a joke paying $7.95 for a measly portion of hummus.
    Marc L.

The chicken pita is a very good sandwich very messy but in a good way. However todays sandwich had old brown lettuce mixed in.-not cool I had to pick out the brown lettuce. Also not cool was a $15.00 greek salad that had tasteless tomatoes, very little lettuce, an excessive amount of cucumber, a good amount of feta & kalamata olives. In addition charging .35 for dressing on the side is a joke- get real be professional Finally charging $7.95 for a very small serving of hummus is another joke. Too many " jokes " for today. Owner of Papous fix your mistakes. My only future purchase will now only be the chicken Pita until I find a better greek restaurant. I'm now on the lookout for something better,

We made a stop for a late lunch at Papous Pita after walking past it a number of times. The food we got, including a couple Gyro and a Mediterranean bowl and the special fries were really tasty. Compares favorably with similar dishes I've had overseas. The staff was working hard in the back, but got the food out to us pretty quickly. The space is fairly small but clean and has some neat decor to make sure you know you're in a Greek restaurant! A couple small complaints - our lunch, while not extravagant, was really pricey. Also, the ordering kiosk asked if we wanted to check out after adding every item to our order. The food tasted really great, which helped balance things out.

This place might have the best pita sandwiches for miles around. The bread is outstanding and is the key to the sandwiches deliciousness. I ordered beef and lamb - the meat was juicy and tender and tasty. The chicken was also flavorful and juicy. My husband and I love going to the Greek festivals for the food but Papous is hands down the winner! Great fast service. Simple cute space with Greek background music.

My husband and I have been here twice before and we love it! The food has incredible flavor and is cooked perfectly. There wasn't a bad thing that we have had from here. Inside the restaurant is clean and well lit with nice decorations. The man who prepared our food both times was super kind and generous too! He's got great customer service. We will most definitely be back because this is the best Greek food in Maine.

So happy to have found this place. The hummus was so creamy and delicious and loved the toasted warm pita that came with it . The owner was very nice and friendly I got the Greek salad pita $ 8.99 . The pita was overflowing with a fresh excellent Greek salad. The feta was some of the best I have had in a long time. The place was clean and we were able to sit inside and eat. We will definitely go back and try something new.

We ordered a mezze platter with tzatziki, skordalia and a cuke and tomato salad, served with pita that tasted like it was made in house. My husband enjoyed the lamb and pork ragu served over polenta and shared my entree, the evening's special - a stuffed eggplant that was the best preparation of thIs humble vegetable I can remember. Stuffed with red lentils and crispy mushrooms, it was outstanding, especially with the addition of the tzatziki. Didn't reallt have room for dessert, but we were on a roll The baklava was delicious - loaded with nuts, of course, but not dripping syrup, which meant that the filo pastry was crisp. A thoroughly wonderful meal, with friendly service in a beautiful room. We live in CT, which has a dearth of Greek restaurants. Easy free on street parking located near many breweries on nearby Fox street. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive . Not a lot of beers available, but both local for on tap. Had delicious IPA from Goodfire and tried the imported bottle Greek beer which was awesome and refreshening. My wife had a glass of wine which she really liked and the waiter was helpful in helping her decide based on her wine preferences. For food we ordered hash browns which were good flavor and two Gyros- tofu variety for my vegetarian wife and I had the chicken. The pita and tzatziki and all ingredients in the Gyros tasted super fresh and both tofu and chicken were well cooked. It was so good I almost ordered a second one! Will definitely be back for their daily happy hour and to try out more of what they offer. Downside is cost-is a bit more expensive at 70+ dolllars for 1 wine, 2 beers and the food above, but it was very good!

Made with ground meat, tomatoes and onions, and baked in phyllo sheets. So delicious! The flaky phyllo absorbs the delicious juices. Forget about utensils. This one is surely best eaten with clean hands! I wish I bought two! Next time, I will! And I shall inhale them just as I did today. The Mount Olympus Souvlaki is fit for a HUGE appetite! I don't think Konishki could finish this in one sitting. It's huge! It's like a gigantic pita burger with your choice of pork, chicken or lamb. Loaded with round white and red onions, which is lovely with the meat. They ran out of lamb so we tried it with pork. Delicious! Order extra yogurt sauce with this because you will need it! The Spanakopita was not so good. I prefer mine using phyllo sheets, but this was made using flour, I think. It's a far cry from the traditional ones with phyllo sheets. Texture was way too hard and the filling was not so tasty. I'll skip this the next time I go there. Order door is from the parking lot side (not on Vineyard). Take out only. Many pre-ordered so that's what I'll do next time, but it wasn't a long wait either. Kitchen area looked clean. You can scan the QR code at the door or they have a menu with photos inside the shop. Overall, great experience. The food is reasonably priced given today's inflation. Supporting small local businesses is a must! Eating real food vs fast food is better for good health. I am sure to update this after trying more menu options, especially the lamb. Update: The bougatsa remains my favorite! I love the beef, but it's still a bit too greasy for me. I will air fry it today hoping the phyllo that sopped up all the grease will turn out crispy. The dessert bougatsa is very delicious. The custard is not too sweet and I love the flaky phyllo. Highly recommend. I would order a pan of this! I would bring this to a potluck party. I could eat this daily. Yes, it's that good! The dolmates are GIGANTIC! Almost the size of lumpia!!! 4 dolmas per serving. It was delicious but didn't have the pine nuts that I am accustomed to. The feta sauce complimented the dolma filling. The gel galaktobuprek (spelling) was way too sweet and thick for me. Reminds me of a thick coconut pie. Perhaps it would be ok as a 1/2 tsp serving size. If you crave for sweets, then this is the dessert for you. Suggest you place an order EARLY on Friday because they do run out.

