As much as I like this place I don't love it... I like the service and the location... this time I wasn't impressed with our main dish... wasn't worth the money we spent.appetizer was interesting... calamari with the melt in your mouth crisp spinach was good. Came on a chilly night, outdoor seating of course. My husband wanted to be seated at the furthest table out in the cold... anyway his seafood risotto was watery, and my filet mignon wasn't med rare as ordered, it was not exactly well done either but was relatively still good not as the tomahawk steak we got last visit. Normally I don't send food back especially meat as I can't bare being wasteful. The drinks were ok as well as the dessert... I was impressed with the coffee... yes, the coffee was a highlight... they use Lilly and with a splash of heavy cream was good on a chilly night. Won't write them off yet. read more

My wife and I have walked by saying "we really need to try this place" for years. Well, we finally did. Why did we wait so long?! Ambiance is wonderful and private. The food was epic and the service was fantastic. Possibly the best seafood risotto I've ever had. My wife's steak was cooked perfectly. You can tell a lot about a place from the calamari. This was breaded lightly, not oily and super fresh. Served with some baked spinach which was an interesting twist and a few delicious aioli options. We have a new favorite date night place. read more

The food was good, however, I felt like my guest and I got ripped off. The Seared Tuna appetizer was very small thin pieces of tuna, and it didn't look like the pictures displayed on Yelp. Our server was friendly and attentive, but my experience was ruined when I noticed my food was served on a visibly dirty/beat up plate that should be tossed and never used to serve a guest again. The Sea Bass was good although the mashed potatoes were old and looked like they had been sitting for awhile and were ice cold. My guest and I loved the Steamed Mussels and Clams though, and the Cioppino was pretty good! Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience but for the price we paid I expected alittle bit more and wish the plate my food was served on was clean. read more

We went with a group of 5 for a nice graduation dinner and each dish was phenomenal. Filet was perfectly cooked, salmon, sea bass, and the lobster pasta was all really really good and flavorful. Crab cakes are also Great cocktails, nice selection of whiskey. Really friendly waiter, everything was just really wonderful. Can't wait to come back. read more

We made reservations for our company Holiday Party 3 Weeks ago. The person that made our reservation told us our group will have the upstairs area so we can be more private. When we arrived they told us they gave our area to a different group. We were placed downstairs next to the kItchen / bathroom. The music was extremely loud, I felt like I was at a rave club. The server didn't offer us regular water, and brought us bottled distilled water and sparkling water. I didnt ask how much but they kept pouring and pouring, $7/bottle x 6. The vibe is nice and cozy. I like it a lot. I didn't like that my server reached over my plate and glass the whole time (that irks me) but the seabass and the mushroom gnocchi were ok but the crab cake and the lobster linguine was soooo delicious!!!!!!! I would definitely go again if only for the pasta and it's a nice 1st date spot. read more

Looks can be deceiving. Went here for date night and did some investigating on google. The pictures did not do this place justice. The ambience was very mood setting. The charcuterie board was absolutely amazing . The service was impeccable and the food was perfectly prepared. read more

1st time. Would have given 5 stars as service was great, food was great, outside patio was great. But the maskless owner/manager/whatever who visited 3 tables around us, with close, lengthy chats with each, and had several maskless friends who came by and were standing around visiting the table he finally sat at left me and my friend very uncomfortable. If he doesn't care to take COVID precautions onsite, does it get enforced in the kitchen? I mean, we tried to move our table 3 inches from the door and the masked shielded server quickly told us not to as tables were set apart as required, then this dude is all over the place? Won't be back until after vaccinations. Such a shame. read more

Service was attentive and friendly for the most part, however for the price, the food was poor. Ordered the King Salmon dish and the salmon looked undercooked. The fish was mushy and slimy looking like sushi. When we asked to have it re-done our server told us...it looked cooked and that's how it's supposed to be. So, we decided to switch to the Sea Bass. Sea bass came out.....same thing. Slimy and mushy fish with very little taste and horrible consistency. The fish should be flaky, not soupy. Gross. Not worth the price at all. This place seems like a pub masquerading as a fine dining restaurant. Just because you throw a few flowers on the plate and have a few fancy sounding dishes, doesn't make you a fine dining establishment. read more

My dining experiences at Nico's have always been truly exceptional. For several years I have frequented this amazing restaurant but have failed to write a much due praiseworthy review. Last night I returned to enjoy another great meal at Nico's and from the moment I entered, the hostess, atmosphere and attentive staff as well as the owner made me feel incredibly welcomed. Nico's combines the perfect balance between chic and cozy. The ambiance is lively yet comfortable, making it ideal for intimate dinners or lively gatherings. Upon being seated next to the bar area, (Makenzie) the consummate bartender as always exemplifies exceptional service (she makes great drinks) with professionalism, attentiveness and friendly service. The menu at Nico's offers a delightful array of dishes, each expertly crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients. On this evening to start I selected the Pineapple Medley Salad to start which exceeded my expectations with a unique blend of mixed greens, red bell peppers, strawberries, red onions, candied pecans, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and a honey white vinaigrette dressing! For my main dish I selected the beef bolognese with sliced toasted french bread which was absolutely divine. I could not believe in all of the times that I have come here that I had never selected this dish. Every bite was a culinary delight, and I can't wait to return to Nico's to explore more of their delicious creations that I have not yet tried. As always in one simple word, "Exceedingly"! "Nico's" is a restaurant experience with a definite 5 Star winning combination with a great atmosphere, exceptional food/drinks and service! Undoubtedly, Nico's is the best restaurant in Long Beach and I highly recommend! Unfortunately I did not take any photos but will make sure to do so when I return this coming week to enjoy another great meal here! read more

My parents were visiting from MI and I recommended they try Nico's. They were absolutely blown away by the amazing food, wonderful service, and the classy yet fun atmosphere! The owner even stopped by their table a few times to check on them, recommend a nice wine to pair with their meal, and personally thank them for their patronage. Both I and my parents could not be more impressed with the entire experience! Also, the bartenders did an incredible job making cocktails perfectly! I would 100% be proud to recommend this establishment to anyone whether it's for a business dinner, a date, or a fun night out with friends! EXCELLENT food, EXCELLENT service, and TONS of fun! FOOD: I had the Rigatoni Meat "Sauce" and it was bomb, with braised short ribs and sausage- so much it was more a stew than sauce. Waiter told me it takes the chef three days to make it (I wondered how he knew I was going to order it). Could have used another piece of sausage (I had one piece, maybe two: hard to tell when you're swallowing it whole). Speaking of swallowing sausage whole, I took my girlfriend and she liked her food too. She ordered the halibut, and instead of getting it proscuito-wrapped (as the menu dictates) she got it horseradish-encrusted, which was nom nom nom, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked spinach and garlic-soaked asparagus. Note: the best burger I've ever had ever was the 80/20 short rib burger, which was a NYE special menu item they should put on the permanent menu. We go late at night for apps, dessert, and drinks. The Creme Brulee is a small serving, but it is like the spit of angels (I meant that as a compliment). The Caramelized Banana Split is one of my favorite desserts in Long Beach, depending on the chef (it's rarely the same preparation). I highly recommend the roasted garlic app, which comes in two sizes. It is crazy good, with tomato, goat cheese, and grapes, and should come with a side of Orbit. WELL DRINKS: Stiff for strangers. Even stiffer if they know you. They might have Tracy's unique, fruit-infused vodka drink sitting on the bar you might want to try. It's a little pricey but it's one of a kind. PRICES: It's not cheap. Nobody gets their check and says "Is that ALL?" but our meal, drinks, service, and ambiance were all great, so nobody's complaining. We usually only eat here for birthdays, holidays, or bonuses, but we also come for drinks, desserts and apps. AMBIANCE/SERVICE: Top notch. Nice and dark, the back rooms cozy, classic, and private, the bar area modern but warm. All the servers are super cool and friendly, like Tracy, Amanda, Cory, Missy, etc. The front room, to me, is better suited for drinks, appetizers, and dessert, with hospitable owner George at the bar, who has graciously hooked me up with drinks (and an escargot sample) at least four times. The back rooms are a bit more mellow and romantic (but maybe lonely), and plus back there you don't see Jeffrey walk by, the dirty but nice Naples resident bum with Tourette's. (Update: Jeffrey is now cussing out angels in Heaven) read more

