What a nice, cozy, romantic little joint in Long Beach. This enjoyable night was quite a serendipitous turn of events. A friend and her sister were gracious enough to include me in their events of the night. 1st restaurant we went to was having severe service problems so we left there before even being seated. Happened to call Nico's to ask if a table was available and hallelujah, I was told "YES!" We were promtply seated, I had a glass of Mac and the ladies ordered some wine. The appetizer of roasted garlic was a lot more extravagant than just roasted garlic. Perfectly roasted garlic with feta cheese and other goodies. It's pretty much a garlic head whole, which may seem like a lack of effort of Nico's part, but I'd have it no other way. I had the ossobuco. YES! The protein was perfect. So soft and delicious. The bone marrow you can see in my picture of the ossobuco was fatty and delicious. The risotto was a huge plus for me. It was perfectly al dente and smooth. I also tried some of the branzino and the pork chop. The branzino was perfectly cooked and flaky. The pork chop was, well, LARGE. Don't let the CAPs confuse you. I'm not complaining. It's to accentuate just how large the piece of meat was. The chop was well seasoned, cooked, and moist. Overall, the food, service, and ambiance really make this place pop. Came here for a late night dinner, I like that they close at 10, because it gave me a chance to enjoy Nico's! As other have mentioned, it is a romantic, pretty restaurant. They have a great environment with pretty centerpieces and a beautiful bar. Because it was pretty late, the restaurant was almost empty. We got the gnocchi, beet salad, filet mignon, and the creme brûlée for dessert. Everything was great, and I'd definitely be back. Our server's name was Taylor and she was wonderful. read more

I don't know why it took so long for me and my wife to go and try Nico's, but I only know it was a huge mistake that it took so long. We don't live in the area and two of our favorite restaurants are/were nearby so we always went to those places when we made the trek down there. That's my flimsy excuse (RIP Chianina). It was my first day of vacation and we were looking for something special or memorable to do. We pre gamed and checked out the menu the night before so we had some expectations going in. I have to say after eating here IMO this restaurant hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. This place is great. I've been to all the places in Long Beach with Michelin mentions and on the LAT best 101 restaurants and they may be sleeping on this place. It was lunch time and the bartender and waitress were slammed, 2 of them serving the entire place, but they did a great job. We went overboard, the two of us ordering the gnocchi starter, a beet salad, and two entrees. I got the king salmon and my wife got the scallop risotto. Everything was great. The quality and care taken by the kitchen staff was apparent. The drinks were on point too. I can't say enough to recommend this place, but maybe I shouldn't because I'd like to make sure I can get a seat here next time. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes! read more

Great Food! Came on a Saturday with wife and my father we started with the crab cakes & calamari season well and the taste didn't lie! I had the bolognese, my wife the seabass and my father had bone in ribeye special. All of it was excellent! Cocktails were on point. I had the New Old Fashion and my wife had the Blueberry Sage. It just didn't have a cozy feel and inside they have partitions set up making you feel like you're eating in a cubicle. I'm so conflicted about this review. The food and service here are really good (like 4 star). However, the bar crowd is a real turnoff. We were enjoying ourselves until the bar filled with super annoying drunk people in flip flops and shorts. I thought they were looking for Sharkeez but nope, I guess this is their spot. As soon as the drunkies settled in we asked for the check. I feel like this place needs to pick an identity - either you're a beach bar or a dinner restaurant. Nico's in Naples does a great dinner service not to be missed. The smaller dining room size and large bar makes for a very noisy and fun atmosphere. We enjoyed excellent service throughout dinner. Food quality is between good and excellent with some interesting offerings. Prices are definitely higher than average but worth it. She had lemon chicken and I had king salmon, the salmon was the better choice, the risotto with the chicken was not up to standards. We shared and enjoyed the baby gem salad. Do not miss the bourbon pecan pie! Parking at Nico's is non-existent and very challenging. read more

