Good drinks, great octopus appetizer, and delicious retsina wine. Staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

So very disappointing, especially after reading so many positive reviews. The Greek salad, small, was four wedges of tomato three slices of half a cucumber with 4 half slices of Kalamata olives, It did have a nice piece of feta cheese, and decent dressing. My wife had the lamb skewers, which were chewy and tough, inedible, my moussaka had no resemblance to the dish. Watery beef, a few pieces of eggplant and a thin bechamel sauce, about a quarter cup on the individual portion received. Simple cocktails (vodka soda) were 12 dollars and weak. We were told that this table has another reservation and we need to order now. Nice atmosphere great location, poor service and awful food. We have eaten at many very good Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs Florida, which has a large Greek population. Maybe I was expecting too much in Maine. Oh and I almost forgot, The Moussaka is tagged GF (Gluten Free) on the menu and it is not! We had the server ask the cook how he thickens the bechamel sauce and said with flour. read more

A perineal favorite of ours when we visit Ogunquit. Authentic Greek food, excellent service.

Absolutely wonderful service and the food is sensational. We've had the shrimp, grilled chicken, and lobster pasta- all flavorful and delicious. You won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing food & well kept even during Convid 19 times!!!!! Greek Food was very much needed!

Great Greek food! Definitely worth a stop to dine outdoors. Highly recommend the Greek salad and grape leaves. The lamb flatbread was also good and my parents love the eggplant bruschetta. read more

Tried Nikanos for the first time yesterday and it was DELICIOUS!! I got the dips (hummus, tzatziki, red bean) and also the avocado feta quinoa bowl with hummus. Everything was so fresh and amazing. You could tell everything was homemade... the hummus was my favorite read more

Our favorite stop for fresh Greek food in Ogunquit. Highly recommend. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!

Alan and I passed Nikanos yesterday when we were out wandering and decided to come here for dinner tonight because we love Greek food and were in the mood for lamb once we saw it. It looks as if it might have started life as a gas station or a garage, much as many restaurants on San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley have done. It's a repurposing I love. We were greeted, seated near the bar (our preference because the chairs were a bit higher and looked more comfortable than the ones on the enclosed patio) and given menus. Our drink orders were taken, a glass of a Rhone blend for me, water for Alan. We were brought a basket containing a couple of thick slices of bread and a bunch of crispy, long, seasoned crackers and a small bowl of olive oil. We looked at the menu and decided on the calamari once we determined that tentacles were included. I had been hoping for skordalia, my favorite of the Greek dips. Alan saw it on the menu as part of an appetizer, but when I asked if we could have it as a dip our server said someone else had already requested that earlier and been refused by the chef. Not a good start. The calamari was combined w/ fried chick peas, chopped tomatoes, feta and slices of a couple of different types of peppers, sliced, one piquant, the other a little hotter. The calamari itself was mixed, some cooked too much, some just right. The dish as a whole was a tasty and interesting combination. For our mains I ordered leg of lamb, which came w/ green beans and mashed potatoes and Alan ordered lamb souvlaki, which came w/ rice. There were two nice skewers of lamb and vegetables. Both dishes came w/ a ramekin of tzadziki. My lamb was sliced and cooked to well done, not a bit of pink. Though I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, I was surprised that it was so overcooked by my standards. Dipped in the tzadziki, it was tasty and it wasn't dry, thankfully. The mashed potatoes were very good and the green beans were wonderful, maybe my favorite part. Nikanos is clearly popular, as several people were sitting at the bar, the patio was quite crowded and there was another party seated near us. We were prepared to like it more than we did and left disappointed. read more

Fresh and delicious Greek food! Fun place to have a cocktail or sit down for a great meal. Had the calamari, fish stew, lamb kebobs, and it was all wonderful! The lamb was the best I have ever tasted! ( sorry to my Greek friends!) Great family run place with good feels all around! read more

The food is average, def could be better. But the service and atmosphere is great. The staff here are all fantastic.

