunch we so fondly remembered. The problem was there were only 2 servers covering the entire inside and outside table. Therefore, the service was terrible which made for a very disappointing night out. It's all in the details and the difference between good and bad service has a great impact on any overall dining experience. Unfortunately, even the food lacked luster with a pasta seafood dish sloppily plated with overcooked pasta sticking together. Maybe it was just an off night... will give it another try and hopefully next time will be noticeably improved. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Great service, good food, awesome ambiance, and the live music was just fantastic! We went there for lunch yesterday and I ordered a custom wrap, which they were nice enough to make. However, I didn't end up liking it, so they let me order a different sandwich, which was delicious! Definitely got added to our list of favorite places to eat in ogunquit. read more

Establishment is in a great location and has a great Mediterranean feel. The server Cristian was awesome but under trained through no fault of his own. Not sure if there even was a manager on site, but if there was they didn't care what we had to say. We did try to tell them our criticisms. The starters were great. I had the octopus which was tender. A little to charred, but very tender. We also shared the traditional spreads and dips appetizer and it was nice and fresh. Just how you would expect dips with bread. For the main course I ordered the leg of lamb with roasted potatoes and mixed vegetable skewers. All had no seasoning whatsoever. The lamb was cooked well done and gray with no juice or flavor. The potatoes were so overcooked that they were dehydrated and again with no flavor. The tzatziki sauce was the best thing about the dish. My wife ordered the chicken thighs, and they managed to over cook them too. Overcooked and charred were the only flavors we could taste. No seasoning. Plain and dry. Not a good start to a vacation, and will not return but do hope they fix the issues. If they do, I would be more than willing to give it a chance. However, it seems that our feedback was not well received. They used the freshest of ingredients but unfortunately overcooked them all. For a meal for 3 it was close to $200 with tip. I sadly feel that we would of had a better meal at the local pizza shop. read more

We got takeout as the wait was a long one and ordered lamb and steak skewers. The beef was a bit tough and the rice was overcooked and there were only a few pieces of grilled vegetables. Baklava and donuts for dessert were very good. The hummus was the star of the dipping trio. read more

Our whole dining experience was amazing. The drinks were fabulous (I recommend the mediterranean mule with fig infused vodka!) Specials were substantial and flavorful. The staff was professional and helpful. I highly recommend. read more

The food was pretty good. The lobster pasta dish was good. The spanakopita was also good. The Greek salad was fresh. The very pleasant hostess found two seats at the bar to eat in this booked up restaurant. The male bartender was terrific, though the couple to our side laughed at how the female bartender completely ignored us and only paid attention to the alcohol drinkers (not professional, not nice). read more

Such a great place to dine, relax, great food, great menu... exactly what you want. The ambiance was perfect. Live music. Fun vibe. Sitting outside and you didn't feel packed in which you can feel at most Ogunquit restaurants. Drink selection was great. Can't comment on the wine list. I didn't see one but I was locked onto their signature cocktails. Lots of great seafood options. My wife and I had a hard time deciding on what to get so we did a bunch of appetizers. I need to go back bc there were things I didn't try that I really want to. Great place. Definitely recommend. read more

Doesn't look very large while driving by but we absolutely love their outdoor seating! Food was delicious and cocktails were on point! There is almost always a musician playing off in the corner and it just has a really fun vibe. read more

Our unexpected perfect evening. Upon a great recommendation of a local waiter, we happened upon a bar table with no wait. The wine recommendation was on point, the specials were outstanding and we savored every last moment with greek coffee and a unique, custom russian/italian coffee of my friend's choosing. The wait staff was amazingly patient given the late season rush and helped make this a perfect one stop shop for a perfect night in Ogunquit. Thank you! read more

From start to finish an amazing meal! We had the flaming cheese, the village salad, and the lemon chicken- all were flavorful and delicious. Service was so friendly and we were checked on many times to be sure everything was to our liking. We were able to sit outdoors comfortably with lots of heaters. Full disclosure: I did not eat here. That being said, all the food that went by us looked good. What I did do was pop in for a break from the sun and a need for a summer alcoholic beverage. The bartender Kev was awesome. He was very knowledgeable, had a great list of house cocktails, and was patient as I waffled about what to try first. I ended up getting 4 different drinks over e course of a couple hours, each one a delicious balance. This wasn't the typical sugary diabetic special, instead it was a real drink designed and made for a hot summer beach day. read more

