Tzatziki, Hummus, Tiggie's Red Bean with grilled pita 5/5 Solid hummus with an above average Tzatziki. Red bean dip was a new one for our group, I wonder if it would do better with the beans smashed or mashed. Calamari 4/5 Saganaki 6/5 The flaming cheese was the photo worthy experience while the flavors with roasted fennel and grapes on top complemented the beautifully charred cheese. Service is fantastic with everyone knowing the menu and their craft. The covered patio with ceiling fans is wonderful for a nice summer day when you dont want to be out in the sun but dont want air conditioning either. read more

Nikanos - Flaming saganaki cheese with fennel and grapes - Greek Near Me - Ogunquit, Maine

3.5 stars. We had dinner with friends at Nikanos on a recent weeknight. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a good time. VIBE: We were seated in a covered open-air patio that had a Greek market feel. Very pleasant, though noise from an adjacent table was a bit much. SERVICE: staff were congenial and attentive. Food was delivered at a comfortable pace. FOOD: A special salad of arugula and burrata was OK. My Psari Plaki was flavorful, featuring baked swordfish and potoes in a rich tomato sauce. Lamb Souvlaki was flavorful, though rather chewy. There were a few Greek wines by the glass; the two reds that I tried were delicious and food-friendly. We were just visiting Maine, but would certainly stop in again if we're in the area.p read more

Nikanos has a beautiful indoor and outdoor atmosphere with string lights and fire pits and they provide guests with heaters and blankets at outdoor tables at nighttime. We were able to get a table without a reservation on a Saturday night and enjoyed sitting at our outdoor table and chatting, but were unimpressed with the service and value of food and drinks. I was with three friends and we were not overly hungry so we decided to order one order of chicken souvlaki (skewers) and one order of steak skewers ($28 and $29). We were shocked when the order came out and each order came with one single skewer with three pieces of meat (three steak tips, three pieces of chicken) and one skewer with 6 vegetable pieces around an inch in size. Very surprised with the amount of food for the price and we were not incredibly impressed with the taste of the food either. It seemed that those around us were ordering pasta dishes and fish dishes, and maybe those are better options to try, but we expected a skewer plate with rice to be a classic and safe bet. read more

The hubby and I stopped here for dinner. The prices were average. The place had a unique layout. It was loud but it also had live entertainment. They did offer outdoor seating. The service was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious. This Greek restaurant is truly authentic. We will definitely be coming back. read more

Came here on a Thursday night and was able to snag a seat at the bar around 8 ish. It was a little bit of an open kitchen concept as there was a large window into the kitchen big enough for me to give a double thumbs up to the line cooks after tasting my food to which they all cheered, it was, adorable. Anyways, I got the Octopus appetizer and my oh my was it delightful and so full of flavor and deliciousness. If a restaurant has octopus, chances are, I'm ordering it, no matter what. No two restaurants ever have the same octopus. It came with fava beans and potatoes, green beans and olives. Now olives I hate but it was easy to separate them. The dish was hearty, which explained the price.........I think it was worth it though, nice atmosphere, cool bar, nice outdoor fire pit. I would come back here for sure. Bartender was super nice, told him I was visiting solo and he gave me recommendations for more bars and restaurants to check out while I was there. Great service all around. read more

This place immediately caught our eye on our way to our vacation spot in Wells, Maine. We immediately decided we would try this restaurant because we enjoy Mediterranean/Greek food. It also had a very appealing appearance with its covered open air and outdoor seating. We did not have reservations on a Friday night but they found a way to accommodate us. First they serve you a basket of warm bread with oil and they recommended you try the olives with it. My husband was the only one who likes olives and he ate them all! I had the special of the day which was a black bass with a mango salsa served atop a cheesy polenta and asparagus. This meal is defintely on my top meals of all time. Everything was cooked to perfection and was bursting with flavor and richness. My husband ordered the Pasta Nikanos. It was loaded with a variety of seafood such as salmon, shrimp, and mussels in a red sauce served over farfalle pasta. He devoured it and was more than satisfied with the flavors and portion size. My daughter ordered the Valerie shrimp which was large shrimp in a red sauce with melted muenster cheese served atop a bed of Greek seasoned rice. She enjoyed it very much. We also had cocktails and they did not disappoint. I had a Mule that had black fig and my husband had the Aphrodite that had various flavors that was semi-sweet but good. We will definitely return to try some of their other offerings. We missed out on their dessert of the day which was a bread pudding because we were so full. read more

Nikanos - Warm bread with oil and olives. We forgot to take pictures of our meals. - Greek Near Me - Ogunquit, Maine

Absolutely amazing Greek food in the heart of Ogunquit - an unexpected and very welcoming find. Patio seating (next to a fire pit), quiet and intimate atmosphere. Started with bread and olive oil and ordered the lamb shank and psari plaki. Amazing food - well done and delicious. Psari Plaki is a local cod with gigantes beans and olives in a yummy tomato sauce, baked in the oven. And the lamb shank was well done juicy lamb accompanied by feta cheese mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Large and filling portions, excellent presentation and all the flavors! I accompanied my meal with a glass of Greek Chardonnay. We didn't have space for dessert, BUT took a piece of galactoboureko to go. Ogunquit is not a place I expected to find quality Greek food, and I am glad I was proven wrong. Highly recommending Nicanos! As the server about the origin of the name read more

We were really disappointed with our experience here. The food itself was pretty good, so that wasn't the issue. We sat for a good 2 hours before we got any food. We had to wait 45 minutes for our drinks. I understand if a backed up kitchen is causing the problems, but there wasn't a ton of effort to right the wrong. We liked the live music. read more

Great indoor, outdoor restaurant with a genuine Mediterranean vibe. Friendly service with fresh tasty dishes.