Then we shared Keftedes which was nice - half vegetarian for me and half lamb/beef. They were good but we couldn't stop thinking about the shrimp sauce. I had some Greek red wine which was fabulous!! The menu is pretty small and the dishes are not fancy, but this is more than made up for by the bold, fresh flavors, less-common ingredients, artful presentation, and generous portions. And equally importantly, creativity. Take the parmigiana, for example. Rather than boring, dry chicken breast theirs are made with boneless thighs, a much more interesting choice. In the carbonara, where you might expect bacon, something better: guanciale. Decorative herbs? Not the common parsley sprigs, instead beautiful purple micro-basil. The pastas: every one is made fresh in house, not dried. Excellent service as well. My waiter, Lucas, could not have been better, in every way. As for the bartender, Russell, the specialty cocktails are his own creations, with whimsical names, ingredients many of which I've never heard of, and the two I tried were fantastic. And he seemed genuinely pleased when I complimented him on this as I was leaving. The only service flaw - minor - was a delay in getting my first drink, which arrived after my appetizer. Appetizer was Arancini. Crunchy coating, and inside a risotto-style rice, al dente, along with asparagus, guanciale, and two cheeses for added interest. A beautiful presentation, artfully drizzled with lemon aioli (the lemon too subtle) and purple micro-basil. Two large pieces, and because I was dining solo I took one home for breakfast - along with half the generously-sized dessert cake. My cocktails: Eve's Temptation: Caraway-thyme infused vodka, Oloroso sherry, Dolin dry vermouth, apple, lemon. Hattan Bow Tie: Basil Hayden bourbon, Cocchi Barolo Chinato, Pernod Absinthe Superiore, flamed orange. Wish I could have tried every one! There's also a very interesting-sounding wine list including a red sparking Lambrusco dessert wine, served chilled, that I wanted to try but didn't. Lucas recommended the special pasta of the day, a simple dish of house-made spaghetti, romano, Calabrian chilis, garlic (lots and lots of it!), parsley, and bread crumbs. I don't normally go for pasta entrees, especially simple ones like this, but in this case it sounded interesting and I trusted his recommendation - after adding the optional grilled shrimp and guanciale. These additions raised the price considerably, but it was so worth it. The fresh pasta was perfectly cooked and the cheeses and bread crumbs added body without making it too heavy. The shrimps were very large, not overcooked, fresh, and loaded with more garlic flavor. The tails were not removed, which always slightly annoys me. The guanciale added smokiness and textural interest. More purple micro-basil for garnish. Pretty to be sure but disappointing to see it again; they used that on the arancini. As for the heat: it was more than mild from the chilis but by no means hot. The most assertive flavor was the garlic, much of it raw. Maybe a bit excessive but I'd rather have too much than too little. A good-sized portion but not huge, just the right amount to feel satisfied but not stuffed. And I left room for dessert! Dessert options were limited, even more so than the entrees. I decided on the pistachio olive oil cake. My take is it's like a pound cake but made with olive oil instead of butter. Olive oil was also drizzled on the plate and over the whipped cream; interesting. Lots of pistachio flavor, in the cake itself and also in the candied pistachios mixed in and sprinkled over the whipped cream which was flavored and firm. I ate one of the two slices and that was enough, taking the rest home. When I opened the box the next day I saw that they had even packed the leftover whipped cream in a small container, and it was still firm, not runny. Impressive. Disappointingly, there are no ice cream or gelato offerings for dessert. Lucas agreed with me that it seems a strange omission for an Italian restaurant. The room is comfortable and attractive, natural wood, old-fashioned cabinets, cork and burlap dominant in the decor. Plant prints, mosaics made from wine corks, an antique dresser in the men's room. The bar, dominant in the room (no TVs - yeah!), is apparently the place to meet and greet in Brunswick. I lost count of the number of hugs exchanged between the many people coming and going over the 90 minutes I was there. No hugs for me but I enjoyed watching the activity.
