I took my family out to dinner last night to celebrate my aunt's birthday. We were all very excited to grab dinner together. Our waitress took a bit to greet herself but we were patient. As she took our order, I specifically said risotto on the side please, cheese on the side please. She confirmed and we waited for our entrees. Thirty mins after passed and when food came out, everything was on there. We had to send back three plates because my family does not eat cheese and do not know how to eat risotto. Yes, our plates were fixed and everything came out but food quality tasted bland. I've had the Chilean sea bass before and it was delicious and I'm sure it would have been delicious the moment these sea basses came out but having to redo them, the chef was not happy to remake. It was such an unpleasant experience. And on top of that, there was an additional $4 open charge. seriously, I don't know if it was her first day on the job or what? The waitress couldn't juggle her tables. We won't return. My husband and I did frequent the restaurant and love the bar service but not the dining side. Check your bill guys. Was looking on yelp for early dinner spots while waiting for my husband looking at a car at Long Beach BMW. Nicos popped up with great reviews and seemed close enough. What's great find...just lovely. The staff welcomed us in...quick service...friendly people...quaint neighborhood spot. The food was delicious! Everything we had, we loved! From the chicken lemon soup to the flourless chocolate cake and branzino, citrus salad and the roasted garlic platter...yummy. Definitely a crave-able place!!! read more

I appreciated how the design scale was kept consistent throughout the table setting for continuity. As odd as this may sound, when I go to certain restaurants I pay attention to napkin texture and it's compatibility with that of the other linens at the table. This place had that down. ********I will add; Do not let my appreciation for table décor discourage you. I will eat just about anywhere, so please continue to invite me to hole in the wall restaurants and/or taco stands.******* The establishment is small, but placement of décor was tastefully done to give it a spacious feel. Tables are quite close to others, but it was not overwhelming. I also liked the restroom layout. The vanity mirrors, faucets.. very pretty. I requested in my reservation that we be given a corner table for more privacy. Against the wall they have a long booth style seating. Nice set up. You can make reservations online, or via phone. Very easy and convenient. They have a back room, and a second level as well. I could here laughter from those areas, so I am assuming that is for private parties. Nico's seems to be a place that some call home. You can tell those sitting in the bar area were locals. Colleagues ..Friends... dates.. there was a little bit of everything. Love really filled that room. There was a couple that helped set the tone. I watched like a creep as they enjoyed one another.. It's as if no one else was there. Pretty wonderful place. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. Fresh bread basket with 3 oils to dip as you please. Lemon chicken: very moist and perfectly cooked, the garlic spinach that partnered it was great and the Lemon caper sauce was very good. It was a very generous portion. Drinks were delicious. They were not shy with their alcohol pouring. From presentation to the taste. It was all there. I believe the name of the mule I had was Melon Mule? I think... very very good, nonetheless. My dad, sister, and I had an enjoyable experience here on the anniversary of my mother's death. We were visiting LA for the first time and a Lyft driver recommended we check out Naples. Looking to find a higher-end place, a stumbled upon Nico's and was overall pretty satisfied with my experience. We called ahead (around noon) to see if the restaurant was open. Their day-after-Christmas hours were not posted anywhere and their website is undergoing renovations. When we confirmed Nico's was open, we made a reservation and arrived about 10 minutes ahead of time. We were seated immediately in a corner booth by a kind hostess but despite the restaurant being fairly empty, it took a long time for us to be greeted by a server. Drinks were great. I had the winter sangria. Entrees were lovely. My dad and I both had the salmon and my sister had the lobster pasta. We didn't order an appetizer because we wanted to save room for dessert--of which we got two. They were out of the one we wanted (can't recall which) but we did get a dense chocolate and berry dessert and a creme brulee. I serve tables at a white tablecloth restaurant in Chicago, so I was not surprised by the cost of our meal (over $250 including tip). I do wish for the high level of ambiance and the food the service could have been better. It wasn't awful but I love the experience of a server acting as a guide, sharing the story of the restaurant and its history, plus the inner workings of how at least some featured dishes are made. I also wish the brightness on the TVs could've been turned down just a bit. Overall, would definitely recommend to a friend heading to Naples. Birthday Dinner for the wives. First, I will say that the service was very good (hence the 2 starts). Food was mediocre at the very best. Seated promptly. Great table. Ordered cocktails - were just ok. We brought our own bottles - both were