The atmosphere is lovely and the service was excellent. However, the food we had was mediocre at best. The saganaki was not like any we've ever had - not great and very salty. The agovlemono soup was terrible. Bland and salty. My mussels did not taste fresh and the broth was again, bland and salty. I couldn't finish them. What's with all the salt?! Lastly, my husband's glass of wine was stingy. read more

Recently had brunch at Nikanos in Ogunquit & was thoroughly impressed, so I had to come back for dinner ASAP. I'm obsessed with Greek cuisine. The cocktails were stunning & delicious. We were served soft bread, & we also ordered calamari, flaming saganaki, & the trio of dips. Everyone raved about their entrees; I personally loved the lamb shank with feta mashed potatoes, pasta, & flatbread. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Can't wait to come back to try something new. read more

Someone needs to tell these people when you serve a mimosa you don't serve it in an all purpose glass filled with ice. You serve it in a champagne glass with no ice. Ordered a mimosa last Sunday and watched the bartender fill an all purpose glass with ice, then poured orange juice three quarters full followed by champagne from above while champagne poured all over the outside of the glass. Bartender doesn't have a clue. What was brought to me was a glass sopped and sticky on the outside and tasted like a glass of plain orange juice. Shame on them. read more

We discovered Nikanos this summer, and we've already been back three times! It's the perfect spot for dinner before catching a show at the Ogunquit Playhouse. I'm usually all about trying new restaurants, but in a town filled with tourist traps, it's tough to find a locally owned place that serves quality food at fair prices. Nikanos doesn't disappoint! From the spanakopita and lamb meatballs to their famous pastitsio (think Greek lasagna) and moussaka, everything has been delicious. The drinks are a bit of a hit or miss -- sometimes inconsistent -- but I do love the fact that their cocktail menu is quite extensive. The service is fantastic, even when they're packed. We like to give ourselves about 1.5 to 2 hours before a show to relax and enjoy our meal, and that's always worked well. The servers are incredibly attentive. The vibe is totally Ogunquit! The outdoor seating is awesome during the summer and fall (they have heaters for cooler nights), and they often have a live band. It's the perfect background music because you can still hear each other talk. I love sitting outside, soaking in the energy of the city. Pro tip: definitely call ahead for reservations since they get busy! read more

Very disappointing and unprofessional experience at Nikanos Mediterranean Bar & Grille. My boyfriend and I walked in and were greeted by the owner, who asked how many people. I replied two, and we stood waiting as expected. Within about 20 seconds, another couple walked in behind us. The owner immediately walked past us, greeted them enthusiastically, and seated them right away while completely ignoring us--even though we had arrived first. When she finally returned to us, I expressed that I was uncomfortable staying after being treated so rudely. Instead of offering a sincere apology, she justified her behavior by saying the other couple were regulars of eight years and suggested we should not mind waiting a couple of minutes. That response made the situation worse. As new customers, we should have been treated with the same courtesy and respect, not made to feel like we were less important. What stood out most was the lack of professionalism and concern for making a good impression on new customers. Rather than trying to fix the situation, she continued to defend her decision. We ultimately chose to leave, and it was clear she did not care whether we stayed or not., Just simply a very rude unprofessional owner! First impressions matter, and unfortunately this was a very poor one. Based on this experience alone, we will not be returning. read more

What a great find in Ogunquit, Maine. We came upon it because it was the first parking space on the dinner hour on July 4 we could find. They literally squeezed us in and glad they did! I never had Nouveau Mediterranean before! We started with the spicy calamari. Perfectly battered, fried and served with roasted onion and hot peppers and some garbanzos sprinkled with a wonderful mild feta to cool the heat a bit. It just got better from there. My date had beef souvlaki that was cooked exquisitely to medium rare as ordered with a lovely medley of cooked veggies! I had Yia Yia's roasted chicken! Fantastic!! We both loved each other's dinners! We also both had the lemon roasted potatoes that were superb! Two waiters served us with efficiency and finesse. One waiter was Nick and he was amazing. We never caught his parter's name. The restaurant was mostly open and comfortable on what had been a hot day. The place was packed and the live musicians playing and singing hits of the 60's and 70's topped the wonderful atmosphere!! Nikanos will definitely see me again!! Yasou! read more