Decided to go to nicos for my anniversary last night and it was excellent. The service was great! And the food was so delicious and the portions were more than enough. We ordered the roasted garlic appetizer which was every garlic lovers dream. I had the beet salad and my hubs had the lobster bisque. The beet salad was excellent the flavor combination of the herbed goat cheese and arugula plus the crunch of the nuts made this salad a must. I had the filet mignon and he had the special which was lamb shank. The steak was cooked perfectly and packed full of flavor. The lamb came with a risotto that was also very tasty. Neither of us could finish our main course since the portions were more than we had imagined. The reviews here complaining about portions must be people that eat many plates at buffets because it was more than we could eat. read more

Then I ordered the Seafood risotto. Very good, I recommend it. The second time we sat at the bar. We started with a Bulleit Manhattan. Perfect, get one you won't be disappointed. Very nice spot to take a date. The atmosphere is quiet and semi formal. At the hostess counter we were greeted by a typical emotionless girl with more interest in her FB page but she sat us quickly. Our waiter again emotionless and a little too serious for my liking. We ordered the special salad, mussels and clams as appetizers ...both were excellent until I discovered the long red hair at the end of my salad. Normally I don't freak out or make an issue, I just figure we are humans and it happens. Here is where I have an issue. When the waiter finally returned to ck in, I pointed it out. He said" sorry about that", and started to collect my plate. If he would have expressed more interest in the issue I would not made an effort to correct the matter. So I mentioned, " you know I don't have red hair (I'm bald) and my wife has jet black hair so this must have been from the kitchen or the hostess that actually carried over to us and served it. He replied, "what would you like me to do? I can comp you a cup of soup." I said no, take care of the salad and we're good. He said" we don't do that here, I can give you a dessert". Long story short , he comped the salad. My issue is when it's obvious there's a problem, just handle it. It's better in the long run not to get into a debate with customers. Wife and friend enjoyed very fresh ingredients in a sort of "open face" omelet and I loved some of the best smoked salmon I've had in ages, served on French bread toast (No, NOT French Toast...) with a bit of Hollandaise on top -- so good! We came for a drink prior to our dinner reservations. We happened to be sitting next to the owner George and it was clear he takes great joy from owning it and the joy can be seen in the staff, the quality ingredients, and even the small things like the copper ice cube maker that makes very unique ice cubes for your scotch and bourbon drinks. There was a pear drink that was out of this world. Will certainly return to have that again. Amazing. read more

I was quite dissapointed in the service , the waiter was more attentive to the larger groups that was sitting near us, there were only four of us. The waiter was friendlier to those groups. We had to ask for bread and more water from another employee. Have been going to Nicos for years but since COVID changes and when only the outside dining only allowed (sept / oct 2020 )NICOS RAISED THEIR PRICES EXORBITANTLY!! We live in Carlsbad, CA and we were going to a concert nearby at The Gaslamp so we decided to go to dinner nearby. We used Yelp to find a place and decided on Nico's after seeing the reviews. Nico's is an expensive restaurant but my goodness the food and service were amazing. The 3 oils they serve with the bread are all great although my wife and I were partial to the garlic olive oil. My wife had the Seafood Risotto and I had the Braised Short Ribs but substituted the potatoes for Mushroom Risotto. Both were absolutely excellent. Amy our server was very good. Attentive and accomodating. Nico's is a small place but you could tell by looking at the bar it was a local favorite. On our way home toward San Diego from San Pedro I went on yelp looking for a good place to stop for lunch in Long Beach. Came here for date night with the husband and to celebrate his birthday (belated). I easily made reservations a couple days before that Friday night. We walked right in and were seated right away. We ordered the burrata salad (Wild arugula, baby heirloom tomato, fresh basil, white balsamic vinaigrette), which was pretty good. I've had better though. We also had the New Zealand Sea Bass (Oven roasted with lemon, fennel and olives over saffron risotto with caper beurre blanc), which was excellent! The fish was perfectly cooked. Everything was seasoned nicely. The risotto was perfect! We ended the meal with free cheesecake since we were there celebrating his birthday. Food was good enough but not outstanding. You're paying for the atmosphere which still is ok but not comparable to other cities. If you really wanna feel bad and boujee in long beach I guess you can spend your money here. Great Bar! The martini's are excellent. I give them a four. The salads were awesome. Just what I was craving. The Calamari and crab cakes were not worth the $$$. Where was the seasoning?
