The food: I dislike rice, or thought I did- their rice is sublime. What do they add to it? The baba ghanoush is the best I've tasted. My friend got chicken kabob and raved about it. My curried chicken was equally good. You won't have room for the baklava but take some home (and hide it from the family or it will disappear.) I'll be back. More of that rice for one thing.

A True Gem for Middle Eastern Groceries!…read more We recently moved to the area, and I stumbled upon this amazing store on Google--and I'm so glad I did! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by their incredibly friendly and helpful staff (I can speak only English). On my first visit, I hadn't noticed the freshly baked bread until after I had paid for my items. When I returned to buy the bread, they kindly offered it to me for free as a warm welcome to a new customer. That thoughtful gesture truly reflected their customer-oriented approach and made me feel right at home. The store has a great variety of spices and specialty items that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Their prices are also very fair. They also offer warm fresh Middle Eastern takeout dishes and carry fresh Halal meat, including lamb, which is a huge plus. This place is truly a hidden gem, and I'm so happy to have found it!

The two errors are what brought the stars down from a five: the baklava was overbaked. Almost burnt. For a pan Mediterranean restaurant to ruin this regionally ubiquitous treat was a stumble. Then, the person getting sorbet got a different flavor than promised (one of her three) and hated it. Luckily, a gelato eater liked it and was willing to make a scoop for scoop trade. Service was delightful and attentive. Prices do reflect what's happening with inflation, and "small plates" means you pay for each item, sans any included sides. So come prepared, if you can, to share, savor, and relax about the prices.

This was cool. I first saw this Halal grocery store when I was at the large but unexceptional…read morehardware store across the street. I wanted to drop in because the sign said that they had goat & camel meat, but it was the middle of Ramadan and assuming they were open, the last thing they need in the middle of a fast is me blundering in there looking for something to eat. Anyway, Ramadan's gone and I was in the neighborhood so I went in. The guy who worked there was really friendly and helpful but we had a hard time understanding each other. Ultimately I left with a bunch of cut up goat ribs that were supposed to be "really good for soup". This typically means that they're a tough cut of meat, but I'll braise them and let the crock pot do the rest. I also picked up the kind of dates that they just don't have in Hannaford's, but they're everywhere in most Halal markets. There's also a room in the back which seems to be some kind of restaurant or maybe just a hangout. There were a ton of male voices back there and they had that sound of people discussing current events and passing the time. I don't know if the store closes at prayer time or not. Most of the customers were women wearing very colorful clothing who talked among themselves and seemed to know exactly what they wanted to buy. As for me, I was a fish out of water but I was having a good time and wasn't made to feel out of place. I look forward to going back and trying something else soon, but right now I'm going to start working on tomorrow night's goat stew. If you can't find something that suits your taste, that's a tough one.
