We stumbled upon Nico's because we were looking for something open past 10pm and boy were we happy! Nico's has such a a comforting vibe and reminded us of Christmas in Boston or somewhere cozy on the east coast. The service was excellent and the restaurant was decorated perfectly for the holidays. The prices on the menu are definitely on the higher side but the portions were quite generous so we'll need to remember to share next time. We started with a bottle of the Nero D'Avolo which we really enjoyed. Then the waitress brought out fresh, warm bread with a variety of different olive oils which were fantastic. My girlfriends ordered the pasta special and a bowl of their daily soup and I ordered the King Salmon. The salmon was a generous portion and cooked perfectly on top of a bed of crispy potatoes and a honey mustard glaze. I didn't love the sweetness of the glaze but the salmon and potatoes were perfectly cooked. I also loved the veggies that were served with the dish (asparagus, green beans, brussel sprouts)... so yummy! I'll be back and can't wait to try more! The waitress said the gnocchi was one of her favorite dishes so that's definitely on my list for my next visit :) read more

Bartender was nice, she made a great drink for my girlfriend and I, I know this wasn't her call but she reluctantly asked if I would turn my backwards hat forward because it's a requirement sitting at the bar. I love this place. The decor is dim, classy and romantic. The service is fast and friendly. We had the steam clams, burrata and beat salad, and all of it was finger licking good! We have been coming here every once a while for years. Unfortunately they dramatically increased the prices and the food got worse. They're charging for random stuff like water (8 dollars), 3 dollars to split a salad which was offered to us to do, we did not request it. Sea bass was over cooked. It is sad because the food used to be so good before and the price was appropriate. Unfortunately this is probably our last time here. She is a psycho who sat next to my family last night at dinner, screamed in the face of the whole staff after they told her 15 times they were fixing her bill and apologizing for the mistake. She threw water in the face of one of my family members and the owner, broke a glass from slamming so hard on the table, and screamed at all the bystanders trying to tell her to chill out. Her and her equally crazy husband only left because we threatened to call the police. Best part, she didn't have to pay her bill!!! Someone wanted a free dinner!! Nico's...dark, slightly slinky, early 1960's cool vibe with a full service bar that can sling out gin martinis, manhattans, rye whiskeys, single malts as well as blended scotches to go with their steak house provisions. White table cloths, pleated 'pleather' banquettes, overhead drum chandeliers, stem wine glasses gleaming, sharply folded white napery, walk in chilled wine closet w/ racks of wines resting horizontally, backroom den w/ flat screen tv for casual viewing w/ cocktail in hand....Nico's is a casually fancy joint. There is an upstairs, but it was closed when we visited. 0) Baguette Campagne: Leathery thin, chewy crust & soft dense, sweet yeasty bread. Choice of three flavoured olIve oils: a) Mostly non superaged Aceto Balsamico, young, acidic, fruity. b) Touched w/ a light puré of sun dried tomato, rather bland. c) Bit of jalapeno & herbs 1) Steamed Mussels & Manila Clams, porky, mildy spiced Bilbao Chorizo/sausage, fresh tomato, garlic, shellfish sea scented, white wine, light saffron broth. Toasted, faintly sour dough french bread provided a sponge to soak up the broth. 2) Calamari Fritti: dusting of flour, then flash fried in high heat to mildly crisp the dusted coating. Taken out quickly to not overcook the squid so it dries out and loses the subtle taste. Meat still retained sweetness & moist softness. Two sauces: pickled caper, creamy Aïoli (ah ee oh lee), and sweet, refreshingly acidic Salsa Marinara (mah ree nah rah). 3) Tomahawk Ribeye 16oz: Seemed aged since the spots of fat infused with the pleasantly chewy, meaty beef flavour of the steak melted in your mouth. Nice searing on the grill for a bit of a char as well as subtle coffee coating for more smokiness. Sides: Lightly battered, thin crispy onion rings. Smidgen of veal jus, bit over whipped potatoes which made it heavy & starchy, al dente yellow wax string beans, green cauliflowerettes, green Rapini/broccoli rabe. 1-3a) Malbec, Mercer, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington State, 2014. Malbec is a wine varietal originally from Bordeaux. More famously grown in Argentina, but now in Columbia River AVA, S.E. Washington. "Light aromas of herb, plum, vanilla, cocoa and dark fruit lead to a palate that is simultaneously sweet and tart, with a plush midpalate." Tannic graininess for a slightly rough finish which complemented the charred beef, but the agrodolce properties went well with the calamari and mussels & clams. 4) Chocolate Ganache Tarte: Ganache had vanilla but also a touch of cinnamon. The crust was ultra buttery, solid, firm short bread. The most unusual touch of molecular cuisine was the high quality heavy cream Crème Chantilly infused w/ a smokey aerosol that is reminiscent of the smoky flavour of lox. This triggered in me a vision of cream cheese and lox while simultaneously eating a sweet chocolatey dessert. The clever pâtissier who thought this dessert up seems to be into "mind fucking" palates in a good way. Our waiter was efficient & personable enough, but management should educate their waiters more about the food they serve so that they can better precisely & more confidently inform guests when they inquire about the ingredients, cooking methods, amount of aging, etc. Also, teach waiters to pack left overs with more finesse. My steak slices & veggies were placed on the bottom of the box, then the mashed potatoes were unceremoniously dumped on top. However, those were mere quibbles to the overall quality of the food and general atmosphere of this chic steakhouse. read more