decanted. Ordered 2 appetizers: Seared Ahi and Calamari (not sure why we ever order that). Neither were particularly remarkable. just meh! Entrees: two Seafood Risotos, Cioppino and Rigatoni bolognese. The Risotis were correctly prepared, but lacked flavor. The Cioppino was a poor man's version of the real deal. The Rigatoni was ok. Deserts: I can't remember - as they too were unremarkable. $450 with tip...and we brought our own wine - so this was like a $900 dinner. This place takes the crown for value. The food was not something I'd ever waste my time with. I was not expecting a michelin star experience. But the little place down the street runs circles around Nicos. I guess that Covid has made it ok to serve crap and charge you handsomely for the privilege. I am not going to plug other restaurants, but you could pick others at random and have a better experience This deserved one star. But our server did her very best and it's not her fault that her management serves tired, disengaged fare that has more in common with a Macaroni Grill than a higher-end restaurant. The roasted garlic was perfection, their beet salad is the best I've had, and the thought of their filet still makes my mouth water (Pavlov would be proud). Highly recommend Nico's. Came here for a special occasion dinner. We were seated upstairs in a small side room that contained three booths. While the food was really good, service was definitely lacking. Once we were seated, no one came to take our order for at least 20 minutes. The other two tables in our room were attended to by their servers, however, they did not even make eye contact with us before leaving the room, so we couldn't even wave someone down. After our server finally came to take our order, she told us that she would be back with bread. This also did not come for some time. We felt ignored throughout the meal, as no one checked on us after our entrees had arrived except for the busboy who asked if we wanted more bread and took away our plates once we were finished. We were disappointed with the service, but the food was good. We liked the three dipping sauces that came with the complimentary bread: habanero balsamic (not really spicy), sundried tomato olive oil, and garlic olive oil. For an appetizer, we ordered the Crab Cake (jumbo lump blue crab with avocado cream and a side of arugula). The crab cake was large with lots of crabmeat. It was nice to have the accompaniment of the salad with this dish. For my entrée, I ordered the Seafood Risotto. This included jumbo tiger shrimp, seared sea scallops, lemon beurre blanc, tomatoes, and capers over a saffron risotto. Jumbo shrimp were served tail-on, and the scallops were buttery with a nice crust. The lemon beurre blanc balanced out the saltiness from the capers and richness of the risotto perfectly. I also tried some of the New Zealand Sea Bass - oven roasted with lemon, fennel, and olives over saffron risotto with caper beurre blanc. I actually liked this dish a little more than mine! The sea bass could have been a little more moist, but other than that, it was delicious! I would come back for the risotto, but I hope that next time the service will be a little more attentive. Service we wonderful the minute we walked in the door. Literally, the host opened the door for us to enter. Very kind of him. We had a reservation for 630 but we arrived at 6 and he was kind enough to seat us immediately. Our waiter Octavio was so kind and attentive. He knew we were celebrating my daughter's 24th birthday and brought us a dessert (without me having to ask) with a candle so we can sing to her. Our food was brought out right away and the fish and steak was cooked to perfection. Service , food and atmosphere is totally worth the cost. We are definitely going there again . read more

This was our first time here! And I must say the food was spot on! The rosemary chicken was amazing, the drinks were yummy, and the calamari appetizer was delish! The restaurant is small literally one bathroom(Lol) which could have been a lil cleaner and a small line of men and women waiting. So, opted out. However, overall the ambiance was nice and a good thing we made reservations prior. Not sure if we did a walk in of four if there would have been a table available. On my last visit here, I just had a couple (okay, three) glasses of wine, but she steered me in an excellent tasting direction with her vast knowledge of wine. In the past I've had their gnocchi and some other really beautifully done pasta dishes, but this time I was really craving a burger and the Kobe beef sliders really brought it home. So here's the deal...I'm always looking for places, and by places, I don't mean fast food, burger joints. I mean proper restaurants. Restaurants that have a decent wine list and more to offer than a chicken sandwich and fries. Places that offer said proper lunch after 2:00 accompanied by said wine list. They also need to offer a decent selection of lunch items, that you actually want to eat, at 2:00 in the afternoon. Come here if you share in my plight! I have a gorgeous, perfectly grilled Sea Bass drizzled with a caper buerre blanc and further accompanied by seasonal vegetables and a smattering of roasted potatoes. I began my afternoon with an appetizer of poke and Wakame seaweed salad. If it's on the menu, order it! Trust me!! They serve lunch until 3:00, which even for me, is plenty of time. Their wine list is