This was a disappointing experience. The food was average, the best item was the falafel gyro . my lobster roll was tasty but small, especially considering the price. The server was pleasant but overall service was slow. At one point , while we were waiting for our food another waitress came over and offered us menus. read more

Great menu! It's now possible to have a tasty and healthy meal in Ogonquit! Attention to quality, freshness, detail and service was clear. The space is inviting and fun! Perfection down to the bread and olive oil. Don't miss the spreads, salads and whole fish! Hmmmmm! read more

What a fantastic late night dinner we had last night! We started with margaritas that were perfect. Ordered spanakopita that was so light and delicious along with a chicken gyros loaded with the perfect amount of spice, veggies and sauce. Topped it all off with baklava...so yummy!! Had great conversation with the owner Marc as we sat at the bar. We will be back for sure! read more

Tucked away in a nest of pine trees (though Cyprus trees would be more fitting), what you'd expect from Nikanos is for it to be a cold locale, with transparent plastic walls draped down over a small patio, you'd assume your gyro would shrink in size by the time the appetizers roll around. What we got instead was an ethereal dining experience which the Gods of Olympus would be envious of. Though the dining area may seem cold, a space heater as warm as Hephaestus' own forge quickly cheered our spirits up on a cold day. Dining service was fast, though that could be attributed to us being the only diners in the restaurant at 4:50. Food was spectacular, and I can't wait to find myself back here again. All the while, traditional and modern Greek music plays in the background. Highly recommend the Baklava of course. Prices were a little steep for my usual consumption of local cheap diners and dives, but made for an extravagant date night. Staff was wonderful and as friendly as you could believe. Will definitely be attempting to come here again before the seasons turn over. read more

See all

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is hit or miss depending on what you get. My son did not like the flatbread at all. However, I liked the chicken and my wife liked the lamb. Their apps were really good with generous portions. read more

I root for family businesses up until it's obvious that they are more interested in protecting each other's feelings than they are running a customer-focused business. Never got to my meal or drinks, as the family bartender ignored me for 15 minutes while joking and doing nothing to service the bar area. I watched people leave cash because they got tired of waiting for their bill. I got tired of waiting for service. There are some good businesses in Ogunquit - look elsewhere! read more

Great service, great food, great ambiance! Niko was our server- polite, friendly and happy we took his recommendations! Thank you!

The food wasnt bad i guess but absolutely overpriced and was unimpressed with the service. Went there labor day weekend and forgot to submit my review. The servers seem bothered and the owner is condescending and rude. Maybe dont work in or own a restaurant if working with the public and being busy around holiday weekends is too stressful for you. read more

What a lovely, refreshing spot in the heart of Ogunquit! We went to Nikanos for dinner on a Thursday night. The food, drinks and service were top notch. I had the spicy lamb flatbread -- which everyone said smelled AMAZING when it arrived at the table. It tasted amazing, too! I know the rest of our table really enjoyed their meals as well. We also got a few apps - calamari, watermelon salad, and dolmades. All sooooo good. Owners were on site and friendly as ever. Love that it's a family-owned and operated spot. Will definitely be coming again!! read more

Elegant interior, attentive service, lovely Greek wine, delicious food. We had an incredible meal here tonight and we were asked if we were pleased with our meal by three separate people. They were very friendly with our young children so I'd say it was very child friendly without taking away from the atmosphere. Loved the indoor/outdoor dining. read more

This is DELICIOUS Mediterranean food! The dolmades were VERY good - the best I've had since my trip to Greece, and still, as good as that! The tzatziki was also exceptional. I am a bit of a critic of this sort of food and I was so good - I am so glad we went! Don't skip this one! read more

You all need to get your ass her and try the Sunday dinner special, really, really good

Stopped in on a whim and so glad we did. The food was excellent, and the service was excellent as well. Our waitress (Allie) was attentive and personable. Very nice Sunday afternoon lunch. Absolutely recommend Nikanos .. we will be back for sure. read more

I believe this was the best chicken souvlaki I have ever had...anywhere. The skewered vegetables were also tasty and perfectly done. Top that off with a bottle of retsina and a shared order of spanakopita and you have a great meal. Not all that expensive, either. I wish we didn't live 3,000 miles away, but I can't recall a Greek meal in the L.A. area as good as this one. Oh, fine service, as well. read more