Whatever you do, don't order the Saganaki, it was like soup which was weird because it's supposed to be FRIED cheese similar to a Mozzarella stick. When asked the lady had said it's a dip and I was kind of surprised given that there was nothing to dip in it. Absolutely amazing food and service! My husband and I made reservations here to take a break from the traditional costal Maine offerings and we were So happy we found this gem. The food was delicious and we kept sharing bites of each other's meal. We had the Lamb Meatballs, Lamb Souvlaki, and chicken souvlaki, followed by desert of a custard phyllo pastry I can not recall the name of, and the Greek donuts. Every dish was spectacular! A family meal at a restaurant is only as good as the least satisfied diner's experience. Nikanos started out promising and ended up disappointing. We were served good bread and olive oil. We had good spanakopita and a good Greek salad made with pickled onions. My entree was the best- the charred leg of lamb with feta mashed potatoes. It was really good. One of my kids had the salmon, which was good and was cooked to order The other one had steak tip souvlaki. She requested medium and the steak was well done. My wife ordered the pasta special with shrimp, lobster, artichokes and cherry tomatoes. The waitress served her pasta with scallops, which my wife doesn't eat. We pointed this out to our waitress. She apologized and took the dish away. One of the hosts stopped by and asked how we were doing. We politely explained the problem. He brought back the dish. My wife cut into a shrimp and it wasn't cooked through. After a few minutes, we were able to flag down a bus boy, who brought the dish back again. By the time it re-emerged, we were all done with our entrees. The shrimp was still a bit al dente. At this point, the pasta was overcooked and the vegetables were cold. My wife picked at the shrimp and gave up. This was strike three. We were charged full price for this entree, which was $38. We didn't want to make a scene. I paid the bill, left a tip and left a note explaining our disappointment. Hopefully the waitress showed it to managment. Our night out was ruined and the restaurant staff didn't make an effort to make sure that our problem was made right. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by how it handles a problem. Had a wonderful dinner Saturday night with friends. The service was perfect, the meals all tasty and all in all it was a great experience.

Service started out ok, but dwindled once the main course was delivered. We had an array of appetizers that were all excellent. I ordered the lamb off the bone and another person ordered the lamb shank. Both were supposed to be rare, they both came out medium to well done. When we brought it to our server's attention, she took our plates and disappeared for 15 minutes. Eventually the owner came out and said it's very hard to get 'rare' lamb. about 10 minutes later he delivered two plates of rare lamb that were delicious. There was no offer of a free cocktail or dessert. I felt he could have handled it better. Very underwhelmed by his attitude and will not go back. read more

We took food out from Nikanos the other day and we're disappointed. The soup container didn't make it back to our hotel, since soup spilled all over the bag. My Greek salad with chicken was sodden despite asking for the dressing on the side. My husband's gyro was decent, but had relatively little lamb in it. read more

So very disappointing, especially after reading so many positive reviews. The Greek salad, small, was four wedges of tomato three slices of half a cucumber with 4 half slices of Kalamata olives, It did have a nice piece of feta cheese, and decent dressing. My wife had the lamb skewers, which were chewy and tough, inedible, my moussaka had no resemblance to the dish. Watery beef, a few pieces of eggplant and a thin bechamel sauce, about a quarter cup on the individual portion received. Simple cocktails (vodka soda) were 12 dollars and weak. We were told that this table has another reservation and we need to order now. Nice atmosphere great location, poor service and awful food. We have eaten at many very good Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs Florida, which has a large Greek population. Maybe I was expecting too much in Maine. Oh and I almost forgot, The Moussaka is tagged GF (Gluten Free) on the menu and it is not! We had the server ask the cook how he thickens the bechamel sauce and said with flour. read more