adequately represented by various regions. It's a tad high in it's price point but delicious nonetheless; the reasonably priced lunch items make up for the disparity. The facade comes off a teeny bit pretentious but inside, the clientele is down to earth and very welcoming...down to the guy at the bar wearing a tank-top and shorts...it is summer after all. But I digress.... Overall, a truly FAB restaurant in an era that many restaurants come and go, seemingly overnight. Eh I'm not so sure I'm a fan. My dad took my family here for my bday dinner and I thought it was awkward at best. The restaurant is tiny. It's definitely no bigger than my apartment. The menu seemed small, devoid of many healthy options. But honestly, as I recall ordering, I can't remember thinking anything was good. I know I had a salad and fish but nothing was memorable days later. And most restaurants bring something cute for a bday to sing to a person. They shoved a candle in someone else's dessert to do so. My dashing dining companion and I decided to check out Nico's on a weekday night. The atmosphere is definitely romantic with dimly lit candles and wide U-shaped booths. We were seated in one of these booths. It probably could hold a family of five so there was ample elbow room and plenty of space if you decide that your dining companion is misbehaving. ;) We ordered a bottle of some type of Meritage wine which was pretty good and we were able to polish the entire bottle. I had one glass and my dining companion finished the rest...guess his liver is just that strong. :) We decided to forgo the appetizers and focus on the main entrees. I ordered Nico's Risotto which was spinach pesto risotto and placed on top was seared salmon with feta cheese and olive caper relish. It was delicious with the right blend of ingredients and the risotto was cooked just right...not too al dente. My dining companion ordered the New Zealand Rack of Lamb which had an elegant presentation with an equally elegant taste enhanced by a rosemary scented balsamic-cabernet reduction. The service was great with the right amount of attention. Overall a fantastic place for a date with excellent food and wines. Was really not thrilled with our last visit here a couple of days ago for a few reasons: We were seated right by the door on an icy cold night and the restaurant was already uncomfortably cold due to the A/C. We asked to move away from the door, which shouldn't have been a problem because the place was empty. We were told we couldn't move... alright, but why? Your restaurant is empty... anyway, no problem, I just reseated us. I'm not going to sit and freeze through my meal. The waitress was irritated. So cool, now the woman dealing with our food has an attitude problem. Always such a great way to start a meal. I ordered a burrata salad and added golden beats. They're in season and there's nothing like that earthy flavor to go in a simple salad of burrata, arugula, and light oil and balsamic. The salad, sadly, was drenched in Italian dressing, had tomatoes, sweet croutons, and for no apparent reason was topped with prosciutto, which was unnecessarily complicated, felt inorganic and was in my opinion a gastronomic nonsequitur. We also ordered the Rigatoni with a short rib tomato sauce which was palatable, but also under seasoned and bland. In addition, I tried the roasted chicken which I expected to have been crusted in a pan and finished in the oven. No. The chicken, while flavorful was soggy and improperly butchered. Mouthfuls of gristle interrupted my meal, bite after bite. Our waitress did not check on us, or make sure we were enjoying our entrees, which maybe was smart on her part, because we weren't and I'm not the bashful type when I'm not pleased. The bartender randomly stopped by the table which was odd, but I was thankful as we were both able to get more drinks. The bartender was delightful. Our waitress was spending most of her time with a larger table ensuring she had her hook in the larger tip, so we know about that. The only time she asked about our meal was when I asked for the check. The table was never crumbed and dishes took forever to be cleared which is a pet peeve. Nothing is more unpleasant than trying to eat surrounded by dirty dishes. Meal came to $120.00 or around there, so moderately priced dinner for two. We tipped 10% which I felt was overly generous despite the atrocious service. Will we be back? No, most likely not. Thank you. read more

Nico's is finally open for lunch! Talk about being spoiled with their great food during the day and everything on the menu is under $10 !!! Our party just had the Short Rib sandwich ($10) Bolognese with Angel Hair ($10) and the Bistro Burger ($9). I had the Bolognese and added some chili flakes to make it spicy and it was delicious. The Bistro Burger I stole a bite of because it looked too good to miss out on. Definitely tasty and probably going to be my next lunch plate. I was told that the short rib sandwich was "Awesome & I loved it". I am so happy that Nico's is now open for lunch because with free wi-fi it is a perfect place to invite my clients and have a delicious and economical lunch in Long Beach with an upscale atmosphere. We're from the area and always wondered about this place. If you want to try and impress someone, it can be that kind of place. This is the kind of place we feared it to be. A place with a regular clientele who don't necessarily come