Mackenzie is in a league of her own as a bartender. Anyone complaining about the prices is apparently not from here or paying attention to California food prices at the moment? My husband brought me here for my birthday ( my birthday request ) we both have never been to this restaurant but I read the reviews and it seemed worth a try. As soon as I walked in I fell in love with the ambiance of this place. Dark and romantic. A little louder downstairs than upstairs due to the bar. Not a problem though. Mind you this establishment is really small but it's cozy and very nice. I ordered the lamb ( wasn't wonderful but was good ) my husband ordered filet mignon ( they have mastered this art. It was the best I've ever eaten and I'm a steak house fiend ) and my 5 year old daughter had spaghetti made for her ( though not on the menu, thank you! ) Service was great and food was delicious. I had walked by Nico's several times and never thought twice about it. And apparently they've been around since the 90's. I had recently heard that Nico's was pretty good, so we decided to try it out for our anniversary. We were not disappointed. I had made a reservation through their website and indicated that it was an anniversary dinner and reserved the booth by the window for us. They immediately brought out bread that came with three different dipping sauces, a garlic oil, a balsamic vinegar with a habanero kick, and a sun dried tomato. All three were very good and unique. We started off with a bottle of Malbec and the grilled artichoke appetizer. We were told that the artichoke was a bar appetizer, since it wasn't on the menu, but they had no problem accommodating us. We went with the New Zealand Seabass and the Ahi Tuna. Both were exceptional. The Ahi Tuna was cooked to perfection. If things couldn't get better, we ordered the chocolate martini for dessert and it was pretty damned good. It tasted like a milk shake with a kick. A nice way to end the evening. The service was also great, thanks to Amanda who took care of us. When you come to a place like this you want to enjoy the experience and not be rushed but at the same time not be neglected. They had a good balance. They even made sure that we had a taxi waiting for us when we were done. read more

Service was fantastic. Our waiter was very accommodating and highly aware of everyone's dietary restrictions. She was very knowledgeable about drinks and provided great recommendation. The meals were delicious and hearty. I had the salmon meal. It was perfectly pan seared will a del oo is lemon caper sauce. The Cioppino was by far my favorite. Next time I'll get that for sure. Not the best experience this time around. Not only were we not offered the bread and dipping sauces that other patrons were offered, the couple that sat next to us requested to split a meal, they were both provided with normal portions and charged for one meal. Good for them... but made us feel less than. It's really too bad since we've been coming to this place for decades. Going to think twice before returning any time soon. It's not what people say, but how they make you feel. Your staff failed us and you, George. Not happy. read more

It was a cute place. This was our first time here. It was more friendly for a date night. Dim lights. We were out for a girls night. The appetizer tuna and the burrata salad were delicious. I am afraid we were too full by the time the food arrived. I would order the sea bass again but not the ratatouille. It takes a lot of have a perfect ratatouille. Overall it was a nice experience. Had a wonderful dinner tonight. Great atmosphere and tasteful menu. Staff are terrific and Sarah B. is the bomb! While my palette didn't completely agree with the Seafood Risotto, the shrimp and scallops were tasty. My husband's Surf n Turf was superb. Do try the crab cake appetizer. Enough for two and quite delicious. read more

