We got delivery for Omelettes, hash browns and small tossed salads. The Omelettes & hash browns were delicious and hot! Not easy to accomplish for delivery. Portions were exceptional! The small tossed salads were okay - we wouldn't order again. They came with Feta cheese, which we don't prefer & didn't know. They were fresh but just iceberg lettuce with one or two very thin slices of green pepper, tomato & onion. The ranch dressing tastes more like creamy Parmesan. With this said, the Omelettes and hash browns were as good as homemade! We strongly recommend the veggie omelette with or without cheese... lovely! The hash browns were nicely browned and cooked perfectly (could use more onions or stronger flavored onions, in our humble opinion). The customer service is TOP NOTCH! They truly care about getting your order right, are very accommodating and nice! We will definitely order again and HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We are blessed to have access to this restaurant. This place is perfect. Does that mean every item is "perfect"? Not necessarily. Let me explain... We've been there for weekend breakfast several times. The food is delicious (traditional breakfast, pancakes, French toast). The atmosphere is great (diner). The waiter we've seen is fantastic. Is the coffee "diner coffee"? Maybe. Do the tables sometimes wobble a little? Sure. Is it crowded? Yes (popular!). Nick's is PRECISELY the kind of place I love to go. Distinctly local. Very good hole in the wall diner. If you want a no frills breakfast in a small cozy atmosphere with good food, check out nick's diner. We had the scrambled eggs and an omelette with home fries and a side of pancakes. The pancakes stole the show and that says a lot because the eggs and home fries were very good. The potatoes were done to perfection and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The pancakes were fluffy but not rubbery - they were more cake-like how pancakes should be. Server was friendly and refilled waters and coffee. Cash only pay at the counter when you leave. They have a small parking lot or you can park on street. Come early. Got here at 10am on Memorial Day and was seated right away but shortly after a long line started forming inside. read more

When I lived in Silver Spring, this was my go-to breakfast place for Saturday morning. Diner-fabulousness on point. You know it's a great quality spot when the servers and chefs have been there since before you started going there on a regular basis. The counter diner seating is my preferred option because you can watch the cooks work the flat top like pros - pancake-flipping, homefries-cooking, and eggs-baking/sunnied/scrambled/etc. My favorite is their eggs and corned beef hash. The hash is crunchy on the outside and very flavorful. I'm a sunny-side up egg girl and they do them perfectly here. The coffee is some of the best I've had at a dinner (not like it's gourmet quality, but for diner coffee, it's really quite good). The wait staff is awesome and very attentive to anything you may need. Two things: bring cash and get there early. Parking can be an issue and on the weekends, there is almost guaranteed a wait. One of the best hole-in-the-wall diners anywhere. George can cook, and everyone is in gear. Lotsa 20-year customers they treat like family, even an occasional customer like me. This diner is the real deal. Old school menu. Nothing fancy. Good food. Friendly service. My mom and I sat at the counter and had a perfectly satisfying corned beef hash and eggs (me) and a egg white gyro omelette (her). The potatoes that come with the breakfasts are on point - buttery and crisp. I would come back here often if I lived closer. I just had my first of what will be many breakfasts at Nick's. The place was really hopping, but all the employees were pleasant and welcoming. All employees wore masks. I sat at the counter and watched the hustle--waitresses were always in motion and the cooks never stopped! On top of that, the food was excellent. I had french toast and sausage links, which were both piping hot, and there are plenty more options for me to explore. Very tight quarters ... but we were seated quickly and were a table of 5; you are elbow to elbow with other diners... but it adds to the greasy spoon vide. Menu is traditional diner fare and well priced. Somewhat limited tho for a diner.. no half and half or cream only milk for coffee which was a bummer. I had the big breakfast which was pancake, eggs and bacon with home fries... home fires were great as were the pancakes. Eggs and bacon were nothing special. My daughter had the soup of the day which was a navy bean soup and was delicious!! My other daughters both had omelettes which were good and well sized. This place is super tiny in the inside. If you can deal with really tight places and people on top of each other than this is the place for you. I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. While IHOP is across the street, I would still prefer this spot (and I do love me some IHOP). The food is priced perfectly and it is soooo good. No matter what you order, get the BACON. Very quaint local "mom and pops" diner. Great service and equally great food. I wanted something quick and away from the typical chain restaurants and this definitely hit the spot. We had the reuben and the turkey hot sub and couldnt complain about a thing. Being we were in between breakfast and lunch they served it with potatoes w/ peppers and onions. I will always come to this place just to get an omelette. This place is a local dive that serves freshly prepared meals. A lot of locals come here and the staff are genuinely nice. I've been here several times and I decided to come thru on a weekday to grab some grub and eat inside rather than take it home. I had the veggie omelette add chicken, some pancakes, the OJ, and home fries with bacon. Now, based on the price it's about $10 more than going to IHOP. If you do come to this place, just be prepared to pay a little bit more money. This diner is small. It's an old spot and they can use some upgrades but they're probably not concerned about it. A patron has to walk through the kitchen to go to the bathroom. The parking lot has limited space and the inside can use more room in my opinion. Will I come again? Yes. Why have I never been here before when I live less than three miles away? Nick's is what a diner should be: Cheap food like Mom use to make and service with a smile. I had the two slices of French toast for just under $4.00. It wasn't anything fancy. No Challah. No brioche. Just plain old sandwich bread fried in an egg batter served with maple syrup and a shaker of powdered sugar. My friend had her eggs over medium (cooked perfectly) with a side of home fries and 4 slices of crispy bacon. Milk for your tea and/or coffee over the nondairy creamers is always a bonus for me. Everything was perfect. Unlike a certain diner (Osman and Joe's) we weren't rushed. However, there is a counter to dine at and ample tables. It wasn't packed on a Friday morning. This is a great place to eat if you want home cooking and friendly service. They have a decent sized parking lot with access off University Blvd, not Veirs Mill Rd. You may have to make a few turn arounds to get to it, but it is totally worth it. read more