Nikanos Mediterranean Bar and Grille, located on Main Street in Ogunquit, ME, offers a satisfying dining experience that showcases its unique approach to Greek Mediterranean cuisine. The menu features dishes rooted in family recipes, providing a distinctive culinary experience. The ambiance is well-suited for social gatherings, often accompanied by entertainment. The expertly crafted cocktails and attentive service further enhance the dining experience. Our meals were exceptional, with my pork chop special being a highlight. Prices are comparable to other local establishments, and vegetarian options are available. As a popular spot among tourists and locals, Nikanos can be bustling, but its distinctive dining areas, including open-air concepts, help to mitigate the crowds. The owner's personal attention to detail is evident in their commitment to ensuring a pleasant dining experience for all guests. I highly recommend Nikanos for a memorable dining experience in Ogunquit. read more

Had dinner there on Friday 8/29/25 on the first night of our weekend vacation to celebrate my gf's birthday & Labor day. We had made 6:30 pm reservations in advance but unfortunately it was raining when we headed there from our hotel and their parking lot was full so we were forced to circle around a few times and finally had to pay $20 to park in a lot across the street which put a slight damper on things... Once inside the restaurant we were seated within 10 mins and greeted by our lovely server Marilyn who was the sweetest girl, she was very attentive and gave us time to look over the menu, told us about the specials & cheerfully answered all of our drink & food menu questions which helped us make great choices for our drinks, appetizers & entrees! We both loved the oysters we selected and the lemon soup very much, the standout though was one of the night's specials which was baked haddock & lobster over potato au gratin which we both chose and both thought was amazing!! We had a nice leisurely dinner, received a nice dessert in honor of my gf's birthday and thought Marilyn was the best server we had met since our arrival in Maine! We will definitely return to Nikanos, but hopefully during our next visit , parking won't be such an issue. read more

Three of us went for Sunday brunch we all LOVED it! More food in the sampler than I needed but it was terrific! Hummus, red bean dip and tzatziki with a grilled pita, 2 dolmades, a piece of spanakopita and who knew that ordinary fried zucchini could be SO incredibly good? My friends loved the fish tacos made with cod and tzatziki and the eggs with housemade hollandaise with a bit of za'atar were very well-received. And a shout out to Sarra E--she was really knowledgeable about the menu and had a warm and easy manner. The whole thing was just a great experience and we're looking forward to a return trip to try out the dinner menu! read more

I wouldn't waste your money here. I was excited for Greek food for dinner but this place is extremely underwhelming. Got the trio dip for an app and chicken skewers and the lamb pizza for dinner. We were greeted by a smiling hostess and had the Sunday night specials which had a salad, entree and dessert. The salad, while simple, had a great lemon vinaigrette for dressing and was delicious. The entree I had was ground lamb with red sauce and pasta covered with a bechamel sauce and baked. It was very good. Dessert was a blueberry cake with ice cream. Absolutely delicious meal with nice wine and an attentive, friendly waitress. We'll be back if we can find a parking place. It's a small lot. read more

We had a reservation I made 6 weeks prior by phone, however when we arrived they didn't have it. Fortunately we did not have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table outside. We started with the traditional dips and the baked oysters Onassis, both delicious. We also had the grilled octopus, it was very good, however the portion was minuscule. Valerie's shrimp was very tasty as the Pastitsio. Ended with a complimentary dessert. We would definitely come back. read more

A not-bad Greek restaurant in Ogunquit and a welcome addition to the other fine dining places in town with some hits and some misses, so it certainly depends on what dishes you have. It was certainly hopping on the night we visited, so we were glad we made reservations, but even so, we had to wait 15 minutes before our table opened up (reminded me of the Seinfeld rental car scene "You know how to TAKE a reservation but you don't know how to HOLD a reservation"). At any rate, once we were seated, it was still a little bit tough to relax fully with the loud music blaring and difficulty hearing each other. We shared appetizers of: Oysters Onassis (excellent, will double up on these next time), saganaki (also good, with a nice crusty and savory bottom), crispy Ikari fried zucchini wheels (rather limp and disappointing), and warm mixed olives (very good and flavorful). I had their lamb souvlaki and found it to be a bit tough and bland - the accompanying sauces (tzatziki and tahini) didn't improve it. One of my daughters had the moussaka (also surprisingly bland); another daughter had the lamb shank (meaty but under-seasoned); my oldest daughter had the best entree, the lemon roasted chicken, which was flavorful and nicely crisped skin; and my wife had their Greek Village salad which she said was very fresh and tasty. We shared desserts of the galaktoboureko, Nikanos-style Greek donuts, and the seasonal fruit crisp - all of these were quite good, especially the donuts. I just wish their coffee stood up to their fine desserts ... read more

I enjoyed the ambiance here a lot, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing where this is a mostly outdoors restaurant. Excellent food options on their menu and the specials were unique. We had Corn chowder and Greek salad to start. The chowder with lobster was a home run - lots of lobster. Greek salad was perfectly seasoned with the right an amount of feta. I had the Bass for an entree it was so delicious but the bones were annoying (common problem with this dish).