I was really let down by Nico's. I would like to come back again and request to be seated upstairs away from the bar so I could truly enjoy the fine dining experience Nico's claims to offer, but my first impression was a pretty terrible one. I came with my fiancé for a date night and it was nearly impossible to enjoy ourselves amongst the seemingly out of place riffraff at the bar. If I were with the group of people who look like they just came from the river in their tired baseball caps, board shorts, flip flops and sunburns, I would be mortified. I've never seen a group of middle aged people behave that way in an upscale, white table cloth restaurant. They should truly be embarrassed. My fiancé and I could hardly hear each other amongst the trashy rager happening at the bar. The restaurant management should have asked the group to lower their voices or asked them to leave. It was absolutely distracting having them there. That aside, the food and drinks were fine. I tried to order a cocktail from the menu we were given and was told after my order was taken that they couldn't make it because they no longer carried an ingredient. It was a rough start to dinner- the menu should have been changed to reflect their true offerings. I ordered a glass of wine instead. The bread they brought to the table was really great an they had flavored olive oil, which was really a nice touch- garlic, sun dried tomato, and habanero. We ordered the ahi tuna starter and it was just ok. We didn't finish is because it wasn't great. I ordered the meat rigatoni and didn't think it was much to write home about. I don't care for meat sauces that have big chunks of meat in it to where I need to cut it with a knife and fork before eating it. My fiancé ordered the seafood risotto and he thought it was just ok. We did order the cinnamon roll bread pudding for dessert, which was fantastic! The service was annoyingly slow and our server didn't seem to pay much attention to us at all. I had to ask about the specials and he didn't mention the ones I had seen listed on Facebook that very day (which we were excited about). He was completely unapologetic about how terrible the ambience was and only seemed to care once I asked if it was normal for it to be so loud in there. He could tell I was unhappy so he did give me a generous pour on my second glass of wine. I think this place can normally get away with mediocre food at a premium price because the place is beautiful and is seemingly upscale most of the time. With the trashy, older Panama Joe's crowd that was in there that night, there was no saving grace for this place. read more

Came here for date night, I called and reserved a table upstairs, so glad I did as the 1st floor was packed! The upstairs was beautiful and very intimate, I love the decor and lighting, perfect ambiance for date night ;) Our server was great, I can't remember her name. Bread and sauce for dipping the bread was delicious. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, asparagus salad, and we split the surf and turf. The food is the reason why I'm knocking off one star, the asparagus salad was to expensive and lacked flavor, the steak and mashed potatoes also lacked flavor. Probably would come back for drinks and appetizers but not dinner. Maybe it was just an off night? Ambiance: Romantic Food: steak and mashed potatoes can use more salt and pepper, the asparagus salad was okay, it could have been better for that price (I think it was $17) Pot de Creme and their dinner bread are both yummy! Parking: They have valet parking but we found street parking up front :) read more

Fairly new to the neighborhood, we've only been to Nico's during the "COVID situation" and were very impressed overall. Excellent happy hour! Amazing food, ambiance and service! We are looking forward to the day when we can actually dine inside but the outdoor space still has an intimate and sexy vibe. We have made this our new go to spot and can't believe we hadn't starting coming here sooner! Definitely follow their social media for the daily specials menu! read more

My go-to order is always the chicken pesto pasta. It's creamy, flavorful, and honestly one of the main reasons I keep coming back. I haven't found another place near me that makes a pesto pasta quite like theirs, so I always make sure to order it whenever we're here. Their burger and tacos are equally delicious, too! This location is almost always busy, which says a lot, but the service has consistently been friendly and efficient. Even with the crowd, the staff does a great job keeping things moving. Great food, great service, and an unbeatable location. Looking forward to many more visits.

And let me tell you, that everything was so good. The Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop came with a whole show, where staff would bring out the dish in a smoke-infused glass dome and open the dome when presented on the table so we can smell and see all the smoke. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it tasted just as beautifully. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the rainbow swiss chard, cheddar grits, candied pecans, and avocado honey helped balance out all the juiciness from the meat. They use haddock fillet for the Fish & Chips, which was fried to perfection. The Wedge Salad is what actually knocked my socks off! This was one of the best wedge salads that I've ever had. It had your key ingredients: iceberg, buttermilk dressing, red onion, crumbled egg, tomato, bacon gastrique, blue cheese, dill, chives - but something about this salad was different! It was so refreshing, flavorful--just everything you want in a dish. When I asked the clear manager in his outfit, requesting who the fake GM was, he along with the Bartender on shift played stupid as to supply her name. Margarita clearly was not a GM but felt that she needed to keep creating an unnecessary situation. The situation was already de escalated when he complied with what she asked. Do better with your staffing saint and second.