here for a unique and exploratory dining experience. We ordered the Rigatoni Pasta, house salad and the Pork Chile Verde soup on special. We were mistaken, as most likely are, and thought this was an Italian restaurant. It's actually "New American". The soup seemed appetizing as we were sitting outside on a chilly night. It was surprisingly tasty but unfortunately barely warm. The house salad looked nice but the dressing was on the sweet side. Sadly, the Rigatoni was under seasoned and lukewarm as well. But even more disappointing was that we agreed to pay the 800% mark up ($36.00 for those who like math). The best part of the meal was the homemade chocolate cake. I normally don't care for sweets and was pleasantly surprised this wasn't so sweet. We really liked the texture of the sponge cake pairing with the strawberries. It was a treat. Ironically, with no offense to the great "Jonathan Gold", this restaurant IS NOT a sad victim of the "foodie" movement which has tarnished the restaurant industry these last 20 years. The familiar menu is pretty straight-forward: Fried Calamari with sweet seafood sauce, Chilean Seabass and the ever popular Tomahawk Ribeye. I even hear they serve the best meatloaf in the OC! The case is that this restaurant simply provides a familiar menu for those who are not comfortable wandering. Think high end "Cheese Cake Factory" with chic décor and "Thievery Corporation" blaring in the background. As the saying goes, never judge a book by it's cover. We expected more from this place, for some reason. With the variety of eating establishments in the area who are equally struggling to stay in business, the competition is fierce. I recently came here to celebrate my one year anniversary with my boyfriend. When we arrived valet took our car which was $6. There really isn't much parking in the area so valet is your best bet. When we got inside the restaurant was nice and cozy. A bit noisy because I believe happy hour was going on at the bar. When I made my reservation I asked to be seated on the second floor. The waiter told us a big party would be coming so we had to stay down stairs. I was a bit bummed out because the atmosphere wasn't quite romantic down stairs. Thankfully the hostess came over congratulated us on our anniversary and offered to have us sit upstairs but, warned us that the party will arrive around 8:30. Since it was 6:30 we figured we'd be wrapping up well before then. I'm glad they sat upstairs, the vibe was much different and it was very romantic. We loved it. The drinks were good and the calamari was delicious. We bother ordered the salmon and wished we could have more. The dish was well seasoned and tasty. I had crème brulee and boy did it hit the spot. Nice decor, warm ambience and we had a great room in the back for our group of about 13 persons. Attentative service. I had the bison short ribs which was amazing. Tender and not gamy at all. With potatoes and asparagus cooked perfectly. Couple that with a Chianti and we're set! Date had the sea bass which also amazingly good. Fresh and perfectly cooked. The Caesar salad actually had an anchovie on top. That is always a good sign whether you are a big fan of anchovies. For a restaurant that is on the high end they really need to update their decor. It's the holidays and they have ornaments taped and hanging off of broken lights at the bar. Took my girlfriend here for our first year anniversary. It was definitely a surprise for here, and I'm really glad both her and I liked the food and environment here. However, I did make a reservation to sit on the second floor of the establishment, as the bar floor tends to be very loud. I went here for a work lunch. It has an upscale vibe. I got the sea bass, it was good. Nothing to write home about though. But the best dish by far is the mac and cheese. It is likely the best mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. You must get it if you go here. They also have a cool (small - single party) lounge type room in the back. One decent sized table, four couches, and dim lighting. Kinda cool. However, this is not a place for having fun, being loud, heavy drinking, or anything of the sort. The bar tender does not pour drinks fast, and has a snotty privileged attitude. Older clientelle that will look down on younger customers. All in all, I would not come back here. Nico's is a neighbourhood trattoria that likes to think it is a Michelin starred restaurant. $43 for overcooked shrimp risotto is unacceptable. The food was unimaginative and the portions were obscene. The gnocchi appetizer is a full meal and more than enough for two. The Risotto came with about 12 ounces of protein and a huge portion of pasta. Definitely big enough for two. We left half our food. The service was amateurish. We had to remind out waiter twice about our drink order and received them half way through our appetizers. When the appetizers were cleared, the mains were delivered but without cutlery. We had to ask three times and then we only got forks!! There seemed to be no maitre'd and no one in charge. The experience was a waste of time, money, and food. read more

Great Naples location, away from the touristy stretch of 2nd. Beautiful, delicious, yummy dishes. Lovely cocktails (Gimlet is TDF!!!). Very private atmosphere downstairs, dark and romantic in the evening; upstairs a bit less so. Pricey, so keep that in mind -but definitely worth it. read more