I made a reservation for 7:30 pm on a Tuesday to meet my sister here for dinner at her recommendation. Parking here is valet so pull up in front and for a fee of $6, your vehicle will be parked. There is also residential parking across the street. I arrived a few minutes before my sister so I reviewed the menu in advance so that I would be prepared to order. The seating area downstairs was half full so I probably didn't need a reservation but wanted to be prepared since it was my first time here. The bartender took my drink order. There is a wine list but not a beer list but the bartender told me by memory. I started with a Chimay on tap. My sister arrived and then chat for a while before we placed our orders. Some bread was brought to the table with some olive oil and vinegar. I decided on the Filet Mignon with a lobster tail served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. She ordered the Burrata Salad which is arugula with balsamic vinaigrette and pine nuts. I ordered a Heineken on tap and then the food arrived. The filet was served with a cabernet demi-glace which gave some good flavor. Everything looked good and tasted good. The place looks nice, the service was good and the food was good. The acoustics in the restaurant carry sound so it does get loud in there but overall a good experience. Four stars! read more

Our friends invited us to join them for dinner at Nico's to catch up. With the COVID19 outdoor dining luxury, Nico's has been able to set up a cozy, attractive patio dining area. We kept driving past and wanted to have dinner, but the crowds deterred us. This invite was the perfect excuse to come for dinner. We arrived a little early to ensure seating for our party of 5. We were pleasantly surprised at the cocktail menu. Maria, our server and bartender gave us a quick run-down on the drinks. Here's what the table ordered: Smoky Cocoa - The drink is sweet but not smoky or spicy. Its base is mezcal, chocolate liqueur with a lovey garnish of serrano pepper. If you have a sweet tooth this is the drink for you. Just Peachy - Refreshing Vodka melon drink with cranberry juice and a champagne float. The garnish was a blood orange wheel and a flower, very lovely. Old Fashion - One of our favorite drinks, this one did not disappoint. We opted for Templeton Rye as they did not have Angel Envy's Rye. A very special drink - one on the secret drink menu - is Maria's 9th Wonder. You will not find it on the menu, but I encourage you to ask Maria to make this one for you. It's a refreshing blend of tequilla blanco, Ancho Reyes, crème de cacao and lime juice. Waiting for our friends we were enjoying the excellent service of Maria and Kristin, our amazing hostess. Gustavo our busser, made sure we had fresh water and a clean table. It's a great local spot with friendly folks and an ambiance that is hard to find these days. Our service was exceptional, and our evening just kept getting better. Our friends arrived with wine in hand. There is a $25 corkage fee which I do not feel is unreasonable. Nico's also has a great offering of wines that are kept under controlled temperatures. We started off with appetizers. Freshly made bread was served with three dipping sauces and butter while we awaited our appetizers. The menu has so many choices which is a rarity during our COVID19 times. It was difficult to decide so the table opted for several items to share. Here's what we ordered: Beet Salad - We all loved this one. It's a delicate balance of wild arugula, candied pecans, balsamic vinaigrette, basil herbed goat cheese. Steak Tartare - This is something I always order when on a menu. The delicate flavor of the beef tenderloin with a raw quail egg put this one over the top for me. On the side, the wild arugula was dressed lightly with a lemon truffle dressing and capers. The dish also featured an assortment of gherkins, pickled peppers, pickled onions and toast. Beautiful presentation and one dish I would recommend. Gnocchi - The gnocchi were perfectly cooked. We were all amazed by this dish. The mushroom sauce with truffle oil puts this dish over the tops as well. It's going to be hard to pass this one up on my next visit. Berry Burrata - If you love berries and a refreshing salad this one will please you. The berries, candied pecans, arugula, basil and balsamic dressing we in perfect balance. At this point we were all very full but did not want to pass up trying the main dishes. We figured we could have a few bites and take the rest home for decadent leftovers. Our chef for the evening, German, continued to carefully execute each dish with beautiful plating and perfect seasoning. I loved the orchids on each plate. Here's what the table ordered: Australian Lamb Chops - I always order my meat blue. The lamb chops were perfectly seared on the outside and blue in the middle. The best lamb chops I have had in a decade! I wish I could make them this awesome. They were served on a bed of vegetables that were also cooked to perfection. Lobster Linguine - Very pleased with the lobster chunks, flavor, and freshness. The garlic-parmesan cream sauce was incredible. The dish was topped with chucks of hickory smoked bacon. Roma tomatoes added a perfect balance. Seafood Risotto - The seared jumbo tiger shrimp and scallops on a lobster risottos and scampi sauce was excellent according to our friend. King Salmon - The salmon was fresh and perfectly cooked. The honey mustard glaze was lovely. For the grand finale, we had the pleasure of sampling cheesecake and cinnamon bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. Both desserts were incredible. Once again, the plating was exquisite. I am looking forward to my next dinner here. There are two unisex bathrooms. The servers practice social distancing and wore the proper PPE. Parking is by Valet/street, but I suggest a DD or Ride Share so you can thoroughly enjoy the cocktails/wine. I look forward to the day I can enjoy an evening in the wine cellar on the big couches. Spectacular dinner beginning with tasty and creative cocktails (Green Goddess with cucumber, basil, lime AND cracked pepper!), then fresh poke and a burrata arugula salad with absolutely delicious hot bread. For our mains I had salmon and my companion had a special (steak and shrimp) and both were served with well prepared vegetables and a starch. All in all it was a high quality "special occasion' meal that turned out to be about $100 per person (before tip). As it was a special occasion (anniversary) that was reasonable, and memorable so we were fine with it, but it might be pricey otherwise. One suggestion I'd make is to let people know the price of the cocktails ($13), and the special main ($56) We will return (for another special occasion). read more