Nikanos has quickly become an absolute favorite in Ogunquit. We appreciate the new open air concept, the clear safety precautions underway, and their attention to detail. We always love the signature drinks, service, food, and atmosphere. I have sincerely loved everything on the menu thus far. The grilled octopus and baked fish stand out, as does their grilled caesar salad and fried calamari. The owners are warm and attentive and it feels like fun, casual dining with a bit of formality and a European flair. We highly recommend! read more

We have been to Nikanos a few times this summer. Everything has been absolutely fantastic. Starting with Nick the bartender's signature cocktails (Divers Rock specifically) and his friendly disposition. Appetizers, fried calamari, mussels, shrimp saganaki, oysters Onassis, spanakopita all have been well presented and tasty. All of the mains we have tried are great but by far our favorite is the Yiayis's Chicken. A family recipe handed down to Mark from his Mom. The deserts are home made and fresh. A must if you have room. If you come to Ogunquit and want something other than typical fried New England fare come and see Mark and Jen at Nikanos! read more

Fantastic Greek and Mediterranean food ! Everything was delicious. Service was professional and excellent ( Mike is Amazing- a professional). Our first time eating here. Great covid precautions. The owners and staff are amazing, attentive, professional and friendly. The food was delicious. Shrimp souvlaki with red sauce was sublime and homemade baklava was a perfect dessert. Our server, Christian, was one of the best servers in Ogunquit. Great vibe! read more

We had abysmal service and the food was disappointing. The server and owner were condescending, rude, and disrespectful. They were accusing us of using fake IDs because the new state licenses say "not for real ID purposes" you know for the real ID for traveling (if you haven't updated your license yet) I get it we're only 25 but come on, please be a little more polite about it, no need to say "you look 15" or "bro" or laugh in our face assuming you know something we don't. On top of it the food was meh. The gyros had thick slices of chewy lamb-traditionally made with shaved lamb. The brunch French toast was served without the accompanying side and the server again denied it came with a side despite it being listed in the menu. read more

Possibly Ogunquit's best new restaurant--if you like fresh authentic Greek cuisine as I do! The ambience is airy, spacious, spotless, with a nice al fresco vibe. We ate dinner at the bar--a reasonably priced and interesting wine list with many Greek reds and whites. The food is authentic prepared with nice attention to detail. The bread and oil were delicious--even addictive; for appetizers a heaping bowl of warmed olives and a Greek country salad with delicious tomatoes and feta whetted our appetites. My partner had grape leaves and I had the lamb moussaka, which comes in a little crockpot. Very tasty; maybe a tad on the salty side for my liking; otherwise 5 stars. Service was considerate and attentive, and here's the proof. Another customer at the bar was enjoying a drink with a friend but interlacing his conversation with some crude language. Having heard enough, I asked the manager to speak to him. Situation quickly resolved, and when we were ready to leave after dinner, our bartender told us the entire meal was on the house. A nice gesture, and a sure way to win customer loyalty. We'll definitely be back--not just cause of this, but for the high quality of the food and pleasantness of the space--well-prepared, genuine ethnic cuisines are so difficult to find in this neck of the woods, other than Tulsi, the stand out Indian restaurant with locations in Kittery and Wells! read more

Fresh and delicious. Perfect food! Casual and friendly atmosphere. Great addition to Ogunquit.

The Food At Nikanos is fabulous! When u open a new restaurant, there can be a few bumps in the road. The owners take great pride in this restaurant! It's so nice to have something different in town. The spanakopita is so yummy! I love the chicken kabobs with the grilled vegetables! Oh and the salad with the feta & tomatoes, I could eat everyday! Jennifer and Marc the owners are great people! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed read more

Bad food and poor service - what's not to like? Server paid zero attention to my table. The most standard Greek food was poorly prepared and flavorless. A complete disappointment of a restaurant. read more

We both ordered Mousaka. Traditionally Mousaka is layers of eggplant with a lamb Ragu and Bechamel. We were told by the waitress it was Zuchinni and eggplant layers. What we received was more like a lamb bolognese. There were no layers of vegetables. there were a few dice size cubes of veges. No more than six in total. It was extremely disappointing. They also do not honor seating request that we're approved at time of the reservation. the worst part was they had an empty table inside. I had asked for inside when I was told outside was a tent in the parking lot. The hostess cared about power and the ability to say no than to be helpful. the only upside was the waitress was very polite. Do not waste your money. read more