A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. We showed up around 5:00 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes, but I could see larger parties having a much longer wait. My go-to dish is the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant with chicken. It's a Thai basil stir-fry with eggplant, onion, and Thai chilis, and I absolutely love it. We also ordered the mussel curry, which my friend picked, and it completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was excellent. The standout, though, was the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with sliced rib-eye beef. Somehow I'd never ordered the dish they're most famous for, and now I understand why. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The broth with the rib-eye was incredible and is something I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. My biggest criticism is that the rice portions feel smaller than they used to. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.

This dish was a ricotta gnocchi. For nearly $30, this was the smallest plate of pasta I have ever gotten. I continued to look around and everyone got extremely small portions of pasta. That aside.. this gnocchi was not good and too undercooked. The sauce tasted honestly like a chef boyardee sauce, with a little bit of a fish after taste, and no ricotta. It did taste like slight parm, which, even if a little bit more Parmesan was added, maybe this would've tasted a bit better. But apparently all the Parmesan was reserved only for the salads. (This dish was supposed to have a duck base, but this was not cooked properly) not only was I simply turned off by this dish, there was nobody by to help or even get it to go box. But quite honestly, I just left the food which is so sad. Left over pasta is always so good but I really could not continue eating this as I truly did not enjoy the taste. I left hungry and sadly disappointed.

To you it off we all tried the Pistachio Custard that was a nice end to the meal. The place does get busy so you may want to make a reservation. They do have a big parking lot but parking can still get tight. As for the staff they are all very friendly and welcoming. They also do a really good job of keeping the place neat and clean.

Nico's was one of the few places open, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the chicken and found it to be mediocre, especially considering the high price. The mussels were also just average. However, the bread pudding for dessert was truly incredible. The establishment has an above casual ambiance, and the service provided was impeccable. Despite that, considering the the food and its pricing, I don't think I would return. I've had much better food for a lower price elsewhere. I arrived on a Friday night with my cousin for a special occasion dinner the place was very welcoming great staff We got sat upstairs very cozy booth we started with one of the best calamari's I haven't had then we ordered some of their special Kumamoto oysters that were to die for. My cousin had the pork chop and it was cooked perfectly I had the fillet mignon and it was amazing. To finish your evening we had crème brûlée and dolce late harvest wine. This place is 1st class! Excellent food, amazing wine list, superb hand crafted cocktails, and incredible ambience! I had the meatloaf off the bar menu and it was to die for. I finished my dining experience with the "gluten free" brownie (also incredible). The bartenders literally made me feel like I'm at home on Naples Island. I went here for a special occassion. The ambiance was amazing. We sat it the wine room....only one table....it was like a private dining experience with fabulous food and wine!!! I ordered the lobster stuffed Filet Mignion.....out of this world!!! The meat sauce on the pasta dish is to die for!!!! I had my first visit to Nico's and it was fantastic, largely thanks to Alissa, the bartender! From the moment I walked in, she made me feel welcomed and took the time to recommend some of their signature cocktails. Every dish was beautifully executed. The octopus was perfectly tender, the rissoto tasted like it belonged in Italy, and each plate reflected confidence and restraint rather than trying too hard. The wine recommendations were spot on, and you can tell every detail has been thoughtfully considered. The photos don't do the food justice. As an Italian-American (roots from Ischia), meals like this feel like coming home. We lingered over dinner, laughed, remembered my dad, and left with full hearts. They have about 7 tables that can be moved around on the sand and patio area. A big jungle gym is right next to it as well as restrooms with soap and toilet paper fully stocked! Order at the window and they'll call your order when it's ready in minutes.