I had never ordered from Nick's because they close early but I finally got a chance to and oh my gosh....SO GOOD. I am spoiled when it comes to Diners- Silver Diner is literally 150 feet from my apartment. While Nick's isn't as modern or trendy as Silver Diner (which honestly is not a bad thing, it's a diner) the food is SOLID. Everything came fresh, the eggs were somehow still hot and accurate. Perfect amount of salt and not much grease. Not a single bad thing to say. Keep it up guys! I'll be ordering again soon! read more

Weekday late breakfast with my wife, we stopped in at Nick's hoping to discover a gem, and I think we did. We squeezed past a crowded counter to a small table in the back, and our waitress greeted us and right away just asked if we wanted coffee. She knows why we're here! Top Dog - Ham - When I walked in, two things caught me eye 1) a sign that said they had the "Best Ham Sandwich in town" (making me instantly doubt it, cuz places that have the 'best' of something tend to have lines out the door) and 2) the huge skewer of ham calling my name from next to the griddle. You had me at HA, ham sandwich. I had a breakfast sandwich, and the star was the ham, perfectly crispy and juicy with a flavorful glaze. Honestly, the sandwich was $5, and they could have added another slice of ham or two to up the value and flavor a bit, but it was a great way to start the day. Contender - Home Fries - Remember that moment in My Big Fat Greek Wedding where they don't understand what spice they are tasting in the potatoes? BAM! Exactly! I don't know WHY these home fries were delicious, but the seasoning took it up a notch. Crispy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, with some onions in there... Mmmm! Disappointing - Sausage Gravy - OK. This is half my bad for overdoing the order and asking for the home fries with gravy on top. But it is on the menu, and it is NOT an upgrade in my opinion; I would have rather eaten them without the gravy and maybe a little ketchup, salt, and pepper instead. But the lake of blandly-seasoned gravy on my potatoes took away that possibility. Great diner coffee, blue and white checkered tablecloths, and the waitresses kept the refills coming. They are cash only, but there is a bank the next lot over with a drive-thru ATM. And you can really only get to Nick's by driving East on University Blvd., so come from that way, or you can try to get away with parking at the bank like we did. Pre-COVID lockdown visit. The diner is small but we managed to find a seat at the counter. The diner is cash only, so we were limited to order based on what he had on hand. I ordered an omelet and corned beef hash. My guest ordered the breakfast platter. The food was good. We were disappointed that we had to pay for tap water. Tap water should be free. If you charge for water, it should be filtered or bottled. The review is 3.5 stars but rounded up for exceptional customer service. read more

Best breakfast in the DC area. Their scrapple is always cooked to perfection. I don't know what the secret is to the potatoes, but they are far beyond anywhere else. They always nail an over easy egg. Everything else is great, but 98% of the time, im a two eggs over easy with scrapple and dry rye toast guy. And they have a counter so I can sneak in by myself before work and eat without having any weird eating-by-myself anxiety. This spot was clutch for being open early on Sunday. Hole in the wall, but would certainly come here before the IHOP around the corner. Very friendly and attentive staff. I enjoyed my experience here, but I can't give you too much input on my food. 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast is a fairly simple meal... The bacon was crispy but not too dry. The potatoes with hot sauce is delicious, but again, not very